The Alexandria was an old Ikari class battleship Refit on routine patrol the 1800 meter long ship like most ships of the line since the war had been retrofitted with turbo lasers the ships gracefully moved though the voice and all was normal. She was patrolling 'fringe space' the very borders of Animarnia territory Ikari ships were common and used quite extensively for this role and it was likely when the new Tellus class entered full service most of the old Ikari's would be relegated to guard and patrol duty
Captain Melinda Keegan was in her ready room reading a book when condition 1 sounded bathing the entire ship in crimson red; she entered the bridge; "Report" she commanded.
"Ma'am 7 unidentified ships on attack vector, they just appeared out of no where; looks like 6 light cruisers or cutters and a battleship"
"Show me" the elven captain commanded sitting down in her chair
The view screen zoomed in on the strange looking ships the light cruisers had down swept wings like a bird and a forward nose section. It was mostly green and looked like it was designed for war, it bore the familiar flaming skull and cross bones on its sides thought most of the craft was painted green and measured 350 meters in length and 100 meters wide. The larger what appeared to be a command ship was painted green but darker, obviously heavily armoured it too bore the skull and cross bones and was 900 meters in length, and 470meters wide. It looked had wings pointing backwards and a fork shaped head section; the tips of the wings glowed red
"Space pirates, Ready Alert fighters, power all weapons" she ordered.
The Pirate ships broke formation while the command ship held back, the light cruisers opened fire, the green balls of energy fired from the light cruisers wing mounted cannons striking the Alexandria's shields in sparks of green and blue.
"Shields down to 75% no hull damage"
"Return fire, Forward batteries" she commanded.
The forward Turbo lasers opened fire; the bolts of orange super charged laser hit the light cruisers striking the shields with the force of a Teraton a bolt several of the other turbo lasers turrets came to bare with computerised fire control. Bolts of laser fire between 200 megatons and 500gigatons a burst firing at separate targets.
"Bring us around, full broadside" she ordered.
The Alexandria swung around facing one of the pirate ships side on; the port batteries blazing to life, all targeting the light cruiser; its shields overwhelmed by the sheer ferocity of the attack as the first enemy pirate ship exploded killing all aboard
Two of the remaining ships came around and strafed along the ventral hull of the ship causing more shield damage while another two concentrated fire on the starboard side as another pirate ship was picked off by the turbo lasers.
"Launch Alert fighters, give them some missile cover" she commanded as her ship shook from more enemy fire, the pirates were ferocious and unrelenting.
Missiles spewed from the launchers like coiled springs targeting the enemy ships as the 72 Sabre fighters launched from there tubes and started there attack runs on the light cruisers using anti-ship missiles and rail Vulcan cannons
The Alexandria's turbo lasers picked off another light cruiser turning it into a fireball but not before it did damage to the engines; disabling one of them. One of the enemy ship swung about 3 slow moving green bursts were fired from the nose they honed in on the port launch; the first one hit what was left of the shields, collapsing them in that area the other two scored direct hull hits. The entire port launch exploded obliterating it and any crew.
"Sir we just lost port launch, some kind of energy torpedo, emergency bulk heads have dropped into place sealing off the rest of the ship from the fires"
the Alexandria was now on fire on the port side; well what was left of the part hanger anyway; thankfully it had missed the fuel tanks as the rear batteries picked off another cruiser. The entire arsenal was brought to bare as the port, starboard and forward guns swivelled to get a bead on the last two cruisers ahead; the guns came ablaze with orange turbo laser fire spewing out like a spit fire. The two light cruisers crumpled under the punishment from them, missiles, and anti-ship torpedoes.
The pirate command cruiser moved in to engage; two energy beams fired from its two 'fork' like prongs the shields of the Alexandria already gone the energy beams raked along the starboard side of the ship scoring though layers of armour and causing explosions.
"Return fire, all batteries!" she ordered. Most of the starboard batteries had been destroyed in that last attack but the spinal and ventral turrets turned to lock on and fire; spewing out orange turbo laser bolts as the ship turned to fire its main forward batteries, unleashing a hail of torpedoes and anti-ship missiles. As the ship turn the port batteries were able to lock onto the enemy ship too spewing out a constant blizzard of laser fire the pirate battleship didn't go down easy though. As it brought its full weapon batteries to bare. The two energy beams weapons fired along with the green torpedoes from earlier and pulse weapons
The Alexandria's point defence canons fired picking off the torpedoes continuing its storm of weapons fire; in the end the Alexandria won out but just barely as the pirate cruiser limped away cut and bleeding but leaving the Alexandria scared from battle. Scorch marks littered the spin of the ship, there were deep gouges along the starboard side. The engines were offline, port launch had been completely obliterated. Communications were offline. Point defence was still functional as were three of four of the main batteries but the rest were disabled or destroyed. The Alexandria was crippled and couldn't even send a distress signal home; until communications was restored she would have to wait for a kind passing ship to find her…
OOC: Pirate ships are the Klingon Bird of Prey and a Vor'cha class attack cruiser; not Cannon size cos I wanted to make them a match for the Alexandria, this is wide open.
