NOTE: THIS IS PURLY AN OOC THREAD, ANY IC COMMENTS WILL BE DISMISSED

Alright, now that the Note is there i'll get to business. I was thinking of sometime in the near future (maybe within a month or so) to frantically change how my nation works. Currently the government is sub divided into three groups, kind of like the government of the USA: The Executive Branch (Office of the Emperor), the Legislative Branch (Parliament), and the Judicial Branch (Supreme Court).

The way I have it set up is that sometime in the near future the current Emperor will use his power to disband the Parliamentary Body. He will do this by calling a special session of Parliament and then tell them something to the effect that they cannot gaurantee the saftey of the people and that they are dismissed. I also plan him to join the Judicial branch with the Executive Branch (not quite sure how I will RP it as of right now though) so that he precides, or appoints someone to preside, over all trials that happen within the newly formed Empire.

It will basically end up as being a One House System but Elections will still be legal although they will happen scarcer than normal. Any questions or comments about what I am doing will be appreciated. When I figure out what i want to do exactly and get it posted, this threda will be converted to the OOC Thread for the IC thread.

In order for a president of a democratic nation to do something like this, he would primarily need two things: A strong support (both from the population, although this could be substituted by fear, either of the president of an outside threat (see below), and from other government officials, prominent businessmen, media networks etc.
Secondly, he would need a very good reason. The best reason used in history is fear, using a mixture of external threats and internal ones. For example, 'our neighbour country x has been building up its military and we have definative proff they are planning an invasion. Even more sinister, we have obtained evidence that traitors exist in our countries at all levels (and any correlation between these individuals and the presidents contractors is highly coincidental).
Ride this fear, nurture it, make it grow over a period of months and it could give him the basis he needs to absolve parliament.

Another reason could be if Parliament was, or was seen to be by the population, as being either grossly inept and/or highly corrupt and then the president could use the guise of dissolving it 'temporarily' in order to reform it.

With the Parliament I was thinking of going the Corrupt route. Having the Emperor make up evidence of them doing things that would be considered "Illegal" in many aspects. Maybe i could combine that with the options that you presented.

Like NL said, fear is the big one to garner public support. That and/or a scapegoat. If you make Parliment that scapegoat, and say "I have absolute proof, that they have been working to make our nation weak against foreigner attacks!" Stir up some Xenophobia while you're at it.
