Hydac was small nation in the heart of the Middle East. They had always been oil rich, but not enough to really make the country stand out. That was about to change.

Owen Drake was chief surveyor for the Hydac National Petroleum Company, and today he was working north of the city of Faisel. He sat up as his sonic probe beeped loudly. He quickly checked the readings, then rechecked them to be certain. When he as certain about what he found, he called his boss at the Oil Ministry to report his findings.

That afternoon Hydac announced the finding of the Faisel Oilfields, when all was said and done, Hydac now sat on 6.5% of the world's known oil reserves. Little did they know what this find would reap.

Explorator-General, and nasty bloke extraordinaire, Urquhart von Halen, surveyed the report regarding the oil fields, and, with a contemtuous glance at the states flag, gave the order to prepare his expeditionary force. As an explorator- general, von Halen's remit and powers were essentially unfettered, and his conduct accountable to the star council alone.

Secure in his sense of invulnerability, he proceeded to his state room in the Marcadi palace, and envisaged his elevation upon his return.

The Trade Master of the Sixth Emir, Maurit Lem'zarn, looked over the report appreciatively. He pushed a button on his desk, and his advisor and deal broker, a young man named Smith, walked in promptly.

"Yes sir?"
"Ah Smith. A wonderful opportunity is in our hands. I'll be blunt. These Hydac folk, they have something we want- oil. Oil makes plastics. Oil makes many things to make the workers happy, yes?"
"Yes sir."
"I want you to broker a deal with these Hydacs. Offer them subsidies. Remember, our beautiful Emirate has many things to offer the Hydacs; fresh fruit, Silver, and so on. Get to it, Smith!"
"Yes sir, at once!"

Smith rushes away to his office and faxes his Hydac counterpart:

Dear Sir/Madam,

The Emirate of Morotania has learned of your recent discovery of oil on your most wonderful land. We, your comrades in Morotania, suffer a plight- our oil is inadequate to support ourselves. However, we have plenty of items such as beautiful fresh Morotan Palm Coconuts, and even luxury items like silver. We would be more than happy to become a trading partner with you and are willing, on behalf of the Sixth Emir, to offer you a subsidy to maybe sweeten the deal somewhat.

I look forward to your response immediately. Ships are waiting to begin the first shipment to your magnificent country.

From The Sixth Emir's Trading Officer,

Marty Smith.

It came so suddenly, a report appeared on Michael Du'Fonts desk, it was on the nation just to the North of Toopoxia, a meager nation not worthy of Du'font's attention, that was until he opened the folder, the word OIL lept out at him and he suddenly saw the tactical advantage in siezing this nation now whilst it still had a large profit margin.

The Secretary of Defence was called immediatly, he already could see the advantage in invading, "if we mobilise the 1st Foreign Assult Division, 1st and 2nd National Armed Forces Divisions and the 1st Armour Division, and possibly hire out our harbours to foreign powers also interested in invading then we should be able to crush the enemy forces with ease, shall I have this done?"

"Yes, get to work, have the minister of propoganda inform the people that we are at war but that it is for just causes!" Du'Font took out a cigar, American made, and he began to puff away, this was cause for celebration.

Count Verrück of Ungeheuer, Chancellor of Mercosis, was thinking, hard. The announcement of an oil discovery in a country of a similar size to Mercosis had sparked an interest in him. He knew that he would sent forces to try and claim the oil, but due to the relatively recent formation of a united Federation army, he had no idea how to get them to Hydac with the limited resources available.
‘Your Highness?’ Commissar Übel, standing beside Verrück, spoke
‘Why not offer Hydac our troops in return for transportation for them?’
‘Excellent, contact Hydac and prepare the 1st Infantry Division. You go with them Übel, I need someone to keep General Sollenburg in line’.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Federation of Mercosis understands that oil is a much valued commodity in the modern world. We also understand that other nations may attempt to seize it by force. Therefore we offer an infantry division to help protect Hydac’s new resources. However we will require transportation for our troops to Hydac.

Claudius Griffincrest, CEO of Griffincrest Oil Inc, and one of the wealthiest men in the world, looked at the folder on his desk. Hydac sat on 6.5% of the worlds oil reserve! That is unbelievable. Not only that, but the country was near defenseless. "Excellent...ready Corporate Invasion Force Bravo, sent them to Hydac." he said to his assistant.

In a few hours, 1,000 T-55 tanks, 250 Folland Gnat fighters, an Mi-2 hoplite gunship, and 200,000 men armed with Leafanistani AR-550 conscript rifles would be in Hydac.

Jonensberg, Kulikovo

Chancellor Dante's only six year term in office was coming to an end. He led the nation through tough times and boom times. One major stance of his was the support of wars of liberation and to impose imperialistic powers. During a cabinet meeting the Minister of Foreign Affair Yorisiki stepped forward with some files.
"Sir, as I'm sure you've heard by now, the Middle-Eastern nation of Hydac has discovered substantional amounts of oil with its' borders. This news is quite disturbing and has the possibilty to escelate. Several nations have mobilized their forces in order to secure these oil fields. It's a clear cut show of imperialism, capitalism, and aggression." Yoriski said, showing Dantes the files and describing details to the cabinet.
Dantes rubbed his eye brows and sighed "Field Marshall Malakoff, what are our options if we persue military actions against the agressors?" he asked.
The experienced field marshall stood up, his beret at his side.
"Sir, we can send in fighters and bombers rapidly. Ground forces will take time, several days at least. Of course, permission from Hydac to place troops in their nation is needed. We can only hope their military can hold out. Chief Admiral Hellspont can provide fleet support. This operation will be tough" he said and sat back down.
Dantes looked at them all as they debated the best course of action. He finally broke their arguing
"Kulikovo cannot stand by while the soverignty of a nation is trampled just for the gains of oil. I am ordering a military expedition to Hydac in order to turn back these invaders and secure the soverignty of Hydac."

It was settled. Kulikovo was going to war...once more.

Offical Statement:
The Worker's State of Kulikovo will not stand for such actions undertaken by these agressor nations. It is a clear example of imperialist capitalism. Their goal is to take the oil fields while trampling over the rights of a soverign state. To this, the Kulikovian military with all its' might will be used to push the invaders back and secure the rights of Hydac and punish the imperialists.

The Corporate aircraft inflicted a great deal of damage to the small airfield, but it was of no real consequence as Hydac had no real air force, just a handful of F-5s and A-4s. As the Gnat fighters were leaving Hydac airspace, a concealed air defense site near the border launched 3 SA-6 SAMs, the missles waited until they were clear of the launcher before activating their onboard radar seekers. Once their targets were acquired they sped towards the outbound fighters at Mach 2.8.

Within hours of the orders, the 8th fleet sailed within range on Hydac. SU-27's began to take off from the carriers and land bases in firendly nations. Squardons of fighters roared through the sky to intercept the corporate fightes. Fierce dogfights and exchange of missles took place over the skies of Hydac. Hunks of metal and wreckage fell towards the Earth as Kulikovian pilots scored hit after hit, while recieving damage as well.

The Gnats initiated countermeasures to evade the SAM's, but the Su-27's would be a different story. The 20 Gnats realized they were outnumbered, but not for long. The remaining 230 fighters deployed in the begiining blasted into the skies to ambush the Kulikovian air force. An intense dofight was brewing.

"As you can see gentlemen, the lead Toopoxian elements have breached the berm and are approaching Falid. They appear to be spearheading the advance with a tank division followed by several light infantry divisions."

"What about the Corporate forces?" added Maj. Gen. Brooks, the military's oerations chief?

"Their air forces appear to be tied up with Kulikovon fighters in Toopoxian airspace. Their ground forces are still unloading in Toopoxia and are yet to deploy. Their force is spearheaded by a force of T-55s and mostly truck mounted infantry."

"What of our allies?" asked Minister Brooks.

"Kulikovo has deployed fighters to tie up corporate air units, several nations have pledged ground forces to our cause, but they are in the early stages of deploying. We're on our own for at least a week."

With that the generals turned back to the map to plan their strategy.

The CH-47s laden with supplies and Marines touched down at 1716 local time, in the southern city of Asrba. Fearful citizens cautiously gather around the large transport helicopters, and from within the Marine Leader, Captain James Morgan, addresses the public via loudspeaker;

"Friends of Hydac! Do not fear us, for we bring you aid and protection against the insurgency that seeks to rape your homeland of its precious oil! We will assist you, and your legal government, by defending this city of Asrba. I bring you the most solemn promise that it will not come to harm. All we ask is that you stay in your homes and keep clear of any military installations that may be deployed in this region. Food, Water and Clothing will be distributed equally amongst you, so please do not fight over the rations. Together, we can help end the bloodshed!"

The ramp of one of the Chinooks lowered carefully down, and the crowd of cautious citizens now eagerly awaited their free gifts. Children were given chocolate bars. Behind the crowds, a more sinister cargo of two German made Dingo Scout cars were being unloaded and the small group of Marines exited.

By nightfall, the Chinooks had returned to base.

Miles away, in the Emirate of Morotania, the Seven Emirs had met for the first time, and the press officers were ready. After 5 hours of deliberation, the following statement was made to the General Public and World...

"It saddens us, the Emirs of Morotania, to have to announce that a state of war exists between ourselves and Toopoxia. A state of renown such as Morotania cannot stand back and watch the Imperialists take something that is not theirs- the oil of Hydac. This would contradict our past fights with the European colonists. Therefore, we have had no choice but to send a Marine Expeditionary Force to the region in the South of Hydac.

I wish to extend our warm wishes to the people of Hydac, and to offer them hope in their time of need.

That is all. Go about your lives as you would normally; war does not necessarily mean the end of peace.

The Dingo Scout Cars opened up on the Hoplite helicopter, but to no avail; the machine gun bullets rattled off the fuselage right up until the rockets turned the cars into scrap metal.

The troops had a better deal, however. Although they suffered 5 casualties from the cannons on the Hoplite, a nearby tavern had provided sufficient cover for the Marines.

A Lockheed C-130 Hercules was taxiing from a Morotanic airfield, and within 2 hours would be providing the city of Asrba with much needed Anti Aircraft Support. Until that time, the few marines left managed to make the best of a bad situation by entrenching the tavern that they were situated it. It literally had become a machine gun nest.

Major General Sollenburg was not in a good mood. His division had been given less than 24 hours to prepare for probable military operations in a country he had never heard of. The force that disembarked at Hyden was missing most of its supply vehicles and only had two of its six allocated artillery batteries. He could choose between transporting his men quickly in the 8-tonne trucks and using them to haul artillery pieces and ammunition. His men only had one week of rations, enough ammunition to last probably only a few hours in combat and no definite source of supplies. On top of all this, he had a meddling commissar peering over his shoulder at everything he did. The fact that the enemy forces reportedly had large numbers of tanks and aircraft could only make things worse.
But at least he had allies…

The Kulikovian armoured divison clashed with the enemy tanks. The T-72's fired their weapons, smashing into the enmy tanks as attack helicopters swarmed in. The battle was fierce as the left flank was stalled. However, the right flank made some head way. Kulikovian tanks exploded, metal scattering into the air. But, they fought on inflicting much damage.

The 1st Brigade was dug into a defensive position along a wadi north of Falid. Though the artillery attack was intense, casualties were limited to about 20 vehicles destroyed of crippled and about 50 dead. However, the brigades FireFinder radar had carefuly plotted the location of all the Corporate artillery and shortly after the bombardment subsided, all 18 guns began firing air burst rounds on the Corporate artillery positions.

As far as the T-55s were concerned, the Brigade commander was not worried. His were well dug in and covered by layers of anti-tank ditches, minefields, and ATGM teams. The tanks had very little infantry cover and obsolete models anyway. The Hydacans were ready for them.

OOC: there are 180,000 infantry behind the tanks. And what about the Corporate/Kulikovian air battle?

The lead tanks hit the mine field and exploded. The rest of the tanks stopped dead in their tracks. Most of the artillery was destroyed, but the few surviving G7's and Katyusha's opened fire on the mine field, detonating most of the mines and damaging the tank traps. The infantry then poured in, ahead of the armour, clearing away obstructions, and charging for the anti-tank guns.

Northern Hydac

Hundreds of C-1 Dropmaster planes flew in a dispersed formation towards the Hydac coastline. Inside of each was either two platoons of Felucan airborne infantry or two vehicles.

Leading the way was the odd shape of an E-1 Telescope, the Felucan electronics warfare aerial platform. It brought with it a cloud of jamming, creating a sphere of static on RADAR and IR detection. Despite that, there were three squadrons of F-1 Hawks escorting the formation, armed with AIM air-to-air missiles or AGM-3 HARM type air-to-ground ordance.

Far below, the grey shapes of Felucan ships could be seen now cresting the horizon and making a speed run towards the coast. Various types, many of them the new Felucan Broadsword class along with guided missile cruisers and destroyers. Enough to start a war and really, really hurt someone.

A message cut through the jamming briefly, signaling to Hydrac forces on the ground,

"This is Colonel Zek of the Felucan 104th Airborne Infantry. Do not fire at us. We will be making our deployments north of Falid shortly."

And so it began.

Falid
Five miles north of the tank battle raging on, the Felucans would begin deployments.

The F-1 Hawks swept over the battlefield, seeking out RADAR emissions which to deliver their HARM ordance to. These are specificly radar-seekers, with an extreme accuracy. Designed to suppress SAMs and electronic-using flak systems.

Meanwhile, the C-1 Dropmasters were turning sharply to the east and then heading north again after having dropped long strings of parachutes. Thousands of Airborne Infantry were drifting downwards north of the battlefield. Other C-1s actually dropped down to ground level, skimming the flat desert terrain at about 20 feet off the ground. From the backs of these, parachutes were deployed which caught the air and dragged vehicles out.

On specially designed sleds, the vehicles hit the ground from 20 feet up and slid, sometimes up to 100 yards before grinding to a halt intact. Crews rushed to unhook the vehicles from their landing sleds while all around them, the Felucan IX Corps deployed itself for battle.

Snipers concealed in sand pits took aim at soldiers who appeared to be leaders and fired.

Asrbah, 20 km to the NW, seemed like a distant choke point as smoke and explosions seemed to scatter black smog for a clear radius. Commander Leif Geringer, 3rd Hobotian Battalion, set down onto shore and proceeded to outfit his men with weapons stored in "Medical Supplies" containers. Out of the containers whispered six KSU-34 mobile Anti-Aircraft Artillery. The 1,000 Light infantry helped unload ammunition and tertiary supplies onto shore. None of the troops were dressed in Rubber Tires uniforms, but the more passive attire of dock workers. Dock workers with assault rifles and light armored vests and tactical radio networks. Moving a small headquarters fleet of unarmored civilian vehicles in the vanguard, Leif sent his first detachment towards the outskirts of Asrbah to see what the situation looked like.

The Morotanian position had never looked bleaker. The C-130 convoy that was meant to be bringing such essentials such as MREs, Sandbags and Light Armour never got to the drop zone.

Stressed and exhausted, the Marine Commander peered out of the window and his observer whispered:

"I've got contacts, Ca'ain. They look like civvies. But they're armed. What do we do?"

"Leave it to me, son. Leave it to me."

The commander grabbed a bullhorn from the heavily depleted kit he had at the side of him, and shouted at the armed civillians approaching

"DROP YOUR WEAPONS. THIS CITY IS UNDER MOROTANIAN AUTHORITY- WE ARE HERE FOR YOUR BENEFIT AND MEAN NO HARM. IF YOU DO NOT DROP YOUR WEAPONS WE WILL BE FORCED TO FIRE UPON YOU!"

The Captain in charge of the convoy of "civilian" vehicles watched a man bellowed through a bullhorn in the general direction of him and his vehicles. Speaking into his hand-held radio, he ordered the convoy to halt and slowly dismounted. Him and his contingent of twelve logistics and supplies officers carefully checked their surroundings and assessed the basic defenses of Morotanian forces. Looking up at the Morotanian lines, staggered out in their defensive positions, he slowly took his LED signal light and coded a quick identifier morse code towards the officer with the bullhorn. A quick hand gesture to his contingent to tell them to stay by their vehicles, and he places his assault rifle on the ground.

"I am Captain Lewistairn of Rubber Tires land. I am going to approach your position. We bring good tidings from our land."

Approaching the weary looking Commander, he outstretches a simple document outlying the general agreement to supply medical surplus and food surpluses to his troops. It also outlines several governing articles which allow the Commander to oversee joint manuevers should the need arise. All in all, twelve tons of preserved food, three tons of fresh fruit, two and a half tons of medical supplies to include antibiotics and pain medication are being unloaded at the port and will be available within two hours if the alliance is accepted. Ammunition and the KSU-34 AAA Batteries are to be delivered with the main battalion, still staged by the port.

The Captain turns around to one of the dock workers by the first SUV and makes a subtle motion. The dock worker places his assault rifle on the ground and takes an oak box out of the backseat and trots up the Captain. the Captain opens it towards the Commander revealing a single malt scotch aged over twenty years. "This is compliments of Leif Geringer, commander of 3rd Hobotian Battalion. I trust we have the preliminaries established?"

The Marine Commander was amazed. He hadn't had a stiff drink for about 12 months. He decided that now was a good time to celebrate.

"Your health, comrade!" The two men drunk. The bottle was passed around.

Later on, the talk grew more serious.

"We must set up checkpoints in this city. We've been hit by airstrikes and I was due an AAA battery. Needless to say, it never got here. Once we're dug in we can think about sending in some scouts."
Rubber Tires
14-06-2006, 16:27
The Captain nodded, letting the warm scotch sit in his stomach. "Once the main body is linked up here, we can set up our six KSU-34 AAA Batteries in strategic locations about the positions. Our three standard light infantry companies should be able to provide good-enough support for your major roadways and arteries and the Armored Troop Carrier platoon should offer a quick reaction force in case of enemy contact. I will inform Commander Geringer that everything is situated." Nodding to one of the dock workers by the parked SUVs, a long whip antenna is quickly extended and encrypted traffic commences. After about twenty seconds the worker runs up to the Captain and informs him in an emotionless tone that the 3rd Hobotian Bn and all supplies are en route. Estimated time of arrival is 45 minutes.

"You understand, sir, that all our troop carriers and infantry have been disguised as humanitarian forces sent from another UN force. Once we are in-place, my Commander was wondering if we could borrow some paint to properly cover up the blue and white with more suitable camoflage tones. Oh, and my Commander wanted to let you know that tonight we shall have to dine on the fine perishable food first, so as to not let it spoil. Which will include a fine meal for all of your men whom I guess have not seen one in a bit of time."

Before the Rubber Tires Captain could look at him incredulously, his Morotanic counterpart laughed.

"Submersible aircraft carrier. Doesn't work very well a lot of the time and only carries about 4 heavily modified Tornado fighter bombers, but it does us for light role."

The Morotanic Marines gathered around when their Commander summoned them later on. "I want paint. I don't care where you get it from, so long as we can camouflage those vehicles over there."

"Aye, Cap'ain!"

"Then you eat food better than your Mothers could've cooked. Except yours maybe, Martinez. Dismissed!"

On the northern shore, the fleet beached with its landing craft. Within half an hour the Felucan 9th Armored Division was rolling forward on a 30 mile front, backed up by the 11th and 13th Mechanized Divisions. Like the angry fist of a god, this formation would soon link up with the IX Airborne Corps already on the ground.

This presented around 475 M1A1 Gryphon (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10213872&postcount=21) and close to 100 M2 Chimera (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10933663&postcount=59) MBTs. Around a thousand APCs and three hundred or so M10 Redwood IFVs (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10214020&postcount=22) would be supporting the front.

An Air Cavalry Division was unloading itself under the protection of a MEU, which would be in charge of holding down the north.

--------

The lead batallion of tanks came dashing over the hard-packed desert, throwing up a massive cloud of dust. The lead batallion was a spearhead, supported by two 'wings' formed by the other two batallions of that brigade. The second brigade of armor was swinging around to the west even now, chased by dozens of infantry tracks as they sought to secure the western flank of Falid.

Colonel Zek rolled into Falid atop an M10, then hopped down and saluted the Hydrac commander. Zek was a large, cigar-chomping bear anthro wearing a jump trooper's harness and airborne insignia on his shoulders. "Don't give 'em time to breath. The 9th Armored is pushing forward now, and I've got two heavy batallions of artillery up north setting up. I request that you get what's left of your equipment refueled and join us for the drive south against those Confed bastards."

----

Overhead, a squadron of F-1 Hawks struck from above. They came in high, above AAA fire and simply let their GBU and JDAMs go from a stand-off range of about 6 miles. Gravity and microadjustments by the bombs themselves would do the rest. Seventy seconds later, dozens of 1,000lb bombs began to fall on the Confederacy's positions.

The F-1 Hawks were more than eager to engage in an arial battle. Even after having dropped their stand-off bombs and turned away to head back to base, they'd turn right around for the combat.

From a range of around 40 miles, the Hawks volley-launched their AIM-1 Fang (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10212873&postcount=9) missiles. The Fangs oriented their aquisition radars onto the enemy Gnats, determining range, bearing and interception.

The Fangs continued onwards, until at about 10 miles out their boosters shut down. No more smoke trails with which to be tracked. Making microadjustments to the fins, the warheads aimed themselves at individual targets and by 20 meter proximity fuses, would explode. They didn't need a contact hit to destroy targets. 40lbs of fragmentary HE would handle that.

The F-1 Hawks meanwhile, having launched a volley of 30 of those weapons turned away again, going afterburner and letting the Fangs guide themselves. Effectively fire-and-forget weapons.

The Felucans weren't buffing. At all. Each of the Cyan class destroyers carried 96 SAMs. And the F-35 doesn't have much in the way of a defense against multiple-spectrum anti-aircraft missiles.

In a wave of flame and smoke, the Cyan ships opened up. A total of 360 (Not firing all the SAMs) would reach out, the navalized version of the AAM-1 Sparrow (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10217739&postcount=37). Clusters of the missiles would begin to explode among the circling F-35s, even going as far as to chase after the enemy jets. It was just foolish to have the F-35s so close to the Felucans to begin with.

And at the stupidly easy range of 500 feet, the Broadsword class gunships opened up. Their 15 seperate 13 inch (330mm) guns swiveling to point at the super-close enemy ships, then pounding away in a rapid-fire volley of more than 600 rounds per minute. More than enough to devestate the surface combatants within seconds.

A wave of Mark40 torpedos, Stake ASMs and Archer Cruise Missiles lept from their racks from the Jade class guided missile cruisers, reaching out for the VERY close.. point-blank enemy ships.

The Felucan group commander chuckled, "They got so close before threatening to push forward. What were they thinking?" He watched from his CIC as the Broadsword cruisers surged forward among the enemy ships, ripping away at them with the 13 inch guns.

The Cobra class missile frigates could very easily see the enemy, smoke and all. They focused their gunsights on the remaining enemy ships, and ripple-fired their Stake anti-ship missiles.

The Stakes are the equivilent of the Harpoon .. keel-breakers. More than explosives in each to completely wreck a ship. The Cobras went to hydrofoil mode, speeding around the sides of the enemy formation, volley-firing Stake ASMs and cruise missiles.

The Broadsword Class cruisers cut directly through the enemy fleet, using their sensors to aim. This point-blank range was stupidly easy for ships designed to fire over-the-horizon. Their big guns leveled out and focused on the enemy aircraft carrier, pounding away with the 13 inchers.

OOC: Uhm. 13 inch guns punch holes in ships. They don't cause .. huge fireballs or something. Secondly.. I should be taking mass casulties from .. what? You said your ships were shooting. Shooting what? At which ships? I can only assume you're using standard naval cannons.

IC:

The Felucans, being all faster ships could easily avoid being rammed. They were all moving better than 30 knots already, and simply staying out of range of the ramming, they would cut loose with anti-ship missiles again to finish off the enemy ships chasing them. (You can't ram a ship that is faster than your own.)

The Felucan fleet gathered itself, some of them smoking and smoldering from various hits. One of the Cobra frigates was listing to the side while a Jade class pulled up alongside and helped it remain afloat.

The Felucan group commander stood in his CIC still, looking over charts. "Their transports have moved north. We'll stay here for an hour and get our casulties taken care of."

An aide looked up, "Captain, what about the enemy?"

They looked out the windows over the devestated enemy fleet, the thousands of survivors still in the water clinging to debris or in life jackets.

The Captain snorted. "Leave them. If any get too close, gun 'em. Otherwise, look after our own."

And that was that.

Out at sea, many miles away from the Marines entrenched in Asrba, MSL Barracuda surfaced at last, revealing a rather ugly and long snout.

"Attention! Attention Ghost One, This is Barracuda. Tornados on stand by. Request orders. Out."

The Marines cheered over in Asrba. Admist the laughter, the Comms Operator received a thank you and was informed that all was quiet in the city as of 2141 hours. Reinforcements- another squad of Marines, specifically, were requested, and this was put forward to Morotania Forward Command.

By nightfall, yet another C-130 was en route to Asrba. Painted Black, it was almost invisible to the naked eye in the twilight hours; the only give away was the distinctive drone of the four turbo props.

The Morotanians were preparing for a counter assault on the Blackhelm Confederacy Units stationed nearby...

The landing vessels stalled their engines, and reported the request to Rear-Admiral Nortonski.

Upon the bridge of the Iconoclast, Notonski contemplated the request, and in a few moments, had arrived at a resolution. He ordered the landing vessels to withdraw beyond small arms range of the beach, and then directed the 5 aircraft carriers, and 8 battleships, to bombard the beach. David Du'Font smashed the glass on his desk, he picked out nthe few larger shards of the clear object and looked back at the two sheets of paper he held in his good hand, the first was an apology from an errant friendly fire attack, Du'Font held grudges well past due and he would not easily forget this one, he signed and wrote a letter accepting the apology anyway and went onto the next letter, it was an offer for the surrender of his forces, he would not want Toopoxia to become another nations bitch but he also didn't want to see his state crumble because of such a small nation, at least he would get some of the fortune to cover the losses from his attack, he signed and sealed a letter accepting the surrender.

(OOC: this isn't over yet, oh no)

At the head of Morson Air Force Base, Morotania, the senior commanders onboard each aircaft uploaded the co-ordinates to Falid Air Base. Reinforcements were en route.

"Damn. Hope those cowards don't get all frenchy on us and start surrendering before we even cross the border for some good old-fashioned ass kicking."

The crew of the Chimera nodded somberly. Looks like another case of the political jitters.

Toopoxian Border, Village of Abdil

Col. Banks, commander of the Hydac 2nd Brigade, sat in the back of his command jeep and rode through the badly shelled town. Wrecked civillian cars and military vehicles were shattered about. His recon scren had already swept the town and established outposts near the border. If the enemy tried to attack his men was ready, but he hoped they stayed on their side, at least until he was ready to take the fight to their soil. He got out of his jeep and met with the ranking member of the small band of Border Rangers who had survived the invasion at this point.

Sgt. Faheed, the ranking Ranger was covered in dirt and had a nasty gash on his forehead. The two men began to speak in Arabic.

"Are your men up for it is to come?"

"Yes, there are only 11 of us left and we have no heavy weapons though."

"You'll get more weapons and we could use all the men we can get."

With that the two men shook hands, and went back to their commands to prepare.

Corporate forces decided to launch a raid on Abdil, a small village just across the border. The only artillery to survive, 4 Katyushas, opened up, showering the ton in rockets. About 1,000 infantrymen rushed over the border, along with 25 tanks. The Mi-2 fired its rockets, and quickly zipped back across the border.
Hydac
15-06-2006, 00:13
Even though the troops were dug in, the incoming rockets still destroyed several vehicles and most of the buildings still standing and inflicted moderate losses. Yet again Hydacan artillery launched counterbattery fire missions on the surviving rocket launchers. The retreated Mi-2 was quickly targeted and nearly 20 SAMs were launched at it as it attempted to flee.

The brigade hadn't had time to lay mines or wire but they were still ready for an attack. The brigade's artillery and mortars opened up on the attacking forces.

The tanks were quickly targeted by by TOW missle armed M113s and shoulder fired Javelin missles. Five machine nests along the edge of town opened fire and sniper teams hidden in the ruined buildings chose their targets and fired.

Along the attackers left flank, the Hydacans attacked with 4 M60s and 8 Centaur APCs loaded with infantry. The vehicles poured 20mm cannon and 105mm tank rounds into the Corporate forces.

The chopper exploded into a ball of flames, as did the surviving Katyushas, but not before firing one last rocket volley. The 4 lead t-55's exploded as the anti-tank weapons fired into them. The remaining tanks focused their main guns on the Hydac armor, while the machine guns on top opened up at the infantry.

Corporate soldiers charged into the village. Grenades flew towards the machine gun nests. A heavy smokescreen was layed out to interfere with the snipers. A number had fallen from the tanks and machine gun fire, but they continued to press on.

The return fire destroyed 2 tanks and 3 APCs, but there were plenty more left in reserve.

With the Corporate troops pulled in close, the brigade counterattacked. A company of 15 tanks attacked on each side of the attacking force, this caught the surviving T-55s in a crossfire. Anti-tank missles continued to pour from the town and artillery rained on the surviving tanks. As the now unsupported infantry entered the town, a dozen APCs rolled down the main street blazing away with their 20mm cannons and coaxial machine guns. The Centaurs had FLIR sights, so the smoke grenades had no real effect on their aim.

The corporate forces fired their RPG-7's into the APC's. The dry desert air was now filled with the screams of both rocket and man. Other's fired the grenade launchers under their weapons under the vehicles, as they dove into nearbby buildings and behind wreckage for cover. The Griffincrest soldiers set up numerous machine gun positions in the ruins, and fired into the Hydac troops with devastating hails from their Negevs and RPK's. Other groups formed RPG nests, and fired into the Chimeras.

One corporate mercnary darted out of an alley as an APC passed. As he went, he tossed an HE grenade under the treads of the vehicle. He was shot to pieces by a Hydac machine gunner, but he wold die heroically

The Centaurs were damaged by the RPG attacks, but their applique armor allowed most of the APCs to survive.

Additional tanks and APCs moved around the outskirts of the town and poured fire into the remaining tanks and infantry still trying to enter the town. As for the troops already in town, Hydacan infantry began to clear the town building by building more armored vehicles deployed in a skirmish line just south of town.

This command went out to the all of the corporate soldiers in the area. The army in Toopoxia fell back into the country to defend the capitol, should a counter attack be launched for what was about to happen.

The soldiers in the town flipped on their gas masks. Griffincrest knew this would not be good politcally, but he was not a politician. The soldiers in the town all pulled out small canister, and pulled out the pins. They then rolled the canisters throughout the town. A thick haze filled the streets. The Felucans of course, heard of this over the radio network. It served only one purpose. It enraged them. They'd heard stories from The Big Island, of the 7th Light Infantry taking heavy casulties from a gas attack. And well.. this was just too much.

The III Armored Corps went over the berm, a platoon of IFVs leading the assault, dashing forward at top speed simply to catch up with the Corporate soldiers as they began to retreat from Hydrac back into Troopoxia, coming in from the north-west with guns firing.

The rapid-fire cannons on the Redwood IFVs cut towards any vehicles they could find to cripple the retreat of the corporate scum, while Gryphon tanks followed up and infantry began to dismount from their tracks, an overwhelming firepower coming to bear.

The C-141s took off and were met by the Tornados from the submarine Barracuda. This would most likely be the only action the Tornados would get for the campaign, so the pilots were making the most of it.

The APCs and Scout cars, along with the lone Centurion tank, scrambled away from Falid airbase, loaded with Marines. Five minutes later, the engine on the Centurion had expired. It ground to a halt, and the tank commander cursed like a sailor.

Two hours later, the Centurion had been stripped and loaded onto a C-141, and the lead FV432 had received a small field upgrade; the Browning .30cal from the Centurion had been mounted, adding that little bit extra firepower to the APC.

The CH-47s from Asrba had also arrived, and after the Marine squad had eaten and rested for a few hours, they were loaded into a FV432 and driven to Toopoxia.

The second phase of the assault had commenced...

The Border

The corporate troops expected a counter attack, and once more rolled Lewisite canisters at their enemy. Only this time, they also rolled canister of Corromis at the Felucans. Fot those of you not familiar with Corromis, it is sold by PRA and eats through NBC gear. This would give the corporate soldiers time to retreat, as well as deal the Felucans a blow.

The Felucan infantry at the gas alarms would simply climb back into their tracks and shut the hatches. The IFVs handled the rest.

The IFVs blew straight through the canisters and in many cases ran them over. Corromis or not, it wouldn't be eating through the composite armor on an infantry fighting vehicle.

The Redwoods burst out of the gas clouds, their 30mm chainguns firing away in steady, thumping bursts as they specificly targeted the enemy vehicles first to cripple them, as the Gryphon MBTs rolled forward and cut loose with their rounds often from 3 to 4 kilometers away.

The rifle hatches on the sides of the infantry carriers remained closed.

Javelin missiles slammed through the gas clouds into the IFV's. This was Toopoxia now, and the Coporate soldiers had their heavy weapons. RPG holes scattered the area, and RPG flew in from just out of the clouds. Now that the infantry was unusable, the Anti-tank weapons would be all that much more effective.

Anti-tank mines were layed all around Toopoxia, Lewisite positions and Javelin nests were assembled, and the remaining Corporate airforce landed at the capitol.

OOC: So you're saying, your soldiers can enter Hydrac .. enter a city, fight, leave the city.. retreat clear into Toopoxia, (stopping along the way to dick around with gas of course) get their heavy weapons together and form an effective defensive force ... ALL in the time that it takes my troops to drive like 4 miles doing 50mph? My post was to catch your guys as they left the city. I made sure to target your vehicles, specificly so that you'd not be able to get away.

2) Okay. Still, how long does it take a soldier to run 5 miles? I garuntee my fighting vehicles cross the same terrain a LOT faster.

3) Of course not. However, Felucan equipment has filtration systems that defeat the types of gasses you so-far have specified.

Meanwhile, the Toopoxian mortar brigade had arrived with the Corporate forces, and they began opening up on the Felucan tanks as well, from well within the Toopoxian border.

Other corporate troops began building poorly constructed Qassam-style rockets. These were launched not only at Felucan troops, but also at Hydacan towns all along the border.

He quickly dove into a hastily built bunker near the CP. "Damn fools are at it again," he muttered to the command staff.

Within 45 seconds, the newly repositioned artillery was getting counterbattery fire missions from the brigades FireFinder radar teams. Soon 105mm gowitzer rounds were streaking in on the mortar positions and the launch points for the homemade rockets the Corporate troops were firing. The rockets were inaccurate and unrealiable but packed a big warhead. One of them hit and destroyed a M60 just 50 meters from the CP.

The Felucans of course.. noted the RPG teams as they began to fire. From a range of around 1,100 meters, it was rather tough to hit a target moving 50 miles per hour.

Even still, vehicles began to take hits. Their turrets swiveled around, obliterating individuals with the 30mm cannons. (Ever seen what a 30mm HE round does to a person? Heh.. hamburger. Literally.)

Now clear of gas attacks, the rifle slits on the sides of the Pinetree infantry tracks opened up and the infantry began to fire out.

The Gryphon MBTs were arriving by now, just as mortar rounds began to fall among the advancing armored line. Several Gryphons were struck, but for the most part their armor held. In a couple of cases, tracks were knocked off and the tank immobilized. They would continue to fire with their main guns however.

One Gryphon was completely disabled and its crew killed or injured as a mortar round fell directly on the hatch and burst through the thinner armor there.

However, the IFVs and infantry tracks sprinted forward under the mortar attacks, closing the distance to less than 500 meters, (Staying back a little bit so Hydrac's counter-artillery doesn't hit them) where their guns could really just tear apart whatever was left of this particular retreating force.

Stopping to fire RPGs and mortars meant death. Running meant death. Those mercenaries really should have brought some vehicles.

Rubber Tires Special Forces platoon moves up into position along the border. The sniper teams, using multiple algorithmic encryptions, transmit that they are in position. In the distance, they see remnants of the gas clouds echo over the dirt and tumbleweeds.

"Lewisite," one of the soldiers mutters, "horrible stuff...Until it diffuses, then its ecologically friendly."
"I don't think the Toopaxians are trying to be ecologically friendly, Smithers," snaps the sergeant, "now move into position."

Team 1 carefully begins planting explosives across the major roadway leading into southern Toopaxia. The victim operated devices detect pressure (underfoot or undertrack or undertire) and initiate massive daisy-chained detonations across the road, effectively splitting the road into segments. After thirty minutes, the charges are emplaced successfully.

Team 2 moves into the small border town on the Toopaxian side, dressed as a group of locals escorting a sheik (PFC Smithers). They nonchalantly move into the town and take up residence inside the village. Setting up disguised communications gear, they begin monitoring operations and de-encryption of Toopaxian military traffic.

Team 1 moves into defensive positions, spread out in the horizon, splitting up into three sniper teams consisting of two men each.

Team 3 begins assembling a mortars tube.

At 0430D hrs, Special Forces platoon from Rubber Tires will effectively initiate an attack that looks to be perpetuated from Toopaxian natives onto Toopaxian military forces patrolling the vicinity. The target is a Toopaxian military logistics convoy travelling with tankloads of fuel and ammunition. Hostages are recommended but not necessary. Eggress route will be across the major roadway. Team 2 will remain in place to continue monitoring and exploiting enemy message traffic. As of right now, they are downloading the de-encryption software in a local internet cafe, under the guise of surfing local religious websites. The locals suspect nothing other than a local lower noble is around the area, visiting his tribe.

Team 3 hears the rumbling of armored trucks roll down the road. Setting up a mortar tube they make their last minute adjustments. Three soldiers set up explosives along the convoy route (not the major highway crossing between Toopaxia and Hydac) while two more take aim with their infrared scoped grenade launchers. Six set up in defensive positions to cover the rest. One sets up communications with Team 1, who waits with eggress vehicles to escape. No one maintains comms with Team 2. Team 2 sends a guarded transmission to the Commander of Morotania detailing a confirmation code for the mission.

At 0430D, Commander Geringer of the 3rd Hobotian Bn recieves a coded signal indicating the mission was a success. No casualties. Two Toopaxian officers were captured. Team 2 is still undiscovered. Team 1 and 3 are eggressing back to the Morotanian camp.

The mortar teams stopped firing and pulled back with the rest of the corporate army.

The few surviving corporate raiders came over the border, with Felucan IFV's not to far behind.

Commander Geringer stood there in the silence, standing alone on the berm as Morotania sent their advance party off towards the airfield. Picking up his sat phone, he called over to the communications officer.

The scout cars pulled out with guns blazing, the vehicles had flat tires and pockmarked armor, but they could still drive.

It was only a matter of time before word of the Coporate breakthough was recieved. The 1st Cavalry Regiment and 1st Mech Brigade quickly moved into blocking positions and set to work imporving the already formidable defenses.
Extensive belts of mines, ditches, and barbed wire were established. A total of 36 105mm and 18 newly arrived 155mm howitzers as well as hundreds of mortars were presighted on the approaches to the Hydacan lines. The Hydacan troops were busy preparing ATGMS, machine gun nests, and a few old 100mm AT guns that were retrieved from storage. The Corporate mercs would come, and they would die here for the greed of Griffincrest.

As the mercenaries pushed through on the already opened passageway, almost a half dozen other pushes were made on Hydacan lines. The men already in the country pulled a quick hook, and caught a Hydacan brigade on the border in a heavy crossfire, as the near 3000 infantry fired from the north, and 100 T-55's and 2000 infantry layed into them from the south. Death also hit the brigade from above, as mortar and Qassam fire was being concentrated there.

Our recon elements have detected sizable Corporate ground forces attmpting to advance though a gap in our defense. Almost 100 Corporate Gnats lifted off from their airbases in Toopoxia to intercept the Hydacan forces. These pilots were veterans from fighting Kulikovo.

On the ground, the force sent to attack the Felucan armord division thundered on, and, unfired upon, et loose with their 100mm mian gun into the Felucan armor. RPG also took aim, as did Javelin missiles, and fired at the enemy armor. The infantry spewed out of their vehicles, and began firing a managerie of anti tank weapons at their enemy.

At the Hydac engagment, the raiders rolled on, blasting away at the paramilitary vehicles, and heading deeper into Hydac. Behind them, a large portion of the Corporate army was moving in, using this passage as an entry way into the country.

Oddly enough, the Felucans simply kept on going. Their fuel tanks were topped off, and by the time the enemy crested the berm, the Felucans would be out of their weapons range. The corporate forces would have to catch up before they could do anything with their guns and AT equipment.

And well, as the corporate soldiers chased after the 11th Armored Division, the rest of III Armored Corps would be moving now. The 8th Armored, 12th Mechanized and 14th Mechanized turned, curling their lines around to follow the same path that the enemy had taken.

The 11th Armored slowed to a halt at the third and final line of defense, really just foxholes and hull-down positions for the vehicles. As the corporate enemy caught up, the Felucans took their defenses and turned weaponry towards the foe.

And while the lead vehicles crossed that 4 kilometer mark.. the Gryphon tanks opened up with their 120mm main guns, reaching out with shattering accuracy.

----

For the air battle, the Felucans committed two squadrons (24) F-1 Hawks, which joined with the Hydrac air power to support them in holding dominance over the sky.

----

Reply Gen. Mahmoud Hadid, Field Commander Hydac 1st Division,
We are sending support now. Please mark your positions with smoke.

---- Minutes later...

An abbreviated attack formation of 21 A-1 Alpha ground-attack jets swept in at high speed, making a quick pass over the battlefield.

"Roger sir, I see them now. Hydrac deploying red smoke."

They then preformed a second pass over the war zone. This time however, they would be dropping heavy ordance. That cluster of 3,000 corporate infantry firing from the north? They recieved dozens of cluster bombs at first, the sort set to explode 5 meters or so off the ground, so that even hiding in a foxhole wouldn't help.

The second wave however.. was the Felucan's latest tactic. Napalm canisters.

Dropping down out of the sky came 69 canisters, 2,000lb napalm bombs that exploded at 10 meters off the ground, producing massive waves of liquid, clinging flame that swept through corporate positions in the north.

The Felucans would send one armored division and one mechanized in persuit of the corporate unit.

Meanwhile, the F-1 Hawks not involved in the air battle simply crossed over the border, heading towards the airfields the Gnats had taken off from. One must remember.. jets need to land somewhere.

Passing over the airfields, bombs were dropped. Loads of 500lb bombs, which would splatter over the airfields and runways. Make the runways worthless and well.. the Gnats would have nowhere to land. And since all the Gnats were in Hydrac.. there was nothing to stop the Hawks.

Typical combat height for the Alpha is around 26,000 to 30,000 feet. That's more than 7 kilometers up. The RPGs wouldn't reach even a third of that distance.

The SA-11s would have more of an effect, however. Several aircraft were struck or suffered collateral damage from nearby explosions. A half dozen aircraft fell from the sky, while the others hit afterburner and flipped on jammers, their mission accomplished but getting clear of the combat zone for the time being.

The 6th Air Cavalry sent forward their B Troop, a batallion of AH-1 Tiger attack helicopters. Staying low to the ground, 'under the horizon' of RADAR while sniffing about with their sensitive equipment. It was time to deal with the SAM threat.

Not sending, but recieving.. the Tigers were basicly invisible out there in the desert, beyond visual range but picking up on corporate SAM RADARs. 12 of the AH-1s flipped on their AGM-3 HARM missiles at the range of 30 miles. The missile heads immedietly detected RADAR emissions. The gunners of the helicopters began to pull triggers.

The AGM-3 gives no emissions of its own. They do not track by emitting. They track by recieving. Thus, there would be pretty much no warning as 48 AGM-3 HARM rockets came streaking in from the north, each one seeking an individual RADAR emitter. SAMs, guided flak, and RADAR vehicles.

---

Meanwhile, the two divisions sent after the corporate breakthrough were merely a distraction. They weren't really trying to catch up as much as they were just keeping the enemy moving, and thus not able to really stop and think. They'd stay back out of weapons range, and when the corporate soldiers actually stopped to fight.. the Felucans simply turned and went away.

The real assault was about to begin.

Abdil

The 1st Mech Brigade TOC was buzzing with reports of contact from the outlying picket screens. Col. Banks was hunched over a map board coordinating the withdrawal of the brigade to a more secure defense along the Mathid Ridge, 13 km northeast of town. His 1st Battalion and much of the brigade trains were already there and 2nd Battalion had almost completed its move as well.

Three hours later, as the last of the brigade's combat units pulled out of sight of town, 5 black Toyota SUVs entered the town and pulled up to five preselected buildings. The men who got out wore civillian clothes, but were heavily armed with G36s and wore advanced body armor.

Two men went to the back of each SUV and pulled out a large gray case. The men carried the cases to the tops of the buildings and rigged them with tamperproof fuses attached to Claymore mines. They then armed the devices and drove out of town, just as the first Corporate troops began moving into sight.

1.5 Kilometers North of Abdil

The three men sitting in the SUV were lightly equipped. In addition to their rifles they had binoculars and a satellite phone.

They had a surprise for the mercs.

The men in the SUV watched the mercs search the deserted town. When they were satisified thay enough mercs were in town, the man in the passenger seat dialed a single number in the sat phone. The signal went out to five specially configured pagers at once.

Abdil

The signal triggered the devices in the five case to activate.

The tops of the boxes blew off with a dull thud and the large, metal cylinders inside began to spew a white mist of fluid all over town. One minute later the boxes exploded as each one set off a 20 pound thermite charge, the thermite detonated the mist, which was little more than light jet fuel, and a massive fireball consumed the town. The explosion from the fuel air bombs unleashed five massive fireballs that covered the area. The town would soon burn at over 1,500 degrees Farenheit, it was highly unlikely anything would survive.

Toopoxican P2 fighters have been launched to engage the enemy AH-1's who recently fired missiles into Toopoxican sovreign territory, they will take off from Lunin air-base and will arrive shortly.

The AH-1 Tigers followed through with proceedure. After having fired off their AGM-3 HARMs, they simply turned north and went back into the secure area of northern Hydrac.

The P2s however.. would be moving directly into a missile trap. A handful of Longbow-B SAMs waited with their sensors off, just shapeless debris in the endless desert, such as they were with camo netting. Engines off, sensors off.

As the P2s crossed overhead in persuit of the AH-1s however, the Longbow systems activated. Covers flipped open on the missile racks, RADAR going active and a wave of Sparrow SAMs streaking up into the sky, chasing after the bellys of the P2s, which were by now straight overhead. The belly of an aircraft gives a much richer target for SAMs to lock onto, as opposed to a head-on run.

----

Meanwhile further south near the border, the Behemoth tanks following the Felucans saw only track marks from where the Felucans withdrew, staying out of engagement range.

Occasionally a scout vehicle would slow down and wait for the corporate soldiers to catch up, and just before reaching gun range.. the Redwood IFV would speed up again to keep ahead, keeping an eye on the enemy.

The corporate vehicles.. after a hundred miles or so would begin to find clusters of empty fuel trucks, completely drained.
