Emperor Dies, Sadness Spreads Across the Empire

SUPER CITY, MARAQUE (6/7/06) (4/157/562) - Sadness has come across all of the Secular Empire today as reports of the Emperors death spreads.

Emperor Stephen D. Norris reportedly died in a plane crash after leaving the Empires Club in Paradise City, Blackhelm Confederacy. The plane was reportedly over Maraquean waters when it went down.

The Emperors children - who also attended the club - left the country in a separate aircraft and made it to Maraque safely. Tonight they are at the Imperial Palace mourning the death of their father who was widely loved all across the Empire.

The Emperor first began his rule 62 years ago when his father, Emperor Douglas E. Norris died of natural causes. An election followed and the people of the Secular Empire chose Stephen out of him and his two siblings Christopher and Juliane, with a landslide 67% of the vote.

The Emperor used his time in office expanding the civil rights in the country, being the main writer of the constitution which he based his rulings on. The constitution has sealed the future civil rights of citizens everywhere with an amendment that prohibits the revision of the constitution as long as it is legible. He also cracked down on big corporations and used his ultimate rule to make sure that big corporations don't own the people, but the people own the corporation. He also banned the practice of Maraque-based corporations from outsourcing to cheaper nations.

Traditionally in Maraquean culture the body of the deceased is usually cremated or sealed in a casket and buried while the family hosts a banquet in remembrance of the loved one. This event is called a Pass, and is traditionally performed on the 8th day of the week. (OOC: there are 8 days in a Maraquean week)

Vice Emperor Keiffer S. Braun will temporarily take the reigns of power as the Emperors children prepare for the election to succeed their father.

Maraque and Jagite relations have never been even close to friendly--for obvious reasons. Though the people of Jagada have not made their hearts cold and dull towards your people. We disagreed with a lot of the policies made by your Emperor. In fact we have come close to armed conflict before. Though I am glad that it did not come down to that--as many lives would be wasted.

In memorial of your Emperor--the Jagite Holiday Council (JHC) will prepare a fireworks display in Christendom to honor your fallen Emperor. May his soul rest in peace.

I feel as if I should have done something that could have prevented this tragedy, although no one had seen this plane crash coming. When he died Siv was elected, hence becoming the most important person in the government. So she had to go into hiding to secure her safety because terrorists seized the Capitol Building and might capture the Imperial Palace aswell.

Siv still has complete communication with the government, so Helena doesn't need to take control of the government.

BREAKING NEWS

ATRONS, MARAQUE (6/13/06) - The Maraquean government has just released a statement that says that Emperor Stephen D. Norris is actually alive.

The statement claims that the news reports of his death just hours after the accident were conducted by false information and that the Emperor is indeed alive.

Tonight he is a patient at Kingdom City Hospital, the most sophisticated and highly advanced hospital in all of the empire. The statement describes his condition as "critically unstable" and say his chance of survival is 25%.

He is suffering from a fractured skull which resulted in massive swelling and bleeding in the brain. He is currently in a medically induced coma. His daughter that assumed the throne just last week will resume power until further notice.
