...where Ares is the only God, and Steelia is his prophet. [Open PMT, the real one.]

Steel and Fire
11-05-2006, 20:17
On television screens around the world, the images are suddenly replaced with static and a blank screen.

Silence.

Then music.

http://www.aquarianage.org/lore/files/mars.mid

Onscreen an image suddenly flickers to life -- a soldier, clad in full NBC gear and battle-armour, face hidden by a gas mask, the emblem of a silver sword emblazoned upon his chest, standing stiffly to attention with his assault rifle and armament at his side.

Slowly the image begins to zoom out, showing more similarly clad and armed soldiers around him, an endless line stretching back until it blends with the horizon, the banners of war fluttering to the inexorable drumbeats of Holst. Then the image continues to zoom upwards, showing from high above a formation of soldies so long that it stretches back for miles. Around them, tanks and artillery numbering in the thousands... helicopters and fighter jets so numerous in the skies they blot out the sun...

Then, over this, a liquid woman's voice begins to speak in mellifluous, almost seductive tones, while the music is momentarily muted.

A Nation Forgotten.

Perhaps that was unwise of the world.

For ages past Steelians had to fight for their lives. Against piracy, against invaders, against natives.

From that, we grew strong. War became our way of life. Defending against constant attacks upon our hard-won land, we built up powerful defencive systems. Massive industries devoted to war sprung up and began turning out quantities of powerful equipment.

Now the scene is fading out into a strangely blue vapour, upon which part of a face, or its outlines, is emblazoned... blue mists swirl around it, making it invisible, but it is definitely the source of the voice.

But for years now, the attackers have learned not to attack us. The Steelian people are growing unhappy, their land crowded. We have few choices left now. We need more resources, and badly.

We wish to warn the world now. Steel and Fire is on the march. And we are bringing destruction with us. You are either with us, or against us.... and if the latter, you can prepare for death.

Our first target will be....

Her voice dies down as the image on screen fades into the scene of the massive Steelian armies once more. Then an order is shouted in some harsh tongue, and the troops begin to march forward in perfect unison, carrying their weapons with pride, banners flying in the wind as the sound of millions marching forth causes the very earth to rumble and shake as the sky darkens with the thousands of jets passing overhead....

[ooc:] Open. Anyone can decide to be the target of the invasion. You are assumed to be a nation directly bordering Steel and Fire if so.

Please be aware that this is PMT; i.e. expect supertanks, railguns, hypersonic interceptor planes, maybe even the odd AT-AT style bipedal tank if I'm feeling up to it. The previous thread was mislabeled as MT, which led to a good deal of confusion and hard feelings.

Also, yes I can support these numbers, I have 3.756 billion people and the vast majority work in some kind of industry related to military.

Thank you.

OOC: You could invade me, I suppose. I'm an average RPer, and very fair as things go. My nation smaller than yours (2.6 Billion), but is also an incredibly militaristic nation. My homeland's geography is very, very defensive to make up for the differences in size.

Your choice, anyways.

Oh wait... damn, I'm an island nation. Obviously I couldn't be directly bordering you. Although, I have territory outside the mainland...

[ooc:] That would make us even then. And sure, I like a challenge.

OOC:Well, as an island nation in PMT, I'll be a sideliner, but congrats on the clarification. You make very readable and gripping stories. I can't wait to say how your ships compare to an Im Eisen Geschreiben!
IC: Detlev Hallget stormed into high command, his boots crunching on the gravel floor.
"You saw that, people. They wan't war, we give em war. With or against is subject to change. For now, activate marine brigade and First Fleet, and keep the comm guys straining their ears. That's all."

IC:

The horizon of this view is of mountian. You hear a rumble of waves. A local sailor stands near you; watching the odd shift of tides. Something is happening.

On the horizon a bleak grey and a dim black slowly slide towards the short. A bring large explosion replaces the once-calm horizon. The battle between day and night is replaced by war. The one-time sunset is darkened indefinately. The sky is once more bleak than ever; no stars though.

OOC: This is my fleet. The explosion is what I call an ash-bomb. It covers the sky like a volcanic eruption. The missile is huge, and detonates about 100,000 feet above sealevel.

Island nations seem rather popular these days, LOL. Well, I can always be invading a bordering colony of your nation or something similar.

Also, HRB:

a) How does this ash-bomb work?
b) How did your fleet get close enough to Steelia to fire it?
c) Most of the Steelian population lives underground, with mostly military bases and suchlike on the surface anyway, so it won't have too much of an effect.

OOC:Yeah, I do have several large colonies around places. I'll just say one is next to you.

My civilian population lives mostly underground also, as excessive industrialization and pollution has turned most of the surface into a toxic wasteland (not very pleasant to live in..). The colonies would be similar, but minus the toxic wasteland. The civvies live underground mainly because there's more room there.

Interestingly enough, NSEconomy says that my military budget is three times yours. But I don't go by those numbers too much.

I'd put more, but I'm out of time... I'll be on later. Like 4:00 PM Pacific Time.

I'm looking forward to being invaded.

Schlachtflotte A, Versorgungsflotte A, and Angrifflotte A together formed Boozia's first naval expeditionary force. On the deck of the super-carrier Schmaldt, Admiral Keklen surveyed his forces, and they looked in fine shape, ready to kill or die at a moments notice. They had to be, because the naval engagement they had been ordered to intervene into was straight ahead.

Heh, reminds me of my nation a good deal; except most industry and powerplants have moved underground as well due to nuclear testing and fallout...

Well, if you had that kind of budget it would be North Korea or Pakistan on steroids: virtually no economy, little money for anything else, unhappy and impoverished citizenry who could be easily turned to radical terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda... I have virtually the same percentage, but that's workable because the people are still afforded a decent standard of living with an average income slightly above the poverty line

I'd put more, but I'm out of time... I'll be on later. Like 4:00 PM Pacific Time.
I'm offline then actually, but I may be back tonight or tomorrow for more. Cheers. :)

OOC: I meant to mention that almost all manufacturing was moved underground with the citizens, but the waste and pollution is vented onto the surface.

I have that much money in my budget 'cause I have a huge government budget. I have that much industry, and the government owns all. Lots of slave labor factors into my economy, too.

Citizens are brainwashed into believing that their Emperor is a god and they are provided with food and shelter, and protection from preventable diseases, so that they are almost fanatically loyal...

They don't make for very smart troops or generals, but they are very loyal...

Well, I'll wait for you. I think we should have an OOC thread, also. So that this one doesn't get too cluttered.

ooc: Okay sorry it f-ed up... im writign this a second time
a) spreads ash into the atmosphere, like a volcano, about the power of 10 saturn v rockets. it darkens the sky. almost harmless, short of some ash-showers. moves over land VIA air currents
b) we don't have to be close... (are you an island, bordering with water, or are you totally inland?)
c) i like the effect anyways...

OOC: I'm bored

IC:

The thick fog rolls over the nation of Steel and Fire. The coastal defences have been disabled, and the fleet prepares to be joined by the newest ship of the Hard Rock Beyond fleet. The Fifty-First (Invasion) Fleet of Hard Rock Beyond is soon to be joined by the Seventeenth (Battle) Fleet of Hard Rock Beyond.

This new fleet is joined by the newest ship of Hard Rock Beyond. The enormous carrier, the DTC-1 Advantage-class Juggernought-Carrier, fresh out of sea trials and minor prefab (adding a nuclear missile silo to the VTOL platform and hull).

The invasion of Steel and Fire is underway.

The combined fleets of the 17th and 51st sail for S&G.

"Seperate the fleet!"
"Yes, sirrah!"
"Aim all guns at the shore!"
"Yes, sirrah!"
"FIRE!!!!"

As First Naval Expeditionary force approached the shoars of Steel and Fire, Admiral Keklen opened a line with the captain of on of his Hinterblazer submarines, which, although relatively worthless in a duel, had a phenominal crush-depth and a whole magic box of EW equipment.
"Well, what's it look like?
"From the initial sonar reading thet've got one huge pile of ships up their, I'm going to send a drone for a closer look, it'll send its own results back to me, then I send to you. Safer that way."
"Go ahead."

The sub rose, to the point where a it would be visible to active sonar of any narby sub, and deployed a small drone, which floated to the surface, taking a sonar reading as it went and transmitting its findings back upon surfacing, while the sub rapidly dived. It would of taken a blind drunkard to miss the blips, and a techie with initiative and good communications might have been able to trace the message...

The situation room buzzed as staff officers hurried back and forth, shouting at one another across the crowded room, pouring over maps, scanning intelligence reports, and so on.

Detlev Hallget, in his element among the officers, immediately sought out General-der-Panzertruppen Jalfainer, the commander of the infamous mobile brigades Feuersturm, Schwarzsturm, and Eisensturm.

"Detlev! I thought you'd want me. And before you ask, yes, I have approved the new Sturmklinge upgrades. Tech has my official clearance to knock themselves out."
Hallget chuckled.
"I was going to ask you about that, but the main reason I was looking for you was for a little advice. I'm planning to have a chat with all the more senior officers, but you were nearest. Who do you say we throw in our lot with?"
"On a purely pragmatic basis I don't know. On a more ideological note, killing everything that moves is far from dead."
Another chuckle.
"I'll keep that in mind. Happy blitzkrieging!"

OOC: Look at my big shiny bump!
