Winston Churchill awaits to discuss strategy with the French Prime Minister, Lebrun. He has several ideas to float when Lebrun arrives, including 1. whether they should take a defensive or offensive stance on Germany's border. 2. What to do with the Soviet Union. 3.What has to occur with italy. 4.Creating new allies such as the US and the Commonwealth nations. 5. Anything else the French could propose.

Albert Lebrun was currently being escorted through the halls of a building by a British officer, clutching a briefcase full of classified information he felt he should bring in order to discuss the political situation developing within Europe.

His empty hand alternated between smoothing over his full ebony black moustache, a contrast with his greying, short cut hair, and balling into a clenched fist. He felt precipitation on his forehead, wiping the beads of sweat off with the back of his hand. The governments before his should have saw this coming. The breaking of the Versailles treaty, the Rhineland, Austria, Czechslovakia... It had to end here, before Poland, Denmark and Norway fell to the German onslaught.

The officer opened the door to the designated meeting room, and Lebrun stepped inside.

Inside was waiting Winston Churchill, first Lord of the Admiralty. His heart raced as the first assignment of his new office was to be carried out, experienced at politics and foreign affairs as he was. Extending his hand and shaking the French ministers, he motioned for the President to sit. Wiping his forehead with a handkerchief and slowing sitting, he looked into the Frenchman's eyes with his own squat face.

"Mr President, I am Winston Churchill, acting Prime Minister in lieu of the disgrace of Neville Chamberlain. He will soon be out of office and I will be Prime Minister. To be brief, you know of what is happening and the seriousness of our situation. Neither of us is ready for a major war, yet we can expect to be ready to fight as soon as possible, maybe even ready to attack Germany before it is ready, I do not know.

I believe that the first course of action would be to support Poland and urge its attackers to withdraw. We should put an ultimatum to Germany and perhaps the USSR to withdraw by about three days before we declare war. Then we shall consider options. We also need to discuss Italy, the US, and other things, but forgive me, is there anything of consequence you wish to say to begin with?"

Lebrun set his briefcase upon the desk and discreetly unlatched it, pulling out a clutch of organised papers, covering matters such as the situation in Poland and other subject matters that where to be discussed in the meeting, including vital information about troop deployments within France and around the world. He sat on the leather chair opposite Churchill, and answered his counterpart's questions with a curt, "Non. You may begin with your concerns."

Nodding, Churchill swept his hand across the room. "I think I have voiced my most important concerns - as well as the fact that drawing Italy and the United States onto our side as allies.

The USSR and Germany should be given the ultimatum to stop their attack
