The moon light up the sky brightly during the late night of June 6th 1944. A waffen SS squad tasked with guarding a radar station close to the normandy coast sat quietly talking among themselves, their officer in charge Obersturmführer kurt Braun stood leaning on the concrete structure smoking a cigerette speaking with his Sergent Otto Schmidt,

"Ahh Otto, it's obserd they have us guarding such installations here in Normany when we should be in Calais helping prepare for the allied invasion.."

The older man grinned,

"aha i agree Lt, if my opinion counted i would say the same.."

Braun smirked,

"Rommel...slightly over rated yes"

All of a sudden the sound of plane engines started to drown out their conversation,

"What the hell is that?"

An SS private came running out of the station,

"Leiutennet! the allies are comming over the channel...hunderds of them.."

Braun took off inside the radar station, the rest of his squad chatted loudly outside,

"What the hell is going on?" he asked a Whermacht radio operator..

"Hundreds of aircraft have been reported comming this way...this is the eve of the invasion Leiutennet.."

"The invasion is bound for Calais!"

"It seems not sir! U-boats in the channel report them comming right for us!"

Braun rushed out of the comms room and addressed his men,

"Men, it seems as if we are on the eve of an invasion...allied planes approach normandy as we speak...it is nothing the SS can't handle though is it!"

"No Sir!" the men replyed..

"Very well, weapons cheak...i expect those planes will be dropping para.."

He was cut off by the sound of flack guns echoing through the air, search lights shone high in the sky cutting through the clouds..

"Paratroopers..i want everyone on high alert!" he continued..

The SS officer threw his ciggerette to the ground then picked up his MP 40 that was sitting on a concrete block.

Reports from the Whermacht were going out all over Normandy reporting planes flying over head and defencive measures were being taken. The Germans were prepared but many shook in their jackboots....

Oberfeldwebel Helmut Mölders was sitting on a chair in an abandoned french house, he had left Germany 3 years ago, and now fate had brought him here.
-"I'll tell you Otto"- he said to his second-in-command -"These British folks better hurry up or we'll be too old to fight"-
Otto looked up from the book he was reading (aproved by the NSDAP of course) -"Personally, I wouldnt mind waiting here all my life, I think that french chick in the bakery was flirting with me the other day..."-
Helmut laughed -"Yeah, sure, you know she was--"-

His joke was cut off by the sudden appeareance of Soldat Albert Riegel, who came in with a hurry and saluted.
-"Yes Private?"-
-"Sir, we just got word the allies have started a full scale night invasion, planes are being spotted everywhere as we speak, Sir!"-
-"You must be joking, everyone knows those Yanks dont have the guts!"- Said Otto, a little worried
Then Riegel opened the window and showed them a sky full of explosions and white dots descending into occupied France.
-"What?!"- Mölders got up and picked his gun from the table before turning back to Otto who was standing, geared up -"Go set the defenses while I come down, tell Seeliger to find a good position and set the MG's, then bring me Baier with some ammo!"-

Things were going to get... shaky to say at least.

Unterfeldwebel Johan Heinrich sat in a wooden chair, in a confiscated French homestead. The farm was located out in the countryside of Normandy, and the rest of his squad was standing guard, or asleep in one of the many rooms in the large building. Untiroffizer Hanz Hamilton had long since been asleep in a chair across from him, snoring loudly.

"Eh," Johan said, "He may sleep." The radio man had left the radio on his desk, which had been a dinning table. Johan had nothing to do, he realized. So he sat there, thinking. His thoughts were interupted as the anti-aircraft guns began firing, shaking Hamilton from his sleep.

"What in the bloody hell?" he said, jolting upright.

"I don't know. Get the squad together!" He shouted. Hamilton screamed out the window for the other ten men to move to the courtyard, where Heinrich was going.

Muttering to himself, Heinrich said, "I hope this is just an exercise."

Lt. Brendan Crowley was going over his objectives in his head.

Hit the ground.

Flank Right

Fall Back to the bunkers and blow them up.

All of a sudden the plane jolted. He flew out of his seat. "What the hell is happening?" He yelled to the pilot.

"Flak fire from below," Came the response from the cockpit.

Crowley turned to his left to look out the door as he sat down again. He could see the landing zone in the distance and then...

"Why the hell are we turning?!" He yelled at and to the pilot.

"Orders came to scatter to avoid casualties, sir!" The pilot replied.

"Stay on coarse!" Crowley ordered.

The pilot angrily said, "No can do sir!" With that the pilot flipped a switch in the cockpit. The jump light came on. Soldiers were alread set to jump. Out the door they went. Crowley realized that he had to jump as well and went last.

He knew what to do. His body practicly did it without him forcing it to. He had drilled jumping so many times in Britian that it was part of his instinct.

Staff Sergeant Richard Baker sat at the front of the bench, looking out of the open side of the C-47 transport plane. He looked down upon the cornrows of Normandy. Flooded field after flooded field near the beaches and then more fields. Anti-aircraft fire filled the sky and the ride was shaky. In the cockpit the pilot flipped the switch, and the red light turned on. Richard Baker stood up in the front of the plane.

"Get ready! Ok, everybody up!"

"The men got up in unision and clipped on.

"Equipment check!"

All the men checked the equipment of the man in front of him.

"Sound off!"

"12 Ok."

"11 ok."

"10 ok."

And so on down the line till it got to Richard Baker and he shouted,"One ok!"

He stood in the door way waiting for the green light. The pilot flipped the switch and the light went green.

"Good luck men! I'll see you on the ground." He paused for a second more then jumped out of the aircraft. One by one the rest of first squad jumped out of the aircraft.

Braun and his squad watched tracers fly through the sky, flak guns could be heard from all directions,

"Bahlow, Kade, Zwicker! bring them sandbags over to the doorway now!"

The three SS privates ran to carry out their orders,

"Von Staffel, Danke, Mann! get some grenades from the station and all the extra ammunition you can find.."

"Otto, come over here with me...there is a field about 100 meters from here, it could be a drop zone..get me two of those Whermacht boys in there with an MG-34"

"Yes sir"

Braun hopped in a kubel wagon and turned on the engine, it roared to life. When Otto returned with the two Whermacht sentrys they sped towards the field down the dirt road,

"You two get out! we will cheak on you if we hear shooting...shoot any of those yanks that dare to land in this field! UNDERSTOOD!"

"Jawhol Obersturmführer"

"Good"

The two men took the MG and layed in the brush near the road and prepared to fire, they were terrifyed at the many little white dots comming down to the earth. Braun sped back to the radar station and hopped out,

"Now...we wait, Bahlow, Kade...watch our rear..do not shoot untill they come really close..."

"Jawhol Obersturmführer"

The two soldiers jogged a short distance up the road then conceled themselves in the bushes,

"Otto, i fear this is just a gate way for the real invasion..i have never seen so many planes sence the Blitz..."

The sergent simply nodded not taking his eyes off the sky..

Baker hit the ground in the middle of a field. He could hear fire all around him. Was this his drop zone? He didn't recongnise anything. German machine guns and anti-aircraft guns were firing all around him. He was takening off his parachute and gathering his equipment when he heard "Flash" from behind a bush. Startled he pointed his M1 at the bush and said "Thunder". Out from behind the bush came Jefferson, a private in his squad.

"Oh man sir, am I glad to see you," Jefferson said.

"Me too Jefferson, me too. You have your weapon?"

"Yes sir, I got my Thompson."

"Good, good. Come on we don't have much time we have to get to our objective."

Baker started out across the field staying low and out of sight. They came up on a wall covered in ivy, on the other side of the wall they heard a stick break. They hurried up and hid underneath the wall. Baker pulled out his cricket clicker and pushed it twice.

"click, click."

On the other side of the wall they heard,"Thunder."

Baker and Jefferson stood up to see three more men from there same squad, Sullivan, the machine gunner, Nixon, Baker's Corporal, and Jenkins, a Private.

"Hello fellows," Baker said,"How was the jump?"

"Rough,"Nixon responded,"Anyways, it seems just on the other side of this field there is a German AA gun. I think we should move across and take it out."

"Ok,"Baker replied,"Let me thinkl for a bit."

As they were crounched around this wall, two more of there squad walked up on them.

"Hey guys!" the first said, seeming very excited to seem them. It was Kennedy, John Kennedy, a private.

All five men crouched down quickly turned and pointed their rifles at the pair.

"Hey, hey guys. Easy. It's Sandman and Clinton," the second one responded. It was Private First Class and Assistant Machine gunner private Clinton.

"Shh. Be quiet guys,"Baker snapped.

"Yes sir, sorry sir."

"Anyways, have you guys seen anyone else?"

"Nah, no one."

-"You called me sir?"- asked Hanns Baier, he was the squad support gunner, and had gotten the FG-42, sadly, he prefered the MG-34, but there were none as it had been requisited by an eager officer last tuesday.
-"Yes, grab all the ammo you can and pass it on to the other men, and hurry up!"-
-"Ja, Oberfeldwebel!"- Baier saluted and left to the basement, were ammo was kept.

Meanwhile, Gefreiter Bernhard Seeliger directed two soldiers to set up the Machine guns on critical points, for himself, he chose a nice tall building with lots of windows, a sniper's paradise.

-"Do you think they'll attack this patethic excuse for a town?"- Soldat Knüppel came from a farming background, he tended to talk rough, thats why his squad mates had nicknamed him "Schmutz-Mund" (Dirt Mouth).
-"I dont know, you know what our superiors told us..."- Ubben recited giving himself a low, deep, general-like voice -"Just give me some good days o' fighting and you'll be heros in no time!, Just hold this town against everything!"-
They both laughed heartily, though they didnt know laughter was about to end.

Sergeant Mike Scanlon looked back at his squad. They stood in a line in the middle of the transport waiting to jump. Scanlon was closest to the door.
"Alright, equipment check!"
The plane shuddered as a flak shell exploded too close. Some of the soldiers muttered curses or prayers. It was hard to tell which.
"Sound off!"
The squad got to "Nine OK" when a flak shell hammered the tail of the plane. The pilot hit the jump light and yelled "Jump now, we're going down!"
"Jesus! Alright, squad, go, go, go!" The Sergeant jumped into the night. Most of his squad followed him, but when there were four men left on the plane, a flak shell hammered into the body of the aircraft. Scanlon watched as the plane hurtled to the ground, flaming.

The two Whermacht sentrys Braun had posted near the field watched the americans hit the ground,

"American! fire! fire.." one said loudly to his commrade,

**Ratatatatatatatatat*** The MG-34 chattered loudly...

At the Radar Braun heard the shooting,

"Those Whermacht boys are shooting...Americans..they are comming, we hold our postions!"

Braun went in the radar station and said to the operators,

"Inform Rommels headquarters we have encountered allied soldiers, they are moving near our station at these co-ordinates.."

He showed the operator and he called them in, Braun went back outside..

Scanlon hit the ground and rolled. He realised he was in the middle of a forest clearing, near a French village. "Shit!" He ran towards the treeline, and crouched, looking up into the sky. He saw parachutes landing, and some landed in the clearing.
He shouted "Thunder!" at the men. They returned "flash," and ran over to him. At least ten soldiers had landed in the clearing. Among them were four members of his platoon: Corporal Duncan, and Privates Carson, Garbini, and Sullivan. The other men were privates from First Platoon, not Third.

"Alright, we've got a fortified village behind us. Get ready to move in," Scanlon whispered to the men. "Duncan, Garbini, base of fire. Carson, Sullivan, flank left with me. The rest of you, flank right. Move, move!"

The men deployed and moved towards the village, wary of enemy fire.

Feldwebel Pieter Weber groaned as someone pounded on his door. he sat up in bed, shaking the sleep from hsi eyes. "Come in..." whoever was waking him up was going to catch hell...

Oberschutze Ruprecht threw the door open, eyes wide. "Sir! There are lanes all over the sky! Can't you hear the flak?"

Weber took a moment to listen, realising that yes, the flak guns were firing. he scambled from his bed, hurriedly dressing. "Get the squad to gether, then head for that village down the road....whats-it-called. The one where Oberfeldwebel Molders said he'd meet us if something happened."

Ruprecht nodded and ran from the room as Weber hurriedly strapped hsi equipment on and headed into the courtyard of the small chateau he and his squad were billited in. The rest of his men, sleepy eyed and yawning were straightening straps, tightening belts and shifting weapons into more comfortable positions as they poured into the yard. he looked them over, then nodded.

"Let's get going. Adler, you're on point."

Adler groaned, heading for teh gate. "I'm always on point, Feld."

Weber nodded, chuckling. "That's because you're good at it. Get worse and maybe you won't be any more."

"Clinton, Sullivan establish a base of fire!"

Clinton quickly set down the tripod and Sullivan snapped on the machine gun. He clicked in the feed and signalled he was ready.

"Nixon, take Kennedy and Jenkins up the right, I'll take Jefferson up the left. Clinton, Sullivan base of fire from here. Go!"

He let his words sink in then continued,

"Sgt Schmidt and myself will be taking cover on the side of the Radar bunker out of sight...Danke and Staffel will be in a perfect firing postion at this time, they shoot first..Bahlow you will be taking cover behind the kubel wagon, make you move quickly so that you are not seen..MOVE OUT!"

"Shit, I'm hit!" yelled Carson.
Scanlon returned fire at the flankers before turning to Carson. "Is it bad?!"
"Nah, it's only my leg, let me at the fuckers!" Carson flipped into a prone position and started taking his revenge on the Germans, aiming and firing short busts at them.

Meanwhile, Duncan reloaded his BAR and continued to fire at all exposed Germans. Garbini supported him with his Garand.

The First Platoon soldiers got up as the fire concentrated more to the left. The rushed forward, and moved to the left flank of the enemy, jockeying for a good fire position.

Most of the Germans were injured or shocked by the explosion, the ones moving on the right flank suddenly changed their minds when they were met by more paratroopers,

"Supressing fire!!" a sergent yelled..

Germans tryed to move on the left flank but were cut down due to lack of cover. The right flank was slightly more sucessful but the left was falling apart allowing the americans to get behind them....

-"You know what I love about this!?"- Baier shouted over the gunfire.
-"No, what!?"- Riegel shouted back
-"Watching them cower! Cowards!"- Baier laughed as he replaced the FG-42's magazine.

Knüppel waited for the Yanks to be in his line of fire before pressing the MG-42's trigger, he smiled as he saw the men hit the dirt, not knowing if they were dead or alive, he turned to Ubben who was feeding the Machine Gun.

"I wonder if that will bring them out.."

Otto returned with the operator who had a helmet on and was given a rifle,

"Stay calm Jefferson, it's ok, I'm right here," Nixon said tring to comfort him, bullets still wizzing past their heads.

Sullivan on the machine gun, seeing the two men come out into the open by the radio station opened fire on them. They were sitting ducks. This caused them to quit firing on Thompson and Nixon.

Baker and the other three men made it to the bush but nobody was there. They were in a shell hole 15 feet behind.

Braun and Otto were forced to take cover when bullets hit the side of the radar bunker,

"Shit, they are getting to close we have to withdraw soon.."

In the meantime while the three Germans in the impact crater fired at the enemy one grenade fell short of landing in the crater while the other three landed at their feet,

"My god!" yelled Mann hopping out and rolling over the dirt rim around the crater..

He was followed by Kade but Zwicker was having a hard time getting out,

"Rottenführer!" he yelled then..

**BOOM!!** the first grenade exploded..

The two germans fell back under fire from Bahlow, Bahlow then threw a stick grenade back, all of a sudden Zwicker was about to get out of the crater and the two grenades exploded...

Otto had brought the three radar operators outside and they were armed to the teeth,

"The four of you including your commrade in the ditch cover us! we are all going to cram into that halftrack.."

Braun rushed over to the bushes and pulled a camoflage cover off an SS halftrack,

"we will give you the signal to follow, have the charges been set in the bunker?"

"Yes Obersturmführer!" replyed Otto..

The SS squad started to get in the halftrack,

"Where is Zwicker and Bahlow?" asked Braun..

Bahlow came running out of the bushes and climbed into the vehicle, Mann shook his head,

"Zwicker didn't make it sir..."

When the men were all in the vehicle Braun called to the German who was on the other side of the road in the ditch,

"Commrade! hold on!"

Otto started the halftrack and turned it around so it faced directly down the road, Kade was on the MG-42 surveying the area,

"Come!!" yelled Braun..

The operator started to run across the road and Kade opened fire with everything he had spraying the area the muzzle flashes came from in the beginning,

"Wait for that man to get on! we wait!!

13-07-2006, 07:08
A lone Waco Glider of the 101st Airborne Division sat in a bog, its contents almost destroyed after it landed in the flooded french soil, of the 20 men on board, 6 didn't make it out, another 6 of them managed to get out only to drown because they had their floatation belts around their waist, 8 men managed to crawl/swim out with their gear, and not flip over.

Sgt Henry Yoder (the highest ranking officer surviving) sent 4 men to the west, only to see them get gunned down by a german patrol, the other 4 took a more cautios route to a nearby village and wait until reinforcements from the rest of the 101st arrived.

After a few days they woke up to the sound of gunfire, and crawled into town with Yoder covering and Harold Henchman with his M-1918A4 BAR on point, to see the exposed rear of an SdKfz 251 halftrack, Abraham Richards, a combat engineer, was instructed to fire his M1A1 Bazooka at the halftrack, he took careful aim from behind a corner of a ruined house.

Then they saw a stream of Panzers coming from his right....

Oh crap

Richards aimed at the lead Panzer IV J and fired (aimed somewhat at the track/suspension unit on a quarterin towards shot), hopefully blocking the Panther behind it, but that still left two Panzer IVs to deal with, he then made a speedy retreat under the covering fire of Automatic Rifleman Harold Henchmann and Rifleman Stanley Furguson (acting Assistant Automatic Rifleman), Yoder picked at germans jumping out of the Panzer IV from a tree (along with any tankers with their heads sticking out).

Richards fearing he would be seen, kicked in a nearby door and jumped in, with his M3A1 "Grease gun" pointed in front, after clearing the room he set his attention to occurances outside again.

Brendan hit the ground hard. He somehow managed to get caught in the cords of his parachute and his left shoulder absorbed the crash. A light wind from the planes had managed to blow him far from his squad.

He heard footsteps near by. He knew it was an enemy, no one could have possibly landed so close to him. He went to stand up to turn and face him. Unfortunetly he tried to brace himself with his left arm as he reached for his pistol. Something ripped and he almost insantly knew that it was inside of him.

He kept silent, pain erupting through out his whole left arm. He pulled his pistol out and kept lying one the ground. He used his good side to roll over onto his back so that he could see the Nazi nearby him.

The enemy showed himself. Two shots were fired, one from each man's pistol. Brendans shot went right for it's target, the bastards brain. quickly more pain registered in Brendan's mind. The asshole had shot his left soulder!

Brendan lay on the ground in agony. Almost any attempt to move that he made resulted in anguish. Slowly he drifted into sleep.

He awoke to gun fire. He instantly reached for his Thompson. Bad choice. Pain once more seared throught his arm and shoulder. Once the pain had gone down enough for him to think he realized that the gun fire was coming from a distance.

Slowly he pulled himself up. Overcoming the excruiating pain that went along with what should have been a simple task. Slowly he truged, towards the gunfire, hoping that it would lead him to fellow Americans. He kept his equipment with him, the bags they were in slung over his right shoulder.

He was getting closer. Closer to friend or foe he wasn't sure, but it was closer to something at least. He stumbled, as he crashed to the ground he yelled in agony as his should once more gave way to pain.

A slight fog gracefully danced over the moist Normandy ground. The shimmering dew on the grass reflected the horrific picture that played out over the sky. The illumination of fire cast eerie shadows amongst the woods and houses of the French countryside as if things needed to be more frightening. For all it was worth, once on land everything seemed to quite down. The hell going on in the clouds seemed unimportant now, now that you touched the soft yet unforgiving Earth. All that matter was the small seemingly insignificant sounds being played out around you, your breathing, your boots against the gravel, the owl in the woods in front of you. Than someone from the sky falls into your peaceful creation and the realization of what is happening hits you with a force you’ve never felt. Sickness is quickly replaced by a sense of utter urgency, the ground around you starts to flick up as if hit by something yet you see nothing. A quick flash reveals something even more unwanted, the noise. Something in the air around you is slicing through unseen matter. You hear its sharp ghastly hiss and the small thud of impact, hopefully nowhere near you. Without even realizing it your hands are methodically unhooking the man who, just seconds ago, was falling from the sky into the unknown with all hell unleashing around him on a country he might not have even known existed that is some thousands of miles from this home a place he has never stepped foot out of. It’s just another day…another day in the 101st Airborne.

“The Lieutenant is dead, the Major is dead, hell I think even the Captain is dead! God knows where the god damn first and second squads are! We are knee deep in shit right now sir!” His voice was not at all frantic actually more comical than anything…trying to mask the fear most likely. The voice itself came from Corporal Derby Finnegan a strong Irish immigrant from New York. At age 20 and the only member of the squad with red hair he was easily one of the oldest and most distinguishable of the group. “Sergeant…what are your orders?”

Remarkably the entire squad of 8 had made the jump safely and intact, a lucky feet at that. Still they were without a clue of their location, not to mention surrounded by a local encampment of German troops. To say they had no idea is somewhat of a lie, in fact they did know that they weren’t anywhere near where they were supposed to be. The Sergeant being referred in the above would be Tyler Ern, an Eastern European immigrant who still bore a heavy accent. Tyler was 31, balding, and scared from his early childhood. He was tall, strong, and an intense leader. He was borne to a family of 7 and of 7 he was the oldest meaning that when his father passed away when he was only the ripe old age of 11 he instantly became the man of the house holding two jobs at age 12. He was single handily responsible for saving his entire family, save his mother from Nazi tyranny. With the money he somehow saved he moved everyone to the US only weeks before the Germans made for his home country. His mother, however, he could not afford and so it was her he had to leave behind which spelled almost certain doom for his family was Jewish ironically from his dead father. This sorrow has given way to a hatred few could want to match.

With the situation in mind it was clearly realized that his was not the time or place for this squad’s first fight. A hasty withdraw was commenced yet not without its difficulties. Small arms fire peppered the group until they were clear out of harms way, or as far as you could in enemy controlled land. Darkness had been their savior on this day and without a doubt, a little luck as well. That still didn’t mean, however, they were in the clear.

Around 4 in the morning just before the sun was set to rise they ran across a sign, a lovely little sign that they were able to get their bearings. They had missed the drop but, as they imagined, who didn’t? Checking with his compass and maps he quickly pinpointed their location thanks in part to pre invasion training. He looked up and gently made their whereabouts known to the squad, “We are few miles south of Ste. Marie du Mont. I hope you enjoy nature walks cause’ that’s where we’re headn’.”

The halftrack carrying the seven German troops left and headed for Ste. Marie du Mont in the early hours of the morning, the countryside looked erie as they passed through, vehicles destroyed and dead troops scattered everywhere. Braun looked at his watch, it said 4am..

"Where are we heading Obersturmführer?" Asked Otto

Braun looked at him,

"Change of plans, we are heading to Carentan then Vierville..from Vierville we go on to Ste Marie Du Mont..there is a radio station there and a command villia on the map"

He told Otto while he drove the halftrack. The resistance was minimal during the night, alot of two and three man groups roaming about, Braun knew the heavy flak must have caused them to panic therefore take more fire, the paratrooper invasion had failed..soon the Nazi's would have them all killed or captured. A light rain started to fall as the vehicle raced down the dirt roads towards their objective.

Reallydrunk']Once the bunker was out of sight the halftrack turned around and raced up the road towards town, other German squads were seen heading that way aswell. On the way three Panzers and a tiger tank were seen heading in differernt directions at the crossroads, all hell broke loose,

"Obersturmführer where are we going?"

Braun turned to Danke,

"We are going to town to re-arm and drop these radio men off, then we head towards the beach..if my hunch is right they will be sending men, lots..of men.."

The Halftrack continued to speed towards the town...

"There was no hope in hell we were holding that station..the enemy were on our flank, Zwicker was a good man.."

Shortly after the Americans left the Radar bunker exploded in flames..

OOC: I'll post tomorrow afternoon, g2g later ppl..it's been a pleasure..

Near Ste. Marie Du Mont

The march there was silent, at least amongst the men. Their nerves had already been shot and they hadn’t actually encountered any real combat. Their faces were covered in black, green, and brown paint, smeared across their skin to break up their outline against the backdrop. Yet in their minds one question was screaming at them, tearing away at their insides and nobody felt it more than Sgt. Ern. Airborne squads consisted of 12 men give or take depending on the situation; right now he could only count 8 meaning 4 men were missing, at least for the time being. Knowing how poorly the drops had been he just assumed the best and that they were heading for Du Mont just as they were and with luck on their side they just might meet on this side of the damned.

The fog had lifted only to be replaced by a light rain that was sure to pick up in its intensity in the coming hours. The column was moving at a steady pace leading more from adrenaline than actual endurance. Quintin was on point his Garand resting comfortably in his arms. The land around them began to get marshy and soon the only sound came from the pattering of rain and the squish of the mud underfoot of the heavy airborne boots. So far they had run into nobody they knew and nobody they didn’t want to meet allowing for a quick breather for the men. As they sat quietly during a small lull in the marching the ground beneath them began to lurch and rumble. A sound much like that of a train whistled overhead on numerous occasions which quickly got the line back to marching. So far it had been dark to boot, no fires, no lightning, not even moonlight, but now the sun began to rise and with that came the scenes of complete devastation. The rotting burnt corpse of men and material littered the roads and forests. Men hanging from failed canopies of their parachutes with the twisted, distorted faces of death stared from out of the abyss. The eyes seemed to pierce the very souls of the column as they ha never seen such death before, after all they were still green regardless of their training.

After checking again and again the map, compass, and clock they finally arrived within view of Ste. Marie du Mont just before 0600. The town itself was relatively small consisting of one major throughway; being an angled fork in the road. Still this town, as many like it, contained a prime strategic importance; Cause-way Number 2. Part of Operation: Eagle, this town was linked to one of the many causeways that would allow troops and more importantly armor into the mainland of Normandy and France. Garrisoned by a small German force it was hoped that the town would be relatively easy to take. Although little had changed in its defense the miss-drops had allowed for only a much smaller force to be used in its capture and as of now they had yet to secure it. Now with the sun just rising and the church steeple in clear view they were about to get their first taste of combat and by all means would it not be pretty.

There was a Panther group comming up the main road that heard the shot, while German infantry rushed out of the halftrack the tanks also advanced towards the town cutting across a field..

"The house, fire on that house!!"

It was clear from the start that they were not the first to make an assault on the town, dozens of dead and dying lay strewn about giving the fields a singular crawling effect to them not to mention a orchestra of appalling moans and pleas for help. As they took up positions along the southern tree line just yards from the actual town they stumbled upon a soldier, obviously in pain with at least two bullet wounds to his upper torso. For now he was unconscious so they simply did all they could, removed his parachute gear and bandaged him up. After applying some sulfa powered and a shot of morphine it was time to get down to business, with all hopes this man would come to and be able to provide some information because, at this point, any was helpful. Meanwhile, Ern sent Quintin and Grady to see if they could link up with any friendly units, being able to get this close to the city was a frightening idea and he had no intentions of assaulting unless there was some idea of the situation. So, until they got back, all they could do was sit and wait; something they would have to get used to be the end of this war.

………………………..Bang! Mortars began raining down just feet away from Grady and Quintin meaning somebody, somewhere, had caught on to them. They ran threw the woods jumping and dodging various obstacles that litter a forest floor, their eyes squinting after the constant change from light and dark due to the foliage above them. Tree burst after burst sent molten lead and bark in every direction, peppering both insignificantly as they dashed to and fro. They ran parallel to the southern portion of the town, through a small line of trees hoping to find someone wearing the same get up as them. There was no whistle or whine just the sudden crash and dirt spilt upward from the ground revealing that, however deadly mortars are, they fall to earth to slow to be heard. Than came the worst part of the trip, seeing friendly troops in front of them, they also noticed that in order to reach their neck of the woods they would have to cross a clear section of road, in plain sight of buildings, before entering the other half of the woods.

Taking a breath from running and dodging, which by now the mortar fire had dwindled, they made their dash across open ground. As this happened their heard a sound them sent not only chills up their spine but almost, just almost, made them freeze up; MG-42 fire. A lone gunner had opened up tagging the ground around them, sending tracer rounds around them as if to tease them moments before they died. They ran, full speed, pumping their arms with all their might until finally they slid into the trees and thus cover. Breathing for air they were pulled in by two friendly faces: Ollie Zacharias and Deacon Weston. Ollie and Deacon were both members of 2nd Squad thus brining their force number to 10 men. Along with them where other elements of the 101st and some 82nd boys as well. They were preparing to assault the town again and this time 2nd Squad was going to take part.

Ste Mere Du Mont

Machine gun fire echoed through the town, German troops scurried about preparing to meet their enemy at postions that were well prepared. Mortors exploded all over the town, the spotters had obviously noticed some enemy sneaking in.

A lone MG gunner in a window cursed as he missed the Americans taking a gamble with their lives by crossing his path,

"Americans! inform HQ we are under attack.."

Somewhere in the town a German Colonel who was forced to remain in the town over night due to all the small unit action stood in the mayors office, over a loud speaker he shouted words to boost the morale out the window....

A 20mm gun was brought out from around a corner to the southern end of the town and afew American troops were seen ducking into the trees,

"Fire!" said one of the crew..

*Powpowpowpowpowpow* the gun put supressing fire in the direction of the men.....

“No time to talk, get down! Incoming fire, 20mm!” Deacon screamed. Everyone hit the deck as the rather large projectiles flew into their position sending huge splinters down on the men. The rapid rate of fire hardly allowed for any movement, the gun had been trained right on them; they had an observer somewhere in the town. Ollie peered up, just barely seeing out of this helmet. Deacon met his gaze as they both looked skyward to the large belfry in the center of town; the perfect spot for…well a spotter. They looked back at each other and nodded in agreement. Suddenly a thud stopped everyone in their tracks. A small coughing sound was coming from a Corporal off to the side of the 2nd Squad members. A 20mm round had caught him squarely in the chest, the result of foolishly standing up prematurely. He stood there, shells exploding around him, shock glazed over in his eyes. He kept grasping for breath as if he still had a chance until finally another round clipped his neck finally putting him down. It was the first actual casualty that Grady and Quintin had ever seen. Deacon and Ollie however had been involved in the first of many unsuccessful attempts to clear the town.

They finally managed to crawl into a different position leaving the 20mm firing at nothing which was quickly observed by the forward observer in the church tower. It wouldn’t be long before they would reposition themselves for yet another angle on the Americans. Grady finally spoke up, “I’ve never been more glad to see you fellas’. We’ve been marching all night just got here no more than 15 minutes ago. Rest of the squad is over in that direction waiting for some orders. What’s going on?” His breathing was calming down now and he began to feel whatever ease he could.

“This town is proving to be a real bitch, got some Kraut Paratroopers hovering in the area. We just got reinforced by a new company plus your squad, should be able to take it now but damn its been a long day already! Hey, by the way, who all is with you?” questioned Deacon.

Quintin replied, “Uh, jeez, Derby, Jaxon, Brodie, Hartmen, Emrey, and Sgt. Ern. That’s all we know plus us and you guys. See anyone still missing two more?”

“No kidding’! Kris and Wil (Short for Kristopher and Wilfred) are just around the corner, how about that the whole squad made it! Alright than we best be on our way, you guys stay here, I’ll send Ollie here to fetch Kris and Wil. Than you shall lead the way back to our squad and we’ll tell Tyler of the situation.” With that Ollie made his way over to the next outpost where Kris and Wil were stationed with the intentions of bringing them back to Deacon and thus reuniting the squad. By some twist of fate the entire 12 man squad had made it to the ground alive and now, somehow, found themselves all concentrating on the town of Ste. Marie du Mont. After some 10 more minutes the squad found themselves together and extending handshakes and hugs to their formally missing comrades. Nevertheless the assault was soon to being and they knew deep down that they might not be reunited so pleasantly.

The 20mm ceased firing and a small detacment of Whermacht troops moved slowly ahead keeping low, two German grenades were thrown where the 20mm had been firing then a base of fire followed. The Whermacht squad advanced into the trees to see one American dead, the others had moved on..when they came out of the trees they shouted to the 20mm crew,

"They are gone but you got one!"

The crew moved back pushing their gun along, the squad covered their asses during the withdrawl. In the bell tower two observers scanned the country side and the near by roads, once and awhile they would see a group of men moving and call to the 88's to open fire. Brauns men had left Virville about an hour ago and were headed for Ste Marie Du Mont where they would cheak in with HQ then continue on to the radio station down the road from the villa, it was of the outmost importance that communications stayed operational. The town was comming into veiw, on the way they passed lines upon lines of reinforcements with no real objective, confusion was the main factor during the early hours of June 6th 1944.

The SS halftrack pulled into the town of Ste Marie Du Mont at 0530 and stopped in front of the town hall where some one who they assumed was a morale officer shouted over a loud speaker telling the troops to never surrender, stop the american swine where they stood and push them out of fortress europe. Braun got out of the halftrack and allowed his men to stretch their legs, Kade, Bahlow, Von Staffel,Danke and Rottenführer Mann hopped out while Braun and Schmidt went into the building. Inside they were lead to a room where a Whermacht Colonel stood by a microphone,

"Heil Hitler!" Exclaimed Braun clicking his heels..

The Officers attention shifted to him, he returned the salute..

"Yes Obersturmführer, what can i do for you..." He asked in a cool tone..

"My orders sir! you are the highest ranking officer in the countryside, the others are located on the beaches.."

It wasn't hard to tell the officer did not like the SS very much but replyed to Braun,

"There is a Villa not far from here and a radio station further down the road..that is your posting untill you can recieve orders from a member of the SS...i want you to look in on the men holding the Villa, then continue to your objective..UNDERSTOOD?"

Braun threw up the Nazi salute clicking his heels once more,

"Yes Sir!"

Otto clicked his heels and saluted aswell, the two then left the room heading for the halftrack..

"Everybody in! we have a new objective..."

Once everyone had piled in the Halftrack Braun told them what the Colonel had told him, they all nodded,

"And thats it boys..we don't have much to worry about, you know how many tanks we seen on the way here...this area is crawling with FJR6 members too..the allies will waste their time trying to accomlish anything here.."

Otto turned the vehicle on....

Baker was crouched next to Billings, a Private. He looked to his left, and as he turned back to his right a shot rang out. blood and gore flew from Billings head, as he fell forward.

"Oh jesus..."

He was gone, insantly killed. The Germans had a sniper in that villa.

The storm was picking up in ferocity, light rains and thunder gave way to a downpour and lightning not to mention high winds. The Germans guarding the city were, for the most part, under roofs or adequate protection unlike their US counterparts surrounding the city. The men of 2nd Squad waited for the go. As they waited and planned Sgt. Ern got a call over the newly acquired radio (given by fellow GI’s taking part in the assault) by the commanding officer a Lt. Colonel Burton Kassidy. Kassidy started, “We just got word an armored halftrack just rolled into town carrying a detachment of SS troops. Seems they are leaving just as quickly as they got here so no need to keep em’. Once they leave Fox Company will attack from the east hopefully catching them off guard as we just got them, seems Brass really wants this town. After about ten minutes you guys and the rest of us will hit from the South, which hopefully, will be weakened. We called in for air support but headquarters is under the impression that it would be delayed to long.”

Ern really had nothing much to add but he felt the need to reply somehow, “Weather should help though sir. It’ll cover our attack and prevent them, or at least, delay them form bringing in reinforcements. Will take this town sir!”

“Yea you’d better be right. Aerial recon says there is a shit load of armor heading this way…if we don’t take this town now it’s going to be a while before we do. Hopefully the weather keeps up like you said anything to slow that armor up!”

“The rain will be here just as long as us sir.” That’s where the conversation ended. The rain was even more intense, almost blinding at times. The rain dripped off of the brim of the soldiers’ helmets as they waited. The rain cooled down the harsh Norman summer and soon one was able to see breath coming from their respiration. It was still early nearing around 0630 just about the time the SS group left. As they were leaving navy the troops could now easily hear the naval bombardment that was taking place. Such a show of power and strength…how could they lose?

2nd Squad’s mission was simple in essence, but than again no plan ever works against the enemy. They would be hitting the town from the south eastern corner and thus hitting the town from the least defensible position. Two houses stood in their path each with a number of windows number from 1 to 3 stories high that would lay down an intense fire. Still the limited number of windows would also work against the enemy as it would limit the number of locations and angles to fire from. Upon clearing out the first few houses it was on to the church in the center of town and to clear it, especially the belfry, of all enemy personal. With Fox Company now in line it easily gave the numbers to the allies. Adding that to the weather and with some luck from the air force the town should fall. It was going to be holding it that was the tricky part because of the armor moving up the road. Being Airborne troops they had little in the way of anti armor expect hand held devices, the most effective being a few mines and the M9 Bazooka that was terribly ineffective against German Armor. Nevertheless if the town was in fact taken it would allow for an easy elimination of troops in the villa as they would be technically cut off and easily flanked.

Since the SS troops had pulled out, Fox Company unleashed their assault with some success. Small arms fire and close quarters ensued. Mortars rained down from all directions sometimes on top of friendly positions as they were being overrun. As expect the eastern side of the town was lightly protected but it didn’t stop the enemy from pouring into the attacking troops. Rifle grenades tore into windows and buildings sending glass and brick soaring. The soldiers they made it to the houses began hammering windows and tossing in concussion grenades. SMG fire swept small rooms and floors as soldiers pulled the trigger at anything that moved save civilians. The US had met the German mortar fire and began to overtake it as they began their own barrage hitting well known German hotspots. Rifle fire was met with bursts of MG-42 and 34 fire. Regardless of the casualties they Americans were getting the upper-hand and 2nd Squad was about to jump into the fray.

"I got one!" Otto shouted.

"Good!" Heinrich replied. "Unteroffizer Hamilton, take the second team out and flank them, we'll keep their heads down!"

Hamilton, Baumer, Paul, and Mike moved outside through the back way of the Villa, and sprinted to the opposite side of the wall. Meanwhile, Henrich had the rest of the squad pin down the Americans with a torrent of machine gun, sub machine gun, sniper, and rifle fire.

Riegel aimed at a Yank peeking off the corner and took him down with a headshot.

Then everything went silent, they had won their first skirmish.

Braun stood in the halftrack scanning the road with his bonoculars when he seen American troops taking cover behind a wall attacking the villa,

"Otto! cut across the feild, Americans are attacking the villa!!"

The SS sergent shifted the halftracks gears and drove off the road into the grassy field, Braun got on the 42 and opened fire.. in the direction of the enemy..

The halftrack seemed to slightly slow down, and the front tires seemed to have trouble turning,

"What the fuck is going on Otto!"

"We are getting bogged in sir!" He replyed..

Braun thought to himself, God damn it, could things get any worse..

The SS Sergent put the vehicle in reverse and it sprang backwards,

"Thats it!" Yelled Braun still putting supressing fire towards the Americans...

The Halftrack was still stuck but gradually getting out...

The Colonel replyed getting red in the face,

"THEN GIVE THEM EVERYTHING WE GOT! WHERE ARE OUR FUCKING PANZERS!"

The Sergent looked worried,

"I will find out Heer Colonel!" He saluted quickly and left...

The Colonel got back on the mircophone and started shouting words of encouragement to his men scattered all over the town, the gun fire was getting very close to the headquarters..to close for comfort..

-"Sure, no problem, the name's Wick by the way, Heinz Wick"- he said as he hopped back into the truck
-"Ok, just give us some time to get our stuff"-

“Alright men lets go, no stopping, come on!” shouted Sgt. Ern as he jumped out of his concealed position. He was screaming and yelling with all his might, his face beat red. The rest of the squad, without even thinking, was on there feet sprinting right behind him. Elements of the 3rd and 4th squads of Dog Company were on their left and right totaling some 25 men charging the south eastern corner of the town. They made it about half way between the forest and the town meaning they still had about 25 yards to go when MG-42 fire began to rake the field they were crossing. Instantly it was met by mortar and 30. Cal fire from the opposite woods in an attempt to cover the advance. Two more 42’s opened up along with a squad worth of small arms creating a wall of lead. The ground around the troops chirped upwards as the bullets smacked the ground. The left and right flanks were hit hard as paratroopers fell one by one. Finally within ten yards of the first two buildings the US troops dove into a small ditch which had a small hill the led to a fence on its top providing defilade for the charging soldiers. So far nobody had been hit, or at least, seriously wounded in 2nd Squad. Sgt. Tyler made a brief hand signal to Derby who quickly slung his Carbine over his shoulder and instead mounted an M9. Gripping hard the trigger he swung the Bazooka up and drilled a window which silenced one MG-42. A barrage of grenades silenced another leaving 1 more MG-42 to be dealt with before they the flanks could move. Again a barrage of grenades softened the ground floor of the Hotel Cosette which housed the majority of the squad of Paratroopers as well as the remaining 42.

Tyler and Derby were the first to enter the house all the while not being shy on the trigger. With weapons shouldered they began to clear the hotel, room by room. Their steps were deliberate, soft, yet quick as they made their way through the corridors of the hotel. 4 men to a level was how they played this round. Derby, Ern, Deacon, and Quintin took the first floor. As expected the majority of troops had already left for the eastern sector and western sector as the final remains of the force began to put pressure on the west. Although it was the weakest of the assault it provided some relief for the troops already engaged and kept the German forces spread out. Still the Kraut troops were still in the hotel. With two MG’s dead it was estimated that still left in the building were at least 10 more men. The bottom floor proved to be no less difficult than the rest. With Deacon on point they cleared the bottom floor from east to west as was they way the building was facing. It wasn’t until they reached the most western part aka the kitchen before they ran into some trouble. As Deacon stepped in he quickly spotted a German troop and fell to his knees, the shot rang out from the muzzle of a K98 just missed Derby’s neck who quickly returned fire clipping instead the German’s neck. Sgt. Ern quickly dashed in, spotted the German crawling for safety and for his weapon, and just as quickly dispatched him. Deacon got up just in time to see another German appear from behind a counter only to catch him with two shots to the chest before the German could fire off a round; making up for his dive earlier. With the bottom floor clean Sgt. Ern moved to the door leading to the western edge of town and saw a German laying down fire on the advancing troops. Steadying his M1 he swiftly put one in his shoulder and leg ending his war.

Meanwhile the second floor had more German soldiers to deal with. This time it was Lucius, Paden, Zacharias, and Orville who took the helm. With Orville on point they quickly and silently slipped up the stairs. Stopping at the top Jaxon peered around the corner with his Tommy gun and let out a spray as a soldier was moving across the hallway. This defiantly got the attention of the soldiers on that floor and a potato masher soon found its way into the hallway. The explosion did little damage but gave the US troops time to kick in the door to the nearest room on the right of the hallway. Jaxon and Paden hobbled in only to find an empty bed. Zach and Orville moved further down the hallway with their backs against the wall, hugging it as close as they could. A German poked his head around the corner but quickly retracted it. Regardless it was enough time to catch Zach and Orville in the open and another masher made its way into the hallway. Just before it went off they jumped into the first door on the left accidentally falling on two German troops. Before anyone realized what happened Jaxon had entered the room and ended the combat before it could get started. A thankful Zach and Orville got to their feet only to drop again when the close sound of gunfire cut the wood around them. Two German troops tried entering the room but Brodie had been covering the door and dropped both of them. That ended the second story clash, now it was on to the third.

The third story was simply an attic with two windows on each side of the top making it the next best location second only to the belfry. Leigh, Norman, Emrey, and Darien were responsible for this. A small fire fight ensued along the small staircase leading up but it proved to head no results. Grady tossed a grenade up which detonated but showed no results. After what seemed like an eternity they heard a small gurgling noise and down came a dead German troop. Its sudden drop startled the squad and they began firing at the body. Unbeknownst to them a German comrade had slipped a potato masher into the man's pants and without warning an explosion rang through the top story. A piece of shrapnel hit Kristopher in underneath the mouth and lodged itself somewhere in his brain instantly killing him. It was the first casualty for 2nd Squad. This sort of warfare angered the troops who suddenly rushed the third story and without bullets ended the two German lives residing with the 42 in the attic. With that the hotel was clear and the 2 remaining squads began to move out. The entire hotel took no longer than 4 minutes and already 1 had been killed. For now there was no time for sorrow the Kraut paratroopers had seemingly been eliminated and all that was left was a retreating group of regular soldiers into the center of town which was being dubbed, ‘Dead Man’s Corner’.

Baker looked left just to see a halftrack pull into the field. He looked down his right. coming around the corner of the wall was a German squad.

"Krauts ahead, and to our rights. Nixon, hold them off coming around that wall. I'll take the half track."

With bullets still wizing over their heads the men started firing their weapons. The halftrack opened up with machine gun fire and sent the men scrambling behind bushes. Baker and two other privates through their last gernades at the half track, while nixon set up the machine gun and began spraying every German that came around the corner, trying to flank them.

Reallydrunk']OOC: I can respond as the Whermact, my men are headed towards Vierville..they never went to the town, change of plan..it was in my recent post but i rp other soliders aswell in the meantime.

The halftrack inside the town was struck by a bazooka shell and the tracks were knocked off, also the man on the MG was ejected into the air. There was a Panther group comming up the main road that heard the shot, while German infantry rushed out of the halftrack the tanks also advanced towards the town cutting across a field..

"The house, fire on that house!!"

The Panther turret turned while the other tanks slipped out of sight behind houses...

As Ferguson and Henchmann managed to back into the cover of a ditch, Richard poked his head out to take a look; it was all clear for the most part; and sprayed his full clip at the dismounted infantry as he leapfrogged to the ditch under the combined fire of the other members of his fire team and the confused german troops.

He saw the house he was in take a 75 mm AP shell through the wall, in the ditch he reloaded his M1A1 and crawled behind a house to get another shot at the tanks.
--------
Sgt. Yoder decided to climb/fall out of his tree after suppressive fire from the germans started pruning the tre he was in. After he hit the ground he crawled to the ditch with Hench and Ferguson to plan further action.

"Where is Richards?"

"I don't know"

"Wrong answer, Henchmann, keep those krauts pinned while Ferguson flanks them with some grenades, I'll go find Richards, feel free to borrow any disused german equipment."

And off they went.

Ferguson went and took their left flank, using a hedgegrow to conceal his movement, Yoder went in search of Richards, using his Colt M-1911 to give semi-automatic supressive fire as he ran in a crouched position through the ditch/trench towards the german right flank, he then reloaded his pistol, fixed bayonet, lobbed a grenade, then stormed towards the wall of the nearest structure, a ruined house that recently took shell damage. He then dropped down to a prone position and took a look around the corner of a shell hole.

"Where's the rest of our division?"

He then suddenly came to the realization that he hadn't the slightest clue where he was, all he knew was that behind him somewhere was Henchmann, and somewhere else was Furguson and Richards and a few miles behind him where 16 dead Americans, oh and he's surrounded by germans... lots of them... with tanks...

He hadn't seen a single frenchman yet, or a french maid at the very least, and he was in France, wasn't he???

Cracks of gunfire echoed through Ste Marie Du Mont, the majority of the German resistance had fled into the surrounding countryside. The defence on the east side of town had collasped, most of the forces who had access to a radio received the message about the beaches and were in route, all Panthers and Tigers in the area moved further towards the coast line in an attempt to reinforce the beach which eneded in disaster for a long coloum heading towards Omaha when allied planes flew over and bombed them.

All the German soldiers with a will to fight fell back to the town center and barricaded themselves around the town hall where a Whermacht Colonel continued to shout words of morale over a microphone. A Whermacht Captian entered the room and threw up his salute,

"Sir! the Americans have flanked us and pushed all our remaining men with the will to fight back around this position.."

The Colonel replyed,

"The will to fight Captian?...you mean..deserters?"

The Whermacht Captian nodded with a worried look on his face, the Colonel walked out from behind the desk and spoke once more,

"Do we have a sizeable force to make a counter attack?"

"No Heer Colonel, the panzers have been diverted to the coast...our options are few..if we continue the fight it will ensure defeat.."

The middle aged officers eyes seemed to dim slightly,

"Send a man out into the square under a white flag...we must discuss terms of the surrender.."

The Captian thought to himself, American surrender..is he mad?..they have us..

"I know what your thinking Captian..not the American surrender..ours.."

The Captian left and had a Whermacht Corporal march out into the square with a white flag in hand....

Yoder noticed almost all the troops where retreating away from him, he picked off one German in the back with his rifle, then chased after them blazing away with his M-1911, he then dove for a nearby MP-40, he wasn't too sure how to they worked, but he could recognize a sight, cocking lever, magazine and trigger any day. When he pulled back the lever it appeared as if the round stovepiped, the bolt didn't close! (the MP-40 fired from an open bolt, with the charging lever held in the back by the trigger assembly)

He jumped for cover as he fiddled with the gun trying to "unjam" his new found gun, finally he brushed the trigger and a short burst of fire erupted on the brickwork in front of him.

"That was interesting..."

He loaded a fresh 9 mm 32 round clip charged and let a short burst go

"Huh, so that is how an MP-40 works..."

He then looked around, all the germans had taken advantage of the moment to withdraw, but he did see a sign:
"Sainte-Marie-du-Mont --->"
"<--- Hiesville"

"Not exactly where I intended to be (Sainte-Come-du-Mont), but at least I know I'm still in Normandy"
------
Stanley Ferguson saw a hotel, and an MG-42 layin on the ground, and heaven forbid, American troops! Reinforcements, they're saved!

He rushed the old german foxhole, and quickly checked to make sure the "dead" were really dead, then "inspected" the MG-42. (Keep in mnd he isnt a mahine gunner and therefore has only familairisation training with the M-1919 as the closest he ever got to an MG-42 before...)

He though the system looked familiar, like that of the M-1919, but many of the cams didn't look right, oh well, lets see if I can get this to work...

He loaded a belt, from the setup, it looked like a left hand feed only, then closed the cover, then charged the gun, he then took aim a a chunk of dirt in front of him and fired a very short burst.

He then rechecked the action, considered it that he "knew" how it worked, and then unloaded it, slung his garand behind him and then picked up the MG-42 to give to Henchmann.

After he linked up with these new guys first...
------
Richards managed to shake off the Panzers, he thinks so at least, he doesn't know how far he ran, but he could see an artillery battery of 105 mm howitzers just outside the city.

"We're going to need more men..."

Richards decided to get into another building and scope out the situation, and perhaps find out what happened to the rest of his squad.
------
Henchmann stopped firing, there was no need, all the germans either ran or where dead. He decided to change positions, prefferably one better to ambush approach routes to his current location.

OOC: My troops are not trying to move, my halftrack was bogged down..it's in reverse now gettin un-stuck...

Otto had the halftrack in reverse moving when multiple grenades exploded in front of it causing the squad to duck down,

"Give them grenades back!" Braun yelled to Kade and Danke..

The two Germans threw their own grenades back towards the wall, Otto floored it and drove quickly across the field, squad shooting while they sped past. The halftrack began the climb out of the field up a small mound of dirt, Brauns squad still fired in the direction of their enemy...

With the outer rim of the town under control the Allies were free to move up men and material with impunity especially because the Germans had abandoned most of their mortar positions. With that in mind the US mortar squads began to creep closer to the fighting thus inflicting more accurate fire upon the now fleeing enemy. What little troops remained to engage against the allies were now beginning to flee northwards toward the beaches which wasn’t a really big relief for them but at the time they didn’t know it. To further add to the success of the assault a small squad of Americans had arrived near the end and caught many Germans retreating causing even greater confusion. Although the town itself had been assaulted many times before this one finally broke the lines.

Nevertheless among a handful of Germans still fighting one was causing much havoc. Still sitting upon his perch high up in the belfry was the lone German spotter who seemed to have been forgotten during the battle, now it was his turn to do the attacking. The battle was winding down, the newly arrived American force charging into the fleeing Germans and Fox Company finally bearing down hard to the center of town. A few buildings remained occupied but they were clearly surrounded and not being SS it was assumed they would be surrendering soon or later, sooner if their ammo ran out. Sgt. Ern had linked up with Lt Col. Kassidy near an intersection just east of the town center. As Ern was giving the Colonel a small briefing a large shell exploded in the house across the street from them peppering the Colonel’s arm although nothing serious.

“Shit! It’s that damn spotter!” cried Kassidy in pain.

Sgt. Ern quickly replied while covering his head, “Arg! I’m on it sir!” With that he was off, sprinting and dashing along the battered road. Building after building took hits from what appeared to be 88’s or maybe 105’s. Wood and glass scattered along the path embedding themselves into anything they hit including flesh. The spotter had zeroed in the town after it was clear it was lost even with German troops still holding out. With this in mind it had to have been clear that once the Americans learned what was happening they would quickly end his life.

Sgt. Ern finally jumped into a small ditch where his squad was taking cover. “Alright boys that pesky little sumabitch in the tower is calling this in, referring to the artillery. Deacon, Derby, with me, lets go!” With a slight moan the two got up and made way for the tower just a few blocks down the road.

Meanwhile the radio began to chirp. The remaining 8 soldiers huddled under cover heard a muffled sound across the way.

“Come in come, anybody!? This is Eagle 1 Red 2; location: Easy 9, over!”

Hartmen, the radioman returned the call, “Eagle 1 Red 2 this is Eagle 1 Blue 7; location Dead 1 come back”

“Eagle 1 Blue 7, squad is in bad condition, holding, but barely. We need support and fast!”

“Eagle 1 Red 2 please stand by, we’ll get someone over to your location, just hold on. Can you give coordinates over?”

The 3 men squad neared the church to see a group of Americans holding at its base. Littered around them were countless bodies of both American and German troops. Deacon peaked up the stairs, which were spiral, and saw a number of bodies badly mutilated. He turned back in utter disbelief. “What the hell?” He asked a nearby soldier.

“That bastard booby trapped the entire staircase; he knows his time is up!” replied the obviously angry soldier. Sgt. Ern was looking around and than lit up as he came up with a brilliant idea. He turned to the group of soldiers as well as Deacon and Derby.

“You guys know where that 20 mm is?”

Back with the 8 remaining squad members the storm had rendered further communications useless. What was known was little and skeptical at that. The codes where right, or at least, had significance. Still as far as they knew there was a highly decimated squad fighting for its life somewhere near Cussy. For now the weather and barrage, which by the way was still as intense as when it started, kept them from doing anything but hide.

Deacon and Derby rolled the 20 into place, about 60 yards away from the base of the church. With a simple nod the gun began to elevate until the iron sights lined up just above the belfry. Suddenly the gun burped to life as the 20 mm round began to devastate the church tower seemingly evaporating the spotter inside. After a few minutes of cannon fire they eased off the trigger. The artillery began to slow and stop a good sign from their previous work. After a few hours the town seemed to instantly fall silent. Only sporadic gunfire in certain parts echoed during the rest of the day. A colonel wearing a German uniform had surrendered his troops which numbered less than 30.

With the town secure it was time for a little R&R and a debriefing before moving out again. Not only that but there was still the issue of the trapped squad, the new squad that showed up right in the thick of things, and Kristopher.

The German Colonel walked into the town square and started looking around for a high ranking American officer, all his men were comming out in single file unarmed. The Colonel stepped in front of his men who fell in at the bottom of the stairs, a Whermacht captian soon stepped in slightly behind him, the two looked around at the town at destruction the Americans had caused during their attack.

They waited to be spoken to silently standing in the rain at attention.

The majority of the German troops in the town had retreated into the countryside and had no intention of comming back, they would hook up with another company or regiment some time in the near future. The Panzer units that were supposed to support Ste Marie Du Mont the Colonel had requested we sent towards the beaches.

The two gloss black Citroen 15s screeched to a halt in the burning ruins of Ste Marie du Mont, their doors opening even as the drivers were braking. Leaping from the still-purring cars were the men of the Milice Francaise, under the direction of one Kurt Steiner, of the Gestapo. They stared in disbelief at the damage wrought by hard fighting, and gripped their weapons tighter.

"Adjudant-chef," barked Lieutenant Le Zouf, "I want a cordon around this square. Make sure no civilians get in or out."

"At once, Lieutenant!" came the reply.

Gathering the men of the snatch squad, Adjudant Groscin rattled off his orders. These men were hard men, veterans of four years of anti-partisan warfare, and most were members of Accion Francaise - committed Fascists. Within two minutes, the street was covered by their LMG, a Bren, seized at Dunquerque - and supported by the remainder with their Lee Enfields and Sten guns.

Only then did Steiner deign to step from the first car, MP-41 slung across his chest.

"So, Le Zouf, we are clear about our mission?"
"Yes, M'sieu, we are here to eradicate dissidents, bolsheviks, and Jewish elements and restore order to la belle France in the name of the Greater German Reich."
"Exactly. And now, to number 32 Rue Verdun, if you please."

Just then, a cry came from le Cochon, wheezing as always.

"Halt! Who goes there?"
"Fuck off," came the yelled response, "everyone's surrendered and the Amerikaners control the place."

Kurt went white with fury. Wrenching his sub machine gun round to the ready, he whirled off to face the newcomer. A bedraggled Whermacht man, streaked with dirt and unarmed, hoved into view. Le Cochon followed, warily, rifle aimed at the man's back.

"What do you mean, surrendered? The Fuhrer himself declared this town to be a Festung!"
"Fuck the bloody Fuhrer, you jumped up little shit, he's not fighting the Amerikaners and their endless bloody infantry with only Czechs and RAD for support!"
"You are clearly a deserter."
"I'm a what!?"

Steiner squeezed the trigger, a short, controlled motion that punched the soldier off his feet, into the dust of the road. Blood pooled rapidly, and flowed, crazily, towards a bomb crater.

"Le Zouf, get your men. We're going to round up as many men as we can and liberate this town."
"At once, M'sieu. Adjudant! To the cars!"
"Lieutenant!"

As the Milice strolled back to the cars, a harsh voice called from one of the buildings, "Well done, Gestapo, well done - we've been trying to put some backbone into these damn traitors all day!"

The door of the cafe opened, and out came, one by one, six men in the pea-pattern camouflage of the Waffen-SS.

"Excellent," said Steiner, "You and your men can come with us, Obersturmfuhrer. Do you have transport?"
"Ja, mein herr, the Bolshevik bitch who owned this place has a van around the back - two of my men have gone to get it."
"Even better. When you're ready, follow our lead. Caporal du Bois? If you drive behind the Obersturmfuhrer's van, we shall maximise our impact."
"At once, M'sieu."

Five minutes later, the street was quiet, but for the crackle of burning buildings and the caw-caw of the crows already pecking at the Whermacht man's corpse...

The convoy came to a halt in a small hamlet which was flying the Free French Flag. One of the Milice leaped out yelling "Arret! Arret! Police Allemande!"

Petersen ordered his men out of the van, seeing that the Gestapo officer was clearly interested in this hamlet. Petersen thought that perhaps it would be a better use of time to get to the rally point, but one did not question the will of a Gestapo man, especially as the Gestapo man was armed.

"Obersturmfuhrer", queried Gorobets, "target practice?"
"Ja", sighed Petersen, "you and the other Schutze round these foul traitors up into..." he paused as he searched for a suitable location, "use that church over there. Oberschutze, get those Milice over to help as well."
"Jawohl Obersturmfuhrer!" Beckenbauer marched off and conversed with a Milice soldier who strangely resembled a pig...
"The rest of you, eyes up and weapons ready." The SS men scanned around, but all they could see were proud soldiers of the Reich doing their duty. Petersen saw Zolyar and Cheburko grabbing a woman and dragging her towards the church. Cheburko cast a pleading glance towards Petersen, who nodded. The woman's screams grew louder as the two Ukranians, grinning from ear to ear, dragged her out of sight.
"I hope Cheburko doesn't get the crabs" muttered Wunderburg
"So undisciplined" mused Yuklig, toying with the safety catch of his MG42 "I hope the others can keep their mind to the task at hand."

And indeed they were. Under the watchful and experienced eye of SS-Oberschütze Beckenbauer, the Milice and the Ukranians had gathered the inhabitants of the hamlet into the small church. Steiner was standing by his car, watching with much interest as Gorobets closed the door to the church. As the door shut, the SS men cocked their weapons out of sheer instinct and spread out to encircle the structure. Bizarrely, the inhabitants had put up little struggle, save that of the woman who was enjoying the tender mercies of Zolyar and Cheburko.

"For crimes against the Reich," yelled Petersen, "For flying the flag of traitors and for resisting the international crusade against Bolshevism, die, Zionist dogs!" As he said this, a Milice soldier threw in a petrol bomb, setting the church alight. Screaming, many tried to rush out of the door but they fell under the zealous fire of the Milice and the careful, aimed shots of the SS men. Soon all of the villagers lay dead, and the two Ukranians returned with the woman limp and being dragged between them.

"Did we miss the fun?" beamed Zolyar, massaging his crotch. Nodding, his squadmate added "Sounded like a right laugh"
"Da, very amusing. Nothing we haven't done a hundred times before..."
"But fun all the same, eh?" Chuckled Gorobets

"Stop talking in that filthy language!" snapped Steiner
"Jawohl mein Herr!" the Ukranians snapped to attention and saluted the Gestapo man.
"Then let us move out" declared Steiner, opening the door to the car. The Milice obediently bounded in, the SS men following. Yuklig bent down and lit a cigarette from the still-burning corpse of a young child, savouring the sweet taste of tobacco.
"Those things are bad for you, the Fuhrer said so himself" Petersen's tone was mildly rebuking
"Hey, I deserve a break after exterminating these lice" moaned Yuklig
"True, very true. Hows about a song men, to lighten the mood?" Asked Petersen as he sat down in the passenger seat. The Ukranians dumped the woman on the ground and clambered into the back of the van.

As the convoy drove away, the Horst Wessel song could be heard from the van, and Steiner hummed along

IC:

The Normandy countryside rolled past the windows of the little convoy as it roared south-west, bypassing Du Mont by a fair distance. The little town's church tower poked up from the treeline, an unfamiliar flag fluttering from its spire.

"Caporal," said Lt. Le Zouf, "pass me the field glasses."
"Certainly sir, just a second..." after a bit of fumbling, Du Bois handed his officer the Zeiss binoculars.

Peering through the window at the steeple as it flashed in and out of view, Le Zouf swore.

"Merde! It's an American flag! The savages have taken Du Mont!"
"Then, Lieutenant," breathed Steiner, "we had best retake it."
"I... M'Sieu, we should link up with other units first, surely?"
"Of course. 15 men does not an assault force make. There is a villa nearby which is as far as I'm aware in our hands. Groscin? Take this next left."
"At once, M'sieu!"

In the van, Petersen glanced at his map. Excellent, he thought, action again. Extermination is necessary, but combat is the cauldron in which the New Man will be forged...

As the convoy drove to the villa, the following could be heard

"Die Fahne hoch die Reihen fest geschlossen

Kam'raden die Rotfront und Reaktion erschossen
Marschier'n im Geist in unsern Reihen mit

Die Strasse frei den braunen Batallionen
Die Strasse frei dem Sturmabteilungsmann

Die Fahne hoch die Reihen fest geschlossen

Suddenly gunfire broke into the song and the convoy screeched to a halt just under half a kilometre from the villa. The men dived out of their vehicles and took cover by the side of the road, Steiner clearly being disgusted at his impeccably clean greatcoat now being tainted by filthy non-Germanic soil.

"All right men, calm down. We've had our fun, now it's time to get to work. Time to show these Bolshevik Zionist dogs the business end of the Waffen SS!" Petersen's speech clearly roused the SS men
"Don't forget us," wheezed an obese Milice soldier
"I'd rather do so"
"Oh" the Milice man looked crestfallen, now that he knew he was expendable.
"Check your weapons" ordered Steiner, and the sounds of safety catches being removed and magazines being fitted could be heard.
"For the Reich and the Fuhrer!" said Petersen as he moved out of cover towards the villa
"For the Reich and the Fuhrer!" screamed the SS men, the Ukranians louder than most

The rain had let up now, slowing to only a light mist. Steam gently rose from the ground in the town’s low spots which spiraled upwards and off with the wind. Smoke followed the same route although there was little fire because of the rains. All that was left smoldering was the inside of certain buildings creating a hissing crackling sound to be heard from anywhere in the city. By now the roads were in terrible shape and moving by foot was just as good if not better than by vehicle eliminating the possibilities of a German counter attack with armor any time soon. With this in mind it was time for a little rest and refitting before they got orders to go somewhere else. The streets were busy despite their condition. Fox Company had taken up residence due in part because there was indeed rumors of a counter attack in the making, its time and location would and could not be known. Nevertheless they set up fortifications in and around the city. It wasn’t US policy to defend the city itself but rather to protect it from just outside the city. Given the time frame and the quickness of combat right now it wasn’t so much a big deal but even still the city itself was slowly becoming a fortress, at least as much as it could. The remaining number of troops not connect to Fox varied from time to time sometimes having and extra 100 men or sometimes just 12 extra, yet these units were being sent to hold off the perimeter.

Sgt. Ern reported back to his men after a visit to the Colonel. Much to his surprise two were missing. As it turns out they were checking on the grim condition of Kristopher. In the mean time he saw to his unit’s refitting and small talk. Deacon and Derby returned sullen and emotionless. Their eyes were hollow and hands were trembling…Kris was dead had been since the explosion. The news, although everyone seemed to have known, was a shock. Kristopher was their first causality, a KIA at that. It hit home, the men all very quiet. Although Tyler understood the need for emotions he could not let it affect the men, he knew this wasn’t the last one. Finally, as if sent from above, the food that Ern had requested was sent courtesy of the Fox Company cooks and Du Mont’s fine eating establishments. As they slowly began to eat he moved towards the Hotel where Kris was killed. He would bury Kris himself but deep down he knew he had gotten to close to the men, he couldn’t do this 10 more times even now the shovel was shaking so much he could hardly make any progress.

By this time now it was almost certain the beaches were full of the dead and dying. The entire squad wondered how the landings where doing. Every now and again a flyboy would zip past overhead but that was about it. Sgt. Tyler returned from his grim work and began to brief his men as they finished eating. “The beach landings are taken some heat but things are looking bright. The Brits and Canadian are having a good go, the Americans are having it a little tougher but, from what command tells me, we should be hearing some tanks in a couple of hours.” There was a slight cheer from his men, laughing and joking mostly. He continued, “Eat up now, I believe we are moving out in a little. There is a villa down the road that’s taken some heat, lost a few squads out there one of which is hiding out. Thing is it’s got a high powered radio and is said to be host to a staging ground for a counter attack on this here location. We take the villa I think we eliminate the possibility of an attack on this little hamlet of ours.” His voice was broken, his English still not top quality and there wasn’t the ounce of humor in his tone.

Suddenly the 20 mm they captured chirped to life spraying out huge rounds at a vehicle on the other side of town. Seems the SS or something wanted to have a look at the town for themselves. If the American flag didn’t do it the rounds exploding around them sure had to piss them off. Ern finished, “Don’t worry though it isn’t just us going. Another squad of Airborne will be joining us as well.” Just as he said that the commander of the squad mention before strolled up ready and seemingly waiting.

Omaha

The MG42 bunkers put heavy supressing fire on the American troops that rushed off the transports, mortors exploded all over blowing soldiers high in the air with missing limbs. Behind the beaches at a place called Bren court manor 105mm howitzers rained hell a little further down the coast line, the Americans had barely no cover and were dropping like flys to the MG's and mortors. The coastal defence artillary bunkers fired their rounds further out to sea, huge explosions sent the water sky high.....

Earlier the allies had hit the main roads with bombers taking out armor coloums bound for the beach although some made it through. German command was unsure what to do but were told that the allies do not make it past the bunkers into what they refered to as fortress europe, hundreds had fallen by this time but they seemed to be gathering below the barbed wire near the sea wall.

As the last of the Waffen-SS slipped into the bocage, the Milice prowled up the road towards the villa. As they drew closer, the sporadic crackling of gunfire increased in volume, and they began to make out the tearing bursts of MG-42s intermingled with the rapid pak-pak-pak of Garands.

Suddenly, Adjudant Groscin whirled, his Sten whisking up to point into the trees.

"Zut! Un parachutiste!"

Before he could squeeze the trigger, dispatching the helplessly tangled American, Steiner stepped forwards, hand raised.

"Nein. Wait. He could be useful. Cut him down."
"At once, M'sieu!" replied Caporal du Bois, reaching for his flick-knife.

Soon, the wounded para was on the ground, being questioned by Steiner in a cut-glass English accent. Eton, y'know.

"So, private, where are you supposed to be?"
"James Jones, Private, 29193."
"82nd Airborne, I see. Hm. Will you tell us anything other than name, rank and number, you foolish little man?"
"James Jones, Private, 29193."
"Very well," sighed Steiner, switching to French, "shoot this man."

At once, rifles crashed. Private Jones shuddered backwards, and lay still.

"Now," broke in Lieutenant Le Zouf, "we're late. To the villa!"

Advancing in skirmish order, the eight men moved cautiously towards the fighting - but the first they knew of their enemy was when Boiton jerked, staggered, and pitched forwards into the dust of the road, fingers clawing desperately as he choked and frothed his life away.

Scattering instantly, even as the echoes of the BAR died away, the Milice let rip - .303 rounds barked up the trail towards the American position, and were replied to by the stuttering hammer of a thirty cal.

Lying in the roadside ditch, Steiner groaned. His greatcoat was ruined now. He pushed the muzzle of his MP-41 above the lip of the ditch, aimed roughly at the flashes of the .30 and punched out a magazine.

The firing stopped, then started again.

"We're pinned," cried Le Zouf, "get that bloody Bren gun onto them!"

Seconds later, it began cracking out bursts, adding to the whining, twinkling exchange of fire between hedgerow and ditches. The villa itself was just visible between the trees...

The SS men had been keeping a loose eye on the Milice, and were not impressed by their military prowess at all. Petersen had ordered them into extended line, using hand signals rather than verbal commands to remain as tactical as possible. Gerasymenko was appalled at how the Milice had treated the paratrooper.
"Waste of good bullets" he mused to himself, "a knife to the throat would've been quicker and more stealthy, plus more fun"At the thought of bloodshed, his mind wandered back to the village where he had indeed had a lot of fun less than an hour ago. So lost was he in his recollections that he was utterly shocked when he heard a .30 open up. Training and years of experience took over, as the SS men dropped to the floor and crawled through the thick bush, yet they did not open fire as they could see no target.
"Auf da!" yelled Yuklig as he ruined a bush with his MG-42, briefly halting the machine gun, only for bullets to impact all around Petersen and his men.
"How many?" Yelled Petersen
"5 i think!" answered Yuklig as he continued to put down supressing fire. From the bush ahead muzzle flashes could be seen, and Petersen agreed that it was 5 weapons that were being fired. Could be more though....
A cry went up to Petersen's right, and he saw one of the Ukranians moaning and cradling his left hand. A string of curse words could be heard, and Petersen thought he could see a bloody finger lying on the back of another Ukranian who was dutifully supressing the enemy.
"Gorobets, Yuklig, put down fire, the rest of you, prepare to charge!" Many thought the Obersturmfuhrer had gone slightly mad, but he had lead them through many fights before.
"For the Reich and Fuhrer!" yelled Petersen as he stood up and raced towards the Allied position with 4 other men on his heels. He saw a man pitch backwards, but there was no time for concern. He threw a grenade and was rewarded with screams of wounded and dying Allied men, American by the sounds of things. The SS troops didn't pause, and carried on running through the position.
"REORG!" screamed Petersen, and the other men came bounding along, Gerasymenko with his weapon in one hand as his other was a bloody mess.
"Beckenbauer, search the dead!" came the order, and the Oberschütze carefully approached the dead soldiers.
"ZOLYAR GET HERE!" yelled Wunderburg, clearly not impressed with the tardiness of the Ukranian who was aprroaching slowly, with a large bloody spot on the top of his leg.
"Shrapnel mein Obersturmfuhrer" said Zolyar as means of apology
"Are you fit to fight?" came the query
Turning white, Zolyar answered "Always!!", remembering what admitting weakness had cost his countrymen on the Eastern Front
"Then let us continue once Beckenbauer returns"...

Boiton was dead, but there was no time for little more than removing his personal effects and ammunition.

Together with the Waffen-SS, the Milice advanced onto the remains of the US ambush - just five bodies, three of them around the .30 cal. Nothing of interest.

Moving rapidly through the trees, the scratch unit was onto the encircling paratroopers before they knew what was going on. Tracer flicked through the air between villa and grounds, as grenades and mortars tore through the night with their flash-crash explosions.

Yelling wordlessly, the milice charged through the surprised paras, rifles banging as the Stens stuttered their staccato sprays of lead over the short brrt-brrt of the Bren gun. To their left came the tearing noise of MG-42s smashing into the exposed backs of the 82nd Airborne soldiers, to their right came the noises of close-quarters fighting as the Ukranians fell upon a .50 cal and its crew.

In the midst of it all, illuminated by the strobing flashes of gunfire, stood Steiner, clinically hammering out short bursts from his MP-41, a feral grin on his lips...

With both squads geared and ready to go they began their long haul across the French Bocage to the villa which was in actuality only few miles down the road. In-between the naval shells and US air craft flying above one could actually hear the rather intense fire fight taking place. With the weather still somewhat bad and a battle blazing away intelligence was iffy at best with hardly any communication. Yoder, the squad leader of the other group, volunteered his outfit for point which Sgt. Ern agreed with wanting to give his boys a slight break, if that’s what you’d call a break. Nevertheless the storm was in fact easing up if only for a slight period of time. If the weather did break it would give the allies a nice advantage that was a dominating air presence. The allied fighters were still strafing at anything worth wile although the weather had kept most grounded. They were so feared the German’s referred to them as the Jabos. Regardless the two squads trudged forward into the unknown.

Despite their mission they weren’t there to be the heroes and if things got to risky they were to pull back to the town which was sure to encounter a counter attack. Still if they could secure the villa it would be a nice early warning thus eliminating the threat of an attack from the west. Not only that but it would knock out German communications in the area…or intercept them. So they trekked through the woods and mud filled roads, each drenched in rain. Every step took them closer to the fighting, to the noise of death and destruction. Who ever was in the path of the German advance there was putting up a hell of a fight. Hopefully they could hold out until the reinforcements could arrive.

Yoder was on point when they entered the woods from the east which leads to the fighting and the villa. Unsure of anyone’s position they were going to be very cautious. The gunfire was intense so they did have to be quick though and soon they were deployed and moving in seemingly unnoticed.

Ferguson was scorned for making a mess of things, he didn't really intend to shoot that supply truck, oh well, what is done is done.

He had to talk the CO that he wasn't even an officer, just a private, and that his temporay CO was out looking for their demolitions expert, but that didn't sem to interest them much, along with the fact that their whole 'squad' comprised of 4 men provided they didn't take any more casualties.

Ferguson, after recieving orders to find the rest of his 'squad' and try and find another missing squad with a high power radio, he set out back to the ditch he left Henchmann in, only to find himself staring down the barrel of enchmann's BAR, he selected his ambush perfectly, and Ferguson was lucky enough not to get shot. He then traded the MG-42 and Garand for the BAR so that both of them had a rifle caliber automatic weapon.
-----------
Richards noticed that the tanks had stopped moving, and had a very good view of the 105 mm battery, which for a time shelled the town but thn turned their attention to the coast, he also noted a counterattack forming up around some french cars and trucks. Just then he saw Yoder playing with an MP-40, snuck out, and then grabbed him, and gave him a panaramic tour from the building he occupied.
----------
Shortly after Yoder figured out where he was, he was jumped by Richards, after showing Richards his new 'burp gun' Richards scolded him and told him his expertise would be required, and then showed him the problem.
-*-
A 105 mm gun battery, in a V trench with plenty of light ack-ack, any small fighter bomber would be shot to pieces, the heavies would miss, and the target was too far to be shot with artillery, not a limit of the guns, but of the ship's radar and the range of the para's average radio.

Yoder decided they needed more men, and returned to the ditch, only to find Derguson and Hencmann arguing and bartering out in the open over a german Machine gun.
-*-*-
After a quick bit of yelling, everything became clear, first they would assist in taking the 105 mm guns and knocking them out once and for all, they would inform Able company of the 'blindspot' in the 105 mm artillery and capture or spike their guns (render them useless).

The problem was, by the time they returned to the church, nobody seemed to care about the guns a mere half mile away, and perfectly within the company's capability to take, they seemed more interested in taking a villa and saving a few dozen lives instead of silencing a battery and saving hundreds.

(Those guns are vital, if they remain all of Utah beech could be lost -this is sort of why the americans sent a seprate landing on Pointe-Du-Hoc [to silence heavy coast defense guns])
-----------
All his talk just got him sentanced to point,
"the squad CO on point, just great, a sniper at that, and I'm still on point... Why couldnt Ferguson do this, hey, Fergusson, your turn on point now..."

Ferguson obeyed, he was slightly lugged down carrying both his M-1 and the BAR, but it simplified logistics to give him almost all that remained of the squad's .30-06 leaving a little for Yoder and then giving the M1911 to Hencs and therefore Richards had all the .45 while Yoder had the 9 mm carried in a german web gear he "borrowed" and Henchmann was stuck with the MG-42 and 7.62 mm german stuff in massive swaths.

simple rundown:
4 grenades per person
Yoder: M-1903, MP-40 [german web gear],
Ferg: BAR and M-1
Hench: MG-42, M-1911
Rich: M1A1 (Bazooka) and M-3, picked up a pair of "potato mashers" from Yoder

Allied Airborne: Villa rescue attempt
Ferguson caught a glimpse of the villa and then layed down, Yoder then crawled up and took a look through his scope, a pair of shermans, a villa, and a bunch of dead bodies...

A few German vehicles, the villa looked occupied by germans, no sign of any living paratropers...

Yoder had Hench and himself travel North in the woods in order to give the Villa enfilading fire from the MG-42, he then told Ferguson that he was not to advance any farther until Hench fired with his MG-42.

He also told Ferg to ask the other troops also not to advance until Yoder's team had them distracted, and under no citcumstances to use the mortars unless the germans move out of the villa.

With those orders to his squad he moved out with Henchmann to the north through the woods, niether had consulted the other squad before doing this.

Richards asked what the two where up to, to this, Ferguson replid, "Yoder lives where there are trees, you ever been around trees?"

"We had trees in the city park."

"Those don't count."

Wondering if I should pull a "friendly fire" assault, or try and act like a POW and a German Soldaet.
(it depends on what I could do with an MP-40, 2 german grenades and a colt M-1911 at point blank versus an MG-42 and M-1903 at long versus luring the SS out into the open to get motared and shot with enfilading MG fire)

decided.

Yoder and Henchmann made it to the north side of the Villa, which they could see in the distance.

Yoder scoped out the villa in particular this time, checking through the windows to see a number of german troops.

Yoder then instructed Hench to set up about 100 yards to the west of him and train his gun on the door, and to let at least 5 germans out of the cabin before opening fire, and to fire upon the villa only. The only exception would be if the germans started shooting at them from inside the house, then he would aim his MG-42 at the window of the german marksman and fire his whole belt into the general location, then to move farter to the west, reload, and fire upon another window.

Yoder then set himself up with his M-1903 scoped rifle under the shde and cover of a hedgegrow and bush, he used his face viel to make it even more difficult for the germans to spot him, he then waited for a german to get lax in front of a winow and then fired a round, he hit the man, but about a foot too low, in the chest rather than the head, he would correct his aim on the next shot, he checked to see their reaction before he would reload (if even).
----
Ferguson and Richards heard a single loud shot ring out, it was very distinct from the noise a garand, enfield, or mauser made, it must have been Yoder...

They then remembered orders, not to move until the machine gun fired, and only to fire mortars if the germans left the villa. Ferguson decided to finally pass the message down to the other squad.

So the assault on the villa was about to begin this time done right. If all went to plan than the Germans inside wouldn’t know what hit them. Thankfully, if you could call it that, for the Germans the allies didn’t know the atrocities they had just committed let along that it was them who did it. Had they known that it wasn’t humans inside but rather monsters with no souls than they would easily die to kill every last one of them.

With Yoder planning the assault all Ern had to do was position his men and wait for the turkey shoot to being. Oddly enough there weren’t any Germans, or at least not many, at their vehicles. With that in mind Ern placed Quintin, who had previously switched his Garand with a BAR before leaving Ste Marie Du Mont, to set up his bipod as to be able to fire upon any Germans attempted to make a break to their vehicle. Under the cover of a head log Spencer deployed his Automatic Rifle for maximum killing efficiency. The remainder of the squad was set up as to fire individually at guards posted around the villa. Once the firing began all hell was going to break loose.

When the MG did open fire three men, Ern, Derby, and Brodie, were to move as fast as possible to a small broken stone wall that surrounded the villa. The wall had once been complete and covered every entrance to the villa but allied bombing had rendered it into small fragments that would prove a gift in this situation. Only about 20 yards from the villa itself it would give them plenty of cover to lay down a horrific fire on the enemy if they made it out of the house past the 42 fire. Now all they could do was wait.

Hmm, read closer pleaes, Brink's men are safely behind the treeline and in concealed positions (laying down), very unlikly that you saw them. And they are not at the stone wall, yet.

Yoder and Hench are way out in the north end of the villa, just tiny well camaflaged specks barely within rifle range.

Also, which group did you spot? And how far is the treeline from the wall?

Yoder then resumed shooting his M-1903 through the windows of the villa.

Ferguson and Richards saw a squad next to a halftrack start to move, yell, then fire at them, Richards hunkered into a good position to get a flanking shot at the halftrack, and readied his M9A1* bazooka.

Ferguson decided to crawl a little deeper into the woods in order to draw out the halftrack.

Whoever was inside the villa was now dead.

Yoder hd yet to see any movement inside the Villa, he thus instructed Hendhmann to fire a short 3 second, 60 round burst, expending an entire amo bet in the process from the MG-42, Yoder helped reload.

Afterwards Yoder watched the vila carefully for any sign of life, which he planned to promptly extinguish.

The signal had been given.

Ferguson got up, BAR at the hip, the gun was originaly designed to give covering fire while assualting fortified positions, and one could bet that the villa had now become a fortified position.

He fired 4 round (1 second) bursts every 4 steps he took, the 20 round magazine (BARs where issued 40 round AA magazines, but these interfered with the bipod) would provide decent suppressive fire for a vital 20 seconds as he and the other squad sprinted for cover, upon the 20th step, Ferg heard the expected 'click' as the last round was fired and the hold open device asked for anothe magazine, which he promptlly fed it, and then resumed firing
(Ferg was a temporary Assistant Automatic Rifleman, and therefore knows his way around a BAR, also note the sound is 'click' not the 'ping' the M-1 Garand made).

It wasn't long until he made it to the stone wall, beside him was Richards, whom he didn't notice until he heard a bazooka go "Fwoosh" into a nearby halftrack. Afterwards he opened up with his own M-3A1 'Grease gun'.

An MG-42 could be heard in the background pinging divets into the rear plate of the flaming german halftrack as they checked the intirior of the villa

As Yoder saw the rest of his squad enter the villa, he decided that the villa was finally secure, and then helped Hench pick up and carry the MG-42.

Inside they found mounds of dead paratroops and more recently dead german and french troops. The grissly picture told a story that should never have happened. Richards was the first to start picking through the bodies for supplies, food, ammunition, and medical supplies mostly.

The rest soon followed suite.

Villa

The loud thuds of the BAR hammer as it was fired in one shot bursts at the halftrack traveled through the forest quickly reaching the rest of the men. With that the sound of ping’s from the numerous M1’s sounded off as they began to quickly neutralize the guards who were now fleeing in confusion. Those who stayed to fight quickly found their grave as mortars began to pepper their defensive location. The men began to sprint for the wall alongside the men from the other squad, guns a blazing.

The backdoor of the villa sprung open and out came a number of German and French troops. They were quickly making their way to the halftrack but soon found themselves in a hellish cross fire of which included a well aimed, well concealed BAR. Spencer unleashed a torrent of shots which effectively cut down most of the soldiers. Once pinned a Bazooka shell ended any attempt to flee by halftrack. The attack had been a complete surprise and therefore a complete success. However the Germans and French refused to surrender as they were in fact die hard. After about 30 minutes of intense firefight the Americans finally out flanked them and killed every last one of them. The Americans had not lost a single man during the attack and now had full control of the Villa. Now Ste. Marie Du Mont was officially captured. The rest of the company was setting up camp in the town awaiting further orders. Reinforcements were on there way as the two squads began to dig in.

The beach landings were by now mostly over or at least should have been. The day had been long and hard and wasn’t even close to being over. Already one member had been killed, Kristoper Darien. Luckily for everyone else nothing more than some scratches and bruises. With everyone settling down it was time to secure their location. Pickets and observers were dispatched around the villa to provide early warning. That allowed for the rest of the men to relax and get acquainted with the other squad. To add to the defense the men began to construct defensive works, foxholes, and hastily built bunkers using whatever they could find. This included a few mines along the main road leading to the villa which, due to the forest surrounding it, would render armor useless.

The loud thuds of the BAR hammer as it was fired in one shot bursts at the halftrack traveled through the forest quickly reaching the rest of the men.

BARs are full auto only [to keep costs down]
You can pick between slow (about 300 to 400 RPM) and fast (500 to 600 RPM) by turning a switch.
In 1940, the final BAR model — the M1918A2 — was introduced. This model did away with the semi-automatic option in favor of fully-automatic fire only. The rate of fire was adjustable, with a choice between "fast-auto" (500–650 round/min) and "slow-auto" (300–450 round/min).

IC
Yoder's squad regrouped, the other squad thanked Yoder, Henchmann, Ferguson and Richards for their selfless actions, Hench and Yoder then set up inside the Villa, while Richards helped dig holes using captured german grenades while Ferguson dug starting holes.

Within a matter of minutes the two of them managed to make enough foxholes for everybody.
(Combat Engineer maxim: Anything can be done with the right amount and application of explosives)

Next came the task of finishing the foxholes and making trenches, this would require the use of shovels only.

In the meantime, Yoder watched outside for any enemy while Henchmann searched for German rifle ammunition for the MG-42, his 3 short bursts quicly demonstrated their appatiet for ammo by eating up over 200 rounds.

Yoder, lacking .30-06 ammunition (he spent it all on the assault) replaced his M-1903 with a german Mauser 98K he found on the dead.

Richards was given the rest of the .45 cal ammunition and Colt M-1911 while Henchmann was given a Walther P-38 and some captured 9 mm ammunition.

Very false, you are thinking of the M-1918A1 (not the current M-1918A2), and the M-14 rifle or the M-1/M-2 Carbine (also invented by Garand and sometimes called such).

Oh well, you could be using a pre 1940 M-1918 which can fire semi-auto.

And I can make an M-1903 Springfield fire full auto too, but that system is obsolete.

So many M-1s
M-1 Garand rifle (8 round charger, fixed box mag) Semi-Auto only
M-1 Garand carbine (15 or 30 round detachable box clip)
M-1 and M-1A1 Thompson SMG
M-1 and M-1A1 Bazooka

Which one you in, oh yeah, the one with the SdKfz 251 parked out back and I've been shooting full of holes for the pas week without any response?

You'll have to respond to my sniper before you can respond to his troops.
Since his actions where caused by my actions caused by the fact that it was implied that nothing was left alive in the Villa otherwise they would have responded by now.

Tit's was declared dead before we even arrived, so don't try pulling that phoney card.

You also don't have the excuse that you've been offline while we waited for you to post your response.

I even posted a reinder that I was still using a sniper on the villa, still silence.

Then I finally caved in under pressure to go ahead with the attack and used the above logic to prove that everybody at the villa had either left, died, or was waiting for a better time to respond to us (like now).

Actually im 100 % sure you can rig a Garand to become Fully Auto in fact they did that quite frequently by the end of WWII and Alot in Korea. You can search for it, if i had time i would myself. It was a tricky process so not many people could.

Note: Winters from Band of Brothers had one ready for him to fight in Korea thanks to "shifty" powers from Easy but Winters didnt fight in Korea so he never used it.

Also: I'll be away for a week, in that respect Hurtful now has control of my troops. I would like it that none of the original die, feel free however to add members and then kill them off.

Again, I can rig a bolt action rifle to fire fully auto as well, and it was a simple process so long as you had the equipment available.

Brink, in a week I'll be gone as well, so you'll have to pick up my squad as well as your own when you get back, and feel free to split up the squads not based on who originally had them , but by what they need to do.

This should settle it:

Two interesting variants that never saw duty were the M1E5 and T26 (popularly known as the "Tanker Garand"). The M1E5 is equipped with a folding buttstock, while the T26 uses the standard solid stock, and has a shorter, 18-inch barrel. The "tanker" name was also used after the war as a marketing gimmick for commercially-modified Garands. Another variant that never saw duty was the T20E2. This variant is, at its simplest, a Garand modified to accept Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) magazines and has selective fire capability in semi- and fully-automatic modes.

T-27
Remington select-fire field conversion for M1 Garand; ability to convert issue M1 Garands to select-fire rifles; fire control setup used in T22E3

As Brink's troops:

Villa/Radio Station/Radar Post
Sgt Tyler Ern decided to personally inform command of their progress, using the capture High powered radio, he reported to have been part of the 1st Division (omited the 100 to cause the germans confusion), and captued Du Mont and a nearby Villa that had a High Powered Rdio and Radar, he also reported that another unit commanded by Lt Winters secessfully captured a german gun battery with the loss of 5 troops total in their entire combat action (Lt Winters lost 4). He also asked when he would expect more tanks to arrive.

Outside the men's spirits had risen considerably, they seccessfully took a villa with no loss to themselves, a few, such as Pvt. Leigh Hartmen, where still slightly pessimistic since Kristopher's death, and as such he was told to lighten up.

With the aid of Yoder's "Miricle unit" they had finished making foxholes well ahead of schedual, and spent their free time talking with the men back in Britian and listening to the radio, others who saw this as a brief chance, scavenged through the dead for supplies, which they had started to run low on ammo.

Ripley Emrey picked up an MG-42 in order to replace his M-1 Carbine since it was running out of ammunition, but too keep it from getting lost, he gave it to Corporal Derby Finnegan, who also had an M-1 Carbine, but vehemently didn't want to give his up.

It was decided that both of them would become a MG unit, so that Emrey could keep track of his M-1 and so that Finnegan wouldn't be so exposed in future actions.

Ripley Emrey also picked up an MP-40 and some german web gear in order to carry more clips.

Wilfred Orville gave his Thompson to Ollie Zacharias so that he could pick up the FM-24/29 light Machine gun. He also stuffwed himself with as much french 7.5 mm as he could carry, and loaded Ollie Zacharias down as well with the stuff, in addition to their M1A1 Thompsons.

The remaining MP-40s where picked up by members of Ern's unit armed almost exclusively with their M-1 Garands in order to improve their firepower and make them less dependant on their own ammunition. These people took the german magazine pouches and attached them to their original belts.

Captured guns:
9 mm
6 MP-40
Karl Steiner's Walther P-38 taken by Henchmann
7.62 mm German
5 Mauser 98K
Yoder has: Soldat Otto's G-43/K-98
MG-42 - taken by Ripley Emrey
7.5 mm French
3 MAS-36 Rifles
FM-24/29 - taken by Wilfred Orville

101st, 506th regiment (http://ww2-airborne.us/units//506/506.html) and 327th Regiment (http://ww2-airborne.us/units/327/327.html), but close enough...

Villa has been taken by 13 paratroops with supportive fire (unoticed by the paras) from your men.

Yoder and Henchmann spotted tanks, American tanks, but the men using them where british...

"Those guys look a little lost, but their help sure is appreciated."
Henchmann told Yoder

Yoder waved at them and tried to get a lift on one of the Shermans to the villa. But to no avail.

Later
Yoder and Henchmann gave an instructional on how to work the German MP-40 and MG-42.

Orville was trying to figure out how to work the FM-24/29 with the aid of the Automatic riflemen, who had more success teaching Sgt Ern how to use a BAR.

A group from Ern's squad found and reclaimed an American M-1919 machine gun, which was quickly demonstrated to them by Henchmann.

Afterwards Yoder practiced firing his new sniper rifle. (assumng it is a G-43)
It performed a little better than the Garand, and it had a scope, he didn't much like the protruding box until he noticed it could be removed, and held 10 rounds!

It didn't take much more convincing to make him drop his M-1903 in favor of this awsome weapon, but he still dragged the M-1903 and a full clip of .30-06 in case the new gun failed him.

The four tanks rolled across the road in a staggered line. The first two were a SS Tiger, then the StuG, with another Tiger, followed by a Panzer IV. They gradually came to a stop, and formed a small circle, and the commanders climbed out. They grouped up, looked at a map, argued, then all climbed back into their respective tanks. The tanks turned around, and rolled back the way they came, turning at a sign that said, in French, "Villa <-". The sound of American chatter coming from inside on radios.

It was strange really, thought Tommy, they hadn’t really stopped and looked around since they started their private war with Hans.

Tommy, cradling his .303in Enfield No. 4 Mk I (T) Rifle, stood in the middle of the road peering through the tree line that ran by the road, at a church tower in the distance.

“I’d say about 700 metres,” he muttered to the man stood next to him. He was a hulking man, wearing a beige beret with the winged dagger proudly displayed on the front, he refused to take it off… His name was McDonald, and he was a fierce red-headed Scotsman.

“Aye, probably… Do ye think hee fired from there laddy?”

Tommy looked down at the corpse of the American paratrooper and tapped the space near his head wound with his foot, “Only way Hans could have got the height he needed for the entrance wound.”

Tommy Davis and John ‘Jock’ McDonald were, at some point at least, part of the 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion, and they had dropped with the rest of the Battalion at Benouville. They never saw their objective however… A Major, with a bushy mustache saw their ghillie suits and rifles and instantly poached them, muttering something about a sniper picking off his men at a junction. It didn’t matter anyway, Tommy thought… they were miles off their landing zone

It was only a 200 metre jog down to the junction but when they got there it was deadly silent, the silhouettes of a whole platoon were just about visible in the ditches running next to the road. Some moved, most didn’t.

Before they could head back to the main group, a radio sparked to life, making Jock jump out of his skin in the eerie darkness. Before they knew it they were jogging over a field, following a panting paratrooper as he led them to a sniper pinning down his section.

Jock was counting the paces all night, he reckoned they had ran about 10 miles over all, and they never saw or heard the sniper. They always turned up about 5 minutes late, and all the stories were the same… it was the same sniper… and he was going like the clappers.

The latest case happened around day break, some how they had strayed so far west that it was now American Paratroopers waving and shouting. This was getting silly…

“Hes long gone by now,” muttered Tommy.

“Aye…”

The Yank Sergeant who waved them down couldn’t be any older then about 24 was pail faced, he wore 101st patches, although that didn’t mean anything anymore… He was just a kid, lost and confused… and now missing a squad.

The rest of the squad was arrayed ever closer to cover, he managed to pick them all off before they reached any cover at all.

Tommy spat out the grass he was chewing, “Sargn’t, I suggest you he back to your platoon…” he then turned to Jock, “You think Hans is going west?”

“Aye, looks like hees got a taste’y for the Yanks,” smiled Jock.

“Right lets getting going,” said Tommy, putting the rifle back into his shoulder and moving down the road.

K, so what now for my men?

Do I start moving on Carentan? (Ike and Monty's orders)

Or do I just sit and wait for the Panzers (which historically happened at Hill 30 after the Americans took Carentan)?

I could just leave the Carentan assault to Brink and his men, along with finding those other gliders, I'm fairly partial towards the M3A1 over the M1A1 SMG (reliability issue, the M1A1 was more complex and rare a weapon by 1944 battles, [and it is possable to get a 1 round burst off at full auto if it cycles slower than 400 rpm and one gets rather good at it, both in the case of the M-3 and the M-1918A2 on "slow auto"]).

Oh well, I'll be gone for a week son and that should be enough time for Antigr's tanks to move.

The reply on the radio came back after a short delay.

Due to their location they are to take Carentan as soon as possable, thus clearing the final causway for UTAH beech and to serve as a hub for future operations. Du Mont was to be their rally point, and by now many other airlanded troops would have made it to Du Mont only to find it already captured.

The orders where to move out.

The troops groaned:

"After 3 days, and 3 nights of hard fightin, you shall be relieved!"
(One of the men of 327th)

"It's been 4 days and all we've seen are a pair of Brit tanks, so cool it with quoteing our CO! You people aren't even jump qualified!"
(One of the men of 506th PIR)

"And yet we all get paid the same"
(all 327th GIR within earshot)

OOC: endnotes:
Glider and Paratroops where paid the same, even though both types scorned each other believing themselves supirior to the other, the 327th got into many brawls on this particular topic.

This will be my last post on this thread until next sunday (August 6th).

Brink's turn... I set the stage for the next fight already.
Carentan, and later Hill 30. (If the RP outlives that we might as well pack up and head back to Britain and prepare for Market Garden afterwards)

Reffer to the map I provided on OOC thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11429454&postcount=396) for locations of gliders and Carentan (where all the roads coonverge in the south).

The Panzers rolled to a small hill overlooking the Villa. They stopped in a column, and a head pops up above the turret of the lead tank, looks through some binoculars, and drops back down into the turret. Over the inter-tank radios, the sounds of Germans speaking of American swine at the villa can be heard. Finally, they send out a call for any nearby Germans to meet up, under command of the SS Panzer Platoons of the Reich.

The tanks are sherman FIREFLIES-used only by the british. The british converted them to use a 17 pdr (76.2mm) Gun-this was just possible by adapting the gun for side-hand loading and adding a turret bustle.

The british used the original sherman a lot anyway.

Reffering to Greman units in OOC:

The'd most likely get orders to hold Carentan at all costs soon, since they would be more succesful if they did (Tanks can be easily ambushed n the french hedgegrows, and therefore moving tanks w/o heavy infantry support [for recon over the hedge] is highly frowned upon).

First German responders at Carentan were of 6th German Parachute Division, directly in Carentan. An Artillery battery (155 mm) had the place 'zeroed'.

Hill 30 had the German tanks and Panzergrenadiers in the Carentan battle, and came shortly after the Americans took Carentan. Or they could Charge their tanks and drive for the sea like that one raid did.

Yes, I know the Firefly was Brit, but the general lines from a distance of about 1 mile was about the same until one saw the massive barrel.

IC: Finding a few more men of 327th GIR and draggin out a few 502nd and 506th PIRs.

They stopped off at St. Marie-Du-Mont, and checked their rosters, many of the AT unit of the 327th GIR finally arrived with their 7 jeeps to drag 9 57 mm AT guns. he PIRs also finally started showing up in sufficient forces to do away with the Ad Hoc nature of their units, it was decided thatthe PIRs should have some directly attached organic AT units of the 327th with them.

As such, Yoder's squad, a jeep, a 57 mm gun and their crews became a permement attachment to the 506th PIR. (add 6 to Yoder's squad and +? to Brink's)

A Pair of british tanks and 3 tank destroyers (Achilies) would be sent with the rest of the 327th to attack from the American left flank (German right (http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/utah/maps/Map17.jpg)). (Add 3 Achillies TDs to Antigr's men)

Endnote: Col Harper's tanks, under the commands of Gen. Omar Bradley, will most likely make an apearance late in the battle, and be sure to use that M9A1 Pvt Richards has! (Map to clear things up, Antigr's TDs would be part of 2nd Armored (http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/utah/maps/Map19.jpg))

Ste. Marie Du Mont - Carentan

The lucky 13 parted ways after arriving back in Ste. Marie Du Mont which
now resembled that of an allied fortress. Men, armor, and material moved to and fro as the town became a rallying point for the 101st. Elements of the 327th Glider Regiment arrived sporadically bringing with them jeeps and small but effective AT weapons. Whether or not the AT weapons would actually aid them in a fight against Tiger’s or Panther’s was shaky but nevertheless gave the troops a sense defense and thus improved moral which was actually quite high despite heavy fighting. The fighting was intense to say the least which left pockets of resistance scatter about all of Normandy and the drop’s success in serious doubt. Regardless orders now started to flow into the town like a tidal wave and nothing was a surprise. They were to take a city which held significantly more importance than Du Mont; in fact the entire operation could be arguably hanging on the outcome. That city linked the American beaches of Utah and Omaha, that city was Carentan.

Now just the lucky 11 Ern’s squad got in what little rest they could muster but with all the movement it was hard to come by not to mention their nerves had the better of them. The 4 men of whom they rode in with had departed with reinforcements which included an AT weapon. The good byes were quick but were soon to be short lived as they both had the same orders; take Carentan. Two jeeps were commandeered to make the journey which provided a luxury over most troops. One of which would be towing their very own AT SP gun. The other a small wagon they found which would allow them to carry everyone although quite tight. Everyone reloaded and retrieved friendly weapons once again after having to use some German made weaponry. The plan was to link up with other elements of their regiment and wait for the order to engage. Ike was putting a lot of force into this advance as to close the gap now forming in his lines and once done armor could easily link up thus spelling bad news for the Germans who obviously wanted the city too.

With that being said the men had better be acquainted as it seemed they’d be spending a lot of time together. The leader of the 5 man unit was Corporal Milo Ronald of Bulgarian descent. The jeep driver, although trained as much as everyone else, was Private Glen Duncan. Duncan, an Irish immigrant, was the youngest of the lot at age 18. Both of the two were wielding Garands. The two gunners included Irish descendant Casey Thane and native New Yorker Julian Carver. Finally working ammunition and maintenance was Robert Warwick. Among the three there included a Carbine, Garand, and M1A1 SMG. Ronald and Ern, both of Eastern European backgrounds instantly hit it off and from the time being they would be rather inseparable.

With that in mind the squad of 16 set off across the Normandy countryside toward Carentan. They took a rather round about way to avoid any major conflicts taking a much safer route traveling through allied controlled territory for most of the way. For the most part they stayed attached to their jeeps but on occasion when the situation called for it they would embark on foot as to avoid ambush. Although their pace was quick it would still be about a day before they arrived their making their ETA D + 3.

Or do we just chalk the rest to history?

And yes Antigr, 5 TDs took part in the early part of the Carentan battle, so I thought I'd give you 3 more (thouhh it really was somethng like 1 M-24 Chaffees ands 2 M-18 Hellcats, and 2 M-36A2 Wolverines on Sherman Chassis [90 mm M-36 turret on M-4 sherman tank hull, with oddly similar perfomance to the Firefly])

And the 6th Fallsjimer already holds Carenan (Allied Intel said a reserve Panzergrenadier unit)

the M-36 90mm GMC series was known as the SLUGGER,not WOLVERINE.
the wolverine was a british field modification of the M10 GMC by changing the 76mm gun to the 17 pdr gun

I thought the Wolverine was the M-10 TD, mounting the 76 mm gun on an open turret, and was not aware of any name change when the same hull was used and a new turret mounting a 90 mm gun was fitted and given the designation M-36A1.

To further complicate matters, the Americans started simply making M-36 turrets and mounting them on existing (and almost completely unmodified) M-10 GMCs and M-4 Shermans, under the designations M-36B2 and M-36B1 respectively.

And then, as you mentioned, the British did mount their 17 pounders on the M-10 with some success, if for any other reason than lack of readily available gun mounts in British service.

The M-10, also for lack of available 76 mm guns, mounted the standard american 3" gun in an open turret as a sub-variant of the M-10.

Edit: Wikied it, the standard 3" GMC M-10 is the Wolverine while the M-36 was the Jackson or Slugger.

The M-10 /w/ 17 pdr was the Achilies, not to be confused with the Archer TD.

Ok.i'll explain.

76mm GMC = M10 (not wolverine!)
M10 with 17 pdr (76.2mm) = Wolverine
90mm GMC = M36 Slugger (is it called jackson as well?)

On to different matters.

the archer was crap.it had to turn 180 degreess to face an enemy in front of it,because it's gun pointed to the rear

Wikpedia disagrees with you...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M10_Wolverine

The 3in Gun Motor Carriage M10, was a US tank destroyer of World War II. US troops also called them "TDs" (a nickname for any tank destroyer), and Wolverine, a name adapted from the official designation given by the British to their lend lease 3in GMC M10s.

17pdr SP. Achilles - 3in GMC M10 equipped with a 17 pounder Mk V gun as used on the Sherman Firefly and British tanks. They can be identified by the muzzle brake at the end of the barrel and a counterweight bolted a little way back
