"In an announcement from the capital of Lansing today, President Ford and is supporters have announced the election of Bishop John T. Briggs as the spiritual adviser to the Senate and Assembly.
"The Bishop is the head of the local parish of the Catholic Gnostic Ecclesia, a Gnostic Nazorean religion that has many supporters in the C.N.L.S, and has had a great influence with the government in moral issues and such.
"I hope, with God's blessings, to be of spiritual aid to President Ford in the days and years to come " said Bishop John T. Briggs. "we see this as God's favor in securing our religious, moral and ethical freedom from more conservative groups that have imposed a fundementalist regime of intollerance in the United states of America. While we always have an open hand of fellowship to other, more conservative Christian and religious groups, we must frankly agree to disagree on such issues as gay marriage, ordination of women, abortion and birth control. The Ecclessia's stance on these issues has bene firm; we support the right of individuals to follow their counsciensce as God reveal's it to them through prayer and meditation."
The Ecclesia is a liberal branch of the Nazorean faith, which is a syncrenistic mixture of Jewish, Christian and Neoplatonic beleifs, says experts in comparitive religious studies. Commentators have pointed out that this shift may signal an increasing desire by the Administration to liberalize laws in the Confederacy"
