Dak, commander in the Klingon Imperial Navy, was in a bad mood. His ship had seen no combat, and moral was dropping fast.

Sir, we have detected a Terren vessel. It is at the edge of the system.
"Set course to intercept! And ready weapons!"
It looked like Dak's day would turn out good after all...

C.S.S. Kahne NCC-2409, Constellation-class
Outside of Terren space...

"Captain! Sensors have detected a Klingon cruiser on intercept course!" shouted a lieutenant.
"Damn," muttered the captain. "Just what we need. Red Alert! Engineering, we need those shields, pronto."
"I'll do my best sir. We need 15 minutes, minimum."
"You've got 5, bridge out." Then he turned to the comm officer. "Send a distress call back to Command. We need reinforcements."

"Closing on the Terren, all weapons ready!" said a warrior.
"Target his engine. Fire!" yelled Dak.

Twin, blood-red disruptor beams lanced out toward the Terren ship.

Outside of Terren space...
Both beams hit the Kahne's upper-port nacelle. It ruptured in a massive plasma fire, sending the ship into a uncontrolled spin...

"Report!" shouted the captain.
"Main power's offline!" replied the opperations officer.
"Helm is not responding!" shouted the helm officer.
"Engineering, where are my shields?" shouted the captain.
Sorry sir! We lost the main shild generator circuts! I'm trying to get main power online!"
"Keep the phasers hot! Bridge out." the captain looked to his weapons officer. "Target that bastard and fire wt will!"

A pair of orange phaser beams reached out from the Kahne toward the Klingon ship...

Three orange fireballs jumped from the battlecruiser's nose and chased the damaged Terren Ship.

At one of the systems hyper-spacial corridors, a dodecahedronal ship appeared, without fanfare.
"Lord, we have detected multiple thresh vessels engaged in combat. They are too numerous to face alone, so I suggest we either remain indiscreet or take a side."
"Either way, we must first sieze any thresh supporting planets. Quantum tunnel to the nearest."
"Your wish."
the ship vanished and re-appeared a momant later, in orbit of a M-class planet.

A small ship drifted peacefully by the battlefield. It was rather odd in appearence, resembling an ancient earth vehicle known as a mini-van, but roughly three times the size and with rocket boosters instead of wheels. It was gray in color with darkened windows. It hailed the Terren ship.

C.S.S. Kahne NCC-2409, Constellation-class
Outside of Terren space...

"Captain! Incoming Torpedoes!"
"Brace for inpact!" yelled the captain.

The first torpedo impacted just aft of the bridge, blowing a hole right through the ship. The second struck the lower-port nacelle, completly destroying it. The third missed completly.

"Report!" ordered the captain.
"All systems ofline!" replied a lieutenant.
"Send a distress signal!"
"Communication's ofline!" reported the comm officer.
"Engineering to bridge! We're losing anti-matter containment! Four minutes to a warp-core breach!"
"That's it," said the captain. "All hands, abandon ship! Computer: Attivate auto-destruct sequence! Authorization, 0-0-0-alpha-0!"

The crew began running to the escape pods. As the pods started to blow away from the ship, the anti-matter tanks lost their magnetic containment fields. The ship exploded in a massive blast, consuming all but 7 escape pods.

"Two ships in the area, a shuttle and a light combat ship. Both of different origins. The remains of a third vessel of yet another design are freshly made. "We are almost at the Kahne's position," replied the 1st officer. "Dropping out of warp now."

The five-ship task force slowed to sublight and entered the system. The force included the Yamato, two Miranda-class cruisers, and two Centaur-class destroyers.

"Sir! I'm detecting debris! It's the Kahne!" shouted the sensor officer.
"Damn! We're too late," said Togo. "Where is the Klingon?"
"1400 kilimeters to starboard!" reported the the lieutenant.
"Go to Red Alert!" ordered Togo.

"Minor damage to the forward hull," reported the engineering officer. "Main power is stable."
"Sir! He's running!" said the 1st officer.

Lt. Wu, the OFI (Office of Fleet Intelligence) officer onboard, began his report. "It appears as though there is a battle going on in the system. "Tell them to stand by," replied Togo. "Do I have a topedo lock?"
"Yes sir!" answered the tactical officer.

The Terren's torpedoes all impacted on Dak's ship, causing massive damage. "Fire weapons!" ordered Dak. "I cannot!" shouted the weapons officer. "Weapons systems have lost power!" Dak pulled out his disruptor pistol and fired upon the weapons officer. He disentigrated in a blast of orange light. "Targ!" shouted Dak. "Someone fire on that Terren animal!" Then an explosion shook the bridge, causing all of the crew to fall to the deck. "Main power is gone!" shouter a warrior. Dak stood up as a torpedo came straight at the bridge. "TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO DIE!" he screamed as it impacted and blew the bridge apart...

The other Klingon battlecruisers began to fight the Terren ships. One fired multiple disruptors at a destroyer, while two more gained up on a cruiser.

The Mini-van ship began to draw closer to one of the centaur-class ships at a leisurely pace, coming in from the side so as not to get caught in the cross-fire. When it was about six hundred meters away, it immediately engaged a shield-like field and switching to a speed roughly equivalent to warp 4, ramming into the centaur ship with its force field still activated.

The Centaur-class destroyer was struck in it's starboard nacelle. The nacelle ruptured and exploded with enough force to send the ship spinning. Only the quick response of the ship's chief engineer saved it from complete destruction, as he managed to eject the warp core and anti-matter pods before they breached. The ship spun powerless and defenseless...

The other destroyer was evading a Klingon vessel, while one cruiser attacked the Klingon ships that gained up on the first cruiser.

The Dauntless' massive fusion drives fired and the boxy bulk of the Dauntless began accelerating towards the fray.

Shaw took the mic and keyed for the intercom, "All hands to General Quarters."

With that the ship moved to combat station. The ships particle cannons powered up, the point defences activated, the Hellhound missle cells spun up, and the ships defensive energy field went to combat power. The Dauntless was ready for battle if it came to that.

Of the six torpedoes, two struct the command pod, destroying the bridge and control systems. One hit the 'neck'and seperated the command section from the rest of the ship. The final three impacted on the engineering hull, blowing holes right through the ship. One hit the engine room and ignited the anti-matter, blowing the ship appart in a spectacular blast.

Of the two battlecruisers attacking the Terren cruiser, one was taking massive damage from the second Terren cruiser. It lost its engine power and started to drift out of the battle zone...

OOC: How did your ship survive the impact?
OOC: Because our ship didn't touch theirs, it was the shield/ramming device, which isn't actually centered on the ship, so the ship can move around within it. When it hit, the force field crunched to a halt, but inertia still acted on the ship, which had time to come to a much more gentle halt.

The destroyer came about and fired both its phasers and torpedoes at the Klingon's now exposed stern.

Meanwhile, the heavily damaged Miranda-class cruiser lost control of its fusion reactors and suffered an explosion at the stern of the ship. This ignited the antimatter, destroying the vessel.

First the phasers struck and over-loaded the battlecruiser's shields. Then the torpedoes struck, and one just happened to impact the ship's aft magazine, setting off the torpedoes stored there. The explosion destroyed the main impulse drive and plasma canduits, leaving the battlecruiser drifting powerless in space...

Of the remaining ships, one had already taken heavy damage and was caught in the Terren cruisers explosion, which then consumed the ship. The last battlecruiser broke off the engagement and jumped to warp speed, on course back to the Klingon homeworld, defeated and dishonored...

Ic: "Doesn't look like they have it under control..."
"Ensign," began the commander in a warning tone.
"Yes, sir."

Interesting, really, that they could have a conversation on the bridge. It was a small feat of engineering, that sounds could stop dead in only a short distance in the massive bridge. Twenty decks suspended in one giant room, over a hundred meters across. Row after row of work stations made up concentric rings around the holographic pillar in the middle which displayed bits of information from the whole ship.

"Bring shields offline, basic alert status. Cut third and fourth tier generators and halve output in first and second. We're here in peace. That said, I want discreet scanning of the other vessels. Nothing to invasive. Send out a few drones to the opposite sides of them for a complete picture."

And with his words the bay door slid open, retracting into the ship like a huge garage door. Sensor drones, a dozen of them, zipped out and wide around the Terren fleet, coming to a slow halt and relaying low level sensors data back to the frigate.

"Tactical update sir. The Terren fleet has few weapons, but their power, both available and residual, is beyond our expectations. They're built for a different kind of combat. Their fire rate is also shown to be high and their arcs wide. They're a better match that we estimated originally. We still seem to outmatch them in maneuvering and small craft capabilities. They use warp technology, set FTL speeds but dime FTL maneuvering."

"Formally advise Command of our situation, unabridged records from the last few hours and an all-clear signal. Contact out new friends again."

We don't intend to intrude, we're just curious. We were sent on a mission of exploration and knowledge expansion, you and your culture are of great interest to Kazecistan.

Through a stroke of luck, one of the Kazecistan sensor probes picked up a small spike of energy near it. This sensor "ghost" had a distinct profile, that of the technology powering the cloaking device of a frigate sized Draconic Order vessel. It seems that Draconic Order was prodding its nose into the other cultures' business again. Although, they didn't seem to acknowledge their cover being compromised, only a few planet-nations had the technology and the experience dealing with the Draconic Order, to notice them.

"DO ship detected, frigate sized, just off one of the drones, cloaked- obviously."
The commander saw a chance at an impressive display and a little humiliation, immediately taking action. "Main port Zat, single burst!" The purple streak of energy leapt from the Kazeci vessel with lightning speed. Their reduced power at that moment forced the lights to flicker, but most of the charge was derived from the batteries. The Zat didn't have the power to do any harm to the DO ship, but that wasn't its intent. They simply sought to reveal its presence. The DO crew would know this; it wouldn't be taken as an act of war.

A message was broadcast for all to hear in a jolly voice:
Draconic Order vessel: there's no need to hide, it's not fooling anyone. Be civilized and speak with us. You know we have a non-aggression pact and that Kazecistan seeks alliance. You have no reason to fear. Besides, I'm sure the Terrens would love to meet you. And you wouldn't want High Command to think of you as a bunch of lurking stalkers, would you? Come now, join us for positive relations with the Terrens; it could bring us closer together and you further from your antisocial tendencies.
Their engines let out a few directed bursts, causing them to glide over to the same side of the Terrens as DO, where they proceeded to get into what would be a socially awkward distance between two people. Coming to a gentle halt, they continued. The Kazecis were having fun.
Just like now, we aren't even close to battle readiness, but we're right next to you. Sure you could kill us, but you won't. < The shadows show us many secrets that the light would blind. Fear does not cloak us, conflict does not inflict its haze through us. One goes out into the galaxy because the galaxy is there, not solely for interaction. This lack of understanding that the Kazeci welcome, will be their undoing in their end times. >

Interaction is forced when one leaves privacy. By leaving your dock and coming here you are forced to interact, yet you try to avoid it. Certainly a goal of such efforts is expansion and that takes no interaction, but there are others in your way. In observing a battle you learn very little, in talking to its participants you learn much. Is some of it a lie? Yes, and most is twisted, but it is information and when combined can bring one much closer to the truth. It is a basic principal that when beings work together for a common goal they go much further than individuals. It took more than one person to build your ship, to feed you and your crew, to repair your vessel, to transport goods, to design your technology, etc. It takes societies working together, individuals being social. Kazecistan understands this and seeks to broaden our collective community. The more people we have working together, the better off we'll be. Progress, then, is defined by social activity. Sitting and idly watching the universe pass gets you nowhere. Xenophobia gets one nowhere.

So we come back to the question of why would anyone wish to avoid contact, if it comes with such great potential? Fear, is it? What other motive have you? You fear getting burned again so you hide? Or has House Kharaan become a pirate cartel? Pirates sneak because they are afraid. Fear is the only possible motive. One certainly gathers less knowledge hiding in these situations.

Summarizing basic Kazeci psychological social philosophy was entertaining, if only because it made them feel better than the DO who 'didn't understand.' The inboard diplomat, Danielle, also saw it as an opportunity to prove that they were 'good people' to the Terrens. If they flaunted their good intent, there would be more ease in future diplomacy. A good show all around.

They turned from the DO ship and powered engines. As they pulled away from that close proximity, the engine wash would give their old -friend- a bit of a rumble. Again, nothing harmful, just a little fun.

< Again, the Kazeci assumes much. Not all races share the Kazeci's cooperative spirit. Avoiding contact is meaningless, as contact will always be. Picking the contact is the sign of a thinking mind, not a feeling one. >

The DO vessel responded, as still as it currently was.

So you presume to pick and choose which is 'worthy' of you? Ha! It should be the other way around, the Galaxy deciding your lack of worth- The Transmission cut for a moment and was quickly restored. There is potential in all relationships when none is known. To make a decision as to weather or not to open relations requires knowledge, and that comes best through open communication. You contradict yourself, giving a noble goal but not the means. We have and execute both. Should a race be deemed unsuitable for relations, they will be denied, but we're far more equipped to make these decisions than you in your current philosophy. The NFL, widely supported in many nations across the galaxy, rules of engagement prove us victorious. Let us end this debate, we're taking these issues lighter than they deserve, you have lost, and none of it is of consequence as neither of us will change our ways.
The Kazeci ship slowed to a stop and turned again to face the Terrens.

< We shall see. >

The DO vessel said before its engines engaged, moving the vessel away from the group of ships, as it headed out-system. It faded from view as it re-engaged its cloak. A spark in space and a jolt on sensors saw it jump out of the system.

"They're not gone."
"Thanks, Captain Obvious."
"Does it matter either way?"
"We could do a comprehensive scan for them."
"That'd work if they stood still for over an hour within our range."
"Again, does it matter? They won't attack, and we no longer need to deal with them- for the moment anyway."

The bridge was basically a giant think tank where rank only mattered during the final decision.
