Xantini
03-06-2006, 03:07
Bright blue sky, green grass, tall trees. An average temperature of about 85 degrees and a cool north-blowing breeze.
A perfect day, in other words.
Unless you were Tandu, that is.
To the insectoid populace of Xantini, the world was a pain. Their homeworld had a blue sun, was about twenty degrees cooler on average and the grass was flourescent red ranging to deep blue (with lots of teeth). The atmosphere was far less oxygenated, although this was not so much of a problem as the others.
They had landed on Xantini because they had to, a world with their homes qualities was not common in this galaxy, most of the blue stars were orbited only by barren planets too close to stand the intense heat of the sun.
They couldnt do anything about the sun, yet, but they could fix the other aspects.
The Tandu scientists had thrown themselves into the concept of 'Terraforming', the human term for world modification. They had studied it in depth and were now seeking to apply it to Xantini. The process would be long, no doubts there, but in the end, the Tandu could finnally really and truely call Xantini home.
The first phase of the project was the simplest and most direct. Modified species of algae were released into Xantini's oceans, unique to the Tandu homeworld, they easily outmatched their lesser brethren. The same went for the grassess, trees and a number of animals that the Tandu didnt like. Massive factories sprang up, pumping various gassess into the air in an effort to balance the atmosphere, under careful control by the greatest minds of the Tandu.
The other part of the process was to dispatch scouts. The Tandu had recently found a deposite of uranium, processed it, and were now fueling up their spacecraft. For the first time since their arrival, the Tandu would be able to leave the rays of the systems sun, the only source of power for their ships without the fuel they otherwise used.
