Civil War is over, St.Petersburg is independent. New nation has been formed!
Kronstadtia

The treaty has finally been sign. Baltic Fleet sailors and city militia, local Redblack Guard and anarchist forces managed to keep Moscow's slave soldiers out long enough and cause so horrendous casualties that the enemy decided there was nothing they could do. Peace was the only option.
And now we, The Kronstadt Revolutionary Council, are happy to announce the formation of new nation!
Kronstadtia has risen from the ashes of the Second Russian Civil War, pure and free of all the twisted teachings of Stalin and his successors, free of the oppression of the owning class - we are the diamond of the revolution! Our economy is still weak, our city, St.Petersburg, is horrifically mauled and even our pride and strongest shield and bringer of protection, The Baltic Fleet, has suffered serious damage. This is however nothing! Our will is strong, our unity is unmatched, and we will overcome these difficulties in our path towards The Perfect Society!
Despite this, we fully understand that no nation, not to mention a small as Kronstadtia, can be completely self-supporting in these modern times of specializing. Furthermore, relations with other nations are also diplomatically essential for us since our most sincere wish is to live in harmony and friendship with all the peoples and nations of the world. As our motto goes;
"Every war is a civil war, because all men are brothers!".
So, we stand here, hands streched out towards The International Community, in all friendliness, brotherhood and fraternity. Trade proposals, embassy exhanges, founding and joining alliances plus, most importantly, getting new friends is what we are looking and asking from it.
Sincerely Yours,
The Kronstadt Revolutionary Council

Out of character: Did I do something wrong with the post? Or is this just a boring nation? No one seems to be interrested... :(
Interesting nation. What composes it? Is St. Petersburg the only city?

Kronstad naval base island, St.Petersburg (the name will be changed, but I thought I'll make another In Character post about that desicion) and a small rural area around it. Haven't thought exact details, but propably it'll be a circle, inside Luga-Mga-Viaborg-line.
The Secular Empire of Maraque wishes to open diplomatic relations with your nation and form an alliance.

The first offer of The Secular Empire of Maraque has been gladly accepted! Your embassy is the first one in our beautiful city, and we will make sure it's in good condition when you ambassador arrives. We will send First Seaman Vladimir Dobutkin as our ambassador to your mighty country.
About the alliance we must discuss further. Defensive alliance against unprovoked aggression will be certainly accepted, but due the rather sharp contrast between our ideologies the deepness of this alliance must be thought our. Nevertheless, we consider you as a Friendly Nation now, and thank you for this act of friendliness.
Sincerely Yours,

We have prepared a spot for your embassy. We hope you have done so for us. Alexander Cromwell will be our representant to your esteemed nation.
Unfortunately we can't offer much militarily, but I'm sure we could come up with something that could benefit your country some how.

(OOC: For a long time I played a manifestation of BG based in and around Finland, owing its revolutionary politics to those who escaped the slaughter at Kronstadt and settled in Finland. We never controlled St.Petersburg, but otherwise the principle was the same. Eventually I found it too much conflicting with a thousand other players based in and around Russia, and moved back to the Indian Ocean, but that's beside the point!)
Tolosa, largest city in the domain of the Tectosages -indeed, in the whole Indian Soviet Commonwealth- bustled with all the enhanced activity that met an assembly of the Soviet Commune and the Final Senate. The world's biggest hillfort with the world's biggest roundhouse at its centre, Tolosa more normally witnessed in such gatherings discussion that was centred on the conclusion of major inter-tribal public works or the rendering of financial aid to labour movements in the cruel Kingdom of the Geletians with which the Commonwealth shared the Geletian continent.
Today, the elected and accountable bodies of the Soviet and Senate authorities were approving official recognition and diplomatic approaches to Kronstadtia.
Though the Soviet Commonwealth counted two billion excitable citizens from the continent's six and a half billion residents, it had few friends in the world, for it was the Kingdom -with three billion unenthused royal subjects under its effective authority- which received official recognition the world over as Geletia's legitimate ruiling body.
This did not prevent the unrecognised Soviets from applying their own recognition to Kronstadtia, which they did in a communiqué signed by the (elected) Marshals of the Commonwealth Guard, accountable officers from a delegation of the Commonwealth Professional Civil Service's agency, and several citizens nominated by their peers to represent on the issue. Refering to them as comrades, the Soviets congratulated the people of Kronstadtia on the success of their valiant and well-fought defence, and expressed regret at their own inability to send aid while the fight had been raging- in cause of this they cited the threat of invasion by the Kingdom's own conscript hordes.
"Since 1921 have we waited for a sign that the repression and slaughter initiated by Trotsky, supervised by Dzerzhinsky, and enabled through the miseducated bulk of the Red Army, has not killed in Russia the spirit of revolution and self-rule.
"Now that we see the spark retaken by red fuel in every Kronstadt heart, it is the sincere wish of all free-spirited men and women of Geletia that its fires be kept in friendship with our own."
It was in such language that the body of the letter was conducted, and the practical end was an invitation to trade between all who toil under free representation in Kronstadtia and Geletia, and, in essence, to a pact of mutual defence to the revolution of both peoples. Soviet liason officers would, if agreeable, be elected for dispatch to Kronstadtia, and like would be accepted in the Commonwealth (it was not expected that heavy trade would be conducted, since nobody was sure that Kronstadtia held many natural resources, but the tone of the letter gave the impression that limited aid may be available from the Commonwealth, if required).
Greetings,
Ormar, Emperor of the Modest Empire of Isie, welcomes your regime to the international community. We believe, as a dimunitive nation ourselves, that the small must band together for mutual protection. It is with this consideration in mind that I, Emperor Ormar, propose an ambassadorial exchange. Over time, we hope relations can develop, and that we will learn much about each other's country, culture, and diplomatic goals. Perhaps one day, we will be allies.
Most Sincerely,
Emperor Ormar

This is distressful. This area, along with Karelai, is the most argued area between to of my region's senior members, Premier and Fører, Coombac Kidd of Nordic Union, and Czar Nikolai Aleksandrovich Romanov of Imperial Pan-Russia. Naturally they may take this area as good as any a war zone, so I ask for you to increasing your defenses, to dissuade their argueing, which might draw in the rest of the Pan Galactic Confederation.

To The Soviets of Beth Gellert
Your suggestions have been met with graet joy and celebrating! We could not have hoped for a better friend and ally than the mighty Indian Soviet Commonwealth that has now approached us. First, the alliance proposal has been immediately accepted in all three sub-councils, the Sailors' Council, Workers' Council and Redblack Guard Council. Kronstadt Revolutionary Council has therefore unanimously accepted, signed and ratified the Pact of Mutual Defense.
About diplomacy, we're ready to send our ambassador, Naval Cadet Sergei Grigorijevits Strapanov, immediately or as soon as you see fit. Your representant is also naturally most welcome to our beautiful city.
About trade, we must say that even though the natural resources of Kronstadtia are quite limited and our agricultural production is barely enough to keep our own population fed, our heavy industry - shipbuilding docks, metal works, steel, tank, automobile, train, artillery, small arms and ammunition factories, chemical facilities - is strong and effective. It is our sincere wish and strong belief that our trade relations will become fairly two-sided, since even though all aid and support will be gladly accepted we wish not to become dependant on it, to sponge in any ways.
These issues can and should be further discussed, and we look happily forward to that.
Sincerely Yours,
The Kronstadt Revolutionary Council

To Emperor Ormar of the Modest Empire of Isie
Your friednly words have been met with joy, but that happines is being diminished by the oppressive nature of your governmental system. We wish not to become allies and defenders of nation that refers to its citizens as "human resources". Embassies can be exhanged, and limited trade is also perhaps possible, but we need to see improvement in your treatment of the working class before our relations can get any warmer.
Sincerely,

To Spiral Sun
We fully aknowledge the great distress and turmoil that are still reigning all over Russia. We sincerely thank you for this warning, but it isn't needed. We have gained our independence through war, and are prepared to defend it with arms should need arise.

OOC: The words nation-states uses to describe the condition of the public is bent for dramatic affect. The actual state of matters is that the people, of course, are considered below those above them in caste positions. However, they are not forced to slave or even do excessive work without pay. A citizen of Isie is "A Citizen of Isie" and they have rights as individuals to own property, seek and hold a desired profession within the bounds of their caste (or even attempt to advance above their caste), have a wife/husband and children who are their responsibility (not the laboring property of the "State").
The simple fact is that the "oppression" that is occuring in Isie is the exclusion of advanced technology and foreign culture influence, not because the government fears it will undermine their authority and power, but because according to the "Fundamentalist" following of the Waning Mistress of the Night, her people have already reached harmony within their society and culture. The people of Isie believe in the truth of their Goddess' words, and Ormar is the voice of those words. I challenge you to find me a dissenting voice in the soul that is our people.
He ran himself through in the Palace Hall, and was miraculously healed.
He sat on the Amber throne, and was not burned.
He passes on the word of the Mistress.

Clondicus of Pessinus, a respected Senate orator of the Tolistobogi tribe (generally amongst the most hard-core opponents of westernisation, Christianisation, and market reform, described derisively by the Kingdom as ancient Celts with tractors), was the man nominated by his peers to represent the Commonwealth as ambassador to Kronstadtia, and he flew from the Indian Ocean domain of the Geletians to distant Petersburg aboard the imposing aerial salami that was a turboprop-driven Marathon transport, one of the bigger export successes of the Commonwealth's economically inconsistent lifetime.
Naval Cadet Sergei Grigorijevits Strapanov would be granted residence at Tolosa, inside the giant ringed earthworks of the centuries-old hillfort there. He would find the Geletians -those outside the hated Kingdom- almost unchanged since their towering ancestors left Central Europe more than two thousand years earlier. Two-metre high giants who failed even to recognise the Julian or Gregorian calendars, the Commonwealthers are inspired in their revolutionary politics only as much by events such as the first Kronstadt uprising and the second Paris Commune as by their own traditions: since before their people adopted the practice of keeping written records the Geletians have held land in common, tied tools to work (leading to riots on the introduction of pawnbrokers in the Kingdom), lived communally, and elected local leaders to gather in regular council. He may at times be frustrated by the Geletian work ethic, which seems often to come second to drinking, fighting, story-telling, and generally making merry, but if he can manage to stomach undiluted Geletian wine and learn to spin a good yarn, he may find that it is far from impossible to impress a point upon any given audience.
As the two societies look to trade, the Kronstadtian people will find it easy to acquire non-essential items in exchange for like: the Commonwealth will swap gallons of strong wine and narcotic-laced ales for genuine Russian vodka, for example, and traditional Geletian garments for their northern equivalents. When it comes to matters of more economic rather than cultural value, the Geletians appreciate Kronstadtia's caution in not wanting to become reliant upon foreign hand-outs. In similar fashion, the Soviets insist upon building everything that they need, and usually import only the raw materials that their territory lacks, processing the materials themselves. In the case of Kronstadtia, this is unlikely to lead to significant trade, and so exceptions must be made.
In the short term, the Soviets certainly would be prepared to order merchant vessels from Kronstadtia's yards, since their own facilities are relatively young and as yet of limited capacity, and can supply goods from iron ore to tungsten, and natural gas to the produce of Geletia's vast tracts of arable land. There is also interest in supplying the raw materials for Kronstadtia to produce small-arms ammunition for reexport to the Commonwealth owing to a severe under-preparedness for modern war that exists at this time.
(Excuse me if I'm a bit long-winded, sometimes :) )
OOC-Just to tell you here but the revolution has started in my nation.
The government of the United Democratic Empire of Qxilua would like to establish relations with Kronstadtia. We shall send an international envoy, Ambassador Frederico Scott, to your country and give your newly formed government 300,000 qxaalas with which you may do what you like. Might we establish an embassy in your glorious nation?
Sincerely,
Cmdr-in-Chief 1st Class, Qxiluan Imperial Army, Emperor Ben S. Kinsman

Kronstadtia has, of course, a rather large vodka production sector, but most of the sweet liquir it bottles is used in home. However, due the proposed trade, facilities can and will be expanded. Clondicus of Pessinus will notice, when he arrives, that quite enough for the domestic use is produced already.
Adult population is drunk averagely 78% of the time they're not working, and about 20% of the time they are. Liver failure is therefore the most common cause of death in Kronstadtia, quite closely followed by the Drunken Accidents, a term used apparently by no other healthcare system than that of Kronstadtia, due the obvious reasons. In the streets of St.Petersburg there are also couple of other quite characteristic features that will immeadiately be noted by a random visitor, besides the high number of drunken people.
There are soldiers everywhere, of both main branches of Kronstadtian military; Baltic Fleet Sailors (acting as both crews and Naval Infantry) and Redblack Guard, militia force that includes nearly all men and women between the age of 17 and 45. (Only some 10% are normally on active duty at the same time though.) Seamen wear completely black, traditional uniform of Russian navy. Redblack Guard unform is quite unrestricted, usually including some sort of camouflage trousers, jackboots and brown, dark green or camouflage greatcoats plus the red&black armband that the whole organization has gotten its name. Troops of both branches are armed with AK-74M's, long sword-bayonettes, RPD's, potato-smasher hand grenades and RPG-18's.
These scarred, seasoned veteran fighters patroll the streets all the time, since Kronstadtia still has no established police force. All members of Redblack Guard are also free to carry their weapons whenever they wish to, but doing that requires the use of "uniform" also. All in all, men with Kalashnikovs and armbands are a permanent part of the city streetlife. Sailors from Kronstadt base spend nearly all fo their free time in the city also, and always carry weapons.
Third thing is the condition of the city. St.Petersburg was besieged by the troops of Moscow government for over thirteen months, and was kept under almost constant artillery fire for that time, not to mention the countless bombing raids and fierce battles that took place all around the city, mostly in the suburban area. There are still plenty of holes in the walls, craters in the streets, shrapnells pointing out of walls, doors and trees, sanbags on the roofs and street corners, completely collapsed buildings and other signs of fighting. Much has been fixed by now, but there's still a lot of job left to do, before the city will achieve the beauty of the times before the war.
Posters. Posters are everywhere, together with the flags. In the walls of every single building there are propaganda and other posters as well as paintings and tags sprayed by the youth. Spraying isn't illegal in Kronstadtia, as long as the material and message are acceptable, and the kids naturally use this liberty as much as one could assume. There are also red&black flags, flags with faces and/or names of heroes such as Victor Makhno, Lev Trotsky, Ernesto Che Guevara, Emiliano Zapata and Buenaventura Durruti, among others, more local and newer idols.
This indeed is the City of Revolution, and the Nation of The Working Class.
OOC: Np at all! It's much more fun to read long and detailed posts than those more compact ones. :)

Clondicus will no doubt settle into life as Indian Soviet ambassador to Kronstadtia in pretty short order. Being a Geletian, he has since the latter part of what most nations may consider childhood engaged in the consumption of the produce of an unregulated alcohol industry in a culture that considers the purpose of a night's indulgence nothing more than a race between comrades to become absolutely paralytic. Commonwealth interest in Kronstadtian vodka as a novelty import is owing largely to the fact that mass-produced vodkas in the capitalist world -being usually around 40% abv- are considered frustratingly difficult to get drunk by after generations of natural selection hardened the Geletian constitution against alcohol's intoxicant effects.
If Kronstadtia's own embassy staff in the Commonwealth have any fears about the possibility of their making a faux pas or forgetting themselves and ending up in trouble with the law after painting a slogan on the side of somebody's home, they may relax: graffiti is also permitted and common in Soviet territory, and, besides, the Commonwealth has no police force, either. Traditionalists point out that one was never needed in the past, and it was only the introduction of property rights in the neighbouring Kingdom -and with it the stratification of society- that created the vast majority of crime for which the Kingdom arrests its own citizens, anyway.
One possible cause for friction is the fairly high chance of Clondicus taking exception to reverence for Trotsky, who, in reference to the original Kronstadt uprising, said, "The best, most sacrificing sailors were completely withdrawn from Kronstadt and played an important role at the fronts and in the local Soviets throughout the country. What remained was the grey mass with big pretensions, but without political education and unprepared for revolutionary sacrifice" which must surely be seen as a great slap in the face, considering that thousands of individuals amongst that, 'grey mass' fought to the death against the Red Army units sent-in by men whom Trotsky would defend, as he would the whole bloody affair, saying, "I was a member of the government, I considered the quelling of the rebellion necessary and therefore bear responsibility for the suppression" a suppression which included the murder of civilians, handing of anarchists to the Cheka, and the proof of Bolshevism's deliberate and planned quashing of revolutionary democracy in Russia.
Daubing Trotsky's image -in reverent light- on Soviet walls is a good way to have oneself cornered by Commonwealth peers and forced to hear many an hour of lecturing on the importance of democracy and of education for all, not just a political elite. In the Soviet Commonwealth, Bolshevism is considered equal to if not greater than capitalism in the list of the revolution's enemies.
(OOC: That tangent went on longer than I intended!)
On a more positive note, Clondicus -six and a half feet tall with brown hair to his shoulder and a thick moustache almost as long (though otherwise closely shaven with an open blade), often insistant upon going with sandaled feet even in the snow, always wearing hand-woven chequered trousers and not infrequently a heavy cape fixed with a huge and ornate golden broach- is fairly quick to offer the Commonwealth's services in providing university-level educations to hopeful Kronstadtian engineers and others likely to be required by a nation looking to rebuild itself after such a harsh military conflict as has been endured here.
(*Goes off to look for this other revolution that has been mentioned :) *)

Trostky's insulting comments and twisted opinion about the original Kronstadt Uprising are of course well known in Kronstadtia, but due the anarchist nature of Kronstadtian society there are many of those who see him as a great man, a true philosophist and leader, and that he was just simply mislead with the issue of uprising, that it was just a mistake. They are free to express their opinion, even though majority of Kronstadtians put Trotsky into the same category with Stalin and Lenin, and don't really appreciate them too much.
Pictures of Stalin are one of the few themes that banned, not that there would be too many people willing to make them anyways.
All in all, the prevailing -ism is anarchism - anarcho-syndicalism, anarcho-collectivism, anarcho-communism - and the vast majority of posters, flags and paintings support them. Trotskyists, hard line socialists and traditional communists are clearly in opposition, and form only a rather small political minority.
After hearing about Clondicus' suggestion about sending exhange students to universities and technical schools of Indian Commonwealth, thousands of students as well as numerous workers from different branches and factories have volunteered, and it seems likely that this program will become extremely popular and succesful one. Kronstadti Naval Academy, Parisya Kommuna Metal Works Institute and Pavlov's Science University, oldest and best of the country, have opened their doors for Gellertian exhange students.

The People´s Republic of Montegrande fully recognizes Kronstadtia´s independence and also wishes to propose the government of Krostandtia for exchange of embassadors. The government of Montegrande (even qhen we´re economy isn´t powerful to give large economic help) is willing to offer a small contingent of infantry (mainly as international presence and war instructors), educators, some health supplies and medics and some kind of alliance. The high consumption of alcohol is alarming (not only for the liver, also because it alienates) and we suggest the revolutionary council to legislate not to prohibit alvohol use but to try to prevent alcoholism in the nation...

We happy for this expression of good will and brotherhood by the brave people of Montegrande, and gladly accept the suggestion of exchanging embassies. Cab Driver Julian Pondita (00C: His grand grand parents were Catalanian anarchists who escaped after the civil war in '39) has been chosen to be our representant in your beautiful nation, and your diplomat is most welcome to St.Petersburg as soon as you see fit.
The kind offer of sending troops and other supporting personell has been accepted also. Doctors, teachers and such aren't exactly desperately needed, but it is always profitable to learn of methods, doctrines and specialities. Perhaps this could be arranged in similar way to the program we have been establishing with the mighty Indian Commonwealth - exhanging students between universities et cetera?
You are also, like said, free to send a military force up to 1,000 men/women, for the same reasons stated above. Our armed forces are quite capable of defending our land already, but exhanging knowledge never does any harm.
Sincerely Yours,
The Kronstadt Revolutionary Council
The Counter-Revolutionary States of Modokov fully recognises independent country of Kronstadtia and are glad to hear that you have risen against the opressive regime of Russia. We would like to change ambassadors with Your country and further cooperation would be appreciated.

Propotion about exhanging embassies has been approved. With all due respect we must however turn down the suggestion considering "political advisors" to be sent here. As devotedly revolutionary nation Kronstadtia can't allow counter-revolutionary agents to spread propaganda in our streets.

We thank you, Kronstadtia, on behalf of our people for your wise actions and are glad to hear that you have accepted our proposition. A member of the people's court, Adae Mjelkhov, will be sent as a representative of Modokov. May our good relations last for long!
As for the political advisors, we are sorry that you did not accept our generous offer, but as an independent, democratic country we understand your reasons and will not interfere with your politics. We, as an united nation, wish Kronstadtia the best of luck in your war against imperialism!
Socialism prevails!

Our embassador in St. Petersburg shall be Millaray Montoya. She is a promising young diplomat(she is 27 years old), the best in her generation in Montagrande´s diplomatic academy and we hope her involvement will be perfect. Embassador Pondita will be affectously received by Montegrande and we wish to know the date of his arrival to grant him an official welcome that he, as embassador of Kornstadtia deserves. The name of the Revolutionary Metropolis, Home Of The Brave - known as St.Petersburg before this day - has now been, once again, officially changed.
After being originally named as St.Petersburg after the Czar that was ruling the wide Russia back then, then after the Bolshevik Revolution as Leningrad after this infamous communist, then for a short period as Petrograd for some reason, the city has now got its final name - a name that shall never be changed from what it now is; Bakuningrad, after the famous anarchist philosopher of the 19th century.
Celebrations that are to last three days have been announced, while Redblack Guard and Baltic Fleet Sailors shall perform in the greatest parades evers seen in the long history of our beloved city. The fleet and Kronstadt coastal batteries are also to fire all their weapons to honour Mikhael Bakunin, Nestor Makhno, Georges Sorel, Emiliano Zapata, Buenaventura Durruti and the countless thousands that have fought for the anarchist ideals that have now come to reality in the Cityl of Revolution.

OOC: St. Petersburg was called first Petrograd during the WWI (the Czar said St. Petersburg sounded like german and wanted to give the city a more russian name). Then it was called Leningrad after the red october of 1917 (it was exactly after the ciuvil war... but anyway, red october sounds well, hahaha)
