your weapons can be made from your own nation (I.E. find some thing on the net or design it your self) as for money check your defence budget

Er, okie dokie. Construction is simple. you look at the size of your nation, work out what you think would be reasonable (assumption being at the moment you're small), and claim to have it. if you want to use existing world tech, your call. I myself prefer starships and so on. Big difficulty here is in not OVERstating how big you are. Nobody respects someone with a million tanks and half their population as infantry.
To begin with, you might want to use some basic real-world stuff to get a sense of scale. For a 5 million nation, something like 30,40,000 men as "infantry" should be adequate (if you include that into that number support staff.) and several hundred tanks, plus a small navy and airforce. Maybe a few destroyers, and 70 or so aircraft. Things like that. Besides, I always find it's best to go smaller, and build up, than overshoot and look a fool.

Some people use economy calculators though I myself hate them - that's personal opinion to work out budget.

War, same as military construction, is all roleplayed - not roleplayed as "My leader stood up on the balcony and said "We are going to destroy them and I move 5,000 tanks to their capital" and the crowd cheered" but.... you know. Plotline. Look at the stickies at the top, and read peoples roleplays for pointers on that. It's not all about war though. some of the posters I respect most go to war only as the last resort.

Try and establish characters and be realistic. Countries don't go to war because their head of state woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and if the leadership tried, the civs won't stand for it. That kinda stuff.

what beats what? simple use Anti-tank weapons, SMg's, MG's, and other weapons and RP your loses

I made an army but does it sound reasonable

75,000 troops
200 tanks
150 fighters
5 airplane carriers
100 troop transporters/bombers
and since my country produces guns I dont have to worry about them.

A bit big(at least if you want modern/state of the art). Your defence budget is in the triple digit millions while most aircraft carriers cost in the billions(the Nimitz is 4.5 billion), and planes are likewise way up there. A F-22 Raptor costs 338 Million. Infantry are cheap, when you go after armour/air/navy you get into the expensive stuff, unless you want to go after the old model stuff(Vietnam era)

It is recommended that your military is never bigger than 5% of your nation, or 10% as a last ditch attempt that includes armed citizens and militias (defense).

What I do is I set a (population capacity):

My current population is 12 million. Times that by .05 (5%), and I get 600,000 as my military pop cap. I then set infantry as worth 1, tanks and small vehicles and flying craft as 2, ships as 500, and nukes as 5000.

So using those parameters, I could have 600,000 infantry, or 1,200 ships if I just focused on one thing as my focus. This is just how I do it, agree with it or not, and if you choose to do it this way you can set how much a unit or regiment is worth yourself (for example, you could say that planes actually cost five or something).

Others look up prices, and just see how much they could buy with their nation's defense budget and stuff, but I feel my way is realistic enough to pass, not god moding, and not as time consuming.

I have a question myself though, I have noticed that everyone seems to use made up weaponry, like the Z1 Assault rifle or whatever. Is it okay if you just say that a particular soldier has an AK-74 or M-16A4 or whatever?

when you buy something is there a way to decrease your budget or do you just let it alone??

Most people take pre-existing rifles and 'modify' them somewhat. Essentially develop them and as long as they aren't god-moding(one shot kills a tank/instantly kills a person/can't miss/fires a thousand shots a second ect) it would be fine.

No, you're budget stays the same even if you 'buy' something. It's mostly honour system/logic/common sense.

By answering in a manner that is pro-military in your issues. Also smilies should be used sparingly/if at all.
