Upon close inspection it seems our fair Nationstates community has covered a wide variety of sports within the roleplaying forums. Basketball, soccer, baseball, and even racing have all had runs on our forums, however brief or extensive. Yet it appears that our forum is without an adequate wrestling league. It is because of this that I present to you with great pride Nationstates' new sports league-the International Wrestling League. Before you doze off into a deep slumber, allow me to elaborate...this is not your run of the mill amateur wrestling. That would be boring, that would be ancient. No, this particular league holds true to the modern day wrestling ideals...soap opera storylines, chair bashing, sex, violence, or generally crash television.
The idea is basic and requires only a couple minutes of your attention daily at most. Each participating country submits a wrestler (through a form I will post later) representing their nation. He will have a name, a gimmick [or character if you will], a style of fighting, and eight points to divide up amongst 4 stats. There will be other details such as hometown, height, and weight to help distinguish him from the other wrestlers. As the league grows [which it might not, depending on interest], your wrestler will be booked against other wrestlers in matches. Your only job is to maybe make one post before each match with a brief description of the wrestler getting ready or trash talking-I'll do the rest. Using a combination of the stats system and writing ability I will then determine a winner and write up short match descriptions for the wrestling event in question, complete with commentary.
Perhaps this doesn't sound like much fun at first, but there is a degree of strategy involved. Wrestlers can make alliances with each other, challenge other wrestlers before the event schedule is posted, and even attack enemy wrestlers during their matches. There can be bad-blood between two nations' fighters, sparking up nationalism between two countries. Events will circulate through the different participating countries, so eventually fighters will have the home town advantage (i.e. a whole crowd cheering them). There will be levels of belts to compete for, including a world championship.
Of course, at the present moment nothing is set in stone. I opened this thread mainly to see if there was even any interest in the concept. If enough people ARE interested, I'll post a wrestler application and more details about the IWL later. Don't miss out on a chance to whoop your rival's butt...IN THE RING!
