Alternative sources for energy

Kiwanistan

After the ridiculous increase in price of oil we have witnessed in the past couple of months, and the monopoly of oil production by a handful of nations and international companies which are profiting from the crisis in oil producing nations to maintain a high price of oil, Kiwanistan has decided to seriously look into alternative energy sources. Kiwanistan is funding research into other energy sources not only to generate electrecity but also for cars/planes... Being a small nation we would appreciate any help we could get from more advanced nations. We want all non-producing countries to unite in their fight against the greedy oil cartel.

Sincerely
Boutros Ghali
Kiwanistan's minister of energy and natural resources.

Upper Weston uses a combination of hydroelectric, nuclear, and coal for our power grid. We have also shifted most of our vehicular consumption over to biodiesel. As a result we are largely free of oil imports.

We would be more than happy to assist you in your efforts to achieve energy indendence in exchange for economic coniderations.

Apocolypia has recently located a large supply of Uranium, which could be used in power plants worldwide. We also have many companies developing hydrogen-powered engines for transportation.

Our borders remain open for free trade, if you are interested.

Your assistance in our efforts to limit our dependence on imported foreign oil would be greatly appreciated.
What would be the cost of shifting vehicular consumption from oil to biodiesel and what economic considerations would you be expecting in exchange?

Thank you for your offer.
Are you looking for a monetary payment in exchange of your engines?

Wolfensland has been researching alternative means of energy since 1950 and have been producing Hydrogen-powered Wankel engines since 1975. Since 1995, when the government has begun enforcing the Fuel Fossil Ban, all Wolfenslandic ground vehicles are being powered by hydrogen. We have also been experimenting with H2 Powered aircraft, however this system is Highly Classified. We can offer you Hydrogen-powered engines in all sizes and power ratings, plus the complete fuel injection and storage system's plans and parts for your vehicles and also plans and materials for the building of four large Biomass Pyrolysis or Autothermal Reforming of Methane Hydrogen Generation Plants, each capable of generating as much as 300 tons of hydrogen per day.

The Usean Union has also been fossil fuel free since our liberation in 1988 and have been using biodiesel,Nuklear and wood.I know what you are thinking about that last one,yet Usea has strick guidlines about it's trees. We also have a varriation of the Turbo jet engine that uses biodiesel.

My Nation does not have to worry about these high prices. This nation is run on 99.9% wind, solar, and tide power souces we would be happy to share some of are public information but none of are secrets

We can provide a tiered multi- source renewable energy pattern for your nation. First we will build offshore wind farms, and ocean thermal energy converters. As we move closer to shore we would build wave energy generators. Once we were on shore we would build a special power system that combined solar roofs and wind turbines which would feed into a biomass fuel cell battery system. Three power sources linked together for efficiency.
To replace oil we would build you biorefineries that provided multiple products from a variety of feed stocks, corn, wood chips, sugar cane, and other biomass. These would produce chemicals, biofuels, feed stocks for animals, and bioplastics. We would augment this with geothermal energy and large wind farms. This is at the MT level. We would also provide hybrid electric biofuel electric cars, trains, and boats. We would realign your jet commercial craft to use soya based jet fuel. This will have a considerable cost if you are interested.

Tidal Generation of power took us time but it payed off. Basicly we have large wheels under the waters surface The power of the moving water turns the Light weight wheel(s) which turns the generator. Under ground cables carry the power to a power regulation/Distrobution station

We have a number of ocean energy sources. If you are in a warm water area you might want to try ocean thermal energy generators. They generator energy by using the temperature differential between deep and shallow water. Basically circulating the warmer water up to generate heat which is turned into electricity. We also have developed something that looks like a wind turbine which is put near the coastal sea bottom, this is much like a wind mill. A larger turbine can be powered in open water providing a round fan like system.

The cost is quite limited, any diesel engine can burn biodiesel without modification, the cost is in acquiring the necessary equipment to transform corn, wheat, cooking grease, etc. into biodiesel and the cost of planting and maintaining the necessary crops.

Although it may not help with your vehicle fuel problems, we suggest you put osme time into researching cold fusion. We feel that it's the [pwoer of the future. One pwer plant would be enoguh to power and entire city. As for car fuel, we recommend using hybrieds. Although, they still use fuel. OF course, that can be solved. You could use hemp for fuel, you know.

We will watch with interest this thread... there are many like it in the archives. Nevertheless, new takes on old ideas are always interesting.

We wish to warn you that alternative sources of energy may be "greener" however, many of them have less obvious drawbacks... ie enviromental degradation. The Tidal generators will alter the natural flow of the tides. The Hydropower plants will flood many valleys as well as cause deposition behind the dams in addition to degrading the natural ecosystem down river. If you have fisheries they will likely hamper fish runs. The great wind farms pose extreme hazards to low flying or migrating flocks... this will be even worse in sensitive nesting grounds close to shores/marshes. Thermal energy transfers may cause upwellings which may actually improve plankton and thus fisheries, however, the long term effect of thermal transfer and possible CO2 release are as of yet uncertain. The geothermal plants suffer from corrosion of piping as well as susiding ground pressure... etc... etc...

Nuclear Power is your best bet save for the radioactive biproducts.

We would recommend Biofuels... along with a mix of the other techs after some careful evaluation of the Pros and Cons.

If you have PMT... consider Spacial Energy resources or Deep Crust/upper mantle technology.

Office of Fissile Material Procurement

We would be most interested in purchasing your entire Uranium reserve; our quarterly demands of fissile material have been falling short, and the situation is beginning to become less-than-ideal. To this effect, we are prepared to offer to buy out your supplies at fair market price; this is, of course, entirely negotiable.

We need only your approval; the fissile material will be mined, packaged, and transported out of your airspace by our men.

We believe you will find this to be a most generous offer, both as an economic boon to your society and a safeguard against warhawks who may view your mineral reserves as a tasty snack for their war machines.

Do be in touch.
