The Invasion of Arcadeos(Closed, UII)

"Noble Consuls," the Pontifex Maximus spoke up, bringing forth an issue of his own, "I wish to bring to your attention a matter of some urgency. For too long has the nation of Arcadeos been allowed to fester. Their foul culture is a travesty to our way of life, and something must be done about it! How can we claim to be the light of the universe when we do not act to dispell the darkness? Therefore, I put forth a motion to the Consuls Hallard and Iirich to sanction a declaration of war and the mobolisation of Republican forces to pacify these barbarians."

"And I suppose it will be you, Julian, who leads our legions into battle?" replied Hallard as he stood from his bench. "You who are always so quick to battle."

The Emperor looked at his superior, "Have I ever done wrong to the Republic? Have I ever undertaken a war that I couldn't win? Or that would be unbenificial to our people?"

The Mandalorian Iirich stood, "Pontifex, your reputation is well known, and we, the war-like Mandalorians acknowledge you as a great warrior. I endorse your request for troops, but ask how many you will need in addition to your own legion?"

"Just one extra legion, Consul. I expect these foes to be easily subdued. Hallard, I have one consul onboard, do I have the go-ahead to levy troops and lead our glorious troops into battle once again? We must act like Republicans in this matter and destroy these disgusting people!"

Hallard let out a sigh, "I know you get heated up, Julian, but I know when you say destroy them you mean subjugate them, imposing our ways of life on them. We Gargantuans are a peaceful people, but since the destruction of our former home we have learned the need for military action. Therefore, by the Senate and People of the Republic, you are hereby authorised the use of one Republican legion with which to invade the Arcadeos."

To: The Dominion of Arcadeos

As of this moment on, the Republic hereby declares dominance over your faction. Republican forces shall arrive within the week to install law and order, and to ensure that tribute is paid.

Ralpmet surged to his feet and threw his crystal paperweight at the wall, where it shattered. "Tribute!" he raged, "Do they think that we will honestly just let them waltz on in here and pay them to rule us?! To hell with that!" He rounded on his long-time friends, Iorek Byrnison and Alexander Lemmor. Iorek was an admiral, he was the head of the entire navy and personally commanded the First Fleet, the largest in the Dominion. Alexander C. Lemmor was the Defense Minister. "My friends, I am moving us to full alert status. All leaves are to be canceled, any on leave are to be recalled. Call in the reservists and step up military production. We need to start recruitment as well. I doubt many will answer at first, but the closer the enemy comes to the homeworld, the more will volunteer."

Later that day, recruitment posters began to pop up throughout the Dominion.

The planets of the Dominion sat like jewels in the void, ready to be claimed. The massive vessels of the armada slid gracefully through the black inkyness towards them. The Defiance, the behemoth Imperial class battle cruiser that was the flagship of the Emperor, held its position in the center of the battlefleet of 158 star ships, all menacingly moving towards the capitol planet of the Arcadeos.

"Emperor," the hard voice of Sallustius pierced the silence of the room, "We're coming up on the system. No sign of resistance yet, but I'd suggest ordering the ships into battle formation and raising the surrounding shields."

"If we look more impossing and ready to fight it may sway these people to accept our rule more easily." Caesarius agreed.

Kellerman barely looked up from his work. Even on campaign, when weighed down by the task of managing the army, he took the time to review taxation forms and everything else needed to run the Empire. "Fine, fine," he said uninterested, "Standard formation, raise shields. Have the men prepare to move to the planets as well to install order."

Aboard the intelligence/reconaissance ship, Ithric the bridge was in chaos. "Engines, all stop. We'll just drift and pull in what data we can." The officer was glad for his ships relatively small sensor profile. Lacking weapons and escorts, he had just been caught with his pants down, as it were.

"Sir" said a sensor tech, "I'm counting roughly 160 ships of varying classes. They appaer to be moving at a steady speed without changing course and..." his voice trailed off. "Sir, they just raised they're shields!"

"That clinches it." said the officer. "Send this data back to command. Engines, get us the hell out of here." As the ship turned and began to accelerate, the officer punched up system data. The closest system to the enemy was the largest in the Dominion: Phospha, with eight worlds. Phospha was flanked by two defense stations: Sucra and Menth, but the forces they could add would be negligable at best. The third fleet was at Phospha, but they were hopelessly out-classed.

The Supreme Council has begun to get busy first a simple exploration mission and now what appears to be nothing more then a invasion of a empire. "why must these people try and expand there territory dont they have enough?"
"we should send a force to show them that a conquering a sovereign nation is not tolerated"
"but we would need a large combat force to show we mean business"
"Then we will send the 12th and 18th mobile fleets along with the 32nd and 33rd mobile legions"
"thats a little extreme but it will do"

OOC: does this make sense?

Just outside the Phospha system:

The Third Fleet hung in space like a great gray cloud. At just over fourty ships, it was the smallest fleet in the navy. As the Ithric rejoined them, the admiral hoped against hope that reinforcements would come. The First and Fifth fleets were supposed to arrive soon, but he feared the enemy would get there first. He had also been promised snubfighters from the home system as well, yet they had also not arrived.

Blue bubbles allowing much transparency formed around each of the Taledonian vessels, with the shielding appropriate to each Republican culture also engaging. The bubbles dissappeared after assuring they were working, and looked as if they weren't there. A similar bubble, but much larger and encompassing the entire fleet, appeared and then dissappeared like the other ones. The shield generator ships were placed deep within the fleet for protection, and it would be difficult to get at them, much less get through the shield they set up. The armada approached the capitol planet and then stopped, long range weapons locking on to the amassing defenders.

Power down your vessels and prepare for boarding. Failure to comply will be seen as rebellion and will be crushed.

The two large fleets came out of hyperspace on the far side of the planet and sat there waiting. They sent a message to the Arcadeo government, "This is Admiral Lewis Halberton of ZAFT's 12th and 18th mobile fleets we are here to help if you need assistance"

(OOC: From my point of view, it's your nations capitol. But my people have never met you before, thus know almost nothing about you. We're in the Phospha system, but believe it is your home system, and the systems capitol is where we are currently holding position.)

IC:

"They question our authority?!" Julian roared as he paced around the bridge. "What right do they have to sovereignty?! They are nothing unless I say otherwise!"

"But Julian" Caesarius protested, "Of course they will dispute it, would we not do similar? But I don't believe that is what we should be concerned with. As of now we have but a small battle fleet. We are against the entire nation here, and those new guys who entered the system; intercepted transmissions indicate that they're here to help the rebels."

Julian grinned at Sallustius, who stood stock still at attention with his usual unemotional face. "It's nothing to worry about, old friend. After all these years you still doubt my abilities. No general in his right mind would hope to conquer someone with a force this size, but it was the most I could marshal in such short time. I started two more legions before we left, they should arrive within the next few days."

"And what shall we do while we wait, Emperor?" questioned Sallustius.

Julian turned and began walking along the catwalk towards the exit, ignoring all the salutes the men gave him, "Take the fleet to the most highly populated planet in the system other than the capitol. Stand down the troops, they won't be needed here. Tell our Covenant forces that they can have their fun and glass the planet. They really are quite good at it."

Caesarius was taken aback at the harshness penalty his friend had just ordered and frowned as Kellerman exited. "Sometimes I wonder why I go along with a man who kills millions simply to make an example."

Sallutius began to walk away towards the exit also, "It may be terrible, but that is war. After this, the people should be less in the mood of fighting. You know him, he'll call a meeting of all the planetary leaders after the people of the planet are eradicated. They should fall into line and accept Republican rule."

OOC: Alright, just for reference there are eight worlds in the Phospha system. These are some of the largest population centers in the Dominion. Another TG for you, Spit Break.

IC:
"Sir! The enemy appears to be moving towards one of the planets!" came a worried cry from the sensor station. The admiral looked up, eyes wide in surprise and fear. He couldn't possibly win with the forces under his command and he didn't know how much the ZAFT forces would tip the scales. He had been promised reinforcements but they hadn't arrived either. He clenched his hands till the knuckles were white and raged. I wasn't given the manpower necessary to carry out this task! But there was a saying in Arcadeos, a saying from before they had unified the homeworld: Death is but a feather, duty a mountain that must be carried. That probably wasn't the original saying of course, but it was close enough. The Dominion had lived by it so long it was a part of their culture. It would be this cultural peculiarity which would doom him and his men.

"Move the fleet to intercept! Launch all snubfighters, raise shields and power up the weapons! We were ordered to hold Phospha and we will hold Phospha! Signal ZAFT, tell them we can't wait on a message from command. They may engage at will." The fleet surged forward on an intercept course, a gray metal cloud about to storm with another, thicker cloud. Light began to lance out from the fleet as ships moved into maximum weapons range. An inverse proportion, the volume of fire increased as the distance decreased, and the snubfighters rapidly leaving the fleet behind. Leading the way were the Bladehawk fighters, following were the Dragoon bombers escorted by the Thumper fighter-bombers.

The message was recived and a response was sent, "roger that we will send are ground forces down just incase are space forces fail" after that transports went down to the planet taking the 32nd and 33rd mobile legions to the surface to set up defensive positions. The 12th and 18th Mobile fleets moved to the other side of the planet. They had 4 Black Hammer class dreadnoughts along with man battleships, destroyers, frigates, cruisers and corevettes. "Condition red deploy the fleet activate all batteries and deploy mobile suits and fighters" The captain ordered.
"Roger, CONDITION RED ISSUED! ONDITION RED ISSUED! Pilots to your units!" was the call from CIC.
"alrighty lets win us a war" the captain said.

The armada formed up, and turned to face the incoming foe. The energy weapons of the Taledonian vessels lashed out, energy cannons, turbo lasers, energy torpedoes; and from the rest of the mixed warships of the Republic spewed the equally deadly weaponry of their peoples designs. The majority of the enemy fire was being absorbed by the space shield, the great bubble that surrounded the entire fleet, but it was losing power quickly.

Out the back, the Covenant vessels slid away, leaving the protection of the sheild and continueing towards the planet. Their graceful movement brought them quickly into orbit around the chosen planet, and their great weapons of destruction prepared to rain super-heated plasma onto the surface, a particularly destructive thing they called glassing. The fleet only needed to keep the defenders from them for a few more minutes, and then the weapons would be fully charged and ready to fire.
Arcadeos
14-07-2006, 02:57
Planetary defense weapons shot columns of destructive light up at the orbiting ships. They knew the fleet could not stop the impending bombardment from space. The fleet, meanwhile, changed tactics. Roughly a third of the ships focused their fire on one section of the shield, seeking to make a hole for the snubfighters. Immense amounts of energy was being flung at the shield in a frantic effort to bring it down; they had effectively lost one world and knew it. They had to wreak as much havoc as possible on the enemy fleet. There were seven more worlds in this system alone, and reinforcements still had not arrived.

OOC: Spit Break, you have another tg.

In a dazzling display of light, immense beams shot from the bottoms of the Covenant vessels, hundreds at a time, hurdling down towards the planet, covering every inch of it with plasma, making it devoid of life. Meanwhile, the shield was still holding, but would be down soon. No matter, the fleet had accomplished what it had set out to do, and while it continued its deadly counter assault on the enemy, a transmission was sent.

One of the most populated planets of your nation, reduced to rubble. You have no chance to survive, cease your attacks and prepare to be boarded. The ZAFT fleet deployed mobile reflecter shields and put them in place to protect the planet. Then the ZAFT fleet closed in and the prepared to move into fireing range

But the so called "Republic" had just made a collosal miscalculation. The wholesale slaughter of an entire planet as punishment for a nonexistant rebellion showed how low they were willing to stoop, and would unite the oft-squabbling factions within the Dominion. All this served to do was to set the focus of the entire military on this conflict. A distant crusade could be dealt with later, it was ignored in favor of what was expected to be a mild border skirmish.

As messages were sent to the home world, the other planets were evacuating. At least, those who could leave were trying to. It would be but a fraction of a percent, there were just too many who were unable to leave. And the fleet was still dumping huge amounts of destructive energy into the shield.
Taledonia
16-07-2006, 00:54
"So the people still refuse." The Emperor took a bite out of the apple in his hand. "And now all the differing factions have come together as one. No matter, I will subdue them yet."

Sallutius dismissed the young soldier who had brought the news and turned to Kellerman. "What will we do now, Emperor?"

Standing, Julian made his way to the window of the room, and peared out at the scorched planet that hung below the fleet. "The reinforcing legions should arrive today sometime, so until then we will wait. Keep the fleet in battle array, the enemy fleet should rout soon, and if they don't they will be destroyed in a pincer when the others arrive."

As the Arcadeos ships continued to pound the space shield, it suddenly became totally visible and then disappeared once more, signalling that it had fell. Now it would be the individual shielding of each vessel that would protect them and the men they held. But that was no matter, the enemy had taken a beating and was still the underdog.

Like a swarm of locusts, millions of fighters and bombers emerged from the starships and surged towards the enemy, interspercing with their small craft and war vessels and engaging with ferocity and courage, lighting up the stars even more with the addition of their weeapons fire. The uncatchable TF-20 "Stingers" jumping everywhere, dealing out damage to everything that they saw. The mighty Einhanders, small craft with the ability to carry weapons of starship caliber in their "arm", which could also pick up blown off weapons and manipulate them to be used. The brave Zarithian pilots, renown for their abilities, made continual raids into heavy areas of enemy ships. The courages Covenant, uncaring for personal safety, flew their larger vessels in for runs on the hulls and shields of the war cruisers. And the Mandalorian craft, sturdy, fast and powerful, added to the fray their uniue touch of destruction.

Things were not going well for the Dominion. The admiral was long since dead, his ship a crisped hulk drifting through the void. The initial celebration at the shields dropping had gone as soonas they realized that just meant it had become a conventional engagement. The snubfighters were badly outnumbered, and even though most had several kills before they themselves succumbed, they could not win by attrition. It was at this point that two things happened. First, the Fourth Fleet appeared on the far edge of the system. The second was that the promised snubfighters, a veritable armada, from home arrived in the middle of the dogfight.

After initial losses while the pilots recovered from the shock of reverting in the middle of a warzone, they joined the furball. The Corsairs tore into the enemy with an amazing ferocity, and the Archer IIs made runs on the capital ships. As this was happening, the Fourth Fleet was orienting itself in preperation for the Dominion's favorite fleet manuever, a move where being off by even meters could spell the death of thousands of brave men from Arcadeos. Finished positioning, the fleet went to supralight speeds again.

OOC: If it's alright with you, Taledonia, I want to make one more post before your reinforcement fleets arrive. Something to add to the overwhelming chaos and pressure my people are feeling.

(OOC: No problems with that.)

IC:

The fleet simply continued to engage, with the exception of one new order given. The warp countermeasures were engaged on the starships, and the fleet dissappeared, leaving the small craft to their skirmish. A few seconds passed before the fleet once again re-appeared behind the Dominions engaging fleet.
Arcadeos
16-07-2006, 02:32
Suddenly the enemy was behind them! As the ships turned to meet them again, the Fourth Fleet reverted to realspace...right smack dab in the middle of the Republic's fleet. The Fourth's admiral could only stare as reverting ships slammed into enemy hulls before they could react. He had decided at the last minute not to use an insane manuever that was favored by the First for fear of results similar to this. He had been involved for less than a minute and had already lost a fifth of his command because the enemy had done the unexpected. "Launch all snuhfighters, fire at will." Because of this fiasco, the combined forces of the remaining Third and Fourth were still outnumbered. The Archer IIs began to make their way to the new engagement zone, flying in an arcing path to avoid the furball below them.

OOC: Just to avoid confusion, I refer to large-scale dogfights like this as furballs.

Yay for chaos! You did something really unexpected, so I returned the favor. I said they ships connected hull to hull because I don't think shields would provide much protection against a projectile that size. If yours do, then just mention them exploding on your shields in your post.

The vessels of Taledonian make were safe, the appearing vessels simply bouncing off the shields, but those that wore shields like skin took some damage. The admiral was impressed and somewhat awed by the sheer strength of the enemy's shields. Any ship capable of shrugging off collisions was impressive. He could only watch helplessly as the sole dreadnought of his fleet crumpled up like an empty beer can against an enemy ship. He didn't think he could win a fleet-scale battle, but at least the snubfighters were doing better. He gave orders to divert the bombers and fighter-bombers towards certain enemy ships.
