The Prime Minister has called for the creation of a new organisation to be called the 'Sovereign League' in order to cement relations between the liberal-capitalist nations of the world. The alliance is thought to be a response to growing disastisfaction with the inactivity of the Questerian Commonwealth grouping of states and the increasingly controversial Woodstock Pact grouping increasingly been seen as a Sarzonia-centric organisation. Speaking from the Cabinet Offices in the capital, the Prime Minister declared that this was 'an historic time in the histories of the free nations of the world.'

The new grouping has been received favourably at home, with the Imperial Monarchist and Liberal Imperialist Parties welcoming what has been described as 'a thoroughly Praetonian group of nations'. Whether or not this a view that will go down well with potential applicants remains to be seen, but many see the Sovereign League as an alliance that will finally meet the needs of countries built along the Praetonian-Questerian model, rather than that of radically different states such as Doomingsland, or indeed more similar fellow democracies built along Sarzonian lines.

Announcing the new grouping, the Prime Minister said that "Perhaps for the first time in history, certainly for the first time in my lifetime, the liberal-capitalist nations of the world, especially those with a similar world outlook to the Praeto-Questerian Entente powers, have made a firm declaration to come together to make their voice truly heard in the world." His exclusion of the Woodstock Pact from this description has lead to much speculation that he is finally bowing to the wishes of his back-benchers in moving for a withdrawl from the Pact. However, the Prime Minister's press office has stated that the government "is still fully committed to the success of the Woodstock project, which we view as a complementary rather than competing grouping of states."

The Sovereign League is also set to be a more assertive alliance than those that have existed in the past. In his speech, the Prime Minister declared that "We cannot afford to remain isolationist and introvert. The Sovereign League will be a truly pro-active force working for the abolition of tyranny, and above all acting to further the interests of the member-states. Mutual defence is of no use if the blows for tyranny fall far from our native lands. We cannot afford another Inkana. We cannot afford another ViZion. We must stand together, as audacious as our enemy, or we shall surely fail."

The alliance is also expected to play a more passive role, with the Prime Minister going on to cite the current conflict in the United Kingdom of Questers as a porential arena in which the combined industrial might of a large and powerful group of rich, industrialised nations could be brought to bear to the detriment of common foes. Questers is expected to play a yek role in the alliance regardless, with the PM citing Questers as a country with which preliminary discussions had taken place, and which was out-board from the outset.

The ultimate success of the alliance remains unclear, and it could easily fall by the wayside as the Questerian Commonwealth and the Woodstock Pact have to a large extent done. However, the government claims that Questers, Skinny87, Czardas, the KLM, Space Union and Willink have already expressed interest and been invited to the conference.

"A vibrant new force for justice and liberty"
Alhoun hails Sovereign League, confirms Praeton invitation
JACKSON STIRNMAN
CZARNA- July 5, 2017

In one of its all-too-rare actions today, the Foreign Ministry released a memo to the Greater Czardaian populace yesterday. The memo confirmed reports -- assumedly previously unconfirmed -- that a Praetonian invitation to join a so-called "Sovereign League" of like-minded nations has been indeed extended to the Concordance of Czardas, among other things, such as the confirmation that strawberry kiwi is indeed Kari Alhoun's favourite flavour of jell-o and speculation on what Questarian King William IV's socks smell like.

While the Czardaian answer to the invitation is said to be confidential and "a matter of Foreign Ministry security", Foreign Minister Kari Alhoun, in a televised address to the nation scheduled conveniently around prime time last night, spoke warmly and with great favour of the other participant nations invited to join the Sovereign League -- not only Praetonia but other close nations such as Skinny87 and Space Union, and dubbed the young alliance "a vibrant new force for justice and liberty, the likes of which has not been seen for the vast portion of modern history".

Why this sudden support for an alliance of liberal-capitalist nations from Alhoun himself, a longtime supporter of economic reformism in Czardas? The answer may lie, quite simply, in pettishness. Alhoun's pointed exclusion of the Woodstock Pact, which has long since claimed to stand for the same ideals as Alhoun mentions in his speech, shows that he is still bitter over the Woodstock Pact's supreme failure to react during the five months of the War of Kregaian Aggression, which left more than five million Czardaian civilians dead but provoked little response from the international community until the holding of an unfruitful peace conference early this year.

In addition, the Woodstock Pact's direct control by Sarzonia runs counter to the Concordance's democratic ideals, especially considering that her President Michael Sarzo is an essentially unelected official who rules for life, a political plan many Czardaians believe, per a recent poll on Czardasnet (57% to 39%), to be undemocratic. There have been calls for reform,, calls for the replacement of Sarzonia at the helm of the Woodstock Pact, calls for anarchy, bird calls, and obscene calls.

Instead, Alhoun seems to have chosen the easier way out by supporting a new alliance that may prove to occupy the place once held by the Woodstock Pact on the international stage. But only time will tell whether the golden age of Sarzonian dominance will be replaced by a new era, one in which Czardas herself may someday occupy a position near the wheel. §

Jackson Stirnman is an outspoken radical, schoolteacher, drug user, convicted sex offender... basically, a typical Czardaian. His biased, opinionated weekly columns draw large amounts of discussion; his articles for the Czardas Courier draw large amounts of money. And he totally PWNS you at World of Warcraft.

Sovereign League Founded; Satpul Singh Accepts Invitation

Ayadi, Space Union - Earlier today, Praetonian officials led by the Prime Minister of Praetonia invited Space Union to a conference in Praetonia for the creation of a new alliance of like-minded liberal-capitalist nations that will work to actively fight tyranny abroad. Federate Satpul Singh announced that Space Union would accept the invitation to the conference, which will be hosted at the Uxbridge Palace in Praetonia.

Praetonian officials revealed today their new goal of establishing a new alliance in the world aimed at liberal-capitalist nations coming together for the common defense and expansion of democratic and capitalist beliefs in the world using their combined mights. Seen as a step away from the inactive Woodstock Pact, the alliance will actively seek to help nations in need across the world through finiancial, industrial, or even military aid from member nations. At the present, the conference will also be attended by Questers, Skinny, Czardas, and Willink. The Space Union government weighed the invitation and at the ended confirmed that they would be attending the conference.

A poll conducted by the Union Polling Association of the Space Union public found that 72% of the polled wanted to join the alliance and supported attending the conference at least with 25% saying they didn't want to see Space Union join this. Polling Analyst Richard Cony remarked on the sizeable minority of the public against joining the new alliance as "people that have become fed up with the inactivity of the alliances that Space Union joins. Most of the alliances merely become funding wastes without any return. Space Union has experienced this in the International Defense Allied Force (IADF) and the Woodstock Pact (WP). If this alliance proves to effective, we can see that most of these people will likely turn back to supporting the alliance."

Further news on the situation will be reported as the conference begins.

Lebanon, Willink
Willink to attend Sovereign League meeting.

At a press conference today, a representative for the Presidents inner cabinet confirmed reports that Willink had been invited to a meeting concerning the Sovereign league within Praetonia, stating that “Willink wishes to take a more assertive and important role in world politics, and a chance to improve relations with fellow-minded nations is always a luxury which we can not afford to miss.” This comes following nearly a week of speculation among political circles, as the majority of political focus has been on the current situation in Mer Des Ennuis, and the recent decision to mobilize nearly 3 million troops to help stabilize the nation.

The decision to attend came as a surprise to many, as the inner cabinet had become rather reclusive recently following several decisions surrounding major court cases that lead to widespread criticism from several close nations. A representative of the Willink Parliament is expected to attend the meeting, and discuss the terms and creation of the league with fellow nations.

Looking back, the nations past in alliance’s has been rather spotty, following the disastrous political failure of the Arabanistan-Willink war two decades ago that ruined friendly ties for nearly 15 years, and the utter failure of the CAS to carry out and meet what it was created for, and the departure of major members such as Allenea and Green Sun left the alliance wrecked, useless, and powerless on the world scene in many nations eyes.

Hopefully, the current alliance-in-forming could help the nations relations improve immediately, and hopefully lead to increase ratings for president Scharfe, whose approval rating has dropped to nearly 40 percent following missions in Whyatica, Mer Des Ennuis, and Saharistan. The “League” will also appear to distant Willink from several of its close allies, including Spizania, whose relations with Willink in the past months have been rather chilly. We will have more information as the meeting begins.

QUESTER'S FIRE GUARD IS QUESTER'S DEFENCE - Southampton burns in unprovoked attack on civilian centres.

Page 1

EARLY yesterday morning, the vile Juumanistran Air Force, in an attempt to crush morale of the Questarian people, attacked the city of Southampton, an important industrial harbour of the United Kingdom. The Juumanistran devils used such hideous and immoral weapons such as firebombs, incendaries, and it is rumoured that a biological attack in the north of Southampton caught an infants school unwarned. Air defence was valiant, but the high angle long range anti air guns and surface to air missiles of the city were overwhelmed by the bombing attack, which lasted from 12 noon to 12 midnight in the longest bombing attack of the war.

Defence from the Southampton airfield, RAF Southampton, came in the form of two squadrons worth of Questarian aircraft. Our brave pilots went up in the air did not come back down until there was no fuel left. It is expected that the government will award the VC to Airman Graham Jones after he rammed a Juumanistran bomber poised to attack St Rogers General Hospital. Losses were high, but Royal Air Force interceptors from all airbases in the country within intercept proximity were scrambled to defend the innocent people of Southampton against the devilish communist bombardment.

The attack left Southampton in ruins, and the city burned until 6 AM this morning when our courageous firefighters finally managed to subdue the flames. It is not known whether the attack will continue the next day, but dead are approximated in the area of 23,000 civilians and 6,000 civil defence workers. In a message to the people, his Glorious Imperial Majesty, King William IV, gave a message to the people of the United Kingdom, which read as follows 'People of Questaria. Today, our nation was attacked by forces most vile. A giant attack of Juumanistran aircraft attackde the city of Southampton for 12 hours straight, not caring for their targets, civilian or military. To the people that died in this vicious attack, I promise you, that I will not rest until you are avenged. We will not stand for this blatant murdering of innocents by the Communist threats. Thank you, and God Bless.'

In other news, the Sovereign League, set up by the UK and our gallant allies of Praetonia, has been announced by the Praetonians. Earlier today, a Questarian battleship, the H.M.S Magnificent, docked at Uxbridge to crowds cheering and waving both Praetonian and Questarian flags. The Foreign Minister himself, Sir David Leach, travelled onboard the battleship to a conference regarding the Sovereign League with other world powers and glorious allies such as Skinny87 and Space Union. Although we could not get hold of Sir Leach, Daily Mail representatives spoke to the Prime Minister. The PM has not made an official statement about the Sovereign League, but he did tell us that 'The League will doubtlessly play an important part in Questarian and international politics once the war is won; the government is dedicated to the idea of the Sovereign League and it what its capable of.'

However, few nations on the world stage support the United Kingdom in its battle against tyranny, and it is not expected that the wide number of Sovereign League members would support the Questarian war. However, after it is won, which it no doubt will be, a group of highly developed nations would do well to organise themselves against tyranny and oppression in the world. As such, the Sovereign League will hopefully become a more active alliance in international terms, the sort of alliance that small nations look up to; a bastion of freedom and democracy, opposed to such villany as Doomingsland, and no doubt will be feared by Communists and Dictators alike throughout the world.

Such acts as the bombing of Southampton yesterday showed that although tyranny maybe strong; villany and violence may reign supreme; freedom always stands firm and in these dark days, freedom is standing firm. It is standing firm with you and me and the countrymen of Questers. God Save the King.

Sovereign League Tempting to Diplomats and President

Silver City, The Silver Sky - Members of the Skyian Diplomatic Corps and President Kara Maddox have heeded the invitation from the Praetonia diplomats of the Sovereign League. The President had said several times unofficially that the issue was at the fore front of the Republican Senate's Summer Session, besides the recently revealed and little talked about involvement in Mer Des Ennuis to help free the citizens from the shackles of their so called 'constitutional dictatorship'.

President Kara Maddox finally issued an official statement about the Sovreign League earlier today. She said, "The Sovereign League's agenda of opposition to tyrannay and opression is much similar to ours, especially considering our resounding military sucesses in the Red Tide and Vietnamexico, both helping democratic rebels through off the yoke of despots, we also hope this will strengthen ties between The Silver Sky and Praetonia, who have had little contact since signing a bilateral alliance last year, and Skinny87."

Also Madame President unofficially spoke of the Sovereign League as a tool to use to get Willink to pull their forces out of Mer des Ennuis, and to garner more support for the Democratic Rebel cause. Silver Skyian Exo-Atmospheric Defence Force launched a overwhelming shock and awe attack against MdE's active military in support of the National Guard and Civilian rebels who want a more democratic and liberal country.

So-called Hardliner Nationalist express objections to the propossed Sovereign League, citing past alliances such as the International Defense Allied Force (IADF) and the Woodstock Pact (WP) as failures and quite possibly the direction the SL could take, and they also say that multi-national alliances are too restrictive on what courses of actions the nation's people might want to take.

However, as of now, the official government position is one of agreement that joining the Sovereign League would be in the countries best interest.

The Prime Minister leaned over in his chair. "What do you think?" The Cabinet Secretary frowned, leaned back in his chair and replied in his dull, resigned voice gained through decades of talking to politicians.

"I should think it'll be immensely dull, Prime Minister. Nothign controversial here, nothing to be fought for. Just another conference." The Prime Minister nodded. The other delegates, already seated around the long oak table, were babbling contededly. The Praetonian delegation was sitting at a conspicuously unimportant point on the table and, although it seemed to the Prime Minister that everyone was babbling away contentedly, he could sense a restlessness beneath the hubbub.

"If we don't start soon we could have a revolution on our hands." The Cabinet Secretary let out a short snort of laughter to make his view of the Prime Minister's exaggeration quite plain. The Prime Minister smiled, "At any rate, I'm getting a little bored. Will he be long?"

At that point a Herald dressed in red with gold lacing and adorned with medals rapped three times on the table with his cane. "Ladies and gentlemen, pray silence for His Majesty the King." At this point the military band positioned in the top right hand corner of the room struck up 'God Save the King' and a the King entered the room, accompanised by two Privy Councillors, and made his stately way to the head of the table, smilied amicably to the foreign delegates. He looked frail and age was starting to finally take its toll, but he gave off an aura of dignity and gravitas that still inspired a certain kind of awe and devotion in the Prime Minister.

He had reached the head of the table, but neither he nor his two Councillors sat down. "Your Majesties, ladies and gentlemen, dignitaries from all over the free world, welcome!" The table erupted in applause.

"Please, friends, please," the King waved them into silence, and the delegates retook their placed. "Welcome, again, friends, for in coming here today you have given the world hope for the future. Hope that the values of liberty and honour shall not fade quietly into the dark. Hope that the much-discussed hegemony of the unified tyrannies of the CAD bloc is but myth. This is not the first time that the free states of the world have assembled their representatives around a common table, but, friends, this time must be our most successful.

"Unlike the realms of tyrants, the free states have never been able to form a truly united bloc. The disadvantage of being free states, I am sure you will udnerstand, is that agreement must occur through mutual benefit and agreement, not intimidation and fear as the CAD states used to hold their alliances together. But they have come to us, friends, with their ways of coersion and violence, and we can no longer sit back and talk of how to solve it.

"We have seen, in the past, tyranny rise in many states. We have seen it rise in Inkana, and we were found wanting. We have seen it rise in ViZion, and we were found wanting. We have seen it rise in Kraven, and we were found wanting. We cannot afford to fail so miserably every time any longer. We have felt, perhaps through some misguided sense of respect or fear for the consequences, that we must not incite conflict. That liberty is less important than soveriengty, less important than the basic decency of man. No longer can this be the case. Any state which imposes tyranny upon its citizens, which seeks to export that tyranny abroad, as illegitimised itself through its own actions. The CAD is as strong as it has ever been. Now the GASN rises to challenge us. The enemies are all around us, but where is the battle? It is nowhere.

"Ladies and gentlemen, friends, I do not know if this conference will change the world, but it is a start. I am an old man now," he said it as if the other delegates would not otherwise have guessed, "and I know I will most likely not see the work that I have started here, on this day, at this conference, but I must have hope. The world must have hope. The old order has prevailed for too long. Now we, the new states, the new powers, must arise to take our rightful place as the new order. The Sovereign League."

He sat down.

Prime Minister Constantino Sorantanali says there has been
"no clear word" over whether Praetonian officials and other
delegates wish to include Pacitalia in the new Sovereign
League, viewed widely around the world as a much stronger
and much more effective successor to the Woodstock Pact,
which is seen as a massive failure to many.

Many doubts about new Sovereign League, PM says
Praetonian-led effort lauded as the next great pro-democracy alliance but will it be just another 'Pact?

Marco Bantafugra, Timiocato

The Pacitalian prime minister says he is "interested" in the new Praetonian-led Sovereign League but was cool on whether or not the Democratic Capitalist Republic would join the new alliance started by Praetonia's prime minister, Tiberius Polax.

"I am concerned mostly over the desire of the people," Constantino Sorantanali said Tuesday. "While we have not been officially invited to join the alliance by any applicant, or Praetonian officials themselves, the question still remains as to whether or not the public wishes to be involved in an alliance with similar features and aims to the Woodstock Pact."

Pacitalia quit the Woodstock Pact due to the ineffectiveness and unicentric policies Timiocato's delegates said was ripe within the organisation. The lead delegate to the pact, Giulio Barnetta, said recently that "Pacitalian attempts to right the ship could not succeed because certain members did not want them to.

"And later on," he added, "when those attempts were recognised as beneficial, those rebuilding strategies necessary to the alliance's survival, and the problems so terribly obvious to all involved within the group that there had to be something done, the resulting solutions were still so feeble that the Pact really lost all its credibility, and especially so after jumping at the opportunity to continue an ultimately fruitless war with the CAD."

Pacitalia was widely seen as the role-model nation in the Woodstock Pact despite Sarzonia's leadership in the group. Pacitalia "[was] the ultimate, the apex, the pinnacle of democracy, liberty and freedom" as both Yaforite and Space Unionists once put it. Pacitalia's departure from the alliance was, in addition to the war against CAD, seen as a major blow to the abilities and credibility of the pact.

International analysts are curious as to what the Sarzonian response will be to the creation of an obvious successor to the failed Pact, especially with the founder of the alliance being Sarzonia's strongest ally, but they are also equally curious as to what Sorantanali and his government would think of being called a "Praetonian-style" nation should the Democratic Capitalist Republic join the new Sovereign League.

"Arguably, Pacitalia has its own style, in government, in diplomacy and politics, democracy, culture... you name it," says Liz Cunningham, a senior political science professor at the University of Mandragora. "It takes quite a bit of work to earn that pedigree, so to have it said, or implied, that Pacitalia lies in the shadow of Praetonia instead of beside it... we will have to see how the prime minister takes that perception should it arise."

Space Union, Willink, the Khailfah al-Muslimeen, Questers, Skinny87, The Silver Sky and Czardas among others have been asked by Praetonia to create this new Sovereign League. But the level of uncertainty as to whether or not it would be beneficial for the Pacitalian Republic to join is expected to keep Pacitalia out of any founding role.

Pacitalian officials are reportedly also concerned about whether joining an alliance patronised by the KLM would detract from Oceanian-Pacitalian relations, but Cunningham, an Oceanian herself, says this alliance serves as a good opportunity for the United Kingdom, Pacitalia and the KLM.

"Perhaps this could be the venue through which New Albion is solved," she added. "Pacitalia has an opportunity, should they join, to bring these two to a table with many ears and many voices and ideas that can help solve this problem better than other attempts could or with a unilateralist decision on the part of the Pacitalian government. If this were to succeed, it might provide the starting point for warm relations between the KLM and the United Kingdom instead of the current cold-war environment of hostility."

Velkyan Entry Into the Sovereign League

Fredrick Fazlo, Velkya City Office

Allied Union Senatorial Forum (Capital)

After a late night session of the Grand Senate outside Bright Hill, Velkya City, the hundreds of senators filed out of the main senatorial building at 9:43 VPT, signaling an end to. Approximately 32 minutes later, press officers of the Senate announced that a 64-36 verdict okaying Velkyan entry into a new international entity had been passed, and that Velkyan delegates would soon be dispatched to the upcoming conference on the formation of the pact, confirmed to be called the Sovereign League by both domestic and international sources.

The Sovereign League (hereby known as the SL) is a Praetonian-led directive designed to replace, at least to an extent, the near-defunct Questarian Commonwealth (of which the Allied Union was a founding member of) and the famed Woodstock Pact alliance, a major rival and frequent wartime adversary of the imperialistic CAD alliance, which has suffered from a decline of influence and power over the years since it's formation. The Sovereign League, much like it’s predecessors, is intended to be a liberally minded of democracies, however, Praetonian officials have promised entrees that the alliance will take a much more proactive stance against tyrannical governments and alliances, to avoid such bloodbaths such as the ViZion civil war and the invasion of Czardas.

This was music to the ears of government and military bigwigs, who have been yearning for a group to stand with in the recently bloody turn of events enveloping its allies, such as the Juumanstrian-Questarian war, which Velkya has decidedly remained neutral in, despite heavy casualties on both sides, included many civilian deaths.

On the domestic side of things, first-round blog and online polls show that the Velkyan populace is roughly divided between a internationalist stance and a isolationist stance, with alliance supporters coming out slightly ahead. More news on this later when later poll results and updates come in.

Congressional Building

Matsumara Shumkichi, Christiandom

Two weeks of arguments and counter-arguments have filled the sacred halls of the Congressional Building discussing the recent formation of the Sovereign League, and weather or not Jagada should try and seek membership, and rumors suggest even founding role, in this new pro-democratic alliance. The debates were so intense, that not even the usually solidified ruling National Renewal Party could remain even partially unified on their stance. The more Traditionalist elements of the party condemned the Highest Minister's proposal, three weeks ago, to seek membership into the alliance. One the other side of the aisle, or in some cases just the Congressmen next to you, the Moderate-Traditionalists and the Progressives argued that Jagada's presence in the alliance would catapult it into the World Stage and clearly show Jagada's new commitment to democracy. The issues range from a variety of issues such as weather or not the League will take an active role in its member-states domestic issues. Also, as to weather or not restricts or conditions will be placed upon a Jagite membership due to its very-conservative society which foribd such controversial things as abortion, homosexual/lesbian marraige, tattos, alcohol, and a variety of things which most liberalist democracies allow.

In most countries, the Executvie Branch is allowed to formally apply for membership and if it is initially accepted by the Alliance, the Executive then returns to his/her's Legislative Branch for their apporval--then the membership is solidified. In the Monotheistic Republic, the situtation is turned around in the Republic. The fear comes from when former Lord Protector York, without consent of any referrendum, brought Jagada into the Slave State Fold of The Kraven Corporation. The Republic's laws, made right after the first Congressional Elections in 2040, dictate that any Executive must ask for Congressional approval before the application is even sent--then once it is sent and approved, Jagada will become offically apart of that alliance.

Earlier today at eight o'clock, Jagite Standard Time, Congress voted on the issue, and a mere fifteen minutes later the offical numbers came out. Overall 293-257, in approval for acceptance into the League--with the National Renewal Party almost split down the middle. As it stands now the Highest Minister has sent a message to Praetonia requesting that Jagada be allowed into the Alliance, and if agreeable will be permitted to come to the current conference being held.

The arrival was met with dismay. He wasn't expected here, not by anyone, not by the Questarian delegation who had already consumed multiple cups of water. In a suit and top hat, looking suitably 1900s capitalist, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales himself, Prince Richard II stepped into the hall and bowed, smiling. From his moustache, to the thick brown hair to the rough chin, he was a true Questarian gentleman - he did not carry the Prince's sword into the conference, instead deciding to arrive in a more modern fashion. He sat down on the table next to the Foreign Minister, who was looking typically surprised, put his top hat down, straightened his tie, and spoke again.

'Sorry about that. So, as you were saying?'

The Foreign Minister gulped down some more water. What the bloody hell was that old fool doing here? He couldn't talk politics. Genocidal dictators and repressive communist regimes are slowly outnumbering free states such as the ones gathered here today. It would not so much be a problem, if these nations were not supported by great powers seeking only for short term victories.

At this moment in time, there are no alliances willing to stand up and say no.

However, there is a glimpse of hope. With every minute we grow stronger, the forces of evil are weakened. With each agreement we make, their power is weakened. My friends, just look towards the spectrum of evil to see what it is our duty, as leaders of our countries, to oppose.

Look to Doomingsland where humans are tortured for believing different.

Look to Hataria where war is declared as if for a practical joke.

Look to Kraven, where humans are bred to be military machines.

Look to the various Communist states, where the state regularly robs money from its citizens.

And who stands against this tyranny, this oppression? My friends, we are meeting here today because we are the only states willing to stand up, to say no, to genocidal warmongering dictators, to repressive communist regimes, to all that stands against peace and freedom in this world.

This is why I propose that the Sovereign League be created with the intention of defending freedom, whatever the cost, wherever it is challenged. We simply cannot wait any longer. If we do, I fear that we may lose everything.’

The Czardaian diplomat attending the Sovereign League conference stands up.

Swaying slightly in the threatening lack of wind, the slightly tipsy diplomat coughs wetly and examines his notes, which he does not happen to have. Well, damn, this'll have to be an off-the-cuff speech then, and when drunk he is very bad at those. Here goes, anyway.

The diplomat, a young radical named Mortimer Smith, opens his speech in a slightly slurred murmur, which rises in intensity as he goes on (and on, and on).

"My friends, representatives of interested parties, great men and women of your respective nations, leaders and warriors and sovereign-- even sovereign monarchs... I wish to express my utmost gratitude for being allowed to speak amongst such --" vague hand gestures-- "people".

Not aggressive enough, maybe? Or too pompous?

"I agree with everything everyone has said so far... Bad stuff is happening and we're the only people who can stop it."

There is a silence for far too long during which the Czardaian delegates fidget uncomfortably. Smith resumes, sensing that the people do not exactly want him to be done yet.

"Only by uniting under a banner of ... freedom, yeah, freedom -- can we hope to stand united against the enemy, the au-tho-ri-ta... authoritarian. The purveyors of genocide, warmongering, fascism, communism, and so many other ... bad things. Um. Like yeah. And, uh, do you have a restroom anywhere around here?"

Mortimer Smith hops off to a restroom and the other Czardaians rise to apologise for his behavior. This is a slight mistake as one Czardaian is wearing a bunny suit complete with pom-pom tail and oversized ears, and a second a T-shirt with the words "ZOMG! I r t3h PWN!" on it, among assorted pornographic and profane references. Only the third, a small neat man named Lorin Dax, is conventionally dressed, and at his meagre 156cm is dwarfed by the others.

Dax, however, is the one who speaks, and in a surprisingly carrying voice, not the squeak seemingly expected of him. "I'll speak for the Greater Czardaian Whole Sort of General Mish Mash in the future, of course," he says reassuringly. Dax is more reliable than most other Czardaians.

Dax then whispers audibly to his seconds, "And get some formal clothing on!"

They disappear unobtrusively as Dax sits back down, highly aggravated.

This is going to be a long conference.

Parliament Overwhelmingly Votes to Join Sovereign League
As part of a wider agenda of the Powers government to end Whyatican near-isolationism, Parliament today voted 352-98 for joining the Sovereign League. Debating continued in the Parliament after the vote ended, as the two Communist Party delegates in the Parliament violently opposed joining a capitalist alliance. During the the vote, the Communist Party was very nearly censured by the Speaker of Parliament for repeatedly ignoring proper rules of debate, interjecting their own propaganda into the speakings of the representative from the 18th District. The Centrist Party, the leading party, along with the Libertarian Party, a far second, argued overwhelmingly in favour of joining the Sovereign League, as one of the main planks of the Centrist Party is the ending of the near-isolationist stance of Whyatica. For dozens of years, the only nation Whyatica interacted with was it's land neighbour, Velkya.

The Emperor himself approved this measure, adding his signature to the resolution. However, his approval is solely for show, as the Emperor has no actual power in the Empire. Ezekiel IV expressed his private approval to a reporter after the events in Parliament, stating that he believes this will be the best course for a strong Whyatica. A diplomat is to be dispatched to the Sovereign League conference shortly.

In other news, two murders were reported today on the outskirts of the 22nd District. From initial information gathering, police forces have come up with a sketch...

The Taldaani delegate had remained essentially unnoticed thus far in the talks, save for a few cursory formalities with other diplomats that he didn't know and didn't trust. But then a career in the diplomatic corps had taught Tal Bizon one great lesson: no man gives without taking away in equal or greater measure. It was an automatic defence rather than a calculated insult. But even so, his fellow representatives seemed like a better crowd than usual. Despite the high proportion of royalty in the room irritating his republican sensibilities, he decided that for much of this talk he would be preaching to the choir. Taldaan had had very good relations with many of the prospective members of the Sovereign League already: in fact, he recognised most of the nations in the room as having been poached from the Woodstock Pact. The Czardaians he also recognised as yet another party who would be on his side: not only had Taldaan assisted Czardas in the CAD Crisis, Tal had been at the talks in person.

The wildcard here, in his eyes, would be Jagada. A highly conservative state, bordering on theocracy, was anathema to Taldaan, and while they had broken free, their past as a Kraven slave state could not be ignored. Even so, with their rebuilding probably still underway, a free trade agreement attached to the Sovereign League charter could allow an untapped market for Taldaani firms, and there was always the possibility that contact with more liberal nations could help them to carry out their own liberalisations.

Competing with two Kings, a Prince, and a Czardaian alchoholic, it was not a surprise that the Taldaani diplomat in his plain black suit had not stood out immediately, but he would nevertheless try to push his own agenda. Detecting a lull in the talks, he stood up to deliver his piece.

"Representatives of the free nations of the world, it is an honour to be invited to take part in the foundation of what I am sure will be an influential and prestigious organisation.

And now, to the point. This conference has already seen enough posturing and promises to defend global democracy, and yet not enough actual substance. While noble displays of the laudable liberty and prosperity of our respective nations are not to be demeaned, I humbly suggest that we save them for after this meeting.

My reasoning behind this is simple. For the Sovereign League to survive, we will need more than anti-authoritarian zeal. We will need clearly defined policies, and we will need assertive, decisive, and most importantly frequent action. For while we congratulate ourselves on our freedoms, we forget the many nations that oppose them. The Coalition Against Democracy, who many of us have locked horns with at one point or another, remains a force to be reckoned with. And they are not the only ones. I need only direct you to the recent massacre of medical workers in Tocrowkia to prove that. These oppressive, dare I say evil, nations must be dealt with, whether through diplomacy and economic actions, or if absolutely necessary through force of arms. While I do not relish combat, I see it as necessary in dire circumstances.

To maintain this stance, it is important that we remain strong and unified within the alliance. I therefore propose that we form a common market between signatory nations of the Sovereign League. By eliminating obstacles to free trade between our nations, our citizens will be more prosperous, our firms more competitive, our nations stronger, and with the increased flow of ideas and capital, we can very quickly see tangible benefits for all involved."
