Ministry of War:

Desired manpower for 1896 (including officers and enlisted, the total will be added to the standing military each June):

Army: 105,000
Navy: 33,000 (10,000 Marines).

Standing Military:

Army: 95,000 men.
Equipment:
-Mauser M1895 rifles.
-Vickers machine-guns: 1 per company (160 men).

30,000 Vickers machine-guns have been ordered and shall be delivered at the rate of 2,500 per month, beginning in January of 1896.

Navy:

-4 Battleships: Brasil (1864), Lima Barros (1865), Riachuelo (1883), Aquidaban (1885).
-3 Cruisers: Almirante Tamandaré (1890), Benjamin Constant (1892 - used for training, but it has the size and the armament of a cruiser), República (1892).
-5 Wooden Sloops and Corvettes: Nichtheroy (Corvette - 1862), Trajano (Sloop - ?), Guanabara (Corvette - 1877), Parahyba (Sloop - 1878), Primeiro de Março (Sloop - 1881).

-7,500 Marines, equiped with the same rifles and machine-guns as the Army.

4 Brandenburg class battleships have been ordered and shall be delivered at the rate of 1 per 9 months, with the first one scheduled to September of 1896.
