the people

after the war with the Han and the war in Aust Kirisubo entered a period of peace. the defence forces were strengthened and equiped with new technology as it became available.

as a result the Imperial navy is a potent force and mainly operates against pirates.

with a period of peace the Kirisubans rebuilt and the arts flourished again. the tea ceremony has reached its height as an art form and now both noblemen and ladies practice it.

at this stage in history the nation has opened up to the world and even former enemies trade peacefully in the treaty ports. they remember their allies off old and maintain ties with them.

Kirisubo has undergone a minor industrial revolution and is looking at building steamships in the future once the steam engine can be improved. they manufacture their own cannons and the increase in the manufacturing industry has brought more people from the country to now larger towns.

with the caste system now disbanded farmers have more incentive to continue farming with a reduced tax burden.

military forces

1/2 million men under arms in the Imperial Army. forces are stationed in major cities and at strategic points near the coast line.

the Imperial navy has been strengthened and improved with average ships of the line replacing war junks. there are 40 such ships in the Kirisuban fleet at this point off time. 60 Warjunks are still used as supply ships and the coastal galley is still a very familiar sight being used by the military and merchants alike.

They operate from major ports on the east and west coasts of the home islands. the main port is Osaka.

A levy system based on the old feudal armies ensures that every able bodied man is able to answer the call to arms if he is needed.

The samurai class is still alive and well and are the officer class of the army and navy.

wargear

smoothbore cannon, muskets and pistols are used as well as the traditional officer sword, the Katana and other straight blades for other warriors.

these co-exist with traditional weapons such as ninja gear and the trusty long spear which is still used by sergeants to defend a units colours.

The 'HMS Superior' cut through the waves off the coast of Kirisubo bound for it's allied nation. Captian Timmothy Wright stood at the helm gazing out at the landmass getting larger by the minute, the 'HMS Superior' was a 74 gun ship of the line. The ship had taken some damage due to a scrimish with some pirates along the way, the crew had made the vital repairs.

It was at full sail moving through the rough water.....

ooc: Osaka or Nagasaki would probally be their destination assuming they're approaching from the south

ic: the pair of Kirisuban ships of the line with 50 guns each sailed gracefully out to sea ready to start another patrol.

Captain Rokichi of the 'Surabachi' was also the overall commander of the patrol with also comprised the 'Mount Fuji'.

with the wind fresh and sea conditions choppy they flew the black and red flags proudly from the highest mast.

The first mate of the 'Superior' spotted the incomming vessels,

"Sir we have two approaching ships comming from the north, Imperial vessels"

Captian Wright looked through his telescope at the ships gliding through the water towards them,

"ahh fine ships..maintain our course Lt, we make contact..."

He collasped his telescope and strolled down on to the poop deck....

As the ships appropoached Captain Rokichi Kenji was able to see the Ostian ensigns flying from their masts.

"they're our Ostian allies" he tells his first mate Abe Ryu "no need to be worried. send signal flags to them identifying us and inviting them to join us for a meal"

the flags are run up by the crew and the Mount Fuji sends signals in Kirisuban across to the Surabachi acknowledging the new orders.

Captian Wright notices the signal flags then gives his orders,

"Prepare the marines for presentation, we follow them in..on their course.."

The first mate Johnathan Carrier bellowed out the orders. The marines below decks prepared themselves to be inspected by their captian, the 'Superior' moved in to follow their allies.

more flags were flown asking the Superior to follow them into the sheltered cove near Osaka.

the water was deep enough to form a natural harbour and an ideal place to meet an ally.

the cove was more than large enough for all the ships and the kirisuban sailors and officers got ready to greet their allies.

the officers were already in their navy blue kimono's and black hakama and the sailors got changed into their 'uniforms' of a cotton white gi jacket and black hakama if they weren't already.

Life in Kyoto was quiet and relaxed as always. The Empress Yukiko was strolling in the palace gardens as her infant son Prince Katsuo was being nursed by a maid.

He gurgled gently as his mother examined the cherry blossoms. she was contemplating new diplomatic contacts and extending the ones they already had.

Also with her was the Tairo, Tatsuo Nakasuma. He has been her late fathers advisor and as well as her tutor so she trusted the wise old mans ideas.

"I would suggest reaching out to Calledon" he suggested "trading links are good but they won't help us if we need military help."

The Empress nods and gets her secretary to send a letter to the Shogun. her 'suggestion' would be raised in the council of Daimyos but she usually got her way.

within two weeks a imperial ship of the line was being readied in Osaka for the trip. on board was Admiral Ryuichi Takahara and his female translator the Lady Genjiko Nakamura.

a few days later they set sail heading east across the pacific, their first stop being the Hawian islands they owned.
