In the Cathedral of St. John Chrysostom, Empress Theodora walked with the family's spiritual man, Father Constantine Tzannetakis. As they walked, discussing matters, they came to an icon of Christ. Constantine and Theodora looked at the icon before suddenly, things went wrong as they were talking.

''Your Majesty, are you alright?'' Constantine said things like this to Theodora, she was not responding. When he asked again, she fell to the ground, not moving. Constantine was worried and he tried to help her and called some doctors. The news was bad, she was pronounced dead.

Emperor Demetrios was with one of his daughters, Marina. Demetrios was showing Marina his notes and decrees. ''This is a...'' Demetrios said, interrupted by a doctor. ''Your Majesty, I have bad news to bring you. Come with me.'' he said. Demetrios and Marina were lead to Theodora's private room where she laid on her bed, her soul in the next life. ''The Empress is dead, she collasped in the Cathedral.'' they said. Marina cried, her mother now dead. Demetrios said ''Marina, tell your siblings what has happened. As for the rest of you, I wish to be alone.'' They all left. Demetrios looked at his dead wife and said ''God keep you, my wife.'' He then began to cry and mourn before making the sign of the cross and contemplating what happened.
