The Consular Palace

Consul A. Commodus Disius finished up a cup of coffee, which was a bit too strong that morning, and twiddled the golden crucifix that hung from a chain around his neck. His office was a plain room; a mahogany desk, three black leather chairs, and a few paintings and other objects.

“Sir, the Prefect of the Internal Affairs Ministry is here to see you, as scheduled,” a voice came from a small speaker on the left hand corner of his desk, the voice of his secretary.

Pressing a tiny red button on the speaker, the Consul said, “Yes, yes. If he has gone through the proper security screenings then let him in.”

The office door opened and a short, portly man came through the door. Immediately, he sat down in the leather chair across from Augustus.

“What brings you to my office today, Prefect?” Augustus paused, “Would you like a cigar?”

“No, thank you. I don’t smoke; it’s not healthy,” The man paused, “Lets get down to business. Consul, you’ve heard the musings of this Republic. I think you know what I am here about.”

“Prefect, I told you that I will not name myself Emperor. I don’t care what the popular majorities say, I will not impose Imperium on myself without Senate approval,” Augustus replied.

The Prefect gave a pudgy, toothy grin, “Consul, I am here on behalf of the Senate of Disius; Who, by a landslide decision, have decided to bestow upon you Imperial Imperium over Disius and Tribunica Protestas over the Senate.”

Augustus was extremely surprised, speechless even.

“Well… I… I accept.”

The next day it was announced to the public that Disius was now under the authority of an Emperor. The Senate was now a body that would respect whatever choice Emperor A. Commodus Disius made. The Holy Republic of Disius was now an Empire.
