Some of the odder ideas in aviation. Minds with singular visions not shared by larger companies gathered together. The result? Oddball Avation. Delivery is currently available via cargo ship, though it is hoped the smaller models will soon be transported via plane.

The Road-Plane

Ever seen an action movie where the hero presses a button and his car transforms into a fully functional plane? Well, a man named Henry Johnson has made that crazy concept a reality.

The appeal of the Road-Plane is obvious. It's cool. Who doesn't want a car that can fly? Or, perhaps more accurately, a plane that can drive. For the more practical customers, you can store this beauty in your garage, drive it to any suitable runway, and take off.

Mileage- On the road 40 miles a gallon. In the air, five hundred miles on a single tank of gas.

It's also completely road legal, provided your nation has no laws against Road-Planes.

Now, to explain how it works.

A fender bender could ruin the aerodynamics of the plane, so the big challenge is to make the Transition both flight- and road-ready. In car mode, the tail folds up, revealing a bumper. The control surfaces of the twin vertical stabilizers fold inward, shielding the propeller from debris.

On the runway, a flip of a switch starts the metamorphosis. The tail folds down, the wings flatten and lock into place, and the control surfaces of the vertical stabilizers line up. A security system, such as a thumbprint scanner, will keep Junior from “taking off” with the car.

All this for the low low price of $150,000.
