Von Neumann Probes

This is the nation of Von Neumann Probes.
History: In the year 2070, the First Commonalitarianism of Man released a series of self replicating AI probes to measure the galaxy. These were designed to move to a new system then self- replicate two additional probes which would go on to the next system and do the same. They were watchers which fed information to the Commonalitarianism science and exploration network. The probes being sent out became more complex. Then through accident or design, after many replications and a couple hundred years, some of the probes became sentient, and began to discuss philosophy, science, and literature through their interconnected ansible network. With the time passing, errors began to creep into the programs, creating unique personalities, and different varieties of replicated probe throughout the galaxy.
Also some aliens had encountered some of the probes and being machine life, they decided to tamper with the probes making some of them more intelligent than before. It was their business to uplift these poor misguided beings to higher intelligence.
There was still a common goal uniting them to send information to the Final Encyclopedia or provide information to the scout network of the Commonalitarianism.
However, there were now too many of the probes to monitor anymore in over a million different systems, they were like self-replicating rats, everywhere and seeking to go even further. A few even slipped through networks to other galaxies.
There were a bewildering variety of them, some had even changed so much they were no longer recognizable as probes, but wandering rogue AI intelligences whose goal was to collect information and send it to their now mythic creators... Mostly philosophical and harmless many races began to see them as a kind of intergalactic wandering pest or amusing diversion.
