The end of the world, and the dawn of a new age...(intro)

Battlestar Helios
09-07-2006, 05:48
OOC: This new nation is based on the Battlestar Galactica series, the story is that Battlestar Group 55, under the lead of the Battlestar Helios was providing overwatch for the construction of a new major trade station between Gemenon and Virgon when the cylons struck, they managed to make an escape with the construction fleet and after losing the Battlestar Jason and several escort ships they discerned the method by which the cylons were infiltrating their systems, and corrected the problem. They rescued some wayward civilian ships and made their way into the unknown, travelling for months in search of a new world...

For population purposes, the nation has 65,342 people. The military consists of one battlestar, two escort carriers, two cruises, three heavy destroyers, two missile destroyers, five frigates, six corvettes and a number of auxillaries. Civilian ships consist mostly of freighters, a few passenger liners, a private luxury yacht, some mining, refinery, foundry, and construction ships.

IC:

"Hey mousetrap, you see anything on your screens?" the raptor's electronics officer asked.

"Naw man, I don't got squat, this place is nothing but desolate rock and gas giants, if you're done then we got enough fuel for another system then we had back home," Mousetrap replied.

"Awesome, another system, another empty space of nothingness...not even a scrap of water or tyllium. We keep this up, and we'll be dead before the cylons even find us," the ECO muttered, while spinning up the FTL drive.

"You'd rather the cylons find us first?" mousetrap asked as he punched in the coordinates for the next jump. Another star system about 4 light years away with six planets.

"At least we can die fighting that..." the ECO was midsentence when the pilot hit the FTL and the raptor disappeared in a flash of light.

An instant later the raptor reappeared in the next system with the ECO doubling over in sickness from the jump while the pilot looked back with a grin.

"You could have warned me you son of a...water!" the ECO called out as his screen blinked with a warning sign stating a water source had been discovered.

Mousetrap immediately adjusted his instruments, sweeping over the world they had jumped in near and turning the nose of their craft towards it.

As the small craft spun around, the world came into view of the crew members and they both froze as they saw the sight that beheld them. Oceans, clouds, green land...a habitable world.

The two pilots, without so much as making a sounds immediately scrambled over their screens calling sensor information as it scrolled across.

"Nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere!"
"CO2 levels consistent for heavy vegetation!"
"No signs of civilization so far, but we need to check it our more closely"
"No pollutants detected!"
"Temperature estimates look temperate!"
"I'm reading tyllium on one of the moons!"

The two pilots, with enough information to confirm a habitable planet, turned their craft around and made another jump to the fleet, and the waiting command ship the Helious.

*Newly discovered world*

12 hours had passed since the small colonial ship had disappeared in a flash of light when a fleet of over a hundred vessels appeared in a series of almost simultaneous flashses. The fleet moved into orbit around the blue green ball, the only habitable world in the system.

All across the fleet the wireless came alive as the fleet's commander, Admiral Forrester, commander of the Helios and BSG 55 made an address,

"Men and women of the fleet, it has been three long months since we lost our friends, our families, our homes, our very civilization to the fires of a nuclear holocaust. Three long months of sacrifice and bloodshed. Three long months of repentance and prayer. And so it seems our punishment is at an end, for the gods have delivered unto us a new home on which to rebuild our civilization. A new civilization free from the folly and mistakes made before, free from the arrogance and greed that allowed us to play the role of the gods and try to create as we did with the cylons, free from the slack and corruption of the old regime that allowed the cylons to destroy us. Our prayers have been answered, for before us lies our new world, our new home, a world that we shall call New Kobol, in honour of the gods that have delivered us, and as it shall be the birthplace of the new mankind. A strong, disciplined, and unified mankind that shall build anew in accordance with the wishes of the lords of kobol, that shall rebuild our great nation, and that will one day serve as the instrument of the gods' revenge against the abomination that has destroyed our people. So say we all."

All across the CIC, and the military vessels the men and women of the colonial fleet all mouted 'So say we all' in response, as did many of the civilians, though others had different ideas for man's new civilization.

The mining and foundry ships went to work, raptors and shuttles launched from across the fleet, filled with deckhands, civilian experts, a doctor, and marines as they started their survey. Meanwhile, the fleet of ships in orbit swept the surface of the world, searching for the most ideal location on which to build their new nation.
