Heathen Republics Rebellion (MT)

Heathen Republics
27-05-2006, 05:04
Nation Name: Heathen Republics
President: General Samuel Erickson
Districsts: Nalgard, Ana Forns, Micola, Sveshil, Tomorstad.
Capital: Vorksigard

General Samuel Erickson ruled this small young nation with an iron fist. He had opposition supporters detained and jailed for long periods of time and had acknowledged that he had one opposition leader killed along with his family. With an army of 20,000 people who had to serve at least one year in the army but usually it was at least a three year service to distant parts of the nation for poor pay.

-----------

Capital, morning:

An explosion from an RPG struck the Presidential Palace and woke up the General as another 10 explosions rocked the Capital and heavy machine gun fire and other gun fire was heard around the capital. Twenty armed men opened fire on a government patrol in a district of the capital. Several soldiers fell and other soldiers took up positions as they returned fire with the armed men and women. However after a short battle when a tank appeared government soldiers surrendered when the tank pointed its muzzle at the government forces.

Fires began to rage as the General went to the top story of the Presidential Palace and climbed onboard a helicopter with his government ministers. Machine gun fire continued as fighting raged near the palace as gunmen entered the palace grounds and opened fire with several Presidential guards surrendering and several falling to the ground.

Fighting continued in the capital as General Erickson and his government made contact with district governors to see who would support him or not. From the fighting in the capital it was unknown who was behind this coup or rebellion and if government forces were involved.

Machine Gun fire and other explosions rocked the capital city as Government forces began to gain the upper hand as gunmen who had almost taken the capital began to shrink back into the shadows after three hours of fighting. The fighting had left alot of people wounded and had damaged several areas of the city as well as alot dead.

--------

General Erickson Message;

"To the people of Heathen Republics, today the rebellion was crushed as 7 out of the eight districts within our nation reported that no violence or no foreign or internal group had attacked district capitals. However, an unknown group did attack the capital today and our brave soldiers killed many and captured dozens to hundreds. And each and every one of them will be interrogated severly and then executed for rebellion once they tell us who was behind the rebellion. So to normal citizens, go back to work, everything is fine.'

HR Action News:

This is Heathen Republic Action News, Lars Grar reporting. Fighting today has reported that morgues are reporting that 19 civilians have been brought to the morgues as well as over 150 people have been wounded. Military officials report that 33 soldiers have also been killed and 65 have been wounded in the fighting. While 61 rebels were killed and 100 were wounded or captured. Therefore in the three hours of fighting nearly 113 people have been killed and another 300 to 400 have been wounded in the fighting.

We condem this day's violent outbreak but we acknowledge that the reason this rebellion may have occured that cost over 110+ lives was because of the tyranical nature of the leader of this apparently new but under a dictatorship nation. We would like to send condolences to the men, women and children that died in this needless battle.

On the outskirts of the capital of Vorksigard the surviving members who had led the rebellion against the General were organizing themselves in several abandoned buildings. There were several wounded men and women and about two dozen armed men who watched a government patrol go by. So far, from reports two junior members had died in prison already from their injuries and there was reports that the government was circling around the hideout.

Captain Gregvi Akivoson sighed as he looked over the map. In front of him in blue were government troops and in yellow there was rebel supporters around the capital and in little X's there was supporters out in the countryside. Sighing softly he looked at the bandage on his shoulder and his now useless left arm as he sat down in a chair. These five or six buildings held 50 rebels out of the attacking force that had attacked the Captial a few days before.

Sighing softly he saw another government patrol go by before falling asleep.

----------

General Samuel Erickson smiled softly as he looked at several prisoners that were behind bars at the major prison. One young female rebel was bleeding from her hand as her left hand only had four fingers now not five. Tears were trickling down his face as Samuel himself smiled happily. However, his palace was still damaged and he had to live in his comlex out of the capital until the bodies were removed.

----------

Outside the capital thirty armed men and women set up a claymore several actually and then ran back to their position as a government patrol went by. A military jeep with an officer struck the first claymore and exploded in flames as the officer flew high in the air and hit the ground. The driver had his head blown off from the explosion and the third occupant was missing a leg as he crawled away from the wrecked vehicle.

The thirty armed men and women opened up with machine guns and major machine gun implacements as the several carrier open up with artillery shells. After a small ten minute battle the armed men and women retreated quickly leaving 3 soldiers dead and 5 wounded while only 1 rebel was killed and another wounded in the clash bringing up the death toll from the rebellion to 120 people.

So far in a week since the rebellion had occured, 130 people had been killed and over 2,000 people had been wounded and 150 had been detained.

Prime Minister Jürgen Klaus read through the memo on his desk once more, sighing as he did so. It was from the Ministry of Defence: their briefings were rarely pleasant to read through, this one brought unusually bad tidings.

The Federation of Heathen Republics was undergoing what looked, for all intents and purposes, like a revolution; a bloody one at that. There were reports from the Hochen Intelligence Service of explosions all over Vorksigard, the capital. A week ago, an armed attack had occured on the Presidential Palace, with RPG and heavy small arms fire reported.

The tyrannical President, General Samuel Erickson had escaped the Palace, with his ministers. His dictatorial regime was infamous for the way in which he oppressed his people and ruled them with an iron fist. It was hardly surprising, then, that this revolution was taking place. Indeed, it was encouragable for populations to overthrow their dictators - the use of violence, however...

There was a knock at the door, this would be the Defence Minister, Michael Reinhardt, come to discuss just this, and what the Republic could do. Probably very little Klaus admitted.

"Come in,"

As Michael Reinhardt entered the PM's Study, he could tell from the deep frown lines on the leader's face, that he had been reading through the report. The new figures he was about to deliver would not be well recieved.

"Good Morning, Prime Minister,"

"'Morning, Michael. I'm guessing you have news for me?" replied Klaus, offering a seat.

"Sadly. I have the latest figures from the Heathen Republics - 130 people dead, 2000 wounded and around 150 detained,"

"It's deteriorating, then?"

"So it would seem. I daresay its only a matter of time before the violence spreads from beyond the capital,"

"What can we do, then?"

"Militarily? Nothing. Even if we had suitable forces to send, what would they do? We haven't the forces to overpower the Government forces - even if it were just those still loyal,"

The PM sighed. "Very Well, I suppose we'd best send a letter to General Erickson? Is Thomas still at the Villa?"

"Yes, I believe the Foreign Minister from The United Kingdom of Oceania only just arrived for brunch,"

"Very well, if there's nothing else?"

"One thing, Prime Minister - the Imperial Praetorian Shipyards has approved the sale of the Destroyer we ordered,"

"Excellent. One piece of good news, at least. Could you send in my secretary when you pass her?"

"Certainly, Prime Minister"

The Republic of Hochberg ~ Hochbergische Republik

TO: General Erickson, President of the Federation of Heathen Republics

The Republic of Hochberg is deeply distressed by the news coming from within the Federation. We are deeply concerned that the deteriorating security situation within your nation will result in the suffering of a great many of your people.

It is our belief that this rebellion has resulted from the way in which you have opressed your people and the tyrannical manner of your Government. We would therefore urge you to announce sweeping democratic reforms, so as to stem the violence that is now causing chaos in your capital.

The Republic of Hochberg would be more than willing to assist your nation in recovery from this period of strife, however this is conditional on you resigning your position, having put the Federation on track to democratic governance.

We await your response,

Jürgen Klaus

To Hochberg National Government
From Heathen Republics

Are national business is our nationa business. General Samuel Erickson keeps a tyranical or so it appears to your national government because we need a strong leader to keep Heathen tribes together. Heathen Tribes make up each district and they are hard to unite under a wussy leader.

However, we and therefore, democratic reforms at this time isn't good.

----------------------

In the suburbs of the capital fighting again was intense as rebel units fought against government forces. The fighting pitted around about 200 rebels against 500 soldiers. The leader of the rebels was among the rebels fighting. Machine gun fire and other gunfire was reported to ping off the streets as three blackhawk helicopters flew ahead. Then missiles were fired at rebel positions with explosions and one three story building collapsing. However with the tight streets tanks couldn't get by so rebel forces armed with assault rifles and pistols could ambush soldiers at every corner.

So far in the operation 5 civilians had been brought to the morque and 1 soldier had been confirmed killed.

TO: General Erickson, President of the Federation of Heathen Republics

I'm afraid I must disagree with your argument. Your nation is small, as is ours. We have had democracy for hundreds of years. Large nations like Praetonia, Pacitalia and Sarzonia manage democracy, with populations counted in the billions. Neither are democratic governments weak.

Once again we call upon you to bring about democratic reform in your nation, or suffer the consquences of a bloody revolution led by those within your nation who are no longer willing to live under your regime.

Official message to Hochberg:

We have terminated any contact with your nation. Heathen tribes are different too most other nations, and at some time democratic reform will occur but until that time, General Samuel Erickson is the best we have.

------------

Fighting continued as more missiles were fired from the helicopters at rebel positions. Flames lit up the street as three civilians trying to flee were cut down by a planted machine gun of soldiers. However, two rebels were climbing the steps of the rebel HQ and opened the door to the roof. From there they aimed an RPG at one of the three helicopters and fired it at the closest helicopter. It hit the helicopter in its middle, resulting in an explosion and as the helicopter began to float down, it exploded into a million pieces killing the crew of four on board and hurling shrapnel for over a mile.

Fighting continued in the streets as a rebel position was overrun, and as thre rebels stood up against a wall and a dead comrade laying in the streets. Angry soldiers bayoneted all three rebels and as they crumpled to the ground they shot them to ensure they were dead.

Fighting in the suburbs so far had left 10 civilians, 5 soldiers and 4 rebels dead.

That one sentence had enfuriated the Prime Minister into action. This, evidently, was a man who would not listen to reason. Klaus glanced up from the table to regard the Ministers who made up his cabinet.

"Well, ladies and gentleman, it has become apparent that this...General Erickson will not listen to reason. His people continue to die. Suggestions."

There followed a pause, none of the ministers present wishing to be the first to offer their suggestion. Slowly, the Defence Minister raised his hand, as was customary, and the rest of the cabinet turned to listen to him.

"Obviously military action is out of the question - conventional military action, anyway,"

"Unconventional, then?"

"Yes. If possible,"

"Are you going to elaborate, Minister?" Klaus snapped.

"I believe we should try and supply the rebels, in some way. A strategic air drop, dropping in a couple of well-armed agents, a blockade or something of the sort,"

"Are we capable of dropping in agents?" Kristina Schwarz, Klaus' deputy asked.

"I believe so, yes"

"How soon can you do it?"

"Tonight, under cover of darkness"

"Do it," Klaus ordered.

"Bring me the leader of HI-1," Reinhardt ordered, seating himself in his office. Whilst The Republic of Hochberg had a tiny military by Worldwide standards, it was well-equipped and modern. One thing the Republic DID do well, (in exchange for having a large standing army and a meagre air force), was intelligence - this dated back to the days the Hochen people had remained in isolation.

HI-1 was the name given to the Intelligence Team - the name was designed to make it sound like one of many, whereas in reality Reinhardt knew that it represented a third of the entire intelligence service.

The Leader walked in, called, in a very clichéd manner, H-001.

"Take a seat. I have a mission for you"

A few kilometres from Federation airspace
25,000 feet up
0200 Hours

The leader of the Hochen Intelligence Team looked at his five companions. It wouldn't be long now, until they parachuted out above one of the more remote provinces. The plan was simple. A HALO jump, followed by a swift, rapid and silent movement into the nearby mountain range. They were to lie low for two days, then make contact with the rebels, which Intelligence HQ had discovered in the same mountain range. From then on...it would be down to them.

With any luck, the Federation's armed forces shouldn't notice their arrival. The plane was to continue on its course, and drop one or two low-explosive bombs on the still-damaged Presidential Palace, as a diversion.

He looked at his watch. Two minutes till drop zone. Signalling to his hand-picked team to line up, he pressed the button that opened the rear door of the plane.

10...9...8...7...

He signalled for the first man to step up to the edge.

5...4...3...2...1...

The light flashed green above the door, he tapped the man on the soldier. He ran down the ramp, and dived neatly off the edge. The rest of the team followed swiftly, the leader ending the formation...

Fighting raged in the capital for three days now as rebel forces were being pushed back. However, the rebel leader and 50% of the rebel force had already left the city after the three days of fighting and Gregvi Akivoson was heading to the mountains where the rebel base of operations was.

And even though the rebels were losing in the capital after two weeks of fighting they were able to knock out a helicopter.

------------

Cheers grew from the capital as soldiers captured about 50 rebels. The rebels who were bloody were dragged to the center of the capital where several dozen civilians beat them and kicked them. They were then dragged to the main prison.

The fighting left 41 rebels, 25 civilians and 15 soldiers in the fighting and wounded over 300 people.

In two weeks of fighting 210 people had been killed and over 2,400 had been wounded.

Two Days Later

They'd managed it - they'd not been caught. Excellent. Phase two was to commence. Taking out his Intelligence-issue PDA, he sent a message to the shabby fishing vessel that stood on the edge of international waters - their contact to the Central Intelligence Command back in Hochberg, and their exit point.

Stage 1 complete.

Commencing Stage 2.

End.

He gestured over his shoulder for his men to move out. They were off to find the Rebel Camp and initiate contact. They carried heavy packs on their backs: but the most important information was contained in their heads - tactics.

They began to hike.
Heathen Republics
29-05-2006, 15:22
In the mountainous region of Nalgard district about a dozen rebel fighters walked in a patrol. The rebel HQ was 5 miles to the north and they heard a crack. So far after 15 days of fighting, 210 people had been killed in the fighting and only 200 rebel fighters and about 400 sympathizers were left.

Hearing a crack in the woods, the men moved slowly and spotted several armed men. Whistling the leader of the group;

"Raise your hands and put your weapons over your head. Then identify yourself, you don't seem to be a government soldier."
Hochberg
29-05-2006, 15:32
The Leader of the Intelligence team raised the rifle he held in his hands, above his head, quietly glad for the bulletproof vests they had been provided with - they were worth the weight.

"We are not Government soldiers - we're from the Republic of Hochberg, and we're here to help you get rid of this nutter Erickson," he shouted across.

He eyed the leader of this band carefully. With any luck, they'd accept their help with the least mistrust possible. Just as long as they didn't try to confiscate his team's weapons. The Minister had been quite clear about that - nothing traceable from the Republic was to be left behind, and it would not be.
Heathen Republics
29-05-2006, 15:35
The leader of the rebel patrol said;

"Gregvi Akivoson will want to know about you. Come along, we will take you too him, it is only five miles north. However we will have 6 of our soldiers behind your troops just in case you are government allies."
Hochberg
29-05-2006, 15:43
The Leader nodded.

Following the rebel patrol, they climbed higher up into the mountains, at points having to go single-file. Mountains; they'd always been the ideal for guerilla warfare - it had happened in Afghanistan, both under the Soviets and following the US invasion.

This General Akivoson - the leader of the rebel forces? If he was indeed a general, his tactics were definitely questionable. He could hear voices, and they suddenly seemed to be surrounded by a much larger number of rebels. They were at the camp.
Heathen Republics
29-05-2006, 15:50
The leader of the rebel patrol stopped and said; "We will let you see Col Gregvi Akivoson. Just wait here."

A rebel went off and in about 5 minutes, Colonel Gregvi Akivoson walked up a 6' 2" tall man of about 200 lbs, and he looked at the 5 or six foreign troops from this Republic of Hochberg.

"Hello I am Colonel Gregvi Akivoson and I would like to welcome you to our rebel camp. We have about 150 rebels here and another 50 around the country and we have about 400 sympathizers that haven't been kidnapped or killed yet. Why are you here and how can you help us?"
Hochberg
29-05-2006, 15:56
"We are here because General Erickson refuses to allow democracy to take root in your country. He has blown off all contact with us, and it is the decision of our Government that he should be removed from power. We are here to offer our advice; our experience and the promise of assistance from the Republic of Hochberg,"

"The first thing we want to know is this: what contact do you have with the leadership of the remote provinces? Also, to be blunt with you, General, we'd strongly suggest you pull back your forces until you're better organised," the Leader continued, boldly putting the facts out there. He hoped it would appeal to the leader of the rebels, and demonstrate their commitment and lack of bullsh*t.

Remote village:

Fifteen rebels engaged in a gunbattle with the small government garrison of 6 soldiers. Machine gun fire and small pistol fire could be heard in the small village as the soldiers hide behind concrete walls as bullets pinged off the walls. However, machine gun bursts for about 10 minutes resulted in 4 soldiers to surrender as one was wounded and the other one was killed.

The rebels then disappeared with the 4 captured soldiers and a number of arms. Only 1 soldier was killed in the fighting, and 1 soldier, 3 rebels and 7 civilians were wounded in the attack.

General Samuel Erickson ordered that the peacekeepers be noticfied on what to do.

To Sozialistische Preusen Forces:
From Heathen Republics Defence Ministry:

In the remote provinces near our borderlands there has reportedly been reports of rebel activity from loyalist citizens and we believe that a joint patrol of Sozialistische Preusen soldiers and Heathen Republic troops about a battalion each should be checked out. Shouldn't use up too many troops.

FROM: Joint Commanders of The People's Army and Navy
TO: General Samuel Erickson

Whatever you need us to do. Tell us where to shell, sweep for rebels, fortify a position, whatever you need, we're on it.
