The Terra Directorate was established as a form of government when the planet known to the settlers as Terra was colonized. The settlers that colonized the new planet and settled there for a new life were a mix of European nationalities the majority being German, Greek, British and French that originated from Earth in the Sol system. The colonization of Terra was hard due to the lack of equipment to mine the planet’s resources. But the settlers were lucky that Terra’s environment was very similar to Earth. Actually its geographical surface was exactly like Earth’s. Animals and plants looked very different from the ones of Earth but soon farmers discovered that some animals can be tamed for the same uses as pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, and other domestic animals were used for.
The first city of Terra was Athena and then Parisia, Londinium and Berlina emerged as the population rapidly grew and as new lands and new farming techniques were discovered. Technology advanced at a rapid pace due to some of the most brilliant scientists, engineers and mathematicians were among the settlers from Earth. The first National Library was built in Athena that included all of Earth’s knowledge and the new knowledge that the settlers acquired. During the early part of prosperity the government was a basic form of open democracy similar to the old ancients of Athens back on Earth. The Terrans, that’s what they now call themselves, realized that this government did not meet all there needs. Political parties were formed and were hard at work at creating a new form of government. The Directorate was born. The Directorate was made up of nine Directors that handle the affairs of the planet and have executive powers over the General Assembly of Terra. Each Director had a specific department to manage like Education, Economy, Defence, Development, Welfare, Health, Administration and Law & Order. Directors were democratically elected for four years by the people just like the General Assembly is.
With the Directorate, Terra prospered even more into a new technological advanced era. The urbanization and industrialization caused more capital to be available for investment. Cities grew at a very fast rate. When the cities of Athena, Londinium, Parisia and Berlina could not longer support the current rapidly expanding population, the Directorate put large amount of funding to create new cities across the planet. During exploration and expansionism an alien species was discovered living on the planet also. The Directorate referred to them as the Ta’Lak race. Both races spoke different languages and had no communication between each other. The Ta’Lak was an aggressive race and it did not take long for war to break out. The Directorate was never ready for war due to the long self-imposed isolation and the idea of peace was on its agenda. The town of Constantinopolia was massacred by the alien race. All 50,000 settlers were killed, skinned and there skulls piled up as a mountain. The Directorate was in good fortune that there was a corporation known as Hydra Dynamics that was experimenting with guns that were able to shoot a highly concentrated laser beam. A poorly trained militia made up of volunteers was made in Athene to counter the threat. They were equipped with prototypes which jammed or failed to work properly many times. They lost all of the battles but were still able to keep the Ta’Laks busy and at bay. Help was sent to Athene from the other cities and Hydra Dynamics opened up more factories to mass produce blasters. After five months of fighting a losing battle the Directorate finally receive a fully functional, reliable blaster rifle from Hydra Dynamics. Hydra Dynamics also manufacture armours to protect the militias from the alien lasers. They were not effective but it prevented the aliens o give a killing blow in one shot. This gave an advantage over the alien race due to there lack of armour and slightly less powerful lasers. The war continued to rage for another five years. During that time many other defence corporations emerged creating armoured fighting vehicles, better armour and blaster rifles, and aerial fighters that were not capable of leaving Terra’s atmosphere. The Directorate become more technologically advanced and exterminated the Ta’Lak race. The Ta’Lak’s advantage of more manpower did not help.
The Great Ta’Lak War had a major impact on the Directorate and its foreign policies from that day forth. A military was established and received huge amount of funding. For five years it consumed 30% of the Directorate budget. They needed the money to establish an all-volunteered, professional modern military. Hydra Dynamics is just one of the many other defence corporations that profited from this. For the first time the defence industry was recognized as a very profitable area to invest in. The Directorate Terrain Forces received new blaster rifles, armour, light and fast vehicles and heavy armoured fighting vehicles. To name a few there were huge armoured tanks equipped with powerful laser cannons. Turbo laser artillery was created that had a very long range with a huge blast radius. The Directorate Navy was also established and became the jewel of the Directorate military. Enormous capital ships were created that carried numerous squadrons of starfighters. Capital ships were created that were able for massive planetary bombardment. They were certainly expensive and few were created.
The people of Terra led comfortable, luxurious and peaceful lifestyles. Because of wondrous medical breakthroughs people lived a very long and healthy. The oldest Terran there ever was died at the age of 130. Terra population eventually reached the 5 billion mark and has been growing at the same speed. Terra became too big for the General Assembly and the Directorate to handle affairs on a daily basis which is why “nomi” were set up. Four nomi were established, the Nomo of Hellenica, Britannia, Francia, and Germania. Each Nomo had its on Nomos Assembly which was elected by the people. The General Assembly was then made up equally by Nomo Assemblymen. The Directorates were still directly elected by the people.
After the internal affairs were under control the Directorate set out onto a new mission to map out unexplored sectors and galaxies. It was also trying to get out of self-imposed isolation and to come in contact with other human and alien races. Many cities built massive spaceports for the increased trading traffic that will soon arrive through find new races. Numerous naval fleets were sent out to seek contact and explore the universe. Diplomats that mastered the art of trying to communicate with unknown, foreign species were onboard the ships to aid the commanders in communication and diplomatic talks.
