The Empire of Mecca

The Quraish
27-05-2006, 00:16
After Muhammad and Islam lost in Arabia, the Quraish expanded, taking over all of what would have been the Empire of Islam. They took Jerusalem, beating the Byzantines at Yarmuk. They made Mecca their capital, keeping their pagan religion (Christianity later came around). The Quraish leaders still kept their trading roots, for Mecca was a great trading city.

The Ottoman Turks fell to the Quraish, or they had not come into power. Constantinople fell as well, but despite Constantinople's power and wealth, Mecca remained the capital. Soon, the Balkans and other lands fell to the Quraish.

Finally, the Battle of Lepanto and others halted the Quraish who stayed neutral in WWI and WWII.

Note-My nation is what could have been if Muhammad and Islam failed in Arabia.

Well, if you actually want a historically accurate account of what would've happened if the prophet Muhammad(PBUH) and Islam failed or was annihilated, instead of simply cutting the name Islam and sticking Quraish, then I would greatly encourage to change what you wrote of their history. Islam's advent into the Arab world changed many factors and helped unite a people that was suffering from great dissention. The Muslims didn't comprise one tribe but they were comprised of many, even at the very, very beginning in Medina, Islam was comprised of three tribes(Quraish, Aous, Khazraj) and Arab tribes on the penisuala continued accepting it from there. The Conquests into Bilad al-Sham(the levant) and Persia only began after the unification of the penisuala. Now, how do you propose that a single tribe like Quraish, which had absolutely no interest whatsoever in permanent conquests, and didn't even fathom the concept of a continually held army have any hope or even dream of achieving the great conquests and winning the battles you propose them to do? Arab tribes had perpetual wars and bad blood amongst themselves from overly simple disputes, and being at the time the center between two empires, Arabs had little choices until Islam came and united all its adherents under its banner. Possible scenarios if Islam didn't exist in my personal opinion:

1) The Arabic language would die, we'd all speak latin, and eventually forced by the Roman Empire to convert to Christianty; of course that'll be after all the plunder, rape and butchering is done(Pope would say that hell doesn't await those who treat infidels like sub-humans).

2) The Arabic language would die, we'd all speak Persian, and eventually be forced to pray for our fireplaces along with our Iranian masters(but we'll be doing it in the barn with dog shit for beds)

Oh yeah, and since Islam didn't last, then there would be no such thing as Ottoman Empire. Again whatever you do is your choice, but if you want to keep it accurate, I think Quraish ruling a city-state is the most plausible scenario, at least in the years directly following the fall of Islam, until one of those two scenarios occur.

I know much about Islamic history and respect all your statements. I had wished for an alternate history for the Quraish so that is why I did this nation. I did kind of mean that the Quraish conquered the Turks (hence the Ottoman Empire mention). Also, I have in my nation that the Quraish decided to expand, after Islam did not succeed. I have nothing against Islam, many of my friends are Muslims.
