Constantinopolium

Constantinopolium

Constantinopolium is a state founded by Byzantine refugees. It is led by a King who rules from New Constantinople. The people here keep the ways of old, except for one thing.

While Byzantines are known to be Orthodox, the people here are either Byzantine Catholic or Roman Catholic (thinking on who should be majority, it goes with my nation). The people still use Greek in Masses or Liturgies, for example, the Hail Mary could be heard in Greek, or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy of St. Faustina.

In Constantinopolium, the King has absolute power but he does share it with others, the Council of the Twelve for example. The King's Throne was passed on through families till an Elective Monarchy (like the Holy Roman Empire, I suppose) was established.

The last family to rule in the Heirist Monarchy were made to be nobility. The current King is Cyril I, elected by the Council of the Twelve. The Council does not elect an Queen. The Queen at this time is Demetria I. The Throne does not pass to son or daughter, they are elected. Here is an example:

Country Y has a King who has:

Princess A (5%)
Princess B (15%)
Princess C (20%)
Prince D (20%)
Prince E (10%)
Prince F (10%)

Now, when the King dies, the Council convenes and opens a Royal Election period. Here, the Princesses and Princes would go against each other to run for the Throne. Look above at the totaling: Princess C and Prince D are tied. Another period would be held. Now look:

Prince D (40%)
Princess C (60%)

So Princess C would be the Queen, because 60 is more than 40. (This is not permanent as I am planning this stuff out).

The Church does not have any power in elections, though they may at least support a candidate (only Royals can run).
