The nation of Cantacuzenia is led by a monarchy that descends from Matthaios Asanēs Kantakouzēnos(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Cantacuzenus), a Royal of the Eastern Roman Empire, known as the Byzantine Empire. When Kantakouzenos came to the nation, he had with him, many citizens from Constantinople and other parts of the Byzantine Empire. Matthaios kept the Orthodox faith of Constantinople, the Cantacuzenian Orthodox Church being established soon after the establishment of Cantacuzenia.

Matthaios landed in Cantacuzenia in the year 1381, with the Byzantine citizens. In 1387, New Constantinople was established, other cities were as well. Matthaios also protected the Native Cantacuzenians, the people who already inhabited some of the lands. Matthaios died in the year, 1391 (may change) and his nation passed on to his son, Manuel. Manuel expanded the Empire and for this, he is known as the Expansionist. After Manuel, other rulers came and ruled Cantacuzenia, the Orthodox Church and the nation both flourished.

The current leader is in fact a usurper, a man known as John Orphanotrophus took the throne from the rightful heir, Anastasia who is only a child at this time.
