Operation: Helot [Earth II only]

From The Great Burn, Page 6:
30 million helots were pulled from their work and brought to the rebuilt capital of New Sparta. There they were addressed by the kings. They would be fighting Doomingsland.
The regular Spartan army began training the helots for war. Each helot received one week of training. This training wasn't much. They learned to maintain ranks and fight as a unit, to follow orders, to handle weapons, and would get some target practice and physical exercise.
Once their week of training was complete, they would be assigned to a 10,000 strong unit. The chain of command was simple, there were three ranks: private, captain, and general. The privates followed the captains' orders, the general commanded the unit.
Nor was much attention paid to their equipment: each helot received one AK-47 with four clips of ammo, one Beretta M9 pistol with three clips of ammo, two hand grenades, a knife, a flare, a radio, a flashlight, a bulletproof vest, three days' rations and water, and a first aid kit. That was it. Once they were trained and equipped, they were sent near the Doomingsland border to await the order to attack.
OOC:For a long time Sparta had been looking for new lands. Finally, they had found them.
IC: Generals Menelaus and Patroklos. king Hektor began. The build up of Helots near Doomingsland shall no longer be stalled. We had to stop when they finished the war with Nepal because their army was no longer distracted. Now they are at war with almost all Pacifanesia, and their army is once more away. We will now be able to take what Doomingsland has in the Caucasus.
The deal made with the helots was this. All the Helots that fought and survived would become Parioikoi. This got even more Helots to sneak into the ranks, all the better for Sparta.

OOC:Well, technically I never actualy withdrew the forces already at the border, since they're basicly permenantly there as counter-invasion troops...
IC:
A telegram was immediately dispatched to the Spartan government:
Official Imperial Communique
We have shown no hostile intent towards yourselves or your people. Your mobilization along the border is positively unwarranted. We demand that said forces immediately be withdrawn. We are giving you a three hour deadline to begin pulling troops out. If this deadline is not met, than a state of war shall exist between the Imperium Doomanum and Sparta. Do not take this lightly, for the sake of your people and that of yourselves.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the initial demands to the Spartan government sent, Imperial troops within Rusium began to mobilize. Imperial Guard units were activated and shuttled to defensive positions along the Spartan border in preparation for what was certain to be a bloody conflict. Behind the initial lines of defense set up by the more poorly equipped (but fanatically motivated, none the less) Guardsmen were eight armored and mechanized legions, positioned as reserves to the line that was certain to be broken after enough pressure by enemy forces.
Patrols by Corvus attack helicopters along the border were stepped up, and the Imperial Airforce increased its own presense in the sector, making sure that there would be no less than eighty attack aircraft patroling the border along the time, with the rest prepared to scramble at a moment's notice. Air superiority fighters and AWACS aircraft were already on highest alert, pulling 'round the clock sorties, simply waiting for the moment the Spartans would be dumb enough to pull the trigger.
Strategic forces were also placed on the highest alert, intermediate range ballistic missiles equipped with chemical payloads similar to those used on Neo-Babylon were ordered to commence fueling.
Worst of all for the Spartans, the 5th Strategic Bomber Force was ordered to launch. They would loiter until one of three things happened: The deadline was met and Spartan forces began to withdraw from the border, the deadine passed and the Spartans failed to commence withdrawal, or if the Spartans launched their attack early.

Telegram from The Dual Monarchy of Sparta Dominion to Doomingsland
The Dual Monarchy of Sparta Dominion is a sovereign nation that shall do what it wishes with its own armed forces. We shall make a counter-offer: surrender all millitary forces within your Caucasian territories and cede those territories to the Dual Monarchy of Sparta Dominion, with the promise that your soldiers will be treated honorably and that your people will be spared any harm.
The Spartans had detected a large amount of armor and aircraft on the Doomani border. It was decided that two out of every hundred helots would be pulled from their units and retrained and reequipped: one as an anti-tank specialist, and one as an anti-aircraft specialist. These troops would not be available for the intial waves, but would be ready to support the latter waves of helots.
In the meantime, in their hidden bases, the Spartiati, the true warriors of Sparta, were preparing for their own assault after the waves of helots had softened up the opposition. It was the Spartiati who received lifelong training; who had modern equipment; and would go into battle with air and armored support.
Meanwhile, in an act of defiance, the helots began to advance. Not past the border, but they still advanced noticably. Their would be battle today.
In the area formerly known as the city of Elista, now little more than a large military facility, the Cottish area command center was located. Well, sort of, if you count being four hundred meters below the ground. There, a massive facility with hyper-modern equipment and what-not. Kalmykia was a completely militarized part of the Realm, currently being used as a development area, weapons range, classified weapons arsenal and training area for the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and, to some extent, the Navy. The very small percentage of civilians in Kalmykia were either scientists, logistics personell or government officials. As such, the garrison of three hundred thousand soldiers, Marines and airmen were pretty much alone in Kalmykia. Well, the majority of the area. In the eastern areas, the radiation was still too high for anyone to remain there for more than short periods of time.
Anyway, in the operations center, the twenty-odd officers and NCOs were manning the various consoles and computer screens, watching with vigilance. Thus, it didn't take long for the Cots to detect the military actions that their close neighbors, the Spartans were making. Instantly, a flash message was sent to Oslo while the military readyness in Kalmykia was raised from BERSTAT-4 to BERSTAT-3. This meant that the already elevated readyness was raised even further. The many fighters preforming CAPs were supplemented by even more fighters. On the ground, the tens of thousands of kilometers of barbed wire and concrete barriers and millions of landmines were checked and prepared by the thousands of heavily soldiers in armored vehicles. Further back, tanks and other armored combat vehicles were further prepared while cruise missiles and various other surface to surface, surface to air and various other pieces of weaponry were prepared, just in case something went wrong and the Spartans or Doomingslandis or both decided to look to Kalmykia. It definately wouldn't be an easy taking if they tried...
Official Communique
"The Realm has detected the military activity at our neighbors in the south and west, and we have decided to increase our defensive readyness as a result. This is not, repeat not a hostile move. We are doing this to ensure that we aren't surprised by anyone. We wish to make it clear that we do not wish for hostilities to arise, but we will defend ourselves with all means necessary if we are attacked or otherwise provoked."

It was to early in the morning for this, and today was supposed to be his day off. Straightening and tightening his tie with one hand, he reached out and stuck his other hand into the elevator doors before they closed, brushing past the security personal posted there in his haste. Not that any attempted to stop him, everyone in the facility knew exactly who he was, as did everyone in Haven’s military. Commander in Chief Vicente Stokes was one of the most powerful men in Haven. At forty three, he was one of the youngest, if not the youngest, person to achieve his position, although in modern Haven the same could be said for a lot of people. He stumbled into his position by accident, after his predecessor and most of his subordinates died in the fighting, and then nuclear explosion, in New Haven in the Civil War. He had never planned to be where he was today, though he never complained when the job fell into his lap, and the pay raise that came with it. Today though, was one of those days he did regret getting the job, a day when he should have been sleeping in next to Marisol for another couple hours at least.
The elevator ride took a few minutes, going deep underground below New Haven. By the time the elevator reached his stop a few minutes later, Vicente had his uniform in place and smartly walked out of the elevator into the brightly lit corridor. Two soldiers sporting R-32 rifles clasped tightly by their sides quickly saluted when Vicente stepped out of the elevator. The sergeant commanding then roughly nodded, “Sir.” Vicente returned the nod, “Sergeant.” Then continued quickly but smartly down the corridor, he was already late and he knew it. He reached a pair of heavy set blast doors, their make and purpose somewhat hidden by a nice paint job, but their ugliness still somehow shone through. He quickly plugged in his I.D. code and waited until a green light shone, then his index finger shot out and onto a pad with a finger imprint on it. The doors slid open and Vicente walked into a small, fancy looking reception room. He crossed the room and opened up a pair of magnificent oak doors.
“Take your time Vinny.”
“Ya, ya, not everyone lives at his desk, I have a life on the outside.” A tall, tanned man leaned back in his chair and whistled at that rebuke. “Sit your ass down.” Chuckling, Vicente reached out and pulled a chair back from the long table which was already filled with people, everyone in a uniform of one sort or another. Vicente touched of the meeting, starting with a tired but somewhat upbeat voice, “So, why exactly is my ass in this place at eight in the morning…on my day off?”
The man who had originally heckled Vicente as he came in late rose up, “Well, it looks like war is about to erupt in the Caucases. The Spartans have mobilized and it is pretty clear that their aims aren’t peaceful and that they include Doomingsland. The Doomani’s issued an ultimatum, an extremely short ultimatum, one which the Spartans took no time in refuting, hell they issued their own ultimatum. The Doomani government has just asked us to participate in liquidating any Spartan presence in the Caucases(via IM) if the issue goes on to war.”
“Stupid, the Spartans are asking for it.” Vicente shook his head, it didn’t make any sense, what reason did the Spartans have for making a move like this, they were asking to be crushed. “OK, so what’s the military situation looking like?”
Still standing, General Ruy continued, “A very large Spartan army is currently advancing on Doomani territory, although for some reason they have not attempted to cross the border yet.”
Somebody further down the table took the time to interrupt Ruy, “How large of an army are we talking about?”
“Intial estimates say at least 27 million men, though the true number is in fact somewhere higher than that. With so many men packed into so small of an area its hard to get an exact count.” That got more than a few whistles and murmers out of the crowd. “From what we can tell, the majority, the GRAND majority of this army is comprised of poorly trained slaves forced to fight and promised some sort of limited freedom if they survive. They are very lightly armed, outdated AK-47’s, not much in the way of artillery or armored support and only limited air support from what we can see, basically light infantry, if they deserve even that much recognition.. Estimates as to available equipment in Sparta are detailed in your folders.” Ruy typed something in on his laptop and hit enter. A screen in the front of the room came to life showing satellite imagery of the Spartan army in the Caucases. “ I don’t know how they did it but they got almost 30 million men assembled in the tight confines of the Caucases, a place that was certainly not designed for such an army, or armies of any size greater than a couple of divisions really. From what we can tell the Spartans are trying to equip a more modern force and prepare some sort of air defense for their armies but that will take time, weeks at the minimum, more likely months if the Spartans want quality, though from what they’ve shown us so far, quality isn’t on the top of their minds.”
Vicente leaned back and though for a second, reviewing some pieces of information in the folder that had been sitting at his spot on the table. “Quantity has a quality of its own, and we can’t hope to deploy a fraction of the manpower in Chechnya that they have in the Caucases. We have to respect that, even if just barely. And Chechnya will become a prime target for them the second we act in Doomingsland defence. Before we commit to anything we must see to Chechnya’s defense, I will not have millions of Havenite’s turned into Helots or whatever the hell these Spartans call their slaves.”
Ruy typed away furiously at his laptop and called up deployments for Chechnya. What came up would have been impressive, but compared next to the massive numers the Spartans had assembled right next door, it was anything but. “Assuming all leaves are cancelled, a little over a hundred and fifty thousand combat troops, adding in “Cooks and Bakers” that number more than quadruples but that’s only in the event of an extreme scenario, in which case we’re probably screwed anyway. Air support, we’re fine, Chechnya is close enough to Haven to receive air support from us.”
“I can get three airborne divisions shipped north in two days, though they will lack heavy armaments, it adds more than a few rifles on the ground.” Major General Beatriz jumped in.
“Like Ruy said, air support is not going to be a problem, just give me targets and I’ll take them out.”
“Good, get your planes in the air now. The second the deadline passes for the Doomani ultimatum, flatten as much of Spartan Caucasia as you can, make it glow. I want to see Chechnya locked down and put on full alert, they are going to get swamped if the Spartans turn their attention that way. Give me a turkey shoot to remember.” Vicente stood up and brought his folder with him. There were still dozens more fine details that needed working out, but the most important parts had been finalized, Sparta and Haven were about to be in a state of war, and the blood of millions would soon turn the Caucases into the worlds largest graveyard.
10 miles outside of Grozny
Vicente wasn’t the only one who got himself rudely awakened to early in the morning. The loud, piercing siren that went off at Fort Plores was unwelcomed by everyone of the bases’ personnel. It cut through the thick walls of the various barracks housing members of the 39th infantry and to the various resting men and women inside. Captain Isidro bolted upwards smacking his forehead on the bunk above his. “Fuck! Sonofabitch, damnit.” A plethora of curses escaped Isidro’s tongue as he rubbed his bruised head. Then the meaning of the siren set in and a new line of curses rushed out. He threw on a pair of pants and shoved his feet into his boots before setting off for the door without even attempting to lace them. On the way out he grabbed his BDU and equipment and started up in a jog. On his way out he almost ran into his commanding officer, but managed to stop and salute, then quickly rattle off a question, “Sir, what the hell is going on?” The major almost laughed in Isidro’s face when he got a full look at him. In a wrinkled white undershirt, with his hair uncombed and flapping every which way and his pants unbuttoned, the belt hanging from the loops at Isidro’s side and the pants they were supposed to hold up already halfway down his ass. “First of all, get your fucking pants on.” Isidro tried to stammer off a quick, yes sir, but got cut off, “Well, to put it simple stupid, the Spartans have mobilized 30 million men and are marching on Doomingsland, I don’t think I need to tell you what our response is going to be.”
“You mean those slave drivers? We..”
“Captain! Watch your tongue…they’re dirty and soon to be dead slave drivers, get things right. But yes, they are soon to be enemies of Haven, all 30 million plus, and that’s just the initial waves. Captain I want you to gather your men at north bunker 3-0 and prepare to move out, we will have an officers meeting at 1300, and Captain, this is the real thing.”
The realization of what Isidro had been told didn’t set in until he had almost reached his designated rally point. 30 million men? He gathered his men at the bunker and told them what he knew, though he left out the number 30. Soon enough a truck pulled up carrying extra ammunition, everyone was getting three times the normal load out, they were going to need the extra rounds soon enough. Around them the entire base locked down, something that was happening all over Chechnya. The divisions IFV’s and APC’s heated up and went out to their various units preparing to pick them up and move them out.
Ordir airbase, Northern Haven
A similar siren rang out here to, hundreds of miles away, and got a similar result. Things weren’t as urgent as up in Chechnya, but they didn’t have to be, they had a bit of time.Ordir was one of dozens of airbases across Haven, storing dozens of aircraft in its underground protected hangers. Under artificial lighting, these underground aircraft were fueled up, and loaded up. Dozens of fighters and fighter bombers had weapons of war stored in their bellies and under their wings. Missiles and bombs alike were loaded on, all hidden away from the world, all conducted in the secrecy provided by meters of concrete, steel and soil above their heads. Until the pilots hopped in and taxied themselves on to one of the many elevators which carried them to the surface. Out of the tiny, surface bunkers that designated openings to the UPH’s came smaller F-133 air superiority fighters joined by multiple F/A-128 Rain fighter bombers. From other airbases heavy EB-9 Night Eagle bombers loaded up before forming up in the skies over north Haven. It took almost an hour for the various aircraft to get airborne and get into formation, but in the end it was worth it, and soon enough hundreds of aircraft would be making the trek north over allied Ottoman lands until they reached the Caucases, and by the time they got there, Haven would be at war.

OOC: Sorry, but had to comment here. I question the usefullness of human wave attacks in the modern battlefield. General Cluster Bomb, Indirect Fire, Armor and Chem weapons practically mean that human waves are mostly good for target practice in any modern, PMT or FT setting.
Also seeing as how the Helot units seem to lack a proper structure for Command & Control, issuing orders would be difficult at best, attempting any complicated maneuvers aside "Charge the enemy and kill them" would be pointless.

Three hours had past, and the forces of Doomingsland had not responded to the Spartan ultimatum. The 30-million strong helot host began to emarch at a furious pace, as their provisions would not last for more than a week away from base. The attack began at 2:00 in the morning, and it was still dark.
However, along with the massive helot army, small, elite strike teams of crypteia would creep across the border under the cover of darkness. The crypteia were the elite special forces of the Dual Monarchy. They had used to be employed terrorizing the helots at night, but now served as Special Forces units. The crypteia would avoid large-scale battles and carry out acts of sabotage against Doomani communication centers, supply depots, radar stations, air defenses, fuel stations, and artillery emplacements. They would also slash communications land-lines, tear up any railroad track they found, and ambush lone Doomani pickets.
The crypteia worked in squads of six, divided into fireteams of three. There were a total of five hundred squads, for a total of 3,000 men, all spaced far apart along the battlefront.

The orders had come in jsut 15 minutes ago. The 4th armoured, 5th infantry and the 3rd cavalry were to deploy along the Spartan border. They were to do so in a defensive manner. HQ did not belive that the Spartans would attack, but one can never be too safe.
In total, the forces comprised some 60,000 men. This force was accompanied by 200 tanks, and 300 APC's and IVF's. Most of the equipment was old, but it had been improved upon. For example, the old tanks now carried Explosive Reactive Armour. The units departed in the morning, and were in their possition by mid-afternoon. Other divisions were farther behind, in their usual deployment zones.

OOC:Now, ladies and gentlemen, the part you've all been waiting for...
IC:
Operation: Malleus Sanctus (Sacred Hammer)
The Spartan Government had just made the dumbest mistake they would ever make in their soon to be shortened lives. Not only had they refused to back down, but they insulted, no, dishonored the Imperium! By even making the mere suggestion that Doomanum hand over its Caucasian holdings to these infidels they destroyed virtualy any hope for peace.
This was blasphemy. And it was the duty of the Imperium Doomanum to seek out and cleanse blasphemers whereever they may be found.
In this case, the blasphemers in question happened to share a border with those seeking to slaughter them.
The decision to go to war had been essentialy made when the Spartans sent their own ultimatum to the Imperial Government, and so military units were already prepared to shoot the very second the deadline passed. And this they did.
With the Spartans lacking anything in the area of air defense around the Helots, massacreing every last one of them would be child's play. The opening barrages consisted of several hundred 305mm multiple rocket launch systems targetting any Spartan RADAR that actualy existed. RADAR would be located via satelite and their own RADAR emmisions.
Rather than waste valuable aircraft weaponry on enemy RADAR, land-based systems would be utilized. Everything was pre-detected before the ultimatum passed, and as soon as the clock hit 'zero', everything seemed to fire off at once.
With seconds, hundreds of heavy 305mm satelite guided rockets shot skyward towards their distant targets within Spartan territory. As those were fired off, twelve-hundred Imperial Guard 152mm howitzers within concealed bunkers sounded off along the border, firing at enemy troop concentrations at a rate of a shell going downrange every five or so seconds per gun.
Of course, these weren't conventional shells. No, that would be too kind for these barbarian scum. These shells were packed with aerosol VX nerve gas dispensers. With literally tens of thousands of chemical laced 152mm artillery shells raining down on their heads every minute, the Helots, who had no protection against chemical weapons, would most likely start dying by the millions at this stage.
Of course, that wasn't enough for the High Command. It was never enough. The three-hundred Malleus strategic bombers held in reserve were unleashed simultaniously to the artillery shells. These units, of course, were targetting the incoming hordes of Helots. Naturally, they carried a nasty little payload, in this case, 27,500kg of cluster munitions per bomber, making for a grand total of a little over eight-million two-hundred fifty thousand kilograms of cluster munitions dispensed over the advancing Helots. Virtually nothin was left untouched- whereever there was a Spartan, there were several baseball-sized bomblets going off, filling the air with razor-sharp high velocity shrapnel.
All of the terrain the enemy advanced across was simply covered by the bombs. The land would be scarred and pockmarked from the millions of small explosions for years to come.
The Spartan airforce- if it decided to show up -would be in an even wose position. With one-hundred fifty stealthy Aquila air superiority fighters in the air supported by multiple AWACS aircraft, they would be detected rather quickly and soon have thousands of missiles coming at them from both the air and ground-based surface-to-air missiles.
Immediately in support of the initial defensive line- which now seemed like it wouldn't even be scratched by the Helot advance -were two-hundred Corvus attack helicopters and eighty rugged ACI-12B close air support aircraft.
If any of the Helots somehow survived this onslaught and continued, they would find themselves stumbling through miles and miles of landmines (which were quite liberally placed to ensure maximum amount of casualties, also included were burried 203mm artillery shells tied to smaller mines to allow for the destruction of entire platoons at a time) and barbed wire. These were all covered by dug-in Imperial Guard units with high-powerd DR-78 rifles. While they were conscipts, the Imperial Guard prided itself on the superior marksmanship of its personel, hence its choice of the DR-78 battlerifle, firing a large 7.8x63mm round at nearly 3,000 feet per second. The average Guardsman could drop an enemy soldier at eight-hundred meters with his rifle, and the way the defenses were setup, there was little cover for the advancing enemy, and plenty of mines and barbed wire to slow them down to make them even more appetising targets.
That wasn't even taking into account the fact that the Guardsmen were well-entrenched in steel-reinforced concrete bunkers with full NBC filtration and steel shutters, allowing for a quick and easy retreat if needed, and providing the maximum amount of cover. The bunkers, which each contained a full squad of twelve Guardsmen (which included machineguns and a designated marksman with a scoped DRS-78 sniper rifle) were also well-concealed, meaning the Spartans would have a difficult time trying to find the people shooting at them.
Of course, also within the bunkers were heavy 105mm and 152mm howitzers and 7.8mm and 15.7mm machineguns. With such a wide open field of fire for all of these weapons, this human wave approach was surely doomed.
Local indirect fire support was also provided by batteries of 82mm and 120mm mortars, which would also drop flares to illuminate the area so that troops could accurately pick off the Helots, even at night.
Not only that, but the entire border was covered. Even if the Spartan special forces managed to avoid being bombed initialy, they would still have to somehow get by the lines of bunkers, minefields, and barbed wire. Even if they used the cover of night, the Guardsmen would be able to spot them with night vision and thermal imaging sensors.
The enemy could run but they couldn't hide.
Huahin condemns these acts of mass murder by Doomingsland.

It had already been known war was inevitable, talks with Doomani officials had seen to that, it was just a matter of time. The Spartans decided their fate when they made their move on Doomani territory, and then ignoring completely the mobilization occurring in Havenic Chechnya. From Chechnya Haven responded to the Spartan invasion minutes after Doomingslands’ guns began firing.
Radar sites began actively searching the skies over Spartan territory with airborne support in the form of five E-33 Watchman AWAC’s birds. They furiously searched for any Spartan aircraft, civilian or military in nature. SAM batteries and squadrons of F-133 Valkyrie fighters flying CAP over Chechnya linked in to the radar coverage granted them by the ground based radars and the AWAC’s birds and began launching at any Spartan targets they could find within 200 miles of Chechnya.
Four squadrons of F/A-128 Rain fighter bombers launched from airfields in Chechnya itself. Instead of heading towards the Spartans they headed up, up all the way towards space. If anyone was watching in Sparta, if they still had the ability to do so, or for that matter anyone else, they had to be wondering what the hell the Rain pilots were doing. Then the 36 Rain launched their payloads, 192 Icarus ASAT missiles shot upwards, each one targeted on a different Spartan satellite. Behind them, the Rain that had carried them so far dipped around and went home, while four more squadrons rose up to take on any surviving satellites.
Back on earth the armies guns loaded up. 480 175mm KAG-66 guns began firing into Sparta, blowing apart any troop concentrations that were spotted by real time satellite. Additional targeting data was provided by a host of UAV’s that began crossing over into Spartan lands hunting for targets. The KAG’s were loaded with a massive form of buckshot, beehive type rounds. The shells would explode meters above the Helot hordes and spray hundreds of tiny flechttes at high velocities that excelled in cutting through flesh. They focused more on any concentrations nearer Chechnya than near Doomingsland, it wasn’t expected much help would be needed there after the massive amount of VX dropped on the Helots.
1440 KAG-66 guns and 360 250mm KAR-45 rocket systems began unloading on the heavier targets. Military installations, airbases, command posts, vehicle parks, power plants, facilities housing further Helots or the more elite trained Spiarti, exc. A mixture of HE rounds, cluster munitions, thermobraic and the beehive flechette rounds were used. Certain batteries were told to hold on standby while the E-33 Watchmen loitering above searched for transmissions from Sparta, radio or other communication use. The sources of these transmissions, most likely a part of the chain of command, which wasn’t very prominent in Sparta, were targeted. The bombardment as a whole lasted for eight minutes, by which over a hundred thousand shells and thousands of rockets would have blasted Spartan territory. After that, fire would be relegated to a few batteries hitting any Spartan targets that might show themselves, such as a Spartan using the radio and being detected by one of the E-33 Watchmen, or a Spartan radar coming online.
In the air, the large flight of aircraft that flew up from Haven began crossing over into Spartan territory. The first across where eight squadrons of F/A-128 Rain fighter bombers, 96 planes in all. They fanned out in two and fours hunting for Spartan targets, their primary targets being any aspects of an air defense network the Spartans might have, radars, SAM’s, AA. In reality, their more likely targets seeing as how the Doomani’s had already plastered the air defense network with their artillery as had the Havenic guns, was likely to be any Spartan vehicles they could find on the road. Armor, APC’s and IFV’s, simple trucks, anything using Sparta’s roads, or even railroads, was a target for them.
Behind them came 336 EB-9 Night Eagle heavy bombers with 50,000 lbs of armaments escorted by 120 Valkyrie fighters, and another 156 Rain fighter bombers. They carried a variety of armaments, for the most part bombs as it wasn’t deemed worth wasting expensive missiles on a target that didn’t seem to have much better than AK-47’s. They ranged out over area’s of Spartan Caucasia that couldn’t be reached by the armies artillery from Chechnya. In place installations and military facilities like airfields, vehicles parks, barracks exc and parts of the Spartan infrastructure like power plants got plastered with HE and cluster munitions while troop concentrations and even major Spartan cities received a large load of cluster munitions and FAE to literally burn Sparta in the night.
In Chechnya, the 39, 40th, 43rd and 51st infantry divisions along with the 8th armored prepared to invade Dagestan as soon as results from the initial strikes came in. They gathered around Gudemas, a city that sat on the only major highway that flowed from Dagestan into Chechnya. The five divisions, about 90,000 combat troops and 1,000 tanks, comprised two thirds of the Havenic forces in Chechnya, but with most of the Spartans advancing on Doomingsland and most of the rest probably dead, not much of a threat was expected. Even so, three airborne divisions began airlifting in from Haven to help man the northern border should a Spartan attack come that way. Already there were three more infantry divisions, the 42nd, 45th and 53rd which were just now digging in. Not much existed in the way of prepared defensive positions as Haven for the most part believed more in a flexible defensive strategy, but that was only possible when you had land to fall back to, something Haven didn’t have in Chechnya. So the three divisions began expanding on what defenses already existed, digging in and establishing minefields in front of them as quickly as they could. They had plenty of support in the way of a little over a hundred Denel TVL88 helicopters and dozens of 120mm mortars. If the Spartans did attack and things got too heated, there was always the option of going the way Doom did. The Caucases were now well on their way to becoming a graveyard bigger than any in the world.
”General, dette er sjansen vår.” [General, this is our chance.] the Brigader said, hinting to the events taking place south of the border.
”Det var det Oslo sa og. Jeg har nettopp fått ordrer om å iverksette Operasjon Mjølner. Sett hjulene i gang.” [That’s what Oslo said too. I just got orders to initiate Operation Mjølner. Put the wheels in motion.] LtGen Gramstad replied, finishing his fifth cup of coffee.
”Ja vel general!” [Yes General!]
Half an hour later, the first of the B-6A Violator strategic bombers took off from one of the many airbases in Kalmykia, armed with new weapons. In all, some thirty-six Violators armed with twelve AGM.10-A Black Mamba air-launched cruise missiles each were sent in the wings with orders to attack Spartan targets within Dagestan. At exactly 02.30 in the evening, some 432 Black Mamba cruise missiles were fired against Spartan defense sites within the borders of Dagestan, hitting targets as far away as the border with Azerbadjan. In addition, some 1,000 MGM.6 Imsdal SCRAMjet cruise missiles were fired from mobile sites within Kalmykia. The Imsdals were of all kinds. The –A version armed with a 544-kilogram advanced unitary penetrator warhead were sent against areas such as command bunkers, radar sites and other such areas, while the –B version, armed with a powerful thermite incendiary cluster-munition payload were sent against airfields and large massing of troops. –C and –D versions, armed with a 544-kilogram blast fragmentation warhead filled with more than 58,000 10mm Depleted-Uranium spheres and a cluster warhead filled with 920 M74 APAM submunitions, respectively, were also sent against relatively large gatherings of troops along with a few –B missiles. Lastly, –E missiles were fired against radar and air defense sites. The W-100A EMP warhead was sure to take out quite a bit of the obsolete Spartan defenses.
Also taking into the skies were F-2A Abaddon air superiority fighters, F-41B Defender home defense fighters and F-63K Tengriy advanced air superiority fighters armed with many, many air to air missiles. AIM.1-A IRIS-T short-range missiles, AIM.3-A BVRAAM beyond-visual-range missiles and AIM.4-B Dødsengel extreme-range missiles were the mainstay of the fighters, being able to take out enemy aircraft in ranges ranging from less than 1 kilometer to as far away as 400 kilometers. Their orders were to take out whatever the enemy scrambled of aircraft as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, EF-177A Colduns and F-16G Super Falcons moved towards the border, armed with AGM.5-E AARGM Block IIB anti-radiation missiles. Their target: whatever remained of Spartan air defense sites. If a radar popped up on their threat indicator, the aircraft would fire at least two AARGMs at it while plotting it on the CATACNET (Cotttish Advanced TACtical NETwork) via two-way secured datalink. In the back, E-11A Ørneøye AWACS aircraft assisted in spotting enemy aircraft, assisted by ground-based radar sites which employed the Cottish Anti-Stealth System, an advanced version of the Australian OTH system at Alice Springs.
At the same time as the first cruise missiles started hitting their targets, some time around 02.33, the hundreds of self-propelled artillery at the border started firing their lethal 155mm and 203mm shells, assisted by the 220mm multiple-launch rockets fitted with lethal sub-munitions. Their targets were Spartan border defenses. Whatever existed of fixed defenses along the Kalmykia-Dagestan border were attacked with long-range artillery, both tubed and rocketry. If Spartan artillery returned fire, ACAAR Mk.IV anti-artillery radars would detect them and quickly triangulate the location before sending the coordinates to the MLRS systems up to sixty kilometres behind the Cottish lines. The whole process from detection ‘til return of fire would take no more than fifteen to thirty seconds, with the enemy artillery being hit by cluster-munitions a minute later, at most. The Cots meant business.
The first of the Cottish M39A1 Mekhev II next-generation battle tanks started rolling towards the border from their rally areas some twenty kilometres from the border at the same time that the artillery started opening up. They would be at the border in about half an hour, supported by scores of M11A2 Viking IFVs and many A-89C Hammer Block 20 close air support aircraft and F-16G Super Falcon multi-role fighters.

The Realm intends to annex Dagestan as a new addition to the Realm. We are in the early stages of sending troops into the area as we speak. We hope that this does not create any tensions between our respective nations. In return for our obtaining Dagestan, we are willing to open an additional front at Kalmykia, further stretching enemy forces and supply lines. We are also willing to offer assistance to Doomingslandi and Havenite forces, should they require this. We await your reply.

300 fighter-bombers of the Air Force flew into Spartan airspace. Above them, 100 fighters flew cover. The bombers hit border positions and enemy rear areas. A massive bombardment had befallen the spartan defences, and it was unlikely than any would survive.
If anyone did make it through the aerial phase of the bombardment, they were soon to be destroyed, as 1,500 light and heavy artillery pieces on the border opened fire, turning the close part of Sparta to Franberry into a wasteland. The firestorm that befell the area, was so strong, that it was probable that anything would be left.
The 4th armoured, 5th infantry and the 3rd cavalry poured over the border, in attack formation. On the flanks the 6th Motoriezed and the 7th infantry. And in the reserve and mop-up role, the 12th, 16th infantry and the 9th armour.

OOC: What's with all the gangbanging and WMDs? Anyway, I have no satellites to target, and my military structures are all underground after the disaster with Kreynoria. The only thing you'll hit are empty runways, since the planes are all underground, and radar sites.
IC: Never, not even in the Kreynorian-Spartan War, had Sparta seen such carnage. The helots were totally helpless against the enemy aircraft, and to them, it must have seemed like the world was coming to its fabled end. They choked upon the invisible assailant, were shredded by cluster munitions, and blew themselves up helplessly on land mines. Millions upon millions lay dead or dying. Fortunately for the crypteia, they were equipped with gas masks and were thus able to survive the deadly gas attacks.
The Spartan helots were now in an unenviable position. They couldn't retreat, they could not dare return to their masters for fear of harsh reprisals. They couldn't stay where they were, lest they continue to choke upon gas. And the only route of advance was into a strong defensive line.
Yet the helots were fighting for a cause greater than any in the world: freedom. The cause empowered them with the will to go on and seek revenge for their myriad fallen comrades.
The helot-captains and generals ordered the helots to form single-file columns to advance through the minefield, the leaders sacrificing themselves to allow the rest to pass through safely. The columns also threw grenades ahead of themselves, to hopefully set off any mines before they stepped on them.
Meanwhile, the Spartans prepared their secret weapon: thousands of news crews had been hidden among the helot forces, and they had been equipped with NBC protection. They filmed thousands of scenes of horror which would have made the Devil himself grimace in disgust. The films were broadcast onto virtually every major international news channel. They were also sent to the Johannesburg Courts, to reveal the heinous war crime of Imperium Doomanum.
The attacks on military structures throughout Sparta had not actually caused very much damage. Most of the runways at Spartan airbases had been damaged too badly to take off from, but the hangars were hidden underground and thus protected from assault. As soon as the attacks ceased, repair crews began to work at a feverish pace to restore the runways to working condition.
95% of Sparta's radar sites on the surface had been destroyed, but fortunately, there were more radars hidden underground along with Sparta's air defense network. The dormant network would now come to life.
Huge parts of the landscape lifted up, hinged on one side. This revealed Sparta's hidden air defense network. The hidden radars, anti-aircraft guns, and SAM batteries rose out the ground, and immediately began firing at hostile aircraft, many of which had already spent their missiles attacking exposed radar.
Along with the air defense sites, cruise missile launch platforms rose out of the ground, targeting Doomani defenses. Cruise missiles began to fire, two per second, and after every 30 seconds, the number fired per second doubled, until 30,000 cruise missiles carrying conventional high-explosive warheads were fired at the Doomani defensive line. The Spartans would play by the rules, and keep world opinion on their side.
~7.5 million helots dead
~13.5 million helots wounded
784 radar sites destroyed/damaged
60 runways destroyed/damaged

The 3,000 F-4 Osiris fighters and 1,500 B-2 Icarus bombers set out from Huahinian territory, splitting up into four groups.
500 Osiris fighters went to confront the Cottish raiders, 750 targeted Safehaven2's aircraft, 750 more went to pursue the Doomani aircraft within Spartan territory, and 800 Osiris fighters flew with the 1500 Icarus bombers to attack Doomingsland's defensive line.
In the meantime, the 500,000 troops borrowed from Huahin began marching to a rendezvous point to converge with Spartan armored units. The last group of 200 fighters flew over the borrowed troops, ready to defend them against any attack.
TOP SECRET IC
Crypteia units quietly smuggled the Davy Crockett tactical nuclear missile launchers across the Huahinian border, heading stealthily towards a hidden storage area near New Sparta.
The Spartan fighters were quickly intercepted by the Cottish air superiority fighters and home defense fighters, who engaged in long-range missile slugging against the incoming fighters. Dødsengels and BVRAAMs were used with great effect, both missiles being highly advanced and deadly designs. Moving at speeds in excess of Mach 5 and Mach 3.5, respectively, the missiles quickly intercepted the Spartan Osiris fighters, guided in from both the AWACS aircraft behind the Cottish lines and by the many radar stations on the ground. To further add to the carnage, the many Cottish air defense sites on the border were active and engaged any enemy aircraft entering their range. The longest-range missiles, the Cottish MIM.7-B Salt extreme-range surface-to-air missiles, a seriously modified and improved version of the Russian S-400 Triumf missile had a maximum range of four hundred kilometers and a maximum effective range of roughly two hundred and eighty kilometers. A serious amount of weaponry were aimed at the Spartan aircraft, weaponry that was tested and found to be usable.
Still, the Cots took quite a bit of casualties as the Spartans pressed on. A total of ninety-three Tengriys and fourteen Defenders were shot down while about a hundred other fighters of various types were forced to return to base with combat damage. Of the a hundred and seven fighters shot down, roughly sixty percent of the pilots managed to eject safely.
The Cots did have a ace up their sleeve though, in form of E-42B Phantom electronic warfare aircraft flying behind the fighters and in front of the AWACS, jamming the enemy frequencies and radars as best they could.
Further behind, more cruise missiles were fired against the newly erected Spartan defense sites and against any airbases in Sparta. Additional Imsdals and Black Mambas were fired against sites detected by the satellites, SIGINT stations and aircraft, and by the UAVs flying overhead, monitoring the situation. Soon, smaller FB-177A Barsuk fighterbombers would take to the skies and fly towards enemy areas, carrying massive amounts of smart bombs. B-7C Incubus strategic heavy bombers also took off, carrying relatively large payloads of so-called bunker buster bombs, bombs that could penetrate through the ground and detonate inside the Spartan command centers which had to be located underground. Dagestan would fall eventually. It was simply a matter of how much weaponry the Cots were willing to send into Dagestan.

Doomingsland used chemical weapons, he is entitled to respond with WMDs if he wishes. If he's smart, he uses low-yield ones that will only affect Doomingsland's territory.
IC: There is a saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Kreynoria had once fought a bloody war with Sparta Dominion. Relations had been rather rocky ever since. But now, Sparta and Kreynoria were both fighting Doomingsland, albeit separately. There wasn't much the Kreynorians could do to directly help the Spartans, since they were so isolated from the region. OOC: Huahin's territory is in Armenia and Georgia, right next door. The transfer took place after my purchase, and that was just Armenia.
Huahin, the troops are going to get some armor and air support before I send them against Doomingsland.
FYI Cotland, the command centers are buried under the cities. So unless you are willing to massacre hundreds of thousands of civilians along with the command posts, they aren't going to be hit.
IC: The waves of bombs and missiles, for want of military targets, had been diverted against Sparta's cities instead. The slaughter was akin to the destruction of the helot army, except that the civilians weren't even armed. At least one million civilians had been killed or injured in the attacks, and power had been knocked in much of the city. Fortunately, the generators for the city's important structures were located underground, with only exhaust vents and entrances at the surface. Thus, the command centers and the palace, the hospitals and the fire stations, and a few other key structures were able to maintain power.
News crews continued to busy themselves, filming the massacre, gathering evidence for the Johannesburg Court and any nations opposed to the slaughter of civilians.
The Osiris fighters that had come up against the Cottish aircraft and missiles were having a tough time: two hundred seventy-two fighters were either destroyed or damaged badly enough to be forced to land. Unfortunately, thanks to the ravaging of the nation's runways, many were further damaged on landing. They were quickly taxied to elevators that would hide them in subterranean hangars for repairs.
The Osiris fighters could maintain a speed of Mach 3.2, meaning they could almost outrun the Cottish BVRAAMs. With a bit of evasive maneuvering and some countermeasures, many of the BVRAAMs never struck their targets. The Dodsengels were a whole different matter: most of the Spartan air losses came from them and the Salt missiles.

OOC:Sparta, you just bought all those planes like an hour and a half before you used them, how could they possibly have been ready by then? It would take a decade to fill such a massive order realistically. And it takes quite some time to train pilots on new aircraft.
Defensive Line
The Helots obviously weren't very well educated in the ways of warfare. By lining themselves up in single-file columns, they would totally hault their own advance and get even more of their comrades killed. Imperial gunners smirked as they saw their pathetic foe line up to sacrifice themselves. They had to give them credit where it was due: They were brave. But this bravery was foolhardy and would needlessly sacrifice able-bodied men that otherwise could have been better used.
Now that the enemy was all lined up nice, the gunners on the DMG-157 heavy machineguns went to town. Their weapons, with a rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute firing a massive 15.7x131mm cartridge, would be able to shred through multiple targets at a time. Most likely they would be able to go through (killing and horribly maiming) about ten to twenty Helots at a time (each round), even with their kevlar vests.
With the enemy perfectly lined up, the gunners simply fired off short bursts of eight or so rounds. If the enemy kept advancing and moved up to where their fallen comrades were, they'd simply fire another burst to knock down the next line of men.
As this was going on, riflemen continued to hose down the Spartan infantry along with the lighter 7.8mm machineguns.
Meanwhile, wired transmissions from higher up the chain of command began to circulate, and the snipers had new targets assigned to them specifically. The cameramen and reporters had been declared enemies of the Imperium and had to be killed.
The snipers, staring down their infrared 10x magnification scopes, began to search for their targets. Locating reporters and cameramen wouldn't be hard. They had cameras and transmission equipment (they were ordered to take those out as well), and were the only Spartans with NBC equipment. Of course, if they saw ANYTHING with NBC equipment out there they would kill it. As a result, many of them ended up targetting the Spartan special operations soldiers, from ranges as far away as 1,200 meters.
Within minutes of receiving their new orders, they began sending rounds downrange towards their targets.
Finally, it was decided that enough was enough. The 152mm batteries adjusted fire, once again targetting what was left. Again they began to fire off VX rounds, one every five seconds, for eight minutes straight, making for well over 100,000 shells going downrange in that period of time. They pulled no punches, they targetted everything. They dropped rounds behind, in front of and on top of the Helots so that there would be no escape this time.
The Guardsmen, on the otherhand, already had their NBC gear, and so they continued to suppress the Helots.
This was not a battle. It was the largest mass-extermination the world had ever seen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fist of God Command Center, Somewhere in Italy
Within seconds of the Spartan's underground network begining to unfurl itself, the High Command knew about it. Satelites in geo-sycronous orbit picked up the mass movement of terrain, and immediately the knew what was going on. Doomanum itself maintained an extensive sub-surface air defense network, and so this was nothing new for the High Command.
The way the Spartans implemented their system appeared to be rather ineffecient. Rather than simply using a conventional vertical launch system camoflaged with the Earth, their systems had to physically either elevate or turn over.
This was time consuming, and allowed for a swift and lethal response on the part of the Imperium.
With well over two-hundred fifty weapons platforms currently in orbit in theatre, Fist of God was about to have a field day with the Spartan defensive network. Each individual satelite was rather inexpensive, containing the rudementary launch systems nessessary for releasing a tungsten rod towards a target on Earth. Each satelite had twenty-four of these heavy tungsten spikes, which were fin stabalized and guided via datalink.
With no Spartan satelites to worry about, they were in the clear. In addition, the satelites would stay over Imperial territory and release at an angle, preventing enemy land-based ASAT missiles from hitting them.
Within thirty seconds of their detection, the Spartan cruise missile platforms were engaged by heavy tungsten rods (one for each of the enemy's cruise missile platforms), falling from the sky on their targets at double digit mach numbers. With the mass of the rods combined with the kinetic energy of their hitting the ground, it would be the equivelent of a large conventional bomb (but with superb penetration capability) hitting the now-vulnerable platforms.
The platforms were targetted before they even began firing.
Meanwhile, the Spartan air defense network had made a serious miscalculation of its own. By thinking that it had been aircraft that launched the RADAR-seeking missiles, they had put themselves in a vulnerable position. It had, in fact, been land-based rocket launcher systems that launched the missiles that destroyed Sparta's RADAR network.
As soon as the new Spartan RADARs activated, the rocket launchers simply did the same to the new ones, targetting them based on their RADAR emmisions and taking into account satelite intellegence.

And that aircraft deal is still shady. He posted deploying those planes not even two hours after he bought them, as far as tgs go anybody can say anything about tgs when no one else can see them.
IC:
The Spartans were full of surprises, first an entire underground air defense network, then a borrowed army from Huahin. The problem for the Spartans was that hundreds of guns and dozens of planes were waiting for targets to pop up just like they did. Every time a radar went on line in Spartan territory it put itself on the receiving end of a KH-97E Kraven missile launched by one of the 96 Rain outfitted in a Wild Weasel role, or if the radars or SAM’s were closer to Chechnya, a salvo of 175mm shells and 250mm rockets. Still, aircraft began going down, almost three dozen Rain and EB-9 Night Eagles were quickly shot down when the Spartan air defense net sprung to life. Many more would likely go down before the Spartan defense net was done, but Haven was satisfied with the trade so far.
Satellites and UAV’s passing real time data from Sparta to controllers in Haven and Chechnya noticed the Spartan crews attempting to repair the damaged airfields, something that couldn’t be allowed. From Chechen silo’s 250 Wolverine missiles rose up and headed out to Sparta to strike the airfields that had already taken such a beating. The missiles never struck the ground instead splaying open hundreds of feet over their target airfields and dispensing a little over half a ton of sub-munitions and mines. The sub-munitions would further damage and crater runways, and would also serve to kill repair crews, while the mines would make any surviving repair crews lives’ very difficult indeed.
In Chechnya many of the guns went silent, leaving only half of the original number firing. The guns that kept firing continued hitting targets of opportunity, waiting for cooridinates of new Spartan installations that kept popping out from the ground. The other guns remained silent, waiting for the ground war to begin, and more ammunition to be brought up.
The new Spartan air force came as another surprise. The 750 Spartan fighters that came at Chechnya vastly outnumbered the 204 Valkyrie fighters flying CAP over Chechnya and Spartan Caucasia. The fighters had an equilizer, the fact that they carried almost three times as many missiles as the Spartan fighters who could only carry 6, and no doubt not all 6 would be long range missiles, that and the fact that they had multiple AWAC’s birds providing support, organization and a command structure. The AWAC’s birds put up a wall of jamming in the faces of the Spartans and any missiles they fired while at the same time passing out targets to various Valkyrie fighters. Each of the 204 Valkyrie’s fired seven MTAAM-3 Silencer missiles at the Spartans, for a total of 1,428 missiles that were guided in by the powerful E-33 AWAC’s birds. From Chechnya hundreds of long range Preatorian II SAM missiles rose up to enage the Spartan’s just as the Silencers went out. The Spartan missiles had a hard time of it, first with the lack of AWAC’s birds or ground based radar to guide the missiles they had to depend on the planes that launched them, planes that were now fighting for their lives and couldn’t spend much time guiding their missiles, then on top of that they were facing a heavy wall of jamming from the E-33 AWAC’s birds. Still, many of them hit their targets, striking almost half of the Valkyrie fighters. 78 Valkyrie’s went down in flames while another 21 had to either crash land or hurredly make it back to Chechen airfields with damage. The surviving Valkyrie’s let loose another salvo of missile’s at any surviving Spartan’s, a salvo that was quickly joined by more Preatorian II SAM from below.
Over Sparta the heavy EB-9 bombers began turning around after dispensing their payloads and headed home. The Rain stayed, flying low to the ground in two’s and fours hunting for various targets. 96 were outfitted as Wild Weasel aircraft and went about trying to tear apart the new air defense network before it could take down more Havenite aircraft while the other 156 hunted everything else. There main targets were Spartan armored units, but they shot up anything moving on the roads or any trains using Sparta railroads, military or not.
From Haven a new flight of aircraft took off heading towards Spartan territory. More EB-9’s, Valkyrie fighters and Rain fighter bombers, now loaded with much heavier bunker busting bombs to dig into and destroy Spartan underground facilities, regardless of where they were located. Command facilities and the Spartan palace were priority targets, but all underground facilities that could be found were hit. Overhead in space, satellites began searching Spartan territory for just such underground facilities. Using a technology used long ago by America to map out the underground tributaries of the Nile delta in Egypt, they looked hard for Spartan facilities and every time one was found the data was passed on to AWAC’s birds who would hand out targets to the incoming bombers.
Around Gudemas the ground offensive began rolling off. 90,000 men, 1,000 tanks and thousands of smaller APC’s and IFV’s advanced on a 20 mile front making a beeline for Mahackala on the Caspian coast. They moved quickly, pounding over the border before Sparta could pull any troops from the Doomingsland border over to Chechnya. Up ahead 200 Denel TVL88 helicopters and 48 Rain fighter bombers cleared the path hunting for any Spartan units that might be in the way, while dozens of UAV’s frantically searched all of Dagestan for a Spartan military presence, be it above or underground. The couple of hundred guns that had silenced after the opening salvo’s came back on line, waiting to blow apart, or blow open in the case of underground facilities, any Spartan presence found in the way of the advance. Heavily equipped special forces units and engineers moved right behind the advance, searching and clearing gout openings to underground Spartan facilities. Gas, Thermobraic(FAE’s), flame throwers and HE were used abundantly in clearing out the underground facilities. The Havenic advance only had a little more than 50 miles to go, a distance they hoped to make it only a couple days as long as the Spartans didn’t pull out any new surprises.

OOC: The transaction took place 3 days ago.
IC: The helots were all but wiped out by this new gas attack and from the machine guns and sniper rifles of the Doomingsland defenders. Fewer than 10,000 survived, and they began a hasty retreat back towards Spartan territory. The news crews and crypteia also went down, one by one. But there was already enough footage of the slaughter.
The crypteia were easily identified from the helots by their distinctive uniforms, but their mission was complete: a series of hydrogen generators were place down along the border. The generators were hidden from aerial reconaissance. The hydrogen was extremely flammable and explosive: if a plane or missile flew threw, its hot exhaust would ignite the hydrogen, triggering an explosion that would destroy the aircraft or missile and quite possibly set off some of the mines on the border. The chain reaction could possibly set off entire portions of the extremely dense minefield.
The air defense network was performing well in shooting down attacking Cottish and Havenite aircraft. However, the Doomingsland rockets were wreaking havoc on the radar. From vertical launch tubes, 4000 cruise missiles opened fire towards the land-based rocket sites. The missiles flew at speeds nearing Mach 5 and flew very low to the ground.
Then came the rod attack. The Spartans had endured a previous tungsten rod attack during the war with Kreynoria. New Sparta had been devastated by rod attacks from Kreynoria. Sparta had built up a large ASAT arsenal to defeat any future satellite attacks.
Vertical launch tubes began to fire the first of 2,000 ASAT missiles at Doomingsland's Fist of God satellites, as well as at any Cottish or Havenite satellites in the area.
The impact of the tungsten rods was devastating: the underground air defense sites that had been exposed shattered like glass. Between the rods and the missiles, most of the air defense network had been destroyed, along with almost all of the radar.
The Spartans were plenty ready to counter the Havenite ground offensive. The Helots had fought Doomingsland, but the Spartiati, the true warriors, had not been sent. They were within Spartan borders, in their concealed bases. Mahackala had grown from a relatively small Caspian port to a huge city after the completion of the Caspian-Black Sea Canal.
The Spartiati were protected by highly advanced Samson battlesuits, although their rifles, M-16s, were sorely in need of replacement with a more advanced rifle. Two themes (200,000 men) were positioned in the general area, albeit in bases under the city. They immediately began to sally forth, joined by M1A3 Abrams MBTs (modified M1A2 with a 140mm ETC gun, explosive reactive and tungsten weave added to the armor, and more advanced electronics) and the lighter CVRT Spartan light tank. There were 1,200 Abrams tanks and 1,600 Spartan tanks. Additionally, 800 PzH 2000 howitzers, 60 M270 MLRS units, 200 Starstreak SAM batteries, and 960 Warrior infantry fighting vehicles would join the force. Supporting it from the air would be 250 F-14 Tomcat and 150 F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters and 250 A-10 Thunderbolt II attack planes. The artillery units were going to try out a secret weapon for the first time: acid shells. In addition to delivering the usual shrapnel, they would also rain very potent acids down upon the Havenite troops.
The planes would take off from underground runways, a door at the end of the runway would open, allowing the plane to fly out. In addition to the aircraft supporting the Mahackala counter-offensive, 100 AWACS aircraft were launched at various places around the nation to replace the destroyed radar centers on the ground.
The Osiris fighters facing off with the Havenite aircraft were having a tough time of it. The Havenite planes were jamming their radar, making it difficult to aim their missiles. Thanks to the missile and rod attacks, the Spartans had few surviving radar installations, meaning that until those AWACS got into the air, they would have to rely on their own radar to guide their missiles. And finally, the Havenite aircraft could each carry a larger missile payload than the Osiris fighters. However, the Osirises had one advantage: they massively outnumbered the Havenite planes. Three hundred and thirty-eight Osirises had been shot down or forced to land. Fortunately, although their surface runways were out of commission, they could land at the underground ones via large doors.

I've only been fighting in the Pacific war for an NS day, and your attacking me here because of that, and you only ordered the planes three RL days ago, which means they would have been ordered after my entrance into the Pacific conflict. Then you have to remember I only gave you three hours to follow my ultimatum, so this particular battle has only been going on for like an NS hour.
In otherwords, unless you guys can somehow build 4,500 planes in a day, you don't have all of those planes.
And I find it awfully suspicious how you mentioned nothing about having vertical launch tubes until I mentioned it in my post. It seems to me like your making this stuff up as you go along.
IC:
Now that the Spartans were in full retreat, the Guardsmen could sit back and watch the show.
The High Command had decided that none would be allowed to escape. Batteries of 152mm guns began lobbing shells in the paths of the retreating Helots. These shells were loaded with napalm, which would effectively cut of the Helot retreat with fire.
Imperial propaganda officers with high-powered megaphones began to call out to the Helots, reading off the following message:
Attention, Helots,
Halt and lay down your arms and you shall be spared death. You have witnessed our power, and any Helot that honorably surrenders shall be protected from your former masters with this power. Your families in Sparta shall be freed if you join us, and you shall be given the oppurtunity to take up arms against those who sent you to your deaths. Lay down your arms and stay where you are!
If they failed to do that, they would all simply be killed.
The Crypteia had forgotten one thing: there were actualy people in the bunkers watching what they were doing! Not to mention the numerous cameras along the border. They had been seen planting the hydrogen generators, and so the generators each recieved a volly of 152mm HE-FRAG rounds, ending that threat.
The Spartan cruise missile attack fared even worse. Because they were at such low altitude, at mach five the missiles' airframes would simply disintegrate! Even flying mach two at low level would be enough to comprimise the airframes of any missile. And so, as the missiles began to reach mach two, they would begin to come apart due to the extreme pressure of flying so fast so low and most likely fly into the ground.
Imperial RADAR operators laughed hysterically as this went on. The Spartans didn't seem to know much about the laws of physics.
OOC: Generally, the fastest a cruise missile can go at such a low altitude would be like mach 1.5.
IC:
If there was any success in the Spartan's attack, it was their ASAT strike. The two-hundred fifty cheap godrod carriers were all quickly swatted from the sky by the enemy's ASAT missiles, the launch sites of which were promptly engaged by land-based rocket launchers, along with the enemy's cruise missile silos.
However, the geo-syncrounous spy satelites most managed to get out of the way by breaking off geo-sync orbit, which promptly got them out of range of the Spartan ASATs. Imperial satelite intellegence would now be temporarily blinded due to the lack of the presence of the geo-sync sats.
With the satelites out of the way for the next twenty or so minutes while new ones from Siberia were rerouted, stealthy UAVs would take over watching for enemy activity.
Of course, now there were more enemy aircraft to deal with. The enemy AWACS aircraft were detected rather quickly via their own RADAR emmissions. This time, rather than using MRLs, long range land-based Angelus surface-to-air missiles were employed.
These large, long-range missiles had a top speed of mach five and could be employed using land or air based RADAR, passive RADAR homing, LADAR, LIDAR, infrared, or a datalink. In this case they would use passive RADAR homing and a datalink to sniff out the AWACS craft. One hundred and twenty of them were launched from land-based vetical launch cells and would reach their targets rather quickly, thus allowing for minimal time for detection and evasive maneuvers. Now that the Spartans had learned traveling at mach five will wreck an airframe at low altitude, they would probably try to dive to low altitude to cause the missiles to break up.
Because AWACS aircraft are big, lumbering planes, they most likely wouldn't be able to maneuver very easily and get down there quick enough to make this happen. Even if they did, their lack of maneuverability in such a steep dive would more or less likely cause them to crash into the ground.
OOC: Both me and Cot are dumping large amounts of BUnker busters on your udnerground facilities and I'm using half of my 175mm guns to try and collapse some of them. And I've got Rain fighter bombers hunting for your armored units.

Rain is a fighter bomber, its the name of the plane, which if you read my posts you'd know. What I have in Chechnya has been detailed in my posts, which if you've read you'd know.
BUt just in case...there's 90,000 men in 4 infantry divisions and an armored division along with 1,000 tanks(MAD.IV Imperator) along with enough APC's and IFV's to cary all the men advancing into Spartan territory, specifically Mahackala on the Caspian coast on a 20 mile front. With them are 200 Denel choppers, and they are recieving support from half of the artillery guns in Chechnya and all the rocket artillery-810 175mm KAG's and 360 250mm KAR-45's.
Manning the rest of the Chechen border, mostly the northern part is another 3infantry divisions(60,000 combat troops plus enough APC's/IFV's to trasnport them) and two hundred Denels. Another 3 airborne divisions(Another 60,000 combat troops) have been airlifting in from Haven to help man that front.
There are another 810 guns in Chechnya firing on Spartan targets of oppurtunity. Also, each division has 48 SP 120mm mortars and 60 mobile SAM/air defense platforms on top of the air defense net around Chechnya. each division also has anywhere between 10-12,000 logistical personall attached directly to it.(More for the armored division, less for the airborne)

OOC: There were VLS tubes only for the cruise missiles. The rest is the doors system. I'll post my ORBAT soon.
IC: King Achilles was not happy about the failed missile strike.
"Which of you ass-wipes was in charge of launching those missiles?!" he screamed at the officers in the buried command post.
"Uh, uh, I was, er, am sir," said a pudgy, watery-eyed man.
"So why did the missiles, um, what's the technical word for it? BREAK UP!!!" he screamed.
"Well, it seems they were launched at too high of a speed and..."
"Idiot! Moron! I should have you chopped up and fed to my dogs! Instead, I'll have you flogged. Twenty lashings should teach this wretch to pay attention in his physics class.
Another salvo of missiles began to fire. However, the bunker busters and artillery had taken their toll upon the launchers, and only about 6,000 missiles were launched at the Doomingsland rocket launchers, their speed down at a much more reasonable Mach 1.4. In addition, the Spartans decided to take their revenge for the attacks on their cities by firing an additional 3,000 cruise missiles at the cities in Doomingsland territory: these were outfitted with chemical warheads. A variety of chemicals had been loaded into these missiles: tear gas, chlorine, phosgene, mustard, sarin, and in nineteen warheads, the deadly VX gas.
The utmost priority of the AWACS planes at this moment was survival: they were all that remained of the Spartan radar net. They immediately activated their jammers, fired off chaff and flares, and began diving low to avoid the missiles. While these counter-measures might save a few of them from the missiles, the chaff would also play havoc with the planes' detection ability.
The missiles destroyed seventy-three of the lumbering planes outright, and another thirteen were damaged by detonations among the chaff or flares. A futher three were also unable to pull out of their dives on time and slammed into the ground. This left eleven AWACS intact. The Spartans immediately began scrambling F-14 Tomcats and F/A-18 Super Hornets to protect the surviving AWACS: 180 F-14 Tomcats and 140 F/A-18 Super Hornets.
Of the 200 ASAT missile launchers that had fired at the Doomingslandi satellites, 156 were destroyed or severely damaged by rocket launches. There were only 616 missiles left in the remaining launchers, maybe enough to stop one more serious satellite attack.
The helots wailed in despair as the firestorms began to form in their path of retreat. There was no escape now: they would die here. The generals, out of desperation, ordered the helots to open fire. They shot wildly, hoping something would be hit. But within minutes after the Doomingslanders began announcing demands for their surrender, they had all laid down their arms. Out of an original 30 million, there were only 9,563 survivors, and they were prisoners of war.
Only three squads of crypteia made it back to Spartan territory. Their mission was a failure; many had commited suicide or just charged madly at the Doomingsland defenses. The more sensible ones had tried to retreat. But the Doomingslanders had suppressed them with pinpoint sniper fire. There were eight survivors from three different squads who made it back to an underground base succesfully.
The Spartans immediately began training another helot army. There were of course, the helots that had luckily been chosen to be retrained as anti-air and anti-tank crews; they had not seen the carnage. Another 30 million-strong force was being hastily prepared: however, these would have even less training than the original helot army. At least they would have gas masks. Equipping the original army with them would have spared more than 20 million a horrific fate.
The underground bases had all been destroyed; only those command posts, fueling stations, hangars and runways, air defenses, and power plants that had been buried directly under the cities had been spared the remorseless bombing and missile strikes. There were not many. Just seven of the underground airbases were under cities. Thirty SAM batteries and fifty antiaircraft guns had been hidden, all of them under the city of New Sparta around the palace. Two powerstations had been buried under New Sparta that provided power to important government and military centers in the city.
The Spartan nation was crumbling, but they were not going to go down without a hell of a fight.

Where the hell do you keep getting all of these cruise missiles? IC:
With the surrender of the Helot army, the Imperial Guardsmen rejoiced in victory. They had done what no army had ever done before: they had stopped the advance of thirty-million men, and had done it with only very minor casualties. This would surely go down as the most bizzare lop-sided battle in history.
Paths were cleared through the minefield with detchord, and the Helot prisoners were made to run through as quick as possible and file into nearby bunkers. From there they would be blindfolded and brought into a network of tunnels that would bring them deep below the ground, well out of the reach of their former masters.
However, while they were slaves, the Imperial soldiers, barking orders at their captives and roughing them up, proding them with rifle butts, didn't trust these Helots, and so they made sure to chain them to the walls once they had them in holding cells, never bothering to remove the blindfolds. Their fate would be decided later, and that fate was uncertain at the moment.
The senior officers that had been taken prisoner already had their fates decided for them. They were immediately seperated from the regular Helots and brought to a seperate part of the complex, dragged into interrogation rooms. These men had lead attacks against the Imperium, and possibly knew of further attacks being planned.
Hopefully, they would vuluntarily give up the information to their captors. If they did so, they and their men would be treated well and would be given the chance to take up arms against their former masters. If they didn't...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, the enemy's latest barrage of cruise missiles had come as somewhat of a surprise. It seemed as if they had an infinite supply of the weapons. With so many missiles targetting the fewer than 1,000 trailer-towed rocket launchers (the crews were safetly in subterrainian bunkers remotely controlling the launchers), they were simply obliterated, but it didn't really matter.
They had accomplished their mission. The enemy's air defense network had been totally annihilated.
Of course, there was now the issue of nearly 3,000 enemy missiles targetting Imperial cities. This was by far the most attrocious act commited by the Spartans thus far, attacking Doomani civilian targets without any provokation. Luckily, all of the citizens of the cities had taken cover in airraid shelters, flitered from biological and chemical weapons, and so casualties were kept to a minimum. Even still, several hundred were killed and maimed in those attacks, people who hadn't been able to make it to the shelters.
This sparked an unholy rage amongst the citizens of the Imperium. They wanted the land to run red with Spartan blood. There would be no oppurtunity for surrender now. The Imperium would now be waging a war of destruction against their hated enemy.
Hundreds of millions would soon die due to the stupidity of the Spartan king. Millions of his own people.
The first counter-strike was swift and brutal, consisting of a barrage of six-thousand land-based cruise missiles, making use of the rugged Caucasian terrain to mask their approach to New Sparta. These warheads were loaded with not only chemicals, but napalm. The heavy napalm warheads would be used to simply raze the city to the ground.
Having much experience the in art of firebombing, the High Command was able to plan the strike so that literally thousands of firestorms would be sparked throughout the city, creating the potential for literally tens of millions of casualties. Also mixed in were several hundred VX-laced missiles combined with aerosolized hydrocloic acid missiles, capable of destroying the filtration systems of enemy airraid shelters and gas masks.
Finally, mixed in with the missiles were nearly one thousand thermobaric warheads, better known as fuel air explosives. These were twin-stage missiles, the first stage releasing a highly flammable, toxic gas. This gas would go everywhere, inside buildings, through the filtration systems of airraid shelters, anywhere the napalm would be able to reach. The second stage would be a small explosion, igniting the gas. This would be able to totally wreck the filtration of any airraid shelter and literally suck the oxygen out, suffocating everyone inside.
Anything that survived suffocation would be either incinerated, or literally crushed like an aluminum can by the tremendous overpressure that ensued.
These were spread all over the city. Anything not killed by gas would be killed by fire. Anything not killed by fire would be killed by gas. It was beautiful.
The whole city was attacked, nothing was spared, not even the palace. That, of course, was one of the prime targets for incineration. It seemed that by attacking the Imperium, the Spartans had bit off much more than they could chew.

The Spartan ASAT attack was devastating to Havenic space assets over Sparta and the entire Caucas region. Every satellite that was providing real time date to the men below, was taken down by the very large number of Spartan missiles and it would be some time before new satellites could take their place. In the meantime the slack was taken up by the dozens of UAV’s prowling Spartan land, mostly in northern Azerbaijan and in Dagestan.
Over Mahackala, the Valkyrie fighters that were escorting the second bombing flight from Haven broke off their escorts and moved in on the Spartan planes that were taking off. The 120 Valkyrie’s began firing missiles down at the Spartan planes as they took off hoping to kill them before they could try and maneuver while they were still taking off. In what was becoming the norm in the short time the war had been going on, the Valkyrie’s were outnumbered, but in shooting at the Spartan’s as they were taking off they hoped to cut down on the Spartan’s quickly and maybe flip the scales around. On top of the Valkyrie’s AA missiles, every time a Spartan plane tried to take off it gave away another underground airfield which was promptly hit with bombs from one of the roving EB-9’s.
Under the cover of the Valkyrie’s the 48 Rain that had been sent to clear out the path between Chechnya and Mahackala started doing their jobs. Each Rain carried a dozen air to ground missiles, most of which were anti-armor missiles. With targeting provided by AWAC’s birds in the air and UAV’s directly over the Spartan army, the Rain lit off their missiles from miles away, leaving them to be guided in by the UAV’s, AWAC’s and their own guidance systems. The missiles targeted both the Abrams tanks and the Starstreak SAM’s, with the Starstreaks taking priority. The Rain dropped down close to the ground hoping to hide out until it could be confirmed if the Starstreaks had been taken out or not. The two hundred Denela followed their example, staying low and hidden until an assesment of the last strike came out.
The guns in Chechnya all stopped firing and swiveled around to the new Spartan army. The Spartan army would receive the full force of the up to now untouched artillery arm in Chechnya. 1,620 175mm KAG SP guns and 360 250mm KAR-45 rocket systems punched in cooridinates depicting the Spartan army. It took a few minutes, but in the end the wait was worth it. The guns and rocket systems all opened up as close together as they could, sending over a thousand shells and thousands of rockets at the Spartan army. The shells and rockets were targeted on the Spartan artillery, the entire focus of the guns was on the Spartan guns and rocket systems. Some seconds later another salvo of shells went out, then another. It would continue like that, though at a slower pace than before until new ammunition could be brought up, until the Spartan guns were destroyed.
The Havenic army stopped in its tracks just past the border when word came in about the Spartan army, or more like when the Spartans announced themselves. The Spartan shells killed dozens and wounded hundreds more before the men could get into vehicles to avoid the shrapnel. The acid didn’t do much, it was the shrapnel that did the killing and caused the damage. The army didn’t plan on moving though, not until damage reports came in from the air strikes and artillery bombardment, they were taking enough losses just from Spartan artillery, they didn’t need to advance into an army more than twice there size.
On the other side of the Caucases, the Valkyrie fighters engaging the Osiris’ were having a very tough time of things. Outnumbered three to one to start, simple attrition was losing them the fight. The 105 surviving Valkyrie’s fired off what remaining long and medium range missiles they had at the Spartan’s before turning around and running for airbases in Chechnya. As they ran even more swarms of SAM’s rose up from Chechnya to hold off the Spartan’s while an even heavier wall of jamming was put up. The Valkyrie’s had sold their lives dearly, half of their number were already dead, but in doing so they had saved the bombers and allowed them to complete their missions, which had done a lot to bring down the Spartan kingdom.

OOC: Did you ever respond to the original 30,000 missiles?
The captured helot officers had absolutely no knowledge of any further military actions. They in fact had known nothing about the military until their conscription, and they had not expected the need for any followup attacks to conquer their knew homeland.
In the meantime, the harsh treatment given to the other helots only seemed to confirm the propoganda given to them by their Spartan masters as true. The majority of them were in mental shock from the slaughter a few hours beforehand, and would never again be fit for battle. Furthermore, they feared above all else recapture by the Spartans, who were known to exact unbelievably cruel punishments against traitors.
In the meantime, despair was beginning to set in among the command staff in Spartan headquarters. A few were even contemplating the unspeakable idea of surrender.
But the kings were adamant that the Spartans would fight to the last drop of blood. They had spent the last of their land-based missiles, had their air defense network totally destroyed, had only a handful of AWACS birds left, and had lost many of their newly gained fighter aircraft, not to mention the helot army.
But the Spartans still hadn't been bested on land. There were still 3.5 million Spartiati troops, more Crypteia terror squads, and the Perioikoi militia. King Achilles gave his troops one final address before they went to war.
"I speak to you, men of Sparta, at the twilight of our kingdom's history. Today, our kingdom is on the brink of defeat at the hands of Doomingsland, and Safehaven, and Cotland. I call upon you, men of Sparta, to turn back the tide of defeat, to bring Sparta back from ruin. Sparta's fate rests in your hands. The fate of your families rests in your hands. Would you see the cowardly Doomingslander, the opportunistic Havenite, the brutal Cot plunder your goods, desecrate your home, rape your wife, sell your children into slavery, and uproot the graves of your ancestors? You, men of Sparta, have carried our nation through countless crises, through the trials and tribulations of time. Our people are a proud people, and we shall uphold this pride come whatever. Today may be the last day the Spartan people ever see, but whatever the outcome, it shall be a day of glory, a day of glory for every Spartan alive. A day that people a thousand generations from now will look back and say, 'that is the most glorious day of the Spartans.' It shall be a black day, a day of killing and death. Though our people, our way of life might die today, our pride will never die. With every life you take, your honor yourselves, your kings, your ancestors. I look to all of you to uphold Spartan pride. And I command you each to kill ten enemies of Sparta. Now, to battle!"
Spartan voices all rose in one last battle cry. The sound of a million voices screaming in unison was deafening. The Spartan army prepared to march to one last battle.
King Achilles would be joining them, leading from the front like one of the heroes of old. His aides locked him into battle armor, and he took up sword, rifle, and grenades.
The spectacle was one of the greatest that Achilles had ever seen. A million soldiers, red cloaks and gilded armor worn over Samson battlesuits, rifles at the ready began to march.
When the march to the surface was completed, the Spartiati were treated to a scene of horror. New Sparta had been totally leveled. Not a building in sight had been unscathed, and there was not a living soul in sight. There were plenty of bodies, horribly burned and shruken from the heat and pressure. Even the palace, normally distinctive in the skyline of New Sparta, was completely leveled. Stray fires still burned in some locations. The sight of the city in total ruins only increased the Spartans' anger.
From around the country, the Spartans began a march toward the Doomingsland border.
In the meantime, the Osiris fighters and Icarus bombers switched targets to cover the Spartiati advance. Planes that had only one missile left were to perform kamikaze attacks.
The small Spartan navy also set sail from the Caspian Sea, through the Caspian-Black Sea Canal, to attack the Doomani coast and any ships there. The twenty carriers of the fleet were the last source of aircraft for Sparta.

Before the completion of the Canal, there was only a bunch of destoyers since it was just the Caspian. The carriers and battleships are for the most part new. The Spartans are pretty much a bunch of landlubbers. I know more about naval force structure than that, but I am not RPing a perfect nation. The Spartans could care less about naval warfare, so not much attention is paid to the navy. The carriers are guarded and they're happy, so that is how it is.

The Spartan forces around Mahackala decided to try and coax the Havenite forces into battle against the superior Spartan numbers. Taking advantage over the Havenite lack of recon satellites, the Spartans silenced their artillery and quickly camouflaged their artillery pieces as destroyed, and set off harmless explosive charges to convince the Havenites of their destruction. Some of the artillery kept firing, but less than the Havenite artillery. Meanwhile, the Spartan commander in the area played another ruse by sending a message along a phone line known to be tapped by a Havenite sympathizer in the city:
Mahackala Garrison reporting to HQ. Much of artillery support lost. Very low morale. Please advise.
The Havenites would hopefully walk right into the trap...

The Helot officers, upon the discovery that they knew nothing, were transferred to bases deeper in the country where they would be placed under house arrest for the remainder of the war. The regular Helots, on the other hand, were simply left to rot in the dungeons. The Imperium would find use for them after the war, no doubt.
Finally, Imperial recon satelites began to retake their positions and quickly located the massive buildups of Spartan troops and the movement of their fleet through the canal.
AWACS aircraft had already been monitoring the movement of their airforce.
A response was quickly developed and enacted. This response was to be the most brutal one enacted thus far in the war.
First off, eight hundred land-based cruise missiles were launched, targetting the canal itself before the first ship had gotten half way across it. Traveling at mach 1.5 and hugging the ground, the missiles would plunge their 2,000lb thermite warheads right into the canal locks. The thermite would burn right through the locks, rendering the canal useless, and stranding any ships within it.
In addition, two hundred of the missiles carried payloads of anti-ship mines. These missiles targetted the areas outside the canal itself (along with the entrances to the canal) and were dropped in a pattern to trap the Spartan fleet.
With the enemy fleet taken care of, more or less, attention was turned to the enemy's sizable land force. With the Spartan army in the open, it was time to deliver the killing blow.
Launch codes were delivered to the XVI-XXIV Missile Cohorts along with target coordinates inside Sparta. Within minutes, the weapons began to launch.
Firing out of silos and mobile launch vehicles, 4,000 Mars III Intercontinental Cruise Missiles were launched at the Spartan ground forces. These missiles would be carried to an altitude of 110,000 feet by their solid fuel rocket boosters, which would then detach. A scramjet engine would then take over and the missiles would take a level flight pattern, pushing them to speeds of up to mach ten, reaching their targets in a matter of minutes.
Once nearing their targets, the warheads would detach, six warheads per missile, and continue at high mach speeds towards seperate targets. Loaded within the warheads were hundreds of depleted uranium spikes. Once within range, the warheads would split open, releasing their deadly payload.
The spikes would come down on their targets at speeds exceeding mach ten, creating a godrod effect on their targets. There were enough spikes coming down that virtually every armored and thin-skinned vehicle the Spartans had deployed had a spike coming through the roof. Nothing was safe, not even their M-1A3 tanks.
The results were horrendous. Twenty-four thousand such warheads rained from the heavens at high mach speed, each totally covering the area of several football fields.
Every Spartan troop concentration was targetted without exception. Nothing would be spared. Infantry and armor alike were horrifically vulnerable to these weapons. It could be compared to having a few million small godrods dropped on them, more or less.
Of course, the Imperium's fury far from ended with that attack.
There was still a Spartan airforce, however weak and crippled, to be dealt with.
Land-based VLS systems once again went active and began to spew out Apostle surface-to-air missiles, targetting the enemy fighters and bombers from ranges of up to 210 miles, traveling at speeds up to mach 4.5, maneuvering via 3D thrust vectoring and gas thrust nozzles, targetting via friendly AWACS and land-based RADAR in addition to internal IR, LADAR, LIDAR, and electro-optical. Six-thousand missiles were launched at what remained of the Spartan airforce.
This time they would not be safe from their altitude. These missiles were one of the few weapons capable of pursuing the Spartan aircraft into their maximum cieling. Most vulnerable would be the bombers, which traveled at low subsonic speed.
The day seemed dark for Sparta...
"FLASH FLASH FLASH! ICBMs detected!" the operator yelled out, alerting everyone in the OPS center deep within a Norwegian mountain. The alert level for the Cottish strategic forces immediately went from BERSTAT-4 to BERSTAT-1, being only one notch from nuclear release. The missile wings in Norway, Murmansk and Kalmykia warmed up their own Ewos ICBMs, each loaded with ten 250-kiloton thermonuclear warheads in seperate return vehicles, and stood by. There was a chance that the missiles would hit Cotland. However, those fears were quickly replaced by horror as Cottish satellites saw the effects the relatively conventional weaponry had on their target. While the Cots had feared a nuclear holocaust, they had learned that the Doomingslandi weren't that crazy, and that they posessed an interesting piece of weaponry. Something worth researching. The Cottish ICBMs were gradually returned to BERSTAT-4 over the course of the next eight hours while the Government drafted up a protest note.

120 40mm DU spikes to a warhead,
multiplied by
Twenty-four thousand such warheads rained from the heavens at high mach speed,
equals 2,880,000 spikes. Not nearly enough to destroy my whole army, but do a good devastation. And I don't think a 4 cm piece of depleted uranium will go through explosive reactive armor (even if tiles aren't fired off), tungsten weave, and depleted uranium armor. I do believe it will devastate infantry and light tanks/mechanized units. Will RP soon.

Ummm, no, a 40mm DU spike is more than enough to tear through your armor like tissue paper...
The actual projectile of a 120mm sabot round fired from an Abrams tank's smoothbore gun is somewhere in the area of 30mms. The small diameter allows for insane velocities, and thus alot of kinetic energy, allowing for it to penetrate armor with ease. This is basicly the same thing, only a crapload more powerful, since these projectiles are coming down at double digit mach numbers, and, well, they're larger. There's no vehicle within MT limits that could possibly withstand that.
If anything, this attack would totally devastate your entire force of vehicles (there's more than enough spikes to take all those out), but your infantry would have a better chance of taking cover and whatnot (not to say they would be completely safe, tho)
But yeah, not enough spikes to wipe your army out, but probably more than enough to kill all your armored support.

Ummm, didn't you read how the missile works? Very well, I'll explain it AGAIN.
Scramjet propels missile to about mach ten or so at about 110,000 feet, warheads detach and head off towards seperate targets and do their decent. They'd maintain that speed as they split open, so the DU spikes would themselves be going mach ten.
Saying these things would burn up in the atmostphere would be like saying a tungsten rod would burn up in the atmosphere.
And that's each individual warhead covering the area of a few football fields, meaning that I can target your concentrations of vehicles...unless you just have individual vehicles just randomly thrown about without any organization what so ever...

A tungsten rod is about 20 feet long, and loses much of its mass in the atmosphere. That is why it has to be big. These little things will simply burn up.

I'm curious here Sparta, why wouldn't a DU flechette that is released from a missile be able to maintain the same velocity of the missile if it is small enough, angled enough, and launched correctly? Mach 10 could be their terminal velocity. SABOT rounds generally get up around 1,850 mps and are launched from main guns on tanks. To get to Mach 10 you'd need roughly 3,315 mps, which no main gun could do, as of yet. ETC guns could provide the power, rail guns definitely would. This mechanism is simple, the missile releases its DU flechettes on its terminal strike, the missiles do not exceed Mach 10 (terminal velocity let's say) and they come barrelling down? ICBM warheads are manfactured to come down at 6,705 mps (roughly). The flechette, being smaller and shaped differently, sort of, wouldn't be able to obtain that speed mainly because of the sheer lack of altitude it is coming down from but it is already moving at whatever speed the missile is running at.
My Imsdal comes in at Mach 8 and explodes releasing 10mm DU spheres. The spheres are interlaced within plastique explosive that explodes at 9,420 mps. The spheres don't move nearly that fast but they are moving much faster than the velocity of the missile.

They won't be moving nearly as fast as ICBM warheads and DU has a high melting point, 1132°C. It is doubtful that they will garner THAT much heat in a freefall unless they are coming down from LEO.

Please tell me which is correct.
Anyway, Krey and I both are saying mach 10 is fast enough to burn them up.
Mach 10 is about 1/2 the speed that ICBMs come inbound. They generally re-enter around 15,000 mph whereas Mach 10 is only 7,600 mph at sea level. Higher up it is slower.

Notice that the missiles, according to Doomingsland, never seem to be going faster than Mach 10.
And it hasn't been answered about the burning up thing. A tungsten rod will partially burn up in the atmosphere, tiny little spikes will burn up entirely.

While it is true that they have less surface area, therefore less area to distribute the heat, it's proportional. They wouldn't generate as much heat as a large object because less friction because less area going through the air, which wouldn't exceed the melting point for Tungsten. Tungsten has a melting point of 3695 K (3422 °C, 6192 °F), which is higher than DU. I doubt they would get anywhere NEAR this hot. Because of the way it's shaped it is optimized to reduce air friction by the nose edge, which will distribute the shock wave accordingly, as can be seen in this picture:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/23/Blunt_body_reentry_shapes.png/300px-Blunt_body_reentry_shapes.png
The space shuttles' tiles can take up to 1649°C (3000°F), average, on re-entry. That is NOWHERE near the melting point of Tungsten and the shuttle is coming down from how many miles up whereas these darts come down from 110,000 feet, which isn't all that high, in retrospect.

However these little things are DU, not Tungsten. Go to this site, paragraph 3.
http://www.rawa.org/du.htm
According to this, Tungsten melts at 3,422°C, correct. However, (same paragraph) DU melts at 1,132°C.

This confused me. Are they DU or Tungsten? Even still that temperature is for an STS coming down from HIGH altitude. 110,000 feet isn't that high so I doubt they'd even get that hot to melt.

Its DU actually

Let's quit chattering and wasting time. Sum EVERYTHING up to an answer.
The spikes are DU
The spikes are 40 mm
They are coming at mach 10
They come from 110,000 feet up (20.83 miles)
DU melts at 1,132°C
What are the turnouts.

I say no it won't reach that temperature because it isn't coming down from high enough to exert that much friction.

Very well. But I must pose the same question to Doomingsland that he asked me: where are you getting all these missiles?
The latest wave of surface-to-air missiles proved to be the crippling blow against the Spartan airforce. Of the 1789 remaining Osiris fighters, 1304 were shot down. The even more vulnerable Icarus bombers suffered near-total losses, with just 54 surviving the attack, many with damage. 923 Super Hornets and 660 Tomcats were also brought down. The surviving planes, 485 Osirises, 54 Icaruses, 197 Super Hornets, and 60 Tomcats continued to fly toward their targets. They had no place to land and were ordered to perform kamikaze attacks once they were down to one missile.
The destruction of the locks and mining of its waters had left the canal useless and impassable to the Spartan fleet. While unable to actually get into the Black Sea, the ships could still serve as potent missile bases.
Each of the 480 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers carried 96 missile cells. The cells carried Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles. Thus the destroyers alone could fire 46,080 missiles. 4,000 of the missiles were EMP missiles, and 12,000 were incendiary missiles, and the remainder were acid missiles, that would rain sulfuric acid in addition to shrapnel on the enemy. The missiles were targeted against Doomingsland's cities and defenses.
The 100 Type 22 Broadsword-class frigates each carried eight Harpoon anti-shipping missiles. The 800 missiles were launched against Doomingslandi ships.
And each of the 24 battleships carried four quad missile cells (sixteen missiles) of Tomahawks. These 384 missiles were fired in addition to the destroyers' missiles, for a total of 46,464 missiles.
I'll respond to land stuff later.

OOC:I already had all this stuff built. I have massive stockpiles of SAMs, and I really haven't used that many cruise missiles thus far.
IC:
With the enemy's fleet relatively contained and their expending of all of their ammunition (to the detriment of the Imperium's civilian population), the Spartan Navy was now a non-factor. The sheer amount of Spartan missiles fired meant that no matter how many the Doomani were able to shoot down, more would simply pour through.
The border defenses faired the best against the onslaught of incindiery weapons. The soldiers within the bunkers shut the steel shutters lining the windows and sealed them. Luckily, the bunkers were well-fortified and insulated that they would be well-protected against incindiery rounds. The EMP strike did manage to defeat exposed communications antenae and other active, non-EMP hardened electronics along the border, but most communications were via fiber optic cables deep beneath the ground, thus the attack was not at potent as it could have been.
Because the bunkers were so well concealed and the Spartans had no satelite intellegence to guide their missiles, most of the bunkers avoided being hit altogether. The acid missiles also had less-than-spectacular results on the bunkers.
In total, only a few hundred manning the border defenses were killed with many more wounded. The cities were a completely different story, however. The massive amount of incindiery missiles grouped together sparked hundreds of firestorms in the various Imperial cities, torching hundreds of buildings, and sealing thousands of civilians in airraid shelters to die a slow agonizing death. Billions worth in property was destroyed and massive skyscrapers caught fire and were incinerated, crumbling to the ground in a massive burning heap.
Most electronics in the cities were already turned off as it is, and those that were turned on were going to be destroyed by the flames, so the EMP made very little difference. The acid warheads also didn't do nearly as much as the incindieries, with most people already in airraid shelters.
All in all, well over 300,000 civilians were killed in the strike, with several cities being well over 50% destroyed. The Spartans, in their last effort, had made their mark on the Imperium. They had killed many thousands and nearly destroyed several cities. They had severely crippled the local economy. This would be an attack the Imperium would not soon forget.
The Harpoon missiles would have a hard time firing targets, with the Imperial fleet being nowhere near in range of them. They weren't even in theatre, and so that attack was no more than a waste. Not to mention the Spartan Fleet would have had zero intellegence regarding the actual location of the Doomani fleet.

OOC:Forgot to respond to the planes.
IC:
The remainder of the Spartan Airforce was no more than a pitifull shell of its former self, and it showed. Well over 2,000 enemy aircraft had been shot down from the last attack alone. The Imperium's air defense network had certainly proven its worth. However, the day was not yet done. There were still roughly seven to eight hundred enemy fighters and bombers still in the air continueing towards Doomani airspace, and that did not sit at all well with the High Command.
The Aquilas, by now, had finished rearming and refueling and where once again ready for battle. They were now joined by further reinforcements. There were now a total of twelve-hundred air superiority fighters now airborne capable of intercepting the incoming fighters. And that is precisely what they did.
The positions of enemy fighters were relayed from ground installations and AWACS aircraft to the formations of Doomani fighters, who’s pilots eagerly awaited the order to unleash their deadly payload of air-to-air ordnance. The order came quickly enough.
The ultra-stealthy Aquilas released their ordnance at a range of 120 naughtical miles from their foe, still over Spartan airspace. three missiles came from each fighter, traveling at a velocity of mach four towards their targets, guided by both the AWACS and land-based RADAR in addition to their own LIDAR/LADAR, infrared, electro-optical, and RADAR, while the fighters safely kept their own RADAR switched off and quickly bugged out upon releasing their payload.
The fighters’ RADAR cross sections were extremely small, and thus the RADAR aboard the Spartan aircraft would have been no-where near powerful enough to pick up on them from that range. With the Doomani RADARs turned off, the Spartans had basically no way of finding the fighters until they opened fire. Even then, the Doomani aircraft got away from the launch points extremely quickly. Losses were most likely going to be minimal.
That final launch of thirty-six hundred missiles would hopefully finish off what remained of the Spartan Airforce.
