Triton Class - Trimaran Multi-Role Destroyer
Based on design tested extensively by Qinetiq, formerly UK DERA (Defence Evaluation & Research Agency).
The trimaran design for warships has four key attractions:
1) The slender hull form with the outriggers will give a reduced drag of 20% over an equivalent monohull
2)The lower resistance will permit a reduced machinery fit leading to lower through-life costs
3)The side hulls give greater innate stability offering growth potential and the ability to mount higher above-water sensors to improve early missile detection
4)An increased deck area offers more space for hangars, helicopters and weapons
Qineteq proved the concept with the c.2/3 scale prototype RV Triton. (see below)

The final version of this new class of Destroyer includes lessons learnt from the Type 45 programme and the French Lafayette Class. The superstructure uses clean lines and the sloping tumble-home to reduce radar returns along with extebsive use of radar absorbent materials in construction.

ROV/UAV
Gannet VTOL reconnaissance UAV
• Based on Northrop Grumman's RQ-8A Fire Scout.
Super Scorpio ROV Submersible
This ship was designed to perform a variety of roles from carrier group air-defence to an independent operational capability. In this regard she is equipped to deal with threats from the surface and air as well as subsmarines.
She will provide the flagship of the coastal defence force as well as being suitable for use by Special Operations command and the Battle fleets.
The initial requirement will be for a total of 28 vessels;
8 for the battle fleets, 4 for spec ops and 6 for coastal command.
Cost is projected to be $1.2bn.
