Settled in prehistoric times Curlingstan has a rich history. Curlingstan is an island nation with two islands. The western island Yorkston, was settled first, with the capital Koingsburg on the eastern tip. The eastern island, Beijua was settled in 1607 by Septimist missionaries. The city of New Koingsburg was founded on that rear, and currently is the largest city on Beijua.
Religion is a very important part of Curlingstan. The two major religions are Septimism and Islam. Septimism is the worship of the Emperor of Curlingstan, Septim CXXXIV. Islam was introduced by immigrants in 1807. Now through conversions and more immigrants, it is one of the major religions in Curlingstan. Septimism is most predominantly centered in Yorkston, while most Muslims are in Beijua. Both religions have about equal proportions in Koingsburg and New Koingsburg. There has been and still is some violence between both religions. The 3rd largest religion is Christianity, introduced by missionaries in 1952. Wicca, Scientology, and Judaism are tied for 4th largest. There are many other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and, New Religious Movements with small populations. The flag of Curlingstan is the tricolor of gray, white, and green. Gray stands for the Septimists, green is for the Muslims, and white stands for the hopeful peace between the two.
The government of Curlingstan is a constitutional monarchy. The emperor has no power, and holds ceremonial roles. Curlingstan has the traditional separation of powers with legislative, judicial, and executive branches. The Supreme Curlingstan Court has 13 justices, all elected by the people. The Parliament has two houses. The lower house is the House of Representatives, directly elected by the people. There are 500 representatives, changes are after the census held on every 5 years. The House of Delegates is apportioned with 5 representatives for each district. It is also directly elected by the people. The executive branch is headed by Madame President Elaine Johnson and her first lady Marissa Stevens. Mrs. Johnson is the only openly lesbian leader of a major world power. The vice president is Miss. Sultanna Javaid, the first Muslim vice-president of Curlingstan and the highest in Curlingstan political office that any Muslim has held in Curlingstan history.
Curlingstan tries to have a modern military. Our military features nuclear weapons, cruse missiles, satellite weaponry, smart weaponry, and stealth warfare. To prevent attacks (domestic and abroad) Madame Johnson spends over 35% of Curlingstan’s budget on defense. Research and development is an integral part of Curlingstan’s military.
