I know that there is a list of alliances and groups on this site somewhere, my problem is that I can't find it. Can anyone lend me a hand?

I can't find it, but you can find a bunch of alliances by going to "search" and typing in "alliance" or "alliances". That should bring up a bunch.
May I recommend CASS, the Collective Alliance of Secure States. Headed by me, and several other leading members (like Pythogria and Amazonian Beasts), you should be able to find a home there.
