OOC: PMT weaponry. Constructive criticism please.
The Holy Empire of The Aeson likes satellite weaponry. They have a entire military branch concerned with dealing death from orbit. However, none of the satellite weaponry that they have purchased is able to launch missiles.
To correct this failing, Aesonic Arms was contracted to develop a Space-to-Earth Missile Satellite or SEMS.
The result was the Mjolnir Class Satellite.
Defensive Systems
The first focus of Aesonic Arms was to create a satellite that could defend itself, in order to survive long enough to launch the missiles. As such, many defensive measures were included.
The first is basic stealth practices. The satellite is painted black and coated in anti-radar paint. When not firing it maintains only absolutely essential heat (AKA, the power needed to power the communications circuits so it can receive commands, detect threats, and keep the chemical and biological weaponry at a functional temperature) making infrared detection impractical. It also employs laser scattering technology. Finally, after it fires, it moves in a random direction to avoid reprisals
The second defensive measure are the Directed EMP launchers. These send a Electro Magnetic Pulse out from the station, directed so as not to interfere with the satellite itself. As any designer worth their salt shields against EMPs today, these are expected not to be terribly effective. Each satellite contains four DEMPs.
The third defensive measure is the AMM or Anti-Missile missiles. The AMMs are small, highly maneuverable missiles specifically designed to intercept and destroy, or knock significantly off course, larger missiles. Each Mjolnir bears fifty AMM launchers, and carries a complement of four hundred AMMs. However, these AMMS have no practical use outside of deflecting enemy missile attacks.
The final defensive measure is the ASM, or Anti Ship missiles, somewhat larger missiles designed to destroy any space fighters that might be deployed to destroy the Mjolnir. Each Mjolnir satellite bears twenty ASM launchers and carries a complement of two-hundred ASMs.
Command and Control
All Aesonic satellite weaponry is operated on a closed system, to prevent hacking. The Mjolnir takes this healthy paranoia to a new level. It recognizes and deals with threats independently of any command center. In addition, once it is tasked with a specific target and munitions type, it will aim and fire without additional commands.
Since some designer got the idea that this represented a possible threat to all of humanity (he watched far too many Sci-Fi videos) a completely isolated circuit is capable of triggering a self destruct system. This can also be used if, by some fluke, the enemy manages to take control of the Mjolnir satellite. To squeeze every bit of use possible out of the satellite, it can also be targeted to land on a ground or naval target within half a mile after the self destruct is activated.
Missiles
The primary purpose of the Mjolnir is to fire missiles at a ground or sea target. It carries a standard complement of ten missiles, the size of a normal ICMB, although it can carry as many as thirty. It is capable of launching ten simultaneously, and requires only moments to reload.
It can launch those ten missiles at any target that a regular ICBM can hit, on land or sea. It must be within nine thousand kilometers of directly above the target. The missiles can be equipped with anything from napalm, to fuel air bombs, to nuclear warheads, to less conventional weapons such as nerve gas, or even biological weaponry.
It should be noted, that despite the increased heat resistant tiling required to allow the missile to survive reentry intact, the fact that it needs less fuel as it is propelled by gravity offsets this to allow it to contain the same amount of weaponry as a normal ICBM. The only downside is that standard ICBMs have to undergo an inexpensive but somewhat time consuming conversion process before being used in the Mjolnir.
