The Pegasus Experiment (FT)

IDF
01-06-2006, 04:16
The Oberth class ISS Pegasus commanded by Commander Eric Pressman departed Primus Station to conduct heavily classified tests.

The ship was carrying the latest piece of technology devised by IDF scientists, the interphase cloaking device. It wasn't just IDF's first cloaking device, it was a heavily advanged on ethat would allow a ship to pass through solid matter while cloaded.

Pressman was eager to get the tests done. He took the ship to a deserted system on the far side of the Bajor sytem. It was there that Pressman ordered the ship to cloak. The ship completely disappeared both from view and would disappear from sensors had a ship been there tracking the Pegasus.

Pressman performed various tests with the cloaking device. The cloak had worked well so far. After a couple of weeks of tests including dodging the IDF fleet, Pressman was about to perform the final test.

The ship was to go through an asteroid field. The ship was nearly done when the plasma intercoolers overheated. The Chief Engineer didn't even have time to begin to fix the problem when there was an explosion in main engineering.

The cloaking device disengaged, but luckily the Pegasus was not running through an asteroid at the time. Had the cloak disengaged while she was traveling through matter, the results would've been disasterous.

There were 4 men wounded in main engineering as the fire suppression system came online to fight the fire. The ISS Eagle came in under impulse to both tow the Pegasus and blast away asteroids with her phasers as the Pegasus's shields and main deflector dish were offline as a result of the fact that the warp core had to be taken offline to avoid a cooler leak and warp core breach.

The Eagle took the Pegasus's wounded and took the ship to the nearest base, DS9.

It would later be determined that an Interphase Cloaking Device was not the way to go. The cloakling experiments would later continue with a regular cloaking device.
