Rohm had gotten rid of Hitler and began reshaping the NSDAP. Ernst Rohm had a second revolution, for some felt that conservative powers had to be restrained. The Strasser brothers became figures in Rohm's inner circle. The left wing of the NSDAP which continued to believe in the socialism inherent to the party's name won over the right wingers or Hitlerites as some called them. The SA or Sturmabteilung was still going strong, it was separate from the Armed Forces. As for the SS or Schutzstaffel, this was reformed into Rohm's private guard.
