Spending anything above 10% is ludicrous in itself, which doesn't seem to bother anybody.

The Parkus Empire's spending on defense is now %33 (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/waffen/violent-smiley-090.gif)!

Congratulations. According to NS tracker, your 33% = $1,985,731,458,314.87. That's just under the 1% ($1,684,054,360,501.67) I spend for public transport. My government *wastes* more than you spend on defence, according to these statistics.

[OOC: Defence spending as a % of budget is somewhat irrelevent. Around 80% of my government's budget is spent on defence, but that's because I have low taxes and privatised health and education and little-no social services. Defence spending as % of GDP is what matters, and anything above 15% - 20% you can't claim to have a working economy.]

What Prae said.

According to NSTracker, I spend %8 of my GDP on defense. NSTracker also claims I have 100% tax but still maintain a GDP per capita of over $30,000 and a frightening economy.

I roleplay it as having no income tax whatsoever, with all the government income coming from sales and property taxes. The money is divided unevenly between national defense (70%), education and healthcare vouchers (29%), and law enforcement (1%). That leaves an average GDP per capita of oevr $40,000 for people to buy their own, and far superior, education, healthcare, transport, housing, etc. Overall national defense still comes to under 10% of my GDP, enabling me to keep up enough manufacturing and everything to get my few soldiers, airplanes, ships and the like functioning well with contented personnel.
