New Capital Ship line introduced (FT)

Today is a glorious day indeed for the Interstellar Reich. After nearly four years in production, four ships of a brand-new class have been launched from port, and are currently ready for deployment around the Milky Way. Since we are generous, and will be exporting this model, here are the specification's:

Ghost-class Decimatoars

Type: Capital Ship

Length: 780 Meters

Manufacturer: Government-owned shipyards.

Hull: Extremely Heavy Durasteel plating that has been reinforced several times.

Shields: Several high-endurance energy shields.

Escape Pods: 110

Crew: 20,000

Shock Troop Count: 5,500

Armaments:
-100 Heavy MAC turrets

-100 Dual Turbolasers

-20 Anti-ship Tungsten Dart Launchers

-200 Quad Lasers

-60 Longbow Nuclear anti-ship missiles

-100 Ion Cannons

-30 Space Mine Launchers. Mines are magnetic and heat-seeking.

Special Systems:
-Hangar: Capable of holding over a dozen squadrons of fighters.

-Long Range Communication and Sensor Relays. This system is designed to jam or scramble enemy sensors, allowing the ship a good deal of stealth despite its gargantuan size, as well as to tap into enemy communication lines.

-As such for such a large ship, it is virtually self-sufficient. It has its own: medical wing; training facilities; kitchen; berths; mechanics and replacement parts for repairs; and the capabilities of carrying an army far larger than its mere 5,500 shock troops. There is little reason why the ship ever has to come to port, other than for refueling and the like.

-Numerous Tractor Beams

-Self-Destruct Mechanism

Well, it kinda...blows it self up in a nuclear explosion equal to 30 kilotons of TNT.

What are ' high endurance shields'? How long can they last under a broadside from the Exexutor's turbo lasers(2500 turbolasers)?

They are energy shields, and against that, they would last about six or so minutes. ;_;

did you do the graphics?

I like the way the main weapons are intergrated into the hull design.
It looks like it was designed around the primary cannons...like the warthog tank killers.

30 kilo tons is not very much energy in the mid-FT world.

If you are sticking with mass drivers, I deduce that you would either prefer more "realistic" physics or are RPing a younger FT nation. Many FT seem to emphasis beam tech. It is interesting that you are using Kinetic rounds. That should be a hole that many peoples tech does not fully address.

The following tactic is used by several FT nations [including mine when forced into a corner.]

For your missiles, depending on how much you want to stick to "hard physics" have you thought about FTL missiles? They would "blink" at targets reaquire them and then seek them out. It would cut the battle's lead times by several minutes.

My biggest concern is
-100 Heavy MAC turrets

these MAC are usually found only on large orbitals or ground facilities, because they are usually BIG and eat up HUGE amounts of ENERGY. 100 is overkill.

That's what an ion cannon is. I'm using mixed tech here(Railguns combined with plasma and laser weapons). And the MAC guns are heavy for a ship. The MAC guns meant for space stations and the like are still a lot larger.

[ Take out the ion cannons and replace them with lasers, or something. They eat up way too much power, and are sublight energy weapons, which limits their tactical range more than conventional ones, like lasers. I won't comment on the turbolasers. ._.

And you only need about forty-sixty MACs, I think.

Well you could have all of this stuff I suppose but you would probably blow up if you fired all of them at once eh? Ion cannons [shrug] ok keep them but perhaps tone down on some of the others?

Or have varients that have essentially the same chasis and utilze different main weapons... the MAC guns are basically Guass cannons. etc... <shrug> just my opinion. Like I said it aint bad.
