To get around Khenas city there you can also use the metro or atax. be aware that Khenian Taxi signs say TAKSI, not TAXI, and the ones that say taxi are pseudo taxies which are operated by scam artists who want to convince you it is the other way around, so they can overcharge you.

Eat: khenas does not really have its own cuisine. retaurants of all types can be found throughout the country, especially aroun, but not in the city center of Khenas city.

Drink: Its fair to say that people do not come to Khenas for the alcoholic drink culture. No, they are not banned, they are just not popular with the khenian people, however they can be found in bars, and places catering mostly to foreigners.

Tea is a popular drink in khenas, ad is easty to find (however it is expensive because people want to make a big profit from its popularity).

Bottled water and Soda can also be found.

Sleep: Khenas has many places to sleep, both inside and out of its capital city. notethatt the hotel rating systm is differnt, as 1 is the highest and 5 is te lowest. this is based on this whole "first class" thing.
Okay, keep waiting and ill give you more!

Learn: There arent really any good universities in Khenas. Many Khenians leave their country to go to university, so that shows that you should not go to khenas to go to university.

Stay Healthy: While the tapwater is safe to drink in Khenas City, avoid drinking tpwater anywhere else.

Reloria
02-07-2006, 23:41
Reloria is a country located on a very large, solitary island (with a few smaller islands accompanying it) over a thousand miles away from any other landmasses. There is little to no ethnic diversity within Reloria, though Relorians are well known for being welcoming and tolerant people. Tourism is a small but growing industry, with the number of travellers frequenting the country growing each year.

Cities

Much of Reloria is rural, with roughly half the population living in small towns and villages all across the large landmass. With the exception of a handful of cities, most major urban areas are located on the coasts, a remnant from Reloria's historic foreign occupation. Notable cities include:

Mukasus -- the capital city of Reloria, a clean and modernised city
Jealia -- often dubbed the 'twin city' of Mukasus, Jealia is also located inland a few hundred kilometres from the capital, and is just as clean and modern
Daggjar -- a major coastal city renowned for its active nightlife
Covidia -- a beautiful coastal city particularly popular with tourists
Portland -- as its name suggests, Portland is home to a series of major international ports. You will likely end up here if you arrive by ferry
Helrisia -- yet another beautiful coastal city, well known for its old fashioned architecture and extensive historical attractions
Weblos -- a highly commercial city, with shopping facilities second only to Mukasus and Jealia

Understand

Climate

The South-Western portion of the peculiar, diagonal-hourglass shaped island enjoys warm Mediterranean weather all-year round. Mild winters and warm summers punctuate the general conditions of this part of the island, though rain can be disruptive during winter. The North-Eastern portion of the island is more temperate, with mild summers and cool winters, and the risk of rain looms all year round. Extreme weather is not considered a high risk at any time or place in Reloria.

Terrain

Reloria is a largely flat country. The coasts are framed with long, wide beaches and sand dunes, whilst the inland is generally flat grassland with rich oak forests further north. Care should be taken when rambling as some areas of farmland, especially in the North, lack fences or identifiable borders.

History

Early written historical records show that Reloria has been a female-dominated agricultural society for at least 7,000 years. Families were organised around dominant land-owning matriarchs, a tradition which ultimately lead to the establishment of the royal Matriarch some 3,000 years ago. The country was united under the banner of the Matriarchy at roughly the same time. The nation largely enjoyed peace and a period of technological stagnation for the next 2,400 years.

Over the last 600 years the nation has been dominated by three different, unidentified empires of foreign origin, which has brought various levels of oppression and violence to the nation. Very recently the nation was awarded independence as the Third Empire withdrew its claim to power peacefully, creating the Constitutional Matriarchy of Reloria. The new government, under the majority control of the Relorian Social Democrat Party, has been making great strides to reform all aspects of the country to create a clean, modern and free society.

Get In

Passports and Visas

Under the Relorian Neutrality Act, citizens of all nations are covered by the same entry procedure, with no favouritism or special conditions. Passports from all countries are recognised by Relorian border control, and no special visa or other such documentation is required for entry or exit. The Relorian government is known to strongly favour the implementation of biometric passports (Relorian citizens are already issued with such passports), though the lack of such a passport will not be a great disadvantage

By Plane

Mukasus International Airport is a very large facility that has recently been expanded and modernised to include all the expected amenities and services of an advanced 21st century airport. 75% of all international flights end up at Mukasus International, and it is home to nearly 90% of all departing flights. Many well-known airlines have recently flocked to the airport, and it now offers flights to most nations. Mukasus is home to the newly-established Relorian Luxury Airlines, which offers premium flights to and from the country.

Jealia National Air Hub is the second-largest airport in the country, though Jealia mostly deals with domestic flights. Few international airlines fly from here, though the airport does handle a few international flights.

Weblos Airport offers international flights, but mostly deals with commercial traffic.

By Boat

Roughly 30% of visitors to Reloria arrive by cruise ship, and nearly 70% of those arrive at the city of Portland with its impressive international shipping services. Many pleasure cruises and direct cruises will stop here, and the facilities within the harbours are extensive and impressive.

Get around

By Car

A car will get you to most places in Reloria, though it can be expensive. A recent oil crisis has pushed up fuel prices to well past $5/per litre, and cities are often subjected to congestion charges. Biofuel is subject to significant tax breaks, and is mostly cheaper than standard petrol or diesel. All cars are subject to road tax, which is quite expensive and based entirely on emissions. If renting, it is advised that you take a small, clean, economical vehicle, or rent one of the increasingly-popular hybrid models which receive tax breaks.

Congestion is not really a problem, as Relorians generally do not appreciate cars. Even before strict government legislation and taxation and the oil crisis, a surprisingly small number of Relorians even owned a vehicle. As a result, even inner-city roads are generally free flowing, and traffic is only a problem on Friday rush hours.

Inter-city road networks are well-developed, with 8 - 10 lane motorways being the order of the day. All roads within Reloria are toll-free, and all but the most rural roads are of a high quality, with smooth high-grip surfaces and well-marked lanes. Road signs are used sparingly (primarily due to aesthetic concerns), but they are used effectively. Although all road signs are written in Relorian, most of them use logical pictographs as well.

Speed limits in Reloria are quite strict and enforced ruthlessly by highway police and city wardens, and are measured in kilometres per hour. Motorway speed limits are 75kph. The national speed limit, which applies to most main roads, is 65kph. Residential and retail areas carry speed limits of 35kph, while other inner-city main roads are usually limited to 45kph. Bear in mind that some roads may carry unique speed limits for unique conditions (roads besides schools, roads undergoing construction work, etc), and will be signposted accordingly. Fines are high, and imprisonment is possible for excessive / repeated breaches.

Driving under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs is entirely illegal, with a strict limit of one unit. Random spot-checks are not unheard of, and jail time is almost certain for offenders. It is best to avoid drinking at all when driving, or simply take a taxi home.

Relorians drive on the right.

By Taxi

Although most taxi companies are quite expensive, as they suffer the same fuel costs and taxation as all drivers, their drivers are generally friendly and well-versed in the local cartography, making them an excellent choice for inner-city travel, especially if you are lost! Mukasus taxis are recognisable due to their deep blue colour, the same shade of blue as the national flag.

By Thumb

Relorians are generally friendly and helpful, and Relorian drivers often subscribe to the principle of pool cars. However it should be noted that Relorians do not drive as much as foreign counterparts. So although hitchhikers should not have much trouble hitching a ride when they find someone going in their direction... it may be quite a while before they do actually find someone going in their direction.

By Train

All rail services within Reloria, including city-based subway and tram networks, are owned and operated by the state company Relorian Rail. The government has invested a considerable sum of money of late, investing in High-Speed Rail technologies, alternative fuels, and generally expanding the national tracks. Fees are subsidised, making the train one of the cheapest methods of transportation, especially across long distances. Thanks to the widespread use of maglev technologies, trains are typically very fast as well. Basically, you can get to anywhere from anywhere on a train.

By Bus

The state-owned Relorian Local Transit company is the main bus service. Using hydrogen-powered buses and maintaining a regular timetable, buses are generally a clean and cheap method of transportation, but they are mostly limited to local mass transit. Most Relorians themselves tend to use buses to quickly get to railway stations, which perhaps suggests their usefulness.

By Plane

Reloria has a fairly well-developed series of corporate domestic flights, though due to emissions laws they can become quite expensive if regularly used. The existence of high-speed maglev trains which provide near-total coverage of the country is a better and cheaper alternative.

By Boat

Given the fact that most major cities reside on the coast, there is a fairly large network of inter-city ferries. This can be quite expensive and takes longer than both cars and trains, but there is no better or more entertaining way to see the beautiful Relorian coastline.

Talk

The national language of Reloria is Relorian, and is the first language of almost everybody. There are some regional accents, but the general content of the language is largely universal. The Relorian language has an exotic accent and some fairly precise pronunciations, which can be difficult to replicate -- foreigners attempting to speak Relorian with the wrong accent may be difficult for Relorians to understand.

English has been taught in Relorian schools as standard for the last 30 years however, and most Relorians who are capable of speaking it will do so to make visitors feel more comfortable (only if the visitors themselves speak it, of course). They will be impressed if you can throw in a few Relorian phrases of your own, however. Relorians generally speak English with an exotic, strong accent similar in many ways to French and Spanish accents which can be difficult to understand at times. However, in cities where they are more practised in speaking English, this is not so much of a problem. Relorians in more rural areas may not be comfortable speaking English, usually due to a lack of practice. Additionally, some older Relorian citizens may not have received any education in English at all.

Manners and general politeness are expected within Relorian society. Strangers may greet you frequently, and may be more informal with you than you may be used to. It isn't unheard of for a friendly hug to be used as a greeting, though they will take care to avoid such contact if you make them aware that it makes you uncomfortable. When entering an establishment such as a restaurant or a bar the patrons may all greet you as though you are a regular visitor, and it is best to greet everybody in return. Shouting, unless speaking over a loud noise of some kind, is considered rude. Due to the unusual nature of Relorian societies there are some unwritten rules regarding communication between men and women (see 'Respect' for more details), and a breach of these unwritten rules can be considered highly offensive. Basically, men can expect a general reversal of gender roles, and it is best to avoid being too informal with women even if they do not return the gesture.

See

The capital city, Mukasus, is certainly the must-see location. Market Street is the principle shopping district of the country, with tourists and natives flocking from miles around to visit the classy and cultured high street. The Relorian Grand Palace, previously the Imperial Governor's Palace, is a magnificent monument and the Relorian seat of power, and daily tours are held there for visitors.

And by far the most impressive sight in the entire country is the Nalist Grand Shrine of the Nameless Goddess, an elegant, brightly-coloured building which is visible from miles around. There are harsh entry restrictions for male visitors, though female visitors are permitted entry to the main public areas of the Shrine provided they observe some potentially uncomfortable traditions.

See here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10549773&postcount=16) for more information on Mukasus City.

Do

Coastal visitors can enjoy sunbathing on the golden beaches that frame the island. There are a multitude of coastal attractions as well such as fairgrounds and boating activities. Given the warm climate of the South West in particular diving is a popular activity, with some exotic aquatic life on offer for those curious enough to don a snorkel.

Reloria is also home to a large amount of domestic history, with many artefacts, museums, landmarks and historic buildings on offer. The two most popular such buildings are the Relorian Grand Palace and the Grand Shrine of the Nameless Goddess, both in Mukasus City, and the Mukasus Natural History Museum and the Jealia National History Museum also prove popular. Most cities have a rich and well-documented history, however, and tourist information centres will provide details on the area you are visiting.

Shopping is another great activity, with designer clothing and interior decoration being two of the great industries of Reloria. Market Street in Mukasus is the best place to go, though Jealia and Covidia also have high-class shopping facilities.

Relorians are also fans of high-class bars, eating out and an assortment of nightlife activities. Most cities have a rich and vibrant nightlife.

The jehano is the national currency of Reloria, which is a metric currency and available on the foreign exchange. One hundred pecintos are equivalent to one jehano. The exchange rate of the jehano fluctuates due to a growing economy, but it is generally half the value of the NS Dollar. It has paper denominations of J-500, J-250, J-100, J-50, J-20, J-15 and J-10. It has coin denominations of J-5, J-1, J-0.75, J-0.50, J-0.25, J-0.20, J-0.10, J-0.05, and J-0.01. Some high-street stores will accept NS Dollars, however stores most will refuse foreign currencies or attach an unfavourable fee.

Most major credit and debit cards are accepted by stores within cities, as well as a few cheques from various international banks. The Relorian National Sovereign Bank allows ATM withdrawals from a great many of these banks at no extra charge, and some international banks have begun establishing branches in most major cites. Merchants outside of cities, however, will only take cash.

Another form of currency which is fairly new is the electronic cashcard. These small cards, half the size of a normal credit card, can be topped up regularly at your bank and used to pay for minor services at no extra cost. Stores are particularly eager to accept these cards because they are easier and cheaper to process than hard cash or credit/debit cards.

Eat

Cuisine in Reloria is generally quite good and they enjoy their food. It should be noted that the vast majority of Relorians are vegetarians, so finding a restaurant that serves meat will be tricky, though you can find them if you look hard enough (especially in tourist areas). Dairy products and bread are also quite popular, with cheese and various types of fresh white bread and pastry being served at most restaurants.

Relorians typically only have two meals a day, breakfast and a meal mid-way between lunch and dinner called 'lepichino', usually at around 3 to 4pm. Sandwiches between these two meals are common however. Lepichino typically involves a four-course meal; a starter, two 'main' meals and a dessert. Fast-food does not really exist in Reloria, with most restaurants being fairly classy, and a few sandwich bars dotted around elsewhere. Even though restaurants look quite expensive for the most part, especially those in coastal cities, prices are usually fairly low thanks to large-scale domestic agriculture and high demand.

Drink

Wine is a cultural drink, with Relorians almost entirely drinking domestic brands. White wine is quite popular, and unusually sweet. Unique local alcohol cocktails are also served at most bars, which are generally in the 20 - 40% volume range and with a variety of tastes. Wine is an all-occasion drink, and even the most upmarket brands are quite inexpensive. Ale, beer and the like are fairly unpopular.

Bars are quite popular especially on the coasts, and you shouldn't have trouble finding one. During the day bars will often serve sandwiches, and at nights they transform into veritable parties, often with music and elegant lighting.

The legal age for alcohol purchase is 15, though it is legal to drink at any age if under the supervision of a legal guardian.

Sleep

Hotels are the order of the day. Tourists will find a wide range of options ranging from small two-star rooms, to enormous six-star luxury suites. Prices on the coast are quite high, though they become more competitive the further inland you get. The exception is Mukasus City, where hotels are unusually expensive comparatively speaking.

Learn

The Relorian Government has recently improved schools and colleges, as they had suffered from extensive under funding and propaganda under the foreign occupation. The first set of examination results from school leavers since the present government came to power have shown dramatic improvements of late, and although there is still much to do it is expected that Relorian schools will be amongst the best in the world within the next ten years.

Relorian Universities however have always been respected institutions, and are often responsible for many advances, especially in the areas of medicine and electronics. Entry for foreign students is quite strict, however, as the institutions are largely government-funded and some degree of controversy exists over allowing foreign students to take advantage of them.

At present, a mere 3,500 foreign students are estimated to be in Reloria, and that includes those attending high schools and colleges.

Work

Reloria is unfortunately beset with unemployment troubles. It is difficult to gain a working visa, and companies are finding the employee market saturated as it is and rarely see a need to recruit from overseas.

Stay Safe

Despite its high unemployment, Reloria is a largely-crime free country, and a common joke within the Relorian Civil Security Force is that "crime is an occasional diversion from our paperwork". Some high-ranking Civil Security agents have often been quoted from press conferences as remarking, "what is this 'crime' you speak of?". This lack of a criminal element is more to do with cultural traditions and spirituality than anything the government has achieved, though theft is kept at a minimum thanks to a well-funded social security net.

The majority of crime comes from tourists, ironically, and usually takes the form of pick-pocketing and the occasional drunken brawl at holiday resorts. General common-sense is sufficient to avoid being a victim of crime.

Stay Healthy

The Relorian Health Service is a nationally-funded organisation which has developed quite a reputation over recent months as being clean and efficient, with fairly low fatality rates, an excess of doctors and beds, and fairly low waiting times. Although Relorian citizens can obtain any treatment free-of-charge, visitors will be charged for any treatment they receive if they lack valid travel insurance.

Respect

Relorian people are generally friendly and polite, and although they have some unusual cultural traditions which may not be entirely comfortable for all visitors, they are generally informal. Nalism, the religion to which more than 85% of the population subscribe to, encourages them to think of complete strangers as friends or even family, which can lead to unusually intimate greetings from complete strangers. Friendly hugs are not an uncommon form of greeting, and women are known to kiss the hand and forehead of men as a more 'formal' greeting. It is at this point that social convention in Reloria can become somewhat confusing, however.

Women are the dominant gender in Reloria, due to religious beliefs and cultural traditions dating back thousands of years. For this reason, there are many things which women can do without causing offence, but men should avoid. For example, a woman can greet men and women with a hug or a kiss on the hand. Men should not attempt to greet women in this fashion under any circumstances, however. Typically, men greet women with a simple bow of the head. In rural areas, where traditions are followed to much stricter degrees, men should even avoid eye contact with women until told otherwise. Men typically greet other men with a friendly hug, or a clasp of the hands -- not a handshake.

Additionally, men should refrain from attempting to initiate any sort of romantic relationship with women, which can be seem as offensive to many, though this is a social convention which is slowly disappearing. A man commenting on the appearance of women, whether it is complimentary or otherwise, is considered to be quite an insult, though the reverse is acceptable. Women can refer to men and women by their first-name in public regardless of how well they know each other, though men should avoid returning the gesture, and should use proper titles.

Public nudity is not something which is a great taboo nor is it illegal in any way, though for women it is typically reserved for attending Nalist Shrines where it is compulsory. Nudity mostly occurs on beaches, amongst swimmers and sunbathers. Foreigners should prepare for a much more relaxed attitude towards this sort of activity. It should be noted that most Relorians are tolerant of differing sexualities, and polygamy is not uncommon, so one should try and avoid negative comments about either of these subjects.

Public displays of affection are also fairly acceptable, though obviously intercourse should be kept private (mostly due to spiritual reasons rather than any sense of distaste however). Unlike many religions Nalism considers sex to be a gift from the Goddess rather than a sin of some kind, so despite the fact that you shouldn't really do it in public, attitudes towards sex are quite relaxed. Though as has been mentioned, it should be women who ultimately suggest (or, as they put it, 'allow') that such activity takes place.

When dining the more conventional rules of etiquette apply -- do not put your elbows on the table, always use cutlery, do not speak with your mouth full, etc. If you are dining at the same table as a Relorian, it is customary to recite a short prayer to their Goddess before eating, though the small number of atheist Relorians do not observe this tradition for obvious reasons. It is unusual for a man to recite such a prayer unless a woman is not present. It is also customary not to start eating until all present have received their food, nor should one leave the table until all present have finished eating. Typically you can signal that you have finished your meal by placing your cutlery together across the centre of the plate. It is not considered offensive to leave food on your plate. If you do not want something, don't offer it to somebody else.

Shouting, swearing and slang are considered fairly offensive, and speaking ill of the Goddess is considered to be extreme, even amongst the atheist population (for cultural reasons, more than anything). Insults and lewd behaviour are not tolerated -- Relorians will not reciprocate, they will simply give you the cold shoulder. Punctuality is fairly important, so avoid being late for any appointments, be they commercial or personal, for fear of insulting people.

The emergency services can be reached by dialling 0000. The Civil Security Force can be directly reached by dialling 0002. The Emergency Healthcare line (i.e. ambulance service) can be reached by dialling 0001. The fire service can be reached by dialling 0003. The coastguard can be reached by dialling 0004. Highway Recovery services can be reached by dialling 0005. In major cities and on inter-city highways there are emergency telephones which can only be used to call local emergency services directly (bypassing the national call centre), at no extra charge.

Payphones exist in most major cities, though they are dwindling in number as the majority of people have mobile telephones. Most payphones take coins, however some new services will only accept cashcards.

Most major cities and surrounding areas, and major main roads and highways, have mobile telephone coverage. Some rural areas do not have coverage, but several satellite telephone companies operate in Reloria and these will work all over the country -- and you can rent the handsets at a fairly low cost. Next-generation mobile networks (e.g. 3G) are already established in most major cities.

Landline telephones are still the most popular form of communication. 99% of households have them, and most hotels will provide a landline telephone in each room. The dialling code for Reloria is 38175.

Internet access is still being expanded. Most major cities have total broadband coverage, though some still have large gaps. Many hotels provide broadband internet, or at least allow for dial-up internet access. Some modern bars and sandwich bars have wireless networks for a small fee. Public libraries will generally have broadband-enabled PCs, though they will usually have a time limit and a fee. The same satellite companies that provide mobile telephones to rural areas are beginning to provide satellite broadband access to those areas without coverage, though take-up is slow. At present it is estimated that 35% of Relorians use the internet regularly, and 34% of those have broadband access.

There are several Relorian postal services, with the main one being the state-owned Relorian Mail. Relorian Mail is generally reliable and cheap, and also much easier to use as they are the only service to use stamps and mailboxes -- other services require you to go to their branch and pay on the spot.

Beth Gellert

The Indian Soviet Commonwealth of Beth Gellert

General Informarmation:

Her citizens may self-identify as Commonwealthers, Indian Sovietists, Geletians [an ethnic group], or Beddgelens [from Beddgelert, pronounced as Beth Gellert], and as a member of one amongst eighteen tribes-cum-states.

The Commonwealth is young as a unified national entity, and the scars of conflict stretch almost visibly into pre-history. Revolutionary excitability is at a high in this land of almost seven billion lofty Celts.

Portmeirion is usually cited as the Commonwealth's capital. In fact it was the seat of government for the Kingdom of the Geletians under first Adiatorix and then his son, Llewellyn. Today, the eclectic architecture of this over-grown village houses the Commonwealth Final Senate, where directly-elected delegates represent their peers in policymaking, and it is from the near-by Green Tower that the results of legal referenda are first delivered, but Portmeirion has no domestically-recognised official status as capital, per se.

Regions:

There are eighteen states born of ancient tribal territory, plus a substantial colony established by then-Azazia.

One region, the Parmisi People's Federation, consists of just a few small islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and is home to the Commonwealth's only significant non-Celtic population (now mostly mixed race). All of the other states are partly or wholly to be found to the south, on the continental land mass known as Geletia, which covers some eleven million square kilometres.

The large islands of Victoria and Salvador are officially a part of the Durcodi Parliamentary Protectorate, the least radical and socially most backward part of the Commonwealth, but they are under the de facto control of one Prince Llewellyn ap Adiatorix, son of the tyrant who united most of the continent by force and later fell on his political sword as revolution over-took the mainland. The possibility of war between the ISC and V&S is a constant, but no major fighting has happened since the infamous Battle of Salvador, in which revolutionaries fought Iansisle's old order, come to prevent the Soviet invasion of Salvador.

The other regions are The Revolutionary Trocmi State, The Democratic Tolistobogii State, The Sygenii People's Republic, The Pitovirii People's Association, The Soviet Republic of the Tectosages, The Scordisci Soviet Republic, The Durotrige Soviet Socialist Republic, The Deceangli Commune, The Allied Nervii Soviets, The Cornovii Democracy, The Silures Soviet Republic, The Democratic Demetae Republic, The Averni Celtic People's Republic, The Selgovae Soviet People's Republic, The Celtic Soviet Alliance of the Parisii, and The Venetii Free State.

Cities:

One does not come to Geletia for cities. The ruralistic pre-kingdom tribes had no need for cities, and most built by Adiatorix and Llewellyn were destroyed in fighting or abandoned by victorious revolutionaries, who again cluster in communal villages known as Pantisocratic Phalansteries, palaces and fortified villages of which there are between four and five million.

Cities now are hubs for regional government, defence, heavy-industry, and higher-education, and generally have little or no full-time residency: people live in the communes and commute to the homeless cities as required. These are often called university cities.

Exceptions like Tolosa, in the Tectosages Soviet Republic, are impressive. Tolosa is a thousand year old hillfort of epic scale, expanded over the centuries. It contains many communes within its giant earthworks, and has some of the amenities of an unpopulated city

Understand:

Geletia is a democratic land, and, unlike the vast majority of self-styled democracies, actually means it. The community, not the family, is society's base-unit, and all of its members are free and equal. The famously rowdy Geletians, though, are not always tactful in expressing their incidentally liberal bias.

Get In:

While it is possible to arrive over-land from the Azazian colony, this is of little use to most people in the world, and, since the revolution, is neither easy nor safe: tensions on the border are fairly high.

Wing-In-Groundeffect vehicles run services between Geletia and the Indian Ocean's periphery, and prices are very fair.

It is not hard to get to Geletia: a foreigner is more likely to be stopped by his or her own government, afraid of Soviet political and economic liberty, than by the Soviets themselves.

Get around:

Private transport is a non-entity in Geletia. People walk almost as many miles as a citizen of the third world, but not for want of options. Cycles can be rented (really borrowed, as there is usually no obligatory fee), bus services are extensive at all hours of every day, and the nation's railways are famous: they run on an unusually wide gague, which contributes to a world-class safety record and unparalleled comfort... Brunel would have been proud.

Conscious of environmental concerns, the Soviets arrange relatively few internal flights, and it is common for long-distance travellers to take a bus to the coast, take a WIG vehicle to the port closest to their destination, and catch a train from there.

Finally, the newest addition to the mass-transit grid is in the form of electric share-cars. These are little city cars used by citizens and visitors to drive within a region, dropped-off at designated recharge stations and stacked there to await use by another. They are intuative drives and relatively safe.

Talk:

Geletians love to talk. Politics, social happenings, and tall tales. There are dozens of languages, but Geletian is dominant, though containing many quite varied regional dialects. English is widely understood by the highly educated populace, which frequently is rated well inside the world's intellectual top 1%.

Wandering bards still dominate in entertainment over movie-stars, and a guest who is able to spin a good yarn over a spit-roast and a tankard of ale is likely to be embraced by just about any Geletian community.

Equally, one expressing religious conviction is likely to be ribbed mercilessly and cast-out if (s)he fails to take this in good humour, and admission of belief in ownership, employment, or any socio-political hierarchy is best delivered on the way out of the Soviet Commonwealth.

See:

Billions of vital, enthused people living in the honeymoon of revolutionary liberation and the haze of opiates and alcohol. Natural wonders are plentiful, the vast Geletian continent reaching from the Tundric freezer of the Pitovirii to the humid jungles of the Selgovae, with a world of black mountains and green valleys between.

Portmeirion and Tolosa display some of the most distinctive architecture in the world, the mass transit system is worth seeing for its own merit, a typical Phalanstery is a Versailles of the people, and there are carvings and paintings to be found in the earth akin to famous Celtic and pre-Celtic works in Europe.

Also, if you get the chance, attend a Geletian chariot race, and stand well back.

Do:

Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we... damn the hangover and do it again.

Geletians, typically, like to have friends. They are often shockingly open, which is a consequence of communal living, frequent intoxication, and the relative scarcity of capitalist-style money-spinning diversions.

They also like to fight, and many unusual sporting events can be found to watch, while, in a crowded place, shouting, "Who wants a fight?" or throwing a ball will yield interesting results that can not fail to entertain.

Buy:

Here you may have a problem. There's not much to buy, except on Victoria and Salvador, which is full of tourist kitch and consumer crap. On the mainland, friendly behaviour will yield plenty of casually-given gifts, while it is also entirely possible -even encouraged- to sing for one's supper!

That said, one could visit ninety thousand nations and not find an artist able to work metal with half the skill of a Geletian craftsman: jewelry of silver, gold, and countless other materials is worked with ancient skill uninterrupted by the modern world (which learned many a bloody lesson in not imposing itself on Geletia), and is often worth thousands of dollars. Buying it remains difficult, as currency is of limited value in the Commonwealth: it would take years to spend the market-value of a typical broach or necklace on trivialities, and essentials cost nothing. Barter is more likely to meet with success.

Eat:

Geletians tend to eat well, and quite heathily, though they tend to ruin the benefits with drink and drugs. Agriculture is massive, but usually a part-time occupation for a large part of a given community, with farm hands actually being craftsmen, scientists, students, or soldiers chipping-in during their extensive time-off.

In different regions there are different norms, but hearty grub is never hard to find. In some parts it is rice that dominates as a staple, in others it is wheat. Crops are almost all 'organic' -a term that seems redundant to most Geletians- and animals tend to be free-range, but there is little opposition to on-going research into genetic modification, nor to meat-eating. Artificial preservatives, flavourings, and pesticides may be out, but science at large is embraced, and vegetarianism is rarely considered, but animal welfare is an almost inate concern.

Drink:

Water, milk, fruit-juice, tea, these are all drunk by just about everyone. Carbonated beverages are rare. Alcohol is king: children mix a little into their food and drink, government functions require tankards and bowls of ale bordering on classification as broth, and social events revolve around a giant vase of red wine... the Geletians never watered-down their wine, and consider even the finest foreign wines fit for small children and sick people who can't be expected to handle 'real' drink. Foreigners unaware of such facts often spend their first Geletian night in hospital, and alcohol-related deaths are a leading source of population control on the continent.

Sleep:

In a field, at five in the afternoon, up a tree, at six in the morning, you won't be moved-on by the authorities, such as they are.

Most Geletians sleep in dormitories at their Phalanstery, and have spare beds for passing travellers or potential new members of the community. It is usually safe for a stranger to walk into a Phalanstery in the middle of the night, find an empty cot, and bed-down. If said stranger does not cause offence or harm to the community, (s)he will probably be welcomed at breakfast the next day, and often will express thanks with a gift, a day helping-out on the farm or with specific skills (s)he may bring, or perhaps even just a good song, story, or other performance at supper.

Learn:

How to drink, how to wrestle, how to ride a chariot, how to cultivate drugs or other useful crops, how to prepare elsewhere forgotten dishes, to lose one's less useful inhibitions, to take a joke, that democracy is possible but that it does not exist where you come from, the Deceangli for Does this ridiculously huge train stop in Totorum?

Stay Safe:

Don't poke the Gallóangh.

Cope:

Be yourself and mean it. For your own sake, don't be up-tight. Admit that you need help, and it won't hurt to be mildly self-effacing so long as you don't whine.

You don't have to drink that, he isn't really the chieftain and won't really eat your heart if you decline, you're just the butt of a joke, that's all.

Stay Healthy:

Don't settle in Geletia.

Respect:

Logic, bears, and genuine revolutionary effort. Recognise that your Rolex won't get you any respect, nor will talk of your other car or your holiday home, and bear in mind that the average Geletian man is two metres tall and has worked in the fields since childhood... and his little sister could benchpress your dad.

Contact:

Shouting, waving, and starting fires are all valid means of communication within the Soviet Commonwealth, but land-line, satellite, and radio telephones may be found in every phalanstery, available for public use, along with intranet and sometimes internet-enabled computers.

Mobile phones are quite unique, here. They are of radically different technology to those in common use elsewhere, with central computer docks and communal ownership, handsets being signed-out as required. It takes some getting used to, but most Geletians have little interest in it, life being too slow-paced for such immediate and urgent communications to be desperately important.

[b]Stay Safe:

While the crime rate is low, it does happen. Be careful when walking at night. You may want to carry mace, though you may not need it. Parks are usually safe, but do stick with a group if you walk in the parks.

City streets are usually safe. Cross at cross walks and traffic lights, please do not jay-walk.

Watch children in the pools and fountains or in the ocean.

Drive saftley.

While most citizens are freindly, and will honestly show you around, and help you, there are a few con-artists. Do NOT Pay someone to guide you. Tourists Guides are not paid, except for tips. TG's will also not ask you for money up front or to be tipped. If some one asks you to pay them upfront they are likely trying to sham you.

Watch for lightning, and sever storms.

Cope:

National Pride is common. Just because you think Democracy or X relgion is a sham, doesn't mean you need to get rough. Most will debate freindly with you, but if it gets rough stop arguing and leave the person alone.

If it rains, get your gear out, because it will usually rain all day.

[NS]Dastardly Stench
03-07-2006, 06:48
General Informarmation:
(should include the capital city and the region it is in)

The Dominion of Dastardly Stench is nestled snugly within the Magic Realm. As such, it is a place where dreams can and sometimes really do come true. Located in the scenic nether province of Fartsilvania, Beansville, the capital, offers a unique view of the country’s only major waterway, the Black River, as the city is built alongside the river’s flood plain and delta.

Regions:

Whether you’re in the northern coastal region of Litit, exploring the east coast in the Union of Onion, climbing the volcanic mountains in the east in the province of Lumpia, getting to the center of things in Nosepinnea, exploring the seat of power in Fartsilvania or just sitting back and enjoying the island life on either Decayture or Garlacia, the Dominion of Dastardly Stench has something to offer you.

Cities:

If the nightlife in Beansville catches up with you, you can always go mountain climbing in Quackia. If the mountains aren’t your style, you might prefer to surf along the coast, near Wannaspiew, or just relaxing on the quiet shores of Sox. Either way, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy—or lots of time to do nothing at all.

Understand:

The local greeting is “pew.” This is just the Dastardly Stench way of offering a warm welcome. Don’t be alarmed.

Get In:

The only way into the Magical Realm is, of course, through a Magic Portal. Fortunately, your travel agent can arrange these through the auspices of our travel bureau, the Chunk Pipe.

Get around:

You can ride the back of a majestic Musk Dragon, sail on an enchanted schooner whose sails will never be empty or just use our convenient set of magic portals, the Pipeline. Either way, you’ll have no trouble getting wherever you need to go.

Talk:

Owing to our nation’s fantastical location, there’s still some Ancient Dwarvish spoken in some of the more remote areas of the eastern mountains. Still, no one ever has any trouble understanding anyone else, as there is always a local wizard nearby with a good translation spell. Of course, Flatulan is spoken everywhere.

See:

There’s so much to see that it’s impossible to put into a document of this size and scope! Beansville has everything from a famous Jazz band to its own major sports team, the Blowhards, who compete professionally in the nation’s ultimate pastime, Buttball.

Do:

Go to the Buttball courts and maybe get in a squeeze or two. Listen to a brass band. Climb the mountains or just jetski down them. Relax along the beach. Commune with the Elves or the Fart Fairies. The choice is yours!

Buy:

In addition to Dastardly Stench’s world famous line of designer scents, there are a plethora of items available for the discriminating shopper such as our unique jewlry, the lump o’ gold; the music of our famous Wind Musicians and a line of consumer electronics that includes the Quantum Ripple supercomputer and its less expensive cousin, the Ripper.

Eat:

The chefs at Dastardly Stench are famous for that unique national dish, Repeated Beans.

Drink:

Dastardly Stench is almost equally famous for its Cabbage Beer.

Sleep:

There’s so much to do in the Dominion of Dastardly Stench that you probably won’t want to sleep for fear of missing something, but we do nonetheless offer a chain of hotels, the Rest Inn Peace, also referred to by its acronym, the RIP.

Learn:

For the traveling student, the University of Dastardly Stench has many fine programs to offer you, including courses of study such as Organic Chemistry, Biological Weaponry and the ever-popular Explosives Science. Those wishing to remain in the Magical Realm may wish to attend our special series of seminars on Dastardly Stench’s specialist field of wizardry, Butt Magic.

Work:

We’re always looking for good computer scientists and engineers, and for top-notch chemists to work in our Weapons industry. Of course, just about anyone looking for work can find it in our par-fume industry. In some of those factories, it is claimed that the aroma never stops coming through!

Stay Safe:

Nose plugs are available for a small charge at most shops and clothespins can be found for free.

Cope:

Our Bureau of Mental Health, the Mind Blowers, are always nearby. They can be summoned by saying the magic words “ahhmmm loonietoones.”

Stay Healthy:

In Dastardly Stench, there is always a Magic Healer available on call. Just say the magic words “ahhee gahttuh spyoo” and one will teleport over to help you with your emergency.

Respect:

Above all else, respect the local greeting. In Dastardly Stench, if you meet someone and the first thing that comes out of your mouth is “pew!” then you can’t go wrong.

Regions: The Nation is divided into four main regions, all of which are mostly different. One region is primarily dedicated to nature, one to business, (like offices and such,) one to industry (like factories and such,) and the last one to residential, education, history, and tourist attractions. Although the four regions are different, you can find everything that the other regions have in them (ex. In the residential region, you can find some offices, areas dedicated to nature, and factories.

Understand: The law here is very tight, and we suggest you skim over a brochure in order to know what is legal here, as well as the consequences for breaking the law. However, if a tourist breaks the law, depending on the magnitude of the crime, we will go easy on him/her. All vehicles must be hover converted tro travel on major roadways, and those vehicles must use their hover function.

The most famous way to travel long distances is the LUX-3 luxury shuttle,. Tickets for boarding the shuttle are very affordable, and it has accomodations for relaxing, lounging, & sleeping.

See: See the many different natural areas, museums, sporting events, movies, or, as mentioned above, see space or the entire nation through the floors of a Luxury shuttle.

A man named Swillius, who has just become the cheif of one of the tribes, decided to create an emipire that would rule the world. He started off by uniting the tribes of swilatia and settling down. soon, he started atttacking sorrounding civilisations. eventually Swilatia became the largest empire of its time. However, once Swillius died, there was chaos.

Ten years later, a monarchy was formed so the nation would not collapse. the monarchy ruled the nation for more than 1500 years, and that obviously meant that it became corrupt. however it was overthrown in the 19th century. that is when the republic started.

Ariddia
05-07-2006, 19:34
General Information:
Ariddia (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Ariddia) is a group of nineteen islands in the Pacific Ocean (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pacific_Ocean), off the south coast of the continent of Uhuhland. Its capital is Rêvane (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/R%C3%AAvane), located deep inland on the largest island, Ocea. Ariddia is a democratic, socialist republic, governed by Prime Secretary Aj Ud (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Aj_Ud) of the Democratic Communist Party. It is a multicultural nation, and about 30% of the population are Indigenous Ariddians (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Wymgani).

Regions: Officially none. Ariddia has a highly centralised State. There are, however, numerous distinct and recognsed Indigenous communities.

Cities: Rêvane (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/R%C3%AAvane) and Cité-Belle (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Cit%C3%A9-Belle) are two of the main cities. For others, see here (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Category:Cities_of_the_Ariddian_Isles).

Understand:
Ariddians are very socially-minded, and have a strong sense of community. Selfishness and profit are foreign concepts to them, and will be seen as distateful, although some Ariddians may be eager to discuss foreign politics and economics. Likewise with religion; most Ariddians are atheists, and few actively practise any religion (see here (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Religion_in_Ariddia) for more on religion in Ariddia).

Ariddians find the very idea of eating meat appalling, and deliberately harming an animal (including insects and fish) is a serious crime.

The climate is semi-tropical, often very warm and humid.

For more general information, see here (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Category:Ariddian_Isles).

Get In:
Most visitors fly into Ariddia. There are six international airports, in the major cities, all of them serviced by Ariddian Airlines (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Ariddian_Airlines), a fairly cheap, government-operated company which sells only economy-class tickets.

It is also possible to enter by sea. Some cruise ships visit coastal ports including Cité-Belle, Espérence, Haven and Wavecrest. Also, Fraternity Sealines (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Fraternity_Sealines) is one of several boat companies linking West Ariddia to Ariddia.

The only land border is between Uhuh-Topia and the Ariddia exclave of Gnatanamo in continental Uhuhland. It can be crossed by car.

Get around:
Ariddian Airlines operates domestic flights. There are also trains, buses, taxis and boats circulating throughout the country.

Talk:
Wymgani (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Wymgani_%28language%29), French and English are the native languages. Many Ariddians, however, are fluent in at least one foreign language, and there are numerous immigrant communities from around the world, making Ariddia a highly multilingual nation.

See / Do:
Ariddian cities, towns and villages are dotted amidst thick virgin forests, many of which are protected by strict environmental legislation. There are stunning hikes through the untouched nature, and, for those willing to travel that far into the forests, the Ieoa burial site (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Ieoa_burial_site) is a site of great historical importance.

In the cities, visitors can enjoy many museums, including the National History Museum, the Museum of National Art, the Grapefruit Museum, the World Museum of Sculpture and Architecture, the Museum of Realism, the Wymgani Cultural Centre, the Museum of the World, the pacifist Museum of War, and the Numismatics Museum.

The city of Haven boasts the beautiful Pacific Botanical Gardens, and Rêvane also has some large, lovely parks.

Rêvane's other attractions include the country's most famous monument, Progress Tower (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Progress_Tower), the bustling Avenue Weyle'e and a vibrant Chinatown.

Buy:
Ariddia is a moneyless society, and Ariddian citizens benefit from free goods and services, but foreign visitors must pay. There are a few tourist shops in the cities and some towns and villages, and supermarkets, often quite small.

Eat:
Ariddia is not renowned for its haute cuisine, but wherever tourists go, restaurants can be found. As Ariddians are vegetarians, no meat is to be found anywhere in the country. Ariddian food is most often healthy and nutritious, even in "fast food" restaurants. Rêvane and Cité-Belle have the most restaurants, including many restaurants operated by the nation's many cultural minorities.

Drink:
Pubs can be found throughout the country. Most Ariddians love anything made from grapefruits, and grapefruit-based drinks go from fresh grapefruit juice to the popular graprefruit vodka, not to mention grapefruit tea.

Taldaan
05-07-2006, 21:59
General Information: Taldaan is a large nation in the Pacific ocean, consisting of one very large island with a few smaller islands off the west coast. The capital, Caldera, is roughly central on the main island. Taldaani culture is an amalgam of native Taldaani with strong influences from all over Asia and South America, as well as a strong European presence.

Regions: Although Taldaan is not officially divided into regions save for constituencies, it is split geographically between the rolling plains of the north and the rainforest
and wetlands to the south.

Cities: The main city is of course Caldera, although others of note include the ancient capital of Alchora, the historic port of Kingsview, and the vibrant cultural centre of Toku. Although these are the main cities, every city in Taldaan has its own unique character.

Understand: That not everyone shares your inhibitions. In Taldaan, as long as you aren't hurting other people, anything goes. Nudists are a rare but legal sight in any community, recreational drugs are sold openly, and public displays of affection aren't just limited to heterosexual couples. Even so, due to this culture they'll accept you too, so as long as you keep any outrage in check, you can expect the people to be some of the most friendly and hospitable on the planet.

Get In: With every city in Taldaan having an airport, the easiest way to enter the country is by air. For those looking for an alternative, ferries also land at the coastal cities, so those looking for a more relaxed journey and a chance to see the Pacific ocean can come by sea.

Get around: Car hire is available throughout Taldaan, although fossil fuel powered cars are banned. Hydrogen and electricity are the most popular fuels, and refuelling stations are common along major roads. Still, if you want to travel in style, Taldaan has an excellent, modern high-speed maglev train network that reaches all across the country. Meanwhile, in the cities, why not leave the car and travel on foot? With a two-level road system in most cities, pedestrians can walk the streets while motor vehicles drive beneath their feet. Still, for those who don't want to walk, there is always the monorail.

Meanwhile, out in the rural areas, some of the more traditional methods of transport can provide unique and memorable experiences. In the south, riverboats take you from town to town in comfort, while giving you an excellent view of the stunningly beautiful Taldaani rainforest. Meanwhile, enterprising men and women have begun offering "elephant taxi services", which while comparatively expensive are a safe and fun way to tour off the beaten track.

Talk: Taldaan is a bilingual nation, with both Taldaani and English as official languages. As every citizen is educated in both from birth, if you don't understand one, they will be able to speak the other. However, the Taldaani dialect can cause problems. Taldaani people often speak in both, switching in mid sentence to whichever language gets their idea across better. Still, if you have trouble with this, a polite request will fix it.

See: The best way to observe Taldaan is just to explore for yourself and see what interesting things you can find. Even so, some areas should be visited by everyone, including the Imperial Quarter in Kingsview, the treetop villages near Turtle Rock, and the vast Meteor Falls National Park. Also, if you're in Taldaan in late April, make sure to attend the Taldaani Independence Day festival. Stretching over three days, it is a national holiday and is celebrated with street parties, parades, and lots of fireworks and alchohol.

Do: As well as the impressive natural beauty of Taldaan, there are many activities, including water sports and sea fishing along the coasts, visiting museums, galleries, and theatres in the cities, or climbing and hang-gliding in the vast mountains around Meteor Falls.

Buy: Shopping opportunities can be found almost anywhere with people, but for shopoholics, the place to be is Alchora. With a shopping district packed with boutiques and bazaars selling pretty much anything, it is to consumerism as Mecca is to Islam. For the less avid shopper, traditional markets are held frequently all over Taldaan, selling mainly local produce.

Eat: As a multicultural nation, Taldaan has restaurants from all over the world. Sushi restaurants can often be found next to French cuisine. Although Taldaani food is common, as is food from the rest of Asia, anyone looking hard enough will find food from pretty much anywhere.

Drink: Fruit-based drinks are popular throughout Taldaan, the more exotic the better, as are a range of teas and coffees. Although beer is rare, other alcoholic drinks are fairly common. Native Taldaani drinks should also be sampled, such as the traditional kohti chilled fruit drink, or the mild depressant churil tea.

Sleep: Hotels are fairly expensive in comparison to other nations, so it may be a good idea to look into renting a house or flat. Even so, there is a good selection of hotels in every city, as well as several further out of the way. When booking a hotel in Taldaan, look for ones that are part of the Green Ribbon scheme, a voluntary group of hotel companies that maintains a set standard of quality or above.

Learn: Taldaan has a very strong educational sector, featuring both private and public schools. All education is of a very high standard, although all state education is secular. Universities are also world-class, featuring legendary establishments such as Alchora University and the Kinmore Technical School.

Work: Jobs are fairly easy to find. This is easiest with a high standard of education; Taldaan's main industries are high-tech and intellectual, so a university degree is a great help; although less qualification-intensive jobs are available, mainly in retail. Jobs can also be found in agriculture, which is popular among university students during the holidays, although manufacturing is increasingly automated.

Stay Safe: Crime is negligable, although wandering the streets at night with a wheelbarrow full of cash is still a bad idea. Other than that, just don't do aything too reckless.

Stay Healthy: Once again, general precautions really. Sunblock is a necessity during the summer. Also, make sure that you are vaccinated against tropical diseases.

Respect: When greeting a Taldaani citizen, do not shake hands. Although it is not insulting, it is simply not part of the culture, so all you will usually get is a bemused stare. Of course, if one of them offers to shake yours, it is polite to accept. Also, when waving, make sure that the thumb is seperate from the index finger. A wave with a fully closed hand is an insult.

Before I post here, should I post as part of the NS region my nation is in, or as part of the RP thread I play in, which doesn't include any of the nations from my region; it's more of a parallel earth.

Descartesland
19-06-2007, 05:15
General Informarmation:
The Dominion of Descartesland is a large, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. The nation's capitol, Erringore, is the largest city in the country. Descartesland is located in gatesville.

Regions:
Descartesland is separated into the four cardinal regions, north, south, east, and west.

North: Descartesland's north contains many mountains and great skiing.
South: The south is warm and dry, desert conditions in places.
East: The east contains a large mountain range and colder climates
West: The western coast has great surfing and fishing

Cities:
Erringore: Capitol of Descartesland. Beautiful city that welcomes visitors. Virtually 0 crime rate.
The current population of the city is 1 million. The nation's largest university, Erringore University is located here. Unfortunately, Erringore has grown too quickly and pollution is a problem.

The Governmental Complex is located in the center of Erringore. All governmental functions are decided from this location. It is a heavily fortified, walled, inner city.

Korolyov City
Named after a space pioneer from the old country, Korolyov City is the center of Descartesland's space programs. From here, the nation's Cosmonauts are launched into space. Korolyov city also maintains uplinks to all of Descartesland's space based platforms.

New Dublin

New Dublin is a nation on Descartesland's coast. It is the largest port of Descartesland and the home port of Naval Command.

New Galway
A city in the east. Currently being rebuilt.

Understand:

Descartians (the proper adjective form of Descartesland) are a mix of peoples from the surrounding three nations. The mix of Moorsevillian(Scottish), Fellesenian(Irish), and Orasonish(Russian) accents may be surprising, but English is still the official language. In a worst case situation, simply ask someone to repeat what they said slowly. No offense will be taken.

Also understand all visitors to Descartesland are required to carry their issued Travel IDs at all time. Being found without one is grounds for detainment and questioning until your identity can be confirmed.

Get In:
Fly into Erringore International. Your first stop will be Customs, and then Immigration Control, a sub-department of Homeland Control. There you will be issued your Travel IDs.

Get around:
Renting a car in Descartesland is not difficult. Public transportation in major cities is also quite safe and efficient. Travel between cities is best done by HST(high speed train).

Talk:
English of course. If you've got an accent, flaunt it. Our people love hearing new and exotic voices and will often thicken their own accents to join in the fun. You haven't lived until you've heard a three way conversation between drunk Fellesenian, Orasonish, and Moorsevillian accents.

See:
The Space Center in Korolyov City is a great attraction.

Descartesland offers much beauty in nature.

Do:

Anything you can imagine. Erringore has everything from world class sports centers, to an amusement park. If there is something you would enjoy, more then likely Descartesland has it to offer.

We strongly suggest you take some time to enjoy the artistic beauty of the nature surrounding you. There are few animals that can harm you in the nature preserves surrounding Erringore, so a walk through them is quite safe.

Buy:

Shopping is not a large past time for visitors. Locally made clothing and jewelry can be popular to bring home though. Look for an open air market in the outskirts of Erringore or New Dublin, or head into the smaller townships looking for deals. Be sure to barter, all prices are negotiable.

Eat:

All three major cities have several world class restaurants. There is almost any type of cuisine supported in some way, shape, or form. Ask a local their favorite pub and sit in a spell. If you're lucky, they may even buy you a round.

Drink:

Beer, wine, scotch, or vodka. When it comes to alcohol, these are the nations favorites.

Sleep:

While all major cities have hotel accommodations ranging from lavish to spartan, visit a pub. If you are friendly and can hold your liquor, a local may invite you to their home for a night.

Learn:

Erringore University in Erringore Proper is the largest university in Descartesland

Work:

Descartesland currently does not offer many jobs to foreigners. Industries are government run and employ residents.

Stay Safe:

DO NOT CROSS THE BORDERS INTO FELLESENIA, ORASON, OR MOORSEVILLE. Under no circumstances should a traveler EVER cross the borders into any of these three nations. They are extremely hostile and xenophobic.

Stay Healthy:
Food and water are clean and safe in any major cities, but sometimes not in the smaller townships. We suggest if you plan to venture into the country side, you only drink beer or bring your own liquids.

Respect:

It is a dire insult to ask any Descartian where they are from outside of Descartesland. Most of our citizens are refugees from three hostile nations that have since revoked their citizenship, rights, and have ordered them shot on sight should they return to their places of origin.

Unless you are in a pub or restaurant, never try to pay for anything without bartering first. Also, no vendor will accept anything but Cogs. Any major bank can exchange your currency for Cogs at the current exchange rate.

Always leave a tip. If service was not acceptable, a 5% tip shows that.

Don't ask anyone about the Insurrection. It is a part of our turbulent past and brings up bad memories.

Always finish your beer. Otherwise, the bartender thinks that it was not to your standards and may be insulted.

Contact:
Erringore has recently began opening internet cafes and hotspots. The younger generations have began using them as hangouts. As such, they are often crowded but are cheap.

Most Descartians carry cell phones, but they are usually only used for familial or work related contacts.

Descartesland Central Phone System assigns all numbers as 7 digits with a 4 digit area code. For example (1004) 741 - 5284 [The number for Romonavs Pizza in Erringore Southwest].

Kurona
20-06-2007, 03:37
General Informarmation:
The Principality of Kurona is an island country in the exact middle of the Xanadouien Sea, of the region of Xanadou. It's closest neighbors is the Empire of Magic Sorcery and the island state The Republic of Kemonomimi.

Regions:

Northern Kurona, comprised of a few small rolling hills and some mountian ranges including the largest mountain in the country. Somewhat rocky and flat as you move the the south rim.

Cenetral Kurona-Including the Capital City of Sonomi in the Centreal East portion. Among the first parts to be settled it has the most cities but is also very much grass land and plain.

East Kurona-The eastern coast has many fishing communties and a few small ports. Before hitting the coast it's also foresty.

West Kurona-Tall pinewood forests, and acers upon acers of rich farm land. Many farms and small cities and towns scattered through out.

Southern Kurona-Warm beaches and more fishing areas. Mostly plain and flat.

Cities:
Sonomi-the Capital City
Port Yasuragi
Chendrella
Springfeild
Suzumiya
Kanno

Understand:

History

Kurona was founded about the mid 1900's by a mass of various refugees. Mostly fleeing from War, Famine, poverty, corruption, or inmoral nations, many came seeking religous freedom, or safty. Some just came because of it's rich soil, it's protection by the large and often stormy Xanadouien Sea. But by the 1930's the nation entered into a power struggle. As a Royal Government organized it, more and more power was seized. However the Government was generally unopprssive, and really matched the ideals of the people. Soon enough elections we're no more, and the Princes had all controll.

Up untill 1950 all ruling Princes had been male. But soon a Female Princess took over. She was the first to be selected by the RAVEN ORDER, and at that time the only. Sadly she died of the flu about 14 months after she took office. After that a Male came back into the order, he had very diffrent ideas on how to run the nation. He came from a fiercley religious family, and was very conservative. "This nation needs not to deal with the corrupted outside world." Soon enough the borders we're sealed, and no one except certian refugees we're allowed in.

For A Long time Kurona remained in isolationism. Untill Prince Mako Mikanu took the throne. He felt Kurona was struggling for too long and sought to end the isolationsim. Not fully embraced by others. As a compromise to the RAVEN ORDER, he agreed to do it very slowly. Sadly death strikend him and his wife, as Mason's Syndrome was spreading. Because his only daughter Tomoyo was 12, the R.O. Took controll of the country untill she would reach the age of 13, in which she could rule. (That was order to only give to the heir or heriss, is part of the Kurona Delceration of 1947)

Kurona's clostes ally is Kanami. But as Kanami is a more modern nation, this proves to have some barriers to their relationship. They have a complex relationship with eachother, especially when it comes to how the country is ruled. Many in both Kurona and Kanami have saught to break relations. But nither Tomoyo or Prime Minister Romney of Kanami want that.

The national bird was chosen from a verse in the bible. 1 Kings 17:6 where the ravens brought food to Elija

Climate
Although and island Kurona is a temprate climate. However it's postion makes it quite open to a wide vareity of weather year round. Thunder Stroms are quite frequent and only double during El Nino.

Tornado's are quite common. an average of 35 occurring annually, which puts much of the state at around 5 tornadoes per 10,000 square miles annually. Summer tempratures can be as high as 107F though it usually averages around 100 in central and south Kurona. North will usually reache as high as 80F. However it isn't uncommon for it to be cold.

Heavy snow is expected in North and Central Kurona but south doesn't see much snow.

Culture

Life in Kuorona is diffrent. While the rest of the world continues to move ahead with the times, Kurona has always stayed behind. This is to keep their stirct moral intact, and their country free from scourges of greedy capitalism. Years of Isloation have taken it's toll so this is slowly comming to an end. This is also why they like to keep to theme selves, but they do interact with the international community. The major industry is agriculture, 1800-1900 style farms are spread out all over the nation. Ligthed by lantenrs, candles and fireplaces, electricity barley exists. About 98% of homes do not have electriicity. Although they do have good indore plumbing and running water. Much of this is because the Shinto religion belives in purity and cleanliness. Religon is said to be devided right down the middle. 50% are Catholic, and 50% are Shinto. It's rare to fine an atheist or someone of anyother religion. However in the recent years other denominations have come in and taken firm ground.

The major emphasis is on Family, and Family bond. The Divorce Rate is really low.

Homosexuality is very rare. Kurona is a very conservative nation east and west. Even thoes with such sexual prefrences rarley act on their impulses to do so. Most will marry the opposite sex, or not reamary if their spouse leaves or dies, fearing persecution. However this doesn't mean people don't. Homosexuality is only legal out west. There is a dividing line known as the 65th Line which restricts the practice of homosexuality. It is illegal to cross this line with the intent to engage in homosexual activities such as marriage.

Get In:
The only real generic method to get into Kurona is by ship. You can fly in but you will have to rent a bushplane of your own and you will be charged a tie down fee.

Get around:
Cars are not present or allowed in Kurona. There are still methods to get around

On Foot

If you are a real walker or just plan on staying in the inner cities, foot is the best method.

By Horse/Horse Cart
You can rent or by a horse in the cities or in the country from farmers. The cities charge a general rental fee as well as purchase fee but famers may have varried prices. It's the best method if you are going long distances thorugh the country. Cart may cost extra if you have lugguage you want to carry around.

By Thumb

Farmers are usually quite generous and welcoming and you may be able to hitch a ride with them even if it's a full family.

By Boat

Boats are more comon than you might think. Kurona is an island and boating is very common. While there aren't a lot of rivers you can sail around rather than travel cross country. Boats will charge a fee but some will pay you to travel aboard. Be cautious with that though. (See Stay Safe)

Talk:
The offical spoken language of Kurona is Kurma. Japanese Sign Language is the offical signed language. Some places do speak fluent Japanese and English. Sonomi may be more multi lingual than other places.

Standard System of Measurments are more commonly used than metrics.

Politness is also a posotive quality Kuronan's value. Some may use the Japanese Honorfics (san, chan, sama, and sensei sempai) but standard greetings are excepted such as: Good day to you ma'am, or madam. Hello Sir. If you use the Honorifics understand what they mean. A doctor or teacher or the Princess her self can be called sensei
Sempai can also be used for people of this status except the Princess. You can also adress her as Sama. San and Chan are accpetable. It's best not to use Kun with strangers as that is more petish and meant for close freinds or couples.

See:

Sonomi Has a lot of classic archetecture of old Japan.

The highest mountain in Kurona is Chosen Hopless Nothingness

The vast country side.

Do:
If you are an experienced climber you can take tha attempt to climb CHN. Please do so if you are experienced.

If you want to take a short hike you can scale another one of Kurona's small peaks.

Kurona does have sulfer-free hotsprings you can do relax in. Most hot springs are prot natural

Buy:
The currency used is the Kuromian. Because the lack of electricity it's a good idea to have optimal cash on hand because few will take time to write a bill to send to your credit card company. Checks are also not widely accepted unless they are Kuronan checks. Very few stores will take foreing currency. Some in Sonomi may, but few do.

Eat:
Several resteraunts are around and avaialbe. Most sit down resteraunts will require you to tip your waiter or waitress. Cafe's usually don't require tipping.
Some fastfood resteraunts are around but not a great deal. Most sit downs however are informal and inexpenisve. Some resteruants are open for all times of the day while some may only open for breakfast dinner or lunch. Some resteraunts are more exclusive and only serve an expensive brunch.
Hotels will have a continental breakfast usually and some have dinner buffets.
Noodle Carts and stands are widely avaiable around. If you like one type of food there are several places where you can git some of the Kuronan quisiene.

Drink:
Bars are alchol free but do exist. Many are juice bars or vareity of drink bars. Alchol is prohibited in Kurona. Do Not drink from large 75cl glass bottles. This is assosiated with alchol and can get you into serious trouble

Sleep:
Hotels

Hotels are mostly in major cities. They are usually scattered about but can be easy to find.

B&B's

Beads and Breakfasts are more common in smaller cities. Not many towns have them but they are usually afordable and cozy.

Farms and Private Homes
Kuronans are usually welcoming and will invite guests into their home if they trust you. This is more common trend among farmers than city civilans.

Camping
If you are traveling further into the country side you can camp out. You can also find your self stuck camping of a storm strikes when you are moving.

Learn:
There are several schools in Kurona. The University of Sonomi is really the only certified university. Secondary school is expensive so few usually persue more education. The port city has a small college. Most High Schools offer Night Classes for Adults and welcome sub teachers.

Work:
Most resteruants and hotels usually hire. Some farmers may hire you for a short-term labor hand or construction and contract current. It's unlikely you will get a civil service job in the Government unless handpicked.

Stay Safe:
Kurona is generally crime free but it does have pockets of high crime. It's best not to walk alone in a city, otherwise stay in well populated areas of the city.

Because of the climate keep your eyes on the sky. Violent thunderstorms can occur with little to no warning. Tornados can also spawn. Sonomi offers Tornado Safety Guides (http://wikitravel.org/en/Tornado_safety)

Being Homosexual may draw strong criticisim. Attacks are rare but bigoted comments are not. Please becareful if you are with your partner. (Note: The 65th Line does not apply to short term visitors)

Many shiplines will offer to pay you to sail. Use caution before joining a voyage that is willing to pay. These are quite often struggling cruise lines with rookie captains. It may be common amongst locals but this is because of lose of crops and unpaid debts. Always throughly check a paying ship line before you take the the roughest seas in the world. Some are also outright scams

Cope:

Drugs, alchol and tobbaco are banned. Cellphones aren't likely to work with the absence of recivers and electricity. Hotsprings are clothing free and is one of the few times Kuronans can let it all hang out. If you are a gay or lesbian couple staying more than 90 days you will fall under the laws of homosexuality in Kurona. That means you will be prohibted in the east past the 65th Line. If staying longer than 90 days you must move BEFORE 90 days are up, if you are to remain a couple in the country.

People in private often like to let lose with clothing, especially in the rural areas. It isn't uncommon for women to sleep in their underwear as well as men. Some may even sleep completlye nude. Understand this is seldom an attempt of a sexual advancment it's just a personal prefrense of comfort.

Stormy weather is common you can be stuck inside for hours or days. It isn't uncommon for a storm to strike in the middle of the night either.

Stay Healthy:
Hospitals aren't short of modern equpiment. However this makes health care pricey. Foreingers can apply for temporary medical evacuation coverage which will reduce greatly bills. Many walk-in clinics are around that will accept you for no charge.

Doctors will make house calls but usually to residence before visitors. In this case some doctors may not even see you that day. Don't always depend on house call unless you are bed ridden. If you are in need of urgent care get someone to take you to the hospital don't call for a doctor.

Take only what meds you need and have a recipt of your prescription with you. Having too many meds with out a special med-need licence can get you busted for drug possesion.

Respect:
Kurona's may not have a lot of modern convinences but they are not simple bumpkins. People are smart, educated and many do know that these marvels exist.

Do not trample through a farm feild.

Although Kuronans are welcoming and don't often lock doors it's very impolite to simply walk in anyone's house. Even if the door is open never walk in. Always knock and ask to enter. Don't join a party or table with out asking. Please respect and understand if you are refused.

Remember Kurona is a very conservative and religious nation. Even the Princess her self is very devout in her belifes. Respect the religious belifes of others, especially on very taboo topics. Modest dress is slightly prefered, but is not offensive.

People in private often like to let lose with clothing, especially in the rural areas. It isn't uncommon for women to sleep in their underwear as well as men. Some may even sleep completlye nude. Just understand and be repsectable and pay it no mind.

Astraphobia-A fear of thunder and lighting is common amongst young girls. It's very insulting to make fun of this fear. If it is a young kid it's insulting and rude to make fun of them if they chose to sleep with their parents.

GarLyynshire

General Informarmation:
A small, land-locked, Scandinavian nation. Consists of one big city (the capital--Yytr) that extends from the far north and down along the east side of the country to the southern tip. 11 smaller cities make up the remainder of the nation.

Regions:
Pohjoinen - The northern section of GarLyynshire, though it begins further up rather than directly in the middle of the country. Blanketed in lush, green landscapes--rolling hills, abundant forests and many a swamp dotted with gorgeous cypress trees. Ironically, it is the region of lesser reputation with a higher crime and poverty rate.

Etelä - The southern section of GarLyynshire. Larger than the northern section and less appealing to the eye with more of a country setting and even desert-like further south. More preferrable living conditions than the pohjoinen.

Cities:
Yytr - Capital and largest city, and the only city located in both the pohjoinen and etelä.

Understand:
GarLyysnhire evolved from opposition to neighboring Anglo-Saxon nation Ildragoth. During the 19th century, Ildragoth was a horrificly conservative country, consistently brainwashing its inhabitants into thinking the government acknowledges all men as created equally when in reality, you only had equal rights if you were an old, rich white Christian man.

November 1833 saw a civil war between the conservatives and the liberals of Ildragoth with victory being granted to the liberals after a grizzly, 3-month-long battle that ended with the nation's king, Sir Beorge Gush II, surrendering and all-the-while having the liberals ejected and banned from their nation. It is here that said liberals banded together and formed the Democratic States of GarLyynshire.

Today, GarLyynshire is a thriving nation, complete with a booming economy, civil rights for all and a general well-being.

Get In:
As GarLyynshire is land-locked it may be entered from any possible entrance by train or plane only.

Get around:
Cars have been outlawed as of 1903. Primary transportation is by foot, although there are bicycles, busses, trains and planes at your disposal.

Talk:
The official language of GarLyynshire is Finnish, spoken by 94% of the population. 5% speak Swedish and the remaining 1% speak "other," mainly English. Although Finnish is the official language, some of the more modern words in the country have been "westernized." The name of the country GarLyynshire is pronounced as "GarLyynshair" would be in Finnish, and the city of Ije as "Aije."

See:
In the pohjoinen, one can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, once again from the rolling hills to the mesmerizing and seemingly endless swamps. Architecture thrives in GarLyynshire with most buildings actually being fashioned more or less after Japanese houses, primarily in the pohjoinen. The majority of buildings across the nation resemble pagodas.

Do:
GarLyynshairians enjoy tennis, badminton and other "soft" sports. "Hard" sports such as North American football, basketball, hockey etc. are extremely uncommon and generally frowned upon by the community.
Other than working and playing sports, the population enjoys cinemas, malls, and other recreational areas.

Buy:
The nation's national currency is the kyyk (∮), small plastic coins fashioned in different colours to resemble different prices. For example, a red kyyk is ∮10 and a prussian blue kyyk is ∮85. There are 37 different colours of the kyyk and follow more random numbers than expected (ex. instead of the US $10, $20, $50 etc. you have the GarLyynshairian ∮44, ∮85, ∮101 etc. which generally makes for a confusing (albeit booming) economic system).

Though anything one would need can be bought within the nation, tourists usually prefer spending kyyks on GarLyynshairian art and food, the most popular of the two being very expensive blue diamonds (known as kekälet ylypeysiltat .. literally embers of pride; my finnish is bad, forgive if that's wrong!) fashioned to resemble flames with a swirl of red colouring forever frozen in the middle of the piece--an odd symbol of GarLyynshire's independence--and then the synti, an eccentric dish of latkes, flambéd bananas, and crushed walnuts.

Eat:
Obesity and general overweightness are strictly prohibited in GarLyynshire. Overweight people are imprisoned and starved until they are of acceptable weight AND appearance before being set free again. Overweight children are removed from their parents' custody.
The foods themselves may not contain more than 15 carbs per serving, more than 4g of fat per serving, or more than 150 calories per serving. Added sugar is prohibited. Producing and distributing foods that do not follow these guidelines (even if the meal is only for your family or even just for yourself) is punishable by at the minimum, a large fine, and at the maximum, imprisonment.
The consumption of meat is strictly prohibited. Consequences for eating fatty foods also applies to eating meat. However unlike with fatty foods, repeated eating of meat can result in deportation.
The synti mentioned above, although popular with tourists, is not a favourite among the natives. Italian food is mostly consumed. Bread and pasta are a necessity in every family. Fruits are consumed more than vegetables. Dessert is rarely consumed.

Drink:
Alcohol is available to be purchase by everyone of age 16 and up. Public drunkeness is prohibited. Those of the ages 14 and 15 may drink alcohol in bars if accompanied by a parent. Taking alcohol home and feeding it to a 14 or 15-year-old is prohibited as the amount consumed cannot be observed by anyone besides the parent, guardian, etc.
Other than alcohol, GarLyynshairians enjoy a lot of iced, sweet tea. Non-diet soft drinks are prohibited.

Sleep:
Hotels are available to be rented by anyone ages 15 and up. Maximum stay is 2 weeks. These are found only in Yytr. Motels mainly dot the pohjoinen and the age and stay limits apply to these as well. B&B's are found in the etelä.
GarLyynshairians themselves don't sleep much. One needs no more than 3-4 hours of sleep to take on the rest of the day. The average resting hours are from 2AM-6AM.

Learn:
Private schools are non-existant. Students attend the school in their district no matter what, unless their average from the year prior is of 85 or higher, at which said students may be relocated to magnet schools of their choices. These schools possess the right to remove a student the instant they fail any class.
6 universities exist within the nation, the most popular of which is the Yliopistoltä Kirkinyy'iltä, the University of Kirkinyy'i, located in Yytr.

Work:
The most popular jobs at the moment among older people are doctors, teachers, and farmers. Younger people usually take jobs as cashiers, waiters, etc. Foreigners (especially those with poor Finnish) have an extremely hard time finding jobs and result to jobs involving little to no human contact, such as working in storerooms.
Pay is lower than one would usually expect. Minimum wage is ∮0.22/hr, although everything in GarLyynshire is about 70% less expensive than what one would find in the US or the UK.

Stay Safe:
Crime is sadly very high in the pohjoinen. With a shortage of a strong police force, most "small" cases (ie. those lower than murder) don't usually get solved quickly, or at all for that matter. In the etelä, one can literally leave their door open all night. Crime is exceptionally low, with the majority of it surrounding pickpockets and the like.
As GarLyynshire is a nation of liberals, prejudice and bigotry is very rare. One is not discriminated against or stereotyped to hell because of skin colour, sexual orientation, gender, ethnic background, or anything like that. Fat people are seen as vermin by the majority, however, and are shunned and shown no remorse as they sit in their prison cells.

Cope:
Drugs are legal for both medical and recreational purposes, though the latter is somewhat regulated. Taking so much to the point where you endanger yourselves or others can and will result in imprisonment.
Cars are outlawed. People travel by foot, bus, bicycle, train, or plane.
Smoking is outlawed.
Hunting is outlawed, and viewed the same as murder.
As stated before, fatty foods and meat are outlawed.
Gay marriage has always been and always will be legal.
Polygamy is legal.
Pedophilia is viewed differently. A 15-year-old dating a 21-year-old is neither seen as "sick" nor is it prohibited. A 40-year-old molesting a 3-year-old however is a totally different story. It always depends on whether or not the "victim" is old enough to consent.
Freedom of expression and religion exist.
Abortion is legal.

Stay Healthy:
There are no drug scams. Drugs that do nothing for symptoms such as migraines are not manufactured and shoved down your throats with advertisements all over the place. Instead, scientists work hard at finding natural methods of curing diseases and symptoms and share their findings with the public.
Other than that, exercise and sports are common among the population, and that along with the ban on fatty foods leads to generally healthy people.

Respect:
Once again, there is no bigotry.

( haha that was fun :P )

What is the "Costs" section used for?

OOC: How much it costs to live in the country, I would suppose, in regards to the exchange rates, sales tax, overall costs of services and accomodations compared to other countries, etc.
