IDF

Captain Rachel Garrett had been a Starfleet Officer for over 20 years. She had seen that since she had been commissioned, there had been little change in the ships. Sure the new Excelsiors were great ships, but they still were far from being what could be considered to be advanced. She had long waited for the chance to have a ship that was powerful enough that it would be feared. Even now, IDF was far from that point, but they were inching towards that point. The new shipyard that was building her ship would be a testament to that fact.
The new Utopia Planitia shipyards had been constructed on the colonized world of Primus IV. The planet was very much like Mars in the Sol system. Advances in technology had made the planet habitable.
The new shipyards would be partially on the surface and partially in synchonous orbit over the planet. It would feature research labs on the surface and underground. Design facilities would also be built there.
Many manufacturing plants for components would be constructed. Numerous space stations and spacedocks were in orbit along with drydocks where final assembly took place.
The whole shipyard required hundreds of thousands of workers despite the high degree of automation.
The first class of ships to be built at the shipyard would be the new Ambassador class. Garrett would soon be taking command of the ISS Ambassador, NCC-74. The ship would be the first heavy cruiser commissioned in starfleet. The ship would feature 11 phaser arrays, 4 forward photon tubes and 2 aft tubes. The tubes were upgradable for quantum torpedoes, which while not ready for use, were being tested by the scientists at the shipyard.
The ISS Ambassador was still months from completion, but she was taking the shape of a beautiful ship. It was nice to see here and many sister ships being constructed next to the older ISS Trump, which was being repaired at the yard. The ships were lightyears apart. Garrett smiled at the progress starfleet had made.
