Greetings fellow nations,

A recent evaluation of the nation has brought several facts into the view of the government, some of them needing immediate remedy.


Italy's population of 55 million allows our country to support a maximum of 110 production centers. Our current number is 20.
The country, in light of recent events, and partly because of the fact that we so lack domestic industry, is quickly stagnating. Without money to fund the construction of new production centers, we cannot increase our output, and so cannot fund more centers. This vicious cycle will, if unchecked, force Italy to remain a mediocre player on the world stage.


It is because of this economic instability that I come to you all today, asking for aid economically to allow the construction of more production centers. Whether a loan, a grant, or any other type of aid, it will gladly be accepted.

Loans will be paid back in full in time, with interest if the nation loaning the money see's fit. Grants will be heartily accepted, and our favor for that nation shall skyrocket. Our government feels it is necessary that we do this, and so we have.

Over the past five decades the German Empire has watched its neighbor with weariness and contempt. Both nations have engaged ourselves in bloody World Wars three times. Hatred has bred on both sides of the border. However, Germany feels that this should change.

As you know, Germany is part of the EEC. The EEC holds much economic power in the world. Many on the EEC Council have looked at the potential of Italy and have become very interested. Now, perhaps invitation to the EEC is too early. However, Germany believes that economic assistance can happen, and push Italy along the path of potential invitation.

Thus, Germany believes that it can assist Italy in economic growth.

German Shipbuilders could assist Italy in increasing the size of its fleet. German industrial men also could be persueded to invest in Italian industries. Germany hereby offers to increase the size of your Merchant fleet by 5 units as well as build 3 production centers, starting in 1960 and continuing through 1963. However, this is the minimum that Germany offers and even more could be sent, depending on German businessmens wishes.

Your offer is quite generous, and we shall whole-heartedly accept it. This does much to repair the hurt between our two nations, at least from Italy's perspective. We owe you very much.

OOC: Just a quick question or two... Would I add those ships and the one production center to my current build (1960) or wait until next build (1961)?

It appears you have found yourselves in quite a predicament. The Holy Republic of Polockistan would be happy to help you, however, our funds are limited. We will offer what we can.

In fact, what we can offer is a paltry $3,000,000 to aid you in your efforts of stability, but we hope that our contribution is great enough to help.

Perhaps you should make a separate thread for Italy and put Closed on there so that people will know?

And wait for 1961. I'm not even sure I've done my '59 builds...

Syria will, if Italy wishes, will petition the Arab League on the issue of membership. Italian rule in Libya, Tunisia, and Somalia places Italian membership as a major issue for debate.

Both current membership and Italy would benefit from the latter's induction to the former. Since being founded in 1947, economic growth has been evident among members (OOC: after 5 years you get +1% growth). Arab League organizations, including ALSA (a joint space program, about to put people into orbit), and ALADN (joint radar coverage, largely funded by me). While full membership would have to be debated, a second-class membership status (probably with limited benefits, and consequently, limited obligations) could be created.

Also, the AL has no defense clause, something the Italian foriegn relations ministry and senate would likely be comforted by.

(OOC: Most beneficial for you would likely be ALSA, giving you a decent missile capability, and saving a boatload on research. The AL would benefit most by ALADN, which could cover either just your colonies or all of the country, as there is a large gap between Algeria and Egypt's coverages. However, if you go hardcore Catholic then this wouldn't be your best choice of organization.)

It is always good to see that nations can overcome obstacles and still be polite and concise with those who may very well one day become enemies. We are, therefore, happy to accept your invitation for restricted membership in the Arab League. We hope that this will lead to wonderful relations in the future.

The United Nile Republics would be happy to assist the modernization of our arab neighbor Libya and possibly your East African colonies. We can begin aid shipments in 1961 if you will allow it.

just keep in mind that Italy is going to be a little suspecious of Germany and France as they invaded Italy in the 2nd Great War and attacked it heavily in the 3rd Great War (and even killed the Pope once).

Also, remember Italy consists of all of Italy, plus Tunisia, Libya and Slovenia is an Italian client state.

OOC: Not to mention Germany and Italy were at war during WWI.

But I think it would help that Germany is a full (sorta) democracy. ie Kaiser is a nothing now. At least somewhat.

50 production points, repayable as 60 points streatched over a period of time to be determined with a penalty if payment is delayed.
