Florida gains independence, bright socialist future ahead, say residents

MIAMI - Florida declared independence today, June 24th, as the People's Republic of Socialist Florida after a socialist revolution, led by millions of Floridians, swept across the peninsula the past several months. The new gov't is said to be in the form of direct democracy. Florida has adopted a new constitution, guaranteeing rights for all regardless of gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Gustavo José Martinez, leader of the Socialist Party of Florida, was elected by popular vote as the new Diplomatic Representative, an office created to represent the democratic socialist society that Florida has now become. Jacques Boulanger, a Haitian-Floridian civil rights activist, will be Vice Diplomatic Representative. Florida is currently undergoing a petition to join the United Nations and is searching for left-wing allies to establish relations with.

Dear Mr. Martinez,
We wish to know if you will take the path of Cuba, North Korea, USSR, and China which abuses the idea of communism. We are a liberal captialist nation that believes the economy should be fair to all.

+++A single Gejigradian SkyEye satellite dipped lower in the atmosphere, aligning itself into a geosynchronous orbit over the former state of Florida. Socialism was a good thing, indeed, but no one in the Octagon knew what the response of the United States would be, nor what kind of government would be installed after the first few months. For the moment, the PCG would simply watch.

To Wolfgang Lichtenburg,

The People's Republic of Socialist Florida is a democratic society, and we criticize the totalitarianism of Cuba, North Korea, the USSR, and China. We do not believe those countries are true communist / socialist countries.

(OOC: What is a "post-modern tech nation"? I'm interested in establishing relations with left-wing countries, is your country left-wing? If post-modern means futuristic I don't mind if your country takes place in the future. So yes, you can interact with my nation, but if you want to establish alliances or close diplomatic relations I'd prefer if you were left-wing)

Sovereign Columbia (an independent British Columbia) welcomes you to the international stage, Socialist Florida. Perhaps we can have diplomatic relations between our nations? Trade can be established too if you would like. We can discuss issues like these if you would like.

Welcome to the World, Socialist Florida!

PMT or Post Modern is a tech level that is slightly above MT.

Postmodern Tech is a halfway point between Future Tech and Modern Tech. In Postmodern Tech, societies and technologies are much like their real world equivalents, but there can be some bending of the rules. It is not related to postmodernism.

This nametag is contestable, allowing roughly up until the invention of FTL travel, Teleportation, or other "rule-breaking" technology. This makes it a fickle category, but one that is popular on the forums as it allows creativity while still reining in the temptation to construct armadas of starships. Many technologies which are fairly common in NS tend to be postmodern in nature, such as the use of holographic communication between national leaders (instead of the use telephones) as a plot device and entirely digital currencies.

Weapons used in space combat roleplayed in these eras tend to include such categories as early particle beam weapons, kinetic weapons (especially mass drivers and reaction-driven missiles), and electromagnetic weapons (lasers). The concept of defensive energy "shielding" also tends to take a back-row seat compared to Future Tech capabilities

Welcome fellow direct democracy! We are a libertarian nation (Free market) but are glad to find another nation that has thrown off the corrupt system of representative democracy in favor of letting the people govern themselves. It is our sincere hope that our nations will become close allies both politically and militarily. If you should need any supplies, simply ask and we will try to provide them. Good luck, and welcome to the world stage! :D

(Basically, we are very liberal on the human rights side of things, and believe in maximum political freedom. (Hence direct democracy.) However we believe that finances fall under the category of rights, and that a moneyless system isn't likely to work. The main reason we are able to look past that is because you are a direct democracy.)

Dear Mr. Martinez,

The Secular Empire of Maraque would love to establish diplomatic relations with your nation.

We fully recognize your independence and hope you have a lively and prosperous future.

In our first order of business I have reserved a space in our capital, Super City. I would like to also place a Maraquean embassy within your nation if that is acceptable.

Secondly, I would like to offer your nation a sum of $300 billion in annual monetary aid, so you can use it to better your nations shortcomings.

Sincerely,
Empress Siv P. Norris
