ok the problem with NS is that this world has nation with populations the size of earth's with so many nations and all have atleast US grade oil consumption. were is all this oil coming from? this world should have used up its oil reserves a long time ago. how do you explain this?

This is why I love running stuff off hydrogen. Although you can also extract oil from organic matter. I can't remember what the process is called, but some n00b was using it a few months back to turn Australia into a military-industrial complex capable of dominating the entire world and setting up colonies in Africa.

Appearently the world is a lot bigger. And plenty of it seems to be unexplored or at least ever-changing, as new countries pop up continually. Remember, if you increased the dimensions of Earth even a tiny fraction.. there would be a LOT more space, and room for more resources. If Jupiter had oil .. heh. There'd be enough there to last millions of years even for NS populations.

Umm... its because people from the Future Technology nations find planets made from complete oil. They then travel back in time, and constantly pump this oil into our oceans and our land (completely unbeknown to us). Well yeah, its cause of something like that...

Although while on the subject of ranting. You do realize that because of all the wars with all the machines and everything and all the pollution coming from the nations, humans would be dead. The only animal to survive would be the slater... or something smaller.

It's one of those things you really don't need to think too much about.

oh, if we're using the "REAL WORLD" then none of these NS natiosn would exsist

the NS world is ever-expanding, and everyone has plentiful acces to resources, as anyone can RP the find of anything

Uh, if we were using real world resources I think the concern wouldn't be where does the oil come from, I think it would be where the hell are you fitting everybody?.

NS also features two-mile long SuperDreadnoughts and SuperTanks the size of London, and you rant about this?

Actually, 2 miles is 3600~km, that's twice what we've got atm :P

You can't really run industrial machines off of hydrogen, though. For civilian uses, its fine, but you still need diesel/kerosene/gasoline for your army.

EDIT: @Maccabees: I, for one, use orbital habitats. The PRoG also has a lunar base and a colony on Mars. :3

Some nations, like my own, live on other worlds, and get much of our resources from other worlds. Other nations use alternative energy, and still other nations are at a 3rd world level, or even Past Tech, so they don't use as much as a modern 1st world power. Plus the NS planet is clearly much larger than Earth.

if we worried about Oil as much as we do in real life, then wars would be very slow and boring, I for one, who field vast armies would be stopping every 20 minutes to refill my vast tank legions, it is essential for the running of an army, but I suppose most people take for granted the fuel consumption of their vehicles and assume that its done in the background, I notice that logistics only come into play if the RP so desires to include it, or supply lines are attacked, which will warrent the necessary RP'ing of low fuel and ammunition...

Think about it man, so long as there are people existing in the RL world there will be people joining up and because there are no limits as to the amounts of puppets a person can have there is a virtually infinite amount of space on the NS Earth, this'll proportionally increase the amount of resources to near infinite (which ironically leads to the problem of materials losing their wealth due to the commoness of them) so Oil should never be a problem.

my take on this is that each player essentially has their "own " Earth... think Sliders and multidemensional Earths all stacked together. It just so happens every time a "new nation" is born that a new Earth is made.

Thanks to the FT space aliens guys that are constantly merging realities in cyberspace... There is technically an unlimited supply of oil...
<shrug> There are holes in this fuzzy logic.

:D Still it is as good as making jupiter sized earths.

My nation uses a special machine that uses intense heat and pressure to convert the bodies of POWs, criminals, dissidents, and undesirable people into oil. We also use this technology to power our spaceships and harvest any aliens we come across for fuel.

Technically there is a theory that says that Oil isn't a fossil fuel but a natural byproduct of excess carbon in the earth's mantle turning into hydrocarbons and their relatively light mass sends them upward toward the crust. Bacteria living deep in the earth are consumed by this hydrocarbon flow and die leaving the 'biomarkers' found in Oil. Under that theory, oil is theoritically limitless, it will continue to flow until the earth's hot gooey inside runs out of carbon. The reason this theory appeared is that oil fields tend to pop up in places that shouldn't have supported enough life to create such an oil field, or oil fields refilling themselves after a while.

Then there is thermal deploymerization, and computerized engines that regulate the amount of fuel they use. My main battle tank the AVT-80G actually uses a diesal engine instead of a gas turbine to reduce fuel load. And a mobile Thermal Deploymerization machine turns the waste we leave behind into diesel to power the movement. My military will literally secure wastedumps and start processing them.

Neat trick really.

Considering my empire spans over 1.1 billion square miles (290 million square miles of which is land), I think I have enough oil. :p

NS-Earth is infinite, a nation could be any size, with as much or as little resources as we please.

I am "borrowing" it... lol.
