WMD Production Ban Lifted

Rotovia-
26-05-2006, 11:09
Standing flanked by Praetorian Guardsmen to her left and right, Vice President Julia Aptiva addresses a throng of press and protesters assembled on the Senate House Steps.

"My fellow countrymen!"

Raising her hands into the air in the traditional statesmen-like manner expected of Rotovia's government.

"Today we send a clear and consistent message to the world; Rotovia is prepared to defend herself, her interests and values, at home, and abroad, with all necessary force.

As the sunset clause of the National WMD Production Restriction and Reduction Act is activated, all limits on nuclear ICBM production, neutron bomb production, and WMD stock reduction plans, will be effectively struck null and void.

In a time of uncertainty and global instability, the Republic must be prepared and ready to defend our interests. We will not apologise for reaching for the bayonet, when we are surrounded by muskets!"

She exits hastily into the government entourage waiting on the street, refusing to take question.

In the coming days the Rotovian Military Command Authority begins unspecified leaps in weapon production.

Rotavian Representative,

LifeWyze BioTech wishes to know whether you would be interested in procuring some of our bilogical or chemical weaponry. Currently LifeWyze is one of the world largest biological and chemical weapon production companies and is also the single largest developer of biological and chemical warfare solutions.

And people wonder why the Security Council is investigating LifeWyze, in part of their sales of WMD. The world is doomed as we know it.

Lets get this straight: chemical weapons and biological weapons are not weapons of mass destruction, as they do not actually destroy anything. Nuclear weapons are weapons of mass destruction while chemical, biological, and neutron bombs are weapons of mass casualty.

OOC: Oy! That is QUITE debatable. See Pale Rider Arms. (http://s6.invisionfree.com/International_Mall/index.php?showforum=156)

Your deinition of Mass Destruction and ours are very diffrent. Most only conisder the ammount of area damaged when determing mass destruction. We however see it as the social/economic effect as well as the area damaged. By our standards Bio/Chemical Weapons are considered Mass Destruction because they bring mass death and desturuction wherever they go. LifeWyze's proposition on this will be reported as part of the investigation into it.

LifeWyze BioTech has far more operational B&C counter-facilities than PRA, and likely ahead in terms of biological and chemical weaponry.

As for the investigation, LifeWyze is entirely unconcerned. It has broken no laws and remains an ethical company, harassed by nations whom are more concerned with a legitimate and cautious company that is responsible for the healthcare of over two hundred million people worldwide, than they are with dangerous nations producing their own chemical and biological agents, such as The NSSR.

"LifeWyze has been opening a lot of hospitals around the world lately. Of course when you produce items that cause mass death, and destruction of society, you need all the good publicity you can get."

There is no such thing as ethical selling of Hazmat weapons. Or legal.

LifeWyze demand to know to what internationally recognized laws you refer to. Furthermore, biological and chemical weaponry are meant to act as a deterrant, what the nation we sell to then does with them is nothing to do with LifeWyze BioTech. As we sell only to highly responsible nations who have a peaceful history, we remain an ethical company. To date, there is not one single reported use of a LifeWyze biological or chemical weapon being unleashed.

OOC: Not so much you have more counter-facilities than that you actually sell them. I prefer not to sell the countermeasure to my own weapons, so they stay strictly in Otagia. As for progress, that's rather debatable (and nigh impossible to prove, of course), and anyway, I have more. Nyer. ;)

The Rotovian Government is the founder of the Treaty of Rotovia, a document banning the international use of biological or chemical weaponry, for the purposes of war. Having ratified said treaty, it would be unlawful to approve such an offer.

The Republic will not be intimidated and demands an immediate retraction of the aforementioned condemnation. This sought of irresponsible and flippant use of diplomatic techniques is immature and disgraceful, and is not the level of behaviour deemed acceptable on the international stage.
