A new Beggining, Old Problems(E2)

Dozens of spires rose into the sky growing each minute. Working day and night, the spires slowly rose higher and higher, changing the skyline every hour. The only thing higher than the towers were the massive cranes hauling the goods up to the top. Tremors shook the city, tracing their way up the various towers from the ground. Bulldozers and hundreds of men armed with the modern tools of their trade, including explosives, cleared away the rubble that littered the streets further out in the city.

A city, a metropolis, the seat of an empire, was rising out of the ashes of the past. Built on the same grounds where so many others had ruled, built on the same grounds where so many others had died until this point had been reached. Looking outwards from the cities center, even from one of the new towers that marked the city, you would not be able to see the scars still marking the city, scars that also marked the cities history and future. The nation of Haven had had everything, power, wealth, friends and had squandered it to the point where Haven became wracked by warfare and ceased to exist. The people of Haven though received a second, or perhaps even a third, chance to thrive on this world. The Ottomans decided to help Haven rebuild, although in a new location. Millions of Havenite’s decided to stay, vowing to rebuild the once great nation as it was where it was, but millions more chose to make the trip. When they arrived, the massive number of Havenites quickly filled the nation but that didn’t stop a population boom from happening, the 3 billion mark was crossed, then little over a decade later 3.5 and then 4. The problems that had brought down the Haven before were rising again, but this time in a new way and a civil war broke out.

The war didn’t last long, it died before it was two years old, but the bloodshed was enormous, when four and a half billion people go to war in such a confined area things get out of hand quick. It took almost two years for Delhi, now Haven, to fall, two years almost three hundred million casualties and a tactical nuclear warhead. Though for all the destruction and blood shed, Haven was rebounding quickly, though the question of was it worth it still went through his mind everyday.

Knock knock. Before he could turn away from the window to see who was knocking the door swung wide open and a plump round little man came in. Before Alejandro could say anything the plump little man with fiery eyes spoke up quick in a confident, authoritative voice, “Don’t look at me like that, I knocked, not my fault you couldn’t get your ass over in time.”

“One of these days I’, just going to have you shot Marcos.” Alejandro couldn’t help but grin as he said it clasping Marcos’ hand and motioning him towards a chair.

“You can’t do that any more mister president, we are a democracy nowadays remember?” An innocent grin spread across his face as he tried not to laugh. “On the democratic subject, we have things in place to do local elections in three months with elections for the senate following a month after that. We are moving forward pretty quick.” All one had to do was look outside the window to see just how quickly things were moving forward.

“Yes we are.” Alejandro’s voice lost its enthusiasm. “But are we moving quickly enough?” The both knew the problem wasn’t rebuilding, things could always be rebuilt it only took time and effort. The real problem was space. 4.5 billion people were living in an area not meant to house one billion, overcrowding was an understatement, and the population was still growing steadily. That was the true problem that lay at the root of almost every other problem Haven had faced.

Trying to move on Alejandro changed the subject, somewhat. “Has the alliance with Ottomans been reaffirmed?”

“Ya, its official now.”

“Good”
