The Thompson L110E

The Lucchese Famiglia
29-05-2006, 10:13
Recently the Lucchesean Government has decided to Recreate an Old Classic Weapon from the Prohibition era.
The Thompson was chosen for this project, and has been extensively modified to meet today's requirements.

Caliber : .45ACP
Barrel : 14 1/2", Finned & Threaded
Weight : 8 1/2 lbs.
Length : 37 1/2" overall
Sight : Iron Sights, SUSAT Sight
Stock : Hollow Walnut detachable stock and vertical foregrip.
Magazine : 32 Shot stick or Drum
Fire Modes: Single, 3 Round Burst, Full Auto.

The Hollow Walnut Stock and Grip greatly reduce the weight of the Weapon, making it easier to wield in Combat. The addition of a SUSAT Sight, and the lengthening of the Barrel also help to improve the range, to an Aim Effective distance of around 550 Metres. Spring Shock Absorbers have been added to the Stock, helping to decrease Kick.
The Addition of a Fire Change Lever greatly helps, giving the Firer the Option to fire several different ways.

The Weapon is currently on trial with the F.S.S [Famiglia Soldati Speciali] and is due to enter service with mainstream regiments some time this Year.

Hurtful Thoughts

I'll assume do know a Thompson wheighed well over 12 pounds with its drum. And managed to make it lighter.

Still, you took the overly complex M1 instead of the much simplified M1A1 for the sake or the grip and drum.

Range is nothing special when compared to PPSh-41, which was simpler, and more robust, although notably heavier.

The Thompson M1 and M1A1, though beutiful machines, where heavy and liable to jam if mud got to it even by 1940s standards. The M3A1, though awkward looking, was better liked by those who actually used them, it was lighter, simpler, more relable, and easier to handle, although the box magazine often would cause problems with both guns.

The M1A1 Thompson weighs more than a pair of modern fully loaded assault rifles, fires less accurately, and slower. I don't know aout your new version, but as stated earlier, I'll assume you solved the first part.

But then again, there have been worse ideas on the market. 0.1 Ga(99 mm) shotguns for example. Though they make great light artillery.
