MEDIUM ÆVUM - Middle Age RP OOC and Interest

MEDIUM ÆVUM
The Middle Age

This is a new idea that I've just gotten, after looking for a good RP that goes throughout world history with interesting twists. Right now, my post meter isn't very high, considering that my last nation was deleted [mostly because I forgot about it, but I should have known better than that :(] Anyway, I'll be opening this up to people for at most a week, before I decide whether this thing is worthwhile. If people are really interested in this idea, then I will open the RP earlier.

Some rules of conduct:

1. RP reasonably - no one likes bad rping, especially the veterans of yore. So please make a good effort to make things realistic, especially for an age that is so long ago. That's one of the things that I think makes these kinds of RPs exciting, so when someone becomes ballistic and starts to conquer the world [granted it will happen, but in a way that makes the world seem so small], it just spoils the game. So let's say this - if it spoils the RP, it's not reasonable.

2. Listen to the Moderations - I know that I'm not going to be the only uber-crunch for this period, so I'll probably recruit helpers to moderate the threads [albeit, they won't be called "mods", since that ticks the real mods].

3. No godmoding - this goes in hand with RPing reasonably, but this is ultimately one of my biggest pet peeves on NS. If you don't know what godmoding is, this is the wrong place for you.

4. Be constructive - this also goes in hand with RPing reasonably, but it also extends to OOC chatter, since I know that some people will resort to "bad" words frequently when pressed; you can read the long lines of "$%$#&*@%($#&"^*(!@#*^&#@&!&$^^#&!^@@&%&#^@!" when they see something stupid [either by others or themselves]. If it doesn't help the argument, don't say it. If it doesn't help the RP, don't post it. And no spams - I don't want real mod attention coming to this forum - I haven't seen a forum ban yet, but I've heard of them.

That's my list for now - it might grow, although I don't want to have to make it grow.

For the fun part, here's the details on the actual RP.

The RP will begin in the year 1000 CE. We will use real-world stats for the year 1000 CE to start up the game, and progress hopefully as far as we can get before the game become boring. Despite the early time, I think that we can find alot of nations to play around with - especially in Europe and Asia.

First of all, Europe is going to be hard to RP, since there are so many duchies and fiefs. The only country with the most centralized power is technically China [or Japan - depends on the historian] - even the Arabs have their problems, feuding over arguments in Islam. So, with that in mind, players will not have any centralized governments - instead, we will start off with fiefs and plots that will hopefully progress into a country of sorts by the 14th Century.

Years will progress by day until the year 1700, after which case, years will progress by week. At this rate, the year 1700 will come around in about two years and the year 2000 will come in at about 5 years. That means a lot of RPing will be done the old fashioned way - i.e. swords, arrows, and lots of rocks. Hopefully, no one will want a nuclear apocalypse in the year 1023, but I'm having my fingers crossed.

With all of that, who's interested in this?

Ive been in only one RP of this sort, taking place in 1061 I do believe, and it was for my part one of the most interesting I have ever been in. Of course it died, as with all others due to inactivity, but for the while it lasted I really enjoyed it. Id like to take a shot at the Kingdom of Norway, which I believe was a much more unified 'Kingdom' than the other Kingdoms of Europe. Of course this was due in large part to the miniscule population... but whatever. I plan on starting a 'Pagan Revolution' of sorts, as Paganism in Norway was not wiped out for near 200 years. (Christianity being dominant since ~700) Anyways, if you need some references as to my RP'ing ability, just TG me and ill see what I can do.

I can see your record, and I think it's just fine for the rp purposes. I won't guarantee that this thing starts on time, but we'll see.

Hey Kro, it's me Kaduna I played the Kievan Rus, and with the creators permission would like to do the same, also Kirisia look up E20, it might be a good idea to follow some of the ideas in order to stop this from becomming another one of the many dead Earths that haunt the II boards.

May, I please rp as the Byzantine Empire?

I will take Byzantium.

The Byzantines were a pretty unified state.

If you want Scandinavia, we could RP a Byzantine civil war and we are the two sides fighting over Constantinople, but perhaps allying against the Seljuks and other foreign threats. Like one of us could be the Anatolian Byzantines and the other the Greek Byzantines.

Alright, since for example attacking the Constantinople of that time would be awkward, it having about a million people inside of it and the sheer scale of the defenses of the city, what about I be the Emperor in Constantinople, but you be my Co-Emperor, of the Imperial family, and be commander and of the armies and Emperor of the East and be based in the rather large city of Antioch or any other city of your choosing, I basically just took your good idea and just altered it to allow me to have lands in western Asia Minor. Generally, you will be completely equal to me in rank and we both are head of the Orthodox Church, military, and land in our areas, but we do maintain unity as the same Empire and we back up each other completely economically, diplomatically, and militarily. As well, if you want to add anything just ask me because I do have a good knowledge of the Byzantine Empire.

I am tempted to just give the Byzantine Empire to the first person who posted - Scandinvans. The Byzantine Empire - as weak as it was - was not rerally subject to much division. The one unfortunate side-effect of this centralize authority was that it was nearly always losing its lands to the Turks, the Arabs, the Bulgarians, or some other power-hungry people encroaching on Constantinople.

I mean, of all the Empires that I listed with numerous duchies and states, you guys had to pick one that I didn't divide? :D I find that funny. Besides that, there are PLENTY of other states to choose from; you're not limited to Europe, because I want to rp this thing as far as I can afford to let it go, so maybe we'll have a strong African nation - albeit I doubt it because it's pretty hard to unite tribes, although Shaka Zulu came close to creating the most powerful confederation in the world, were it not for his jealous brothers who assassinated him just as he was burgeoning into a major pain for the Europeans. But besides, there's the Song Dynasty in China, which is ready for a major ass-whuppin from the Mongols in a few centuries. This is 1000CE - the rp limits are as limited as my imagination and yours (more emphasis on my imagination because there are some crazy people who will imagine a time-traveling company landing in the middle of the Amazon and starting their own "past" confederation ready to take over the world with their futuristic guns and stuff - that's out of the picture).

Sooo, anyone else?

Unless any objections arise from Scandinvans, he will be the sole ruler of the Byzantine Empire.

FYI - actual population of Constantinople at around 1000CE would have been closer to 300,000 but I agree - Constantinople had well-fournished guards and defenses. Even in 1453, Turkish artillery took several weeks before a careless mistake by some stupid gate guard let them into the city. No doubt, a civil war in Constantinople would be disastrous anyway for the Empire and it would be better to leave it centralized...

Alright then, thank you Kirisia for the judgment and I am more than will and able to rp as the sole ruler of the Byzantine Empire. As well, [NS]Kreynoria if you wish to discuss further feel free to send me a telegram.

Also, you are right about the population being about 300,000 living behind the double walls, but the reason why I maybe thought that the population of it was one million I may have been thinking of the people living in the surrounding areas outside the walls.

It is nearing one week, and only three people have signed up for this idea.

I'm tempted to say that it won't work, because it's going to take a lot more people than this to get a good rp. Unless if anyone objects, I'm going to let this one die.

Better now than three weeks into it... I was going to Cut/Paste the majority of my Internal RP from the last RP that did just that... well, damn shame, but if ya ever start it up again, TG me.

Wait, wait, wait!
Could I rp a religious group? Maybe the Knights of Malta or the Knights Templar?
