A great jump forward (FT)

Captain Rachel Garrett had been a Starfleet Officer for over 20 years. She had seen that since she had been commissioned, there had been little change in the ships. Sure the new Excelsiors were great ships, but they still were far from being what could be considered to be advanced. She had long waited for the chance to have a ship that was powerful enough that it would be feared. Even now, IDF was far from that point, but they were inching towards that point. The new shipyard that was building her ship would be a testament to that fact.

The new Utopia Planitia shipyards had been constructed on the colonized world of Primus IV. The planet was very much like Mars in the Sol system. Advances in technology had made the planet habitable.

The new shipyards would be partially on the surface and partially in synchonous orbit over the planet. It would feature research labs on the surface and underground. Design facilities would also be built there.

Many manufacturing plants for components would be constructed. Numerous space stations and spacedocks were in orbit along with drydocks where final assembly took place.

The whole shipyard required hundreds of thousands of workers despite the high degree of automation.

The first class of ships to be built at the shipyard would be the new Ambassador class. Garrett would soon be taking command of the ISS Ambassador, NCC-74. The ship would be the first heavy cruiser commissioned in starfleet. The ship would feature 11 phaser arrays, 4 forward photon tubes and 2 aft tubes. The tubes were upgradable for quantum torpedoes, which while not ready for use, were being tested by the scientists at the shipyard.

The ISS Ambassador was still months from completion, but she was taking the shape of a beautiful ship. It was nice to see here and many sister ships being constructed next to the older ISS Trump, which was being repaired at the yard. The ships were lightyears apart. Garrett smiled at the progress starfleet had made.

OOC: With the first move to TNG tech, I will use the TNG and later warp scale instead of the Cochrane scale from TOS

IC:

It was a great ceremony when the ISS Ambassador was finally commissioned. The ship slid out of it's spacedock under its own power for the first time with Captain Rachel Garrett commanding the Ambassador class cruiser on its maiden voyage.

The ship had quite a different look from the Excelsior class ships. She was such a fast ship that the warpscale had to be redesigned to accomodate her.

Captain Garrett was in her captain's chair with many members of the media touring the ship. "Helm, lay in a course for Primus III." she began. "Full impulse, engage."

The ship's movement was now noticeable even with the inertial dampeners. The ship was moving at .8 warp. The ship then slowed to 1/4 impulse and orbitted Primus III passing near Primus station. The ship then moved away from the planet and towards the edge of Primus where she accelerated to warp. The ship accelerated for warp 9 and flew towards DS9 where she would dock. She would then leave for Primus Station thus ending her cruise, that was the plan at least.
