In the combat simulation, Kraven Corporation forces were included, to test the USSNA forces mettle against Kraven Corporation shock troops. The simulation was so precise as to get the Kraven officer's uniforms exactly right, down to the insignias of the Reichsmarshal commanding the assault force on this city. Kraven forces had already captured a suburb in the northeastern corner of town, and all civilians within had been executed. The area was now the Area HQ of Kraven Corporation forces.
The Goal was utter annihilation of all hostile life forms and civilians within the city..
[tag for longer post later]
Atlantian forces prepared themselves for the assault. From UAVs they were aware that forces were deploying on the outskirts of the town, but were unable to get positive fixes.
This lack of inteligence was driving the upper brass crazy; this ment the fight would have to be personal. Orders were given down the chain of command: Hold the town at all cost. An order that echoed in the minds of all the troops there.
In preperation of the town, mines and roadblocks were put into place a field hospitals were erected in building in the town. Even a few of the bridges crossing the river were rigged to explode on command. If Kraven and Willink forces were able to push past the outskirts, they would hold at the river.
Willink Deployment Area
Willink Troops were the first to move. Four Squads of twelve, supported by light Machine gun cover and Mortar postions further back began to advance slightly forward from Point 13.
The troops walked alongside the bridge, before wading across the large stream while taking cover at the riverbanks. They were to make a defensive point at the Small Cabin just off the road in a brush area, overlooking the main road and waypoint H. From base, two Type 42's moved to block the bridge, and the Mortar team began to set up, and upon order would commence bombardment of Waypoint H with 81mm Mortars, a mix of Smoke and HE explosives to darken up the area.
After a bombardment had finished, the 48 men would move in, taking cover and clearing out the defenders with quickly set up MK-19's and Armor Peircing Machine Gun fire at windows and building frames. After that, 4 Type 42's would move in to defened the main roads. This was the first objective of their mission.
As the mortar barage began, Baker Unit (Dog, Delta and Beta squads (ten-men each) of the 1st Platoon, Bravo Company), we forced to take cover inside the buildings at waypoint Hangman. That had erected sandbag bunkers within the rooms of the buildings for just such an occasion. One of the men, Captain John H. Gearing; leader of the detachmentordered that as soon as the enemies mortar barage stopped, a counterfire we to be fired at Hayman aswell. The rounds were to be HE-Frag and targeted slightly northeast fron the waypoint to avoid friendly fire.
Using their thermal imagers the soldiers of Baker Unit we able to detect movement across the small river, but were unable to identify their targets. Because of the civilian population in the area, all soliders had to verify their targets before engauging; at least for now.
A few snipers in the roof of building on the hillside north of Waypoint Hangmen also reported movement across the river, but they too had their standing orders: identify targets before firing. After the smoke cleared though, there we to cover the battered waypoint. In order to hide their position, they put flash supressors on their rifle and made sure to only fire out the small holes in the buildings roof.
Back at Waypoint Hangman:
"SARGE! How Long Do You Think This Will Last!?" asked Cpl. Valin.
"What?!" - Sgt. "Starky" Stark.
"HOW-LONG?!?!"
"When pigs fly Corporal! Hell if I know!"
Cpl. Valin was a raw recruit out of training. He was a good soldier, but inexperianced. Sgt. Starky on the other hand was 32 years old and was a veteran of several wars. He has been offered numerous promotions, even a battlefield comission to Lieutenent, but declined them. He is an adrenaline addict and wishes to be close to 'his' troops.
After the enemy shelling stoped. Sure enough another began. This time, coming from another angle...
