I thought it would be cool to have an RP were Quebec separates, violently.

There is a new referendum, and the separatists win by 60%, after some scandal in the goverment or something. Then the aboriginals (who were blocaded so they could nto pull the stunts they did in the last one, i.e. montreal bridge) fight against the police and military forces. Not all military equipment has been re-deployed, due to the fact that many base commanders were sympathetic with the separatists.
Quebec moves its new military to crush the Indian rebellions, and the Quebec Franc does not do as bad as it was assumed in the worldwide economy. Quebec maintains itself economically, and soon has embassies in the major powers.



We will need:

Quebec (prbly me)
Rest of Canada
Aboriginals

And some other nations
USA, France, stuff like that

Sooo, anyone got any ideas?

The natives and communities where support for separation was low would be demanding to stay in Canada. Boarder negotiations would be the order of the day to provide for that.

Attempts by Quebec to resolve their dissident situation with military force would only result in the Canadian military moving in to protect it's citizens. Quebec forces can probably expect high desertion rates if people start dying(this being after the desertions in the immediate wake of seperation, assuming those in pre-existing units aren't allowed to volentarily leave Quebec/the military).

I can't see the Quebec government surviving unless they back down quickly, befor very many people are killed. Even if they're not stupid enough to start a war, the public backlash will kill them, and possibly the whole independence movement.

but what I'm saying, is that the goverment seriously fucks up Quebec, horribly, like the Sponsorship Scandal, all in Quebec, and ten times bigger. Separtist feelings skyrocket, and you get this.

It would still happen(tho the most likely response would be the government quickly collapsing and being forced to call an election - they'd be hemorrhaging MPs trying to distance themselves from the scandal, to say the least).

Alot of people would want to stay in Canada, regardless, and using the military to crush them would necessarily provoke a military response from Canada - they simply could not possibly ignore it(and Quebec would be stomped flat if it didn't back down). Furthermore, the resulting body bags will make the Quebec government look like authoritarian fascists to everyone outside the extremists, even before a military conflict could happen.


Of course, a referendum does not a country make, and it would be anywhere from months to years before Quebec would be in a position to assert it's independence in a meaningful way.



Anywho, it's not like NS isn't host to the implausible, so I'll quit with the sidetracking.

Realistic or not, I'm up for it.

If I may, I'd like to play some mafia-esque or maybe evil corporation thingy. If we want to go completely nuts, my organization could smuggle nuclear material to Quebec (farfetched, I know, but what the hell)

Like the first guy said... not likely but hell its your baby.

Nuclear material already is in Quebec... check the hospitals, research universities and Nuclear Reactors. Nuclear Weapons-grade stuff would be interesting. Still people seem to fixate on Nukes or worse Biologicals <shrug> Side tracked.
