Tangalee, Hataria

today, the Ministry of The Navy has declared that it has started Building a New Class of Superdreadnought called the Shogun Class Grand Battleship (as Hatarians call a Superdreadnought.) details are not being relesed, but it is said that The Shogun will be four times Larger then The Questers Ship [i]Hood and would out class it as the World Largest Warship.

OOC-Four times larger than the Hood? No. That thing would sink as soon as it went into the water.

OOC: Four times bigger? So that's gonna be 24,628 ft long (4.66 miles)?

Good luck with that, that's about the size of an FT space-battleship.

Impossible. After 2 km, the hull would just snap from its own sheer weight no matter what materials you use. Why do you think no one designs above 2 km for SDN?

:__:

Somehow I doubt the feasibility of a 7.2km long ship. Especially given that the curvature of the earth begins to take effect after about 3-4km, it would have to have a beam of around 1km and a draught of at least 200m -- meaning that it could only dock in ports 200 metres deep. It would also have to cost something like $16 trillion to develop, and $4 trillion to build... not counting labor.

In other words.... maybe not.

One could always build two 1 km ships, then link them together with a very strong chain.... ;)

Actually that is not such a sarcastic idea, just build two one kilometre hulls that are articulated so they can move small amounts independantly in the X and Y axis

That wouldn't be the same thing. That would be two different things linked together, but I'm refering to one hull. One hull would just snap from the sheer weight of itself.

Space Union has a point. What if a massive wave was in front of the ship. What would happen to the hull? I don't want to even THINK about what would happen to the objects on the deck of the ship!

Or one could attach waterjets, large guns, VLS, and nuclear reactors to a small island....

That would be funny as shit. We would have to uproot it, but a bit of explosives and possibly a couple hundred nuclear warheads will solve that problem. Then we can outfit it with 100s of thousands of VLS tubes, ETC guns, railguns, mini-towns, and other shit to make it a fortress of doom! :p

Exactly! The main requirement for its main guns is that they will be able to fire a greater distance than from one end of the island to the other.

And it could serve as a troop transport by carrying them inside the towns. A pity it'd move slow as shit though. But we can just throw in about 12 high-yield fusion reactors to deal with that. Come on, the US really doesn't need 4,000 active nuclear warheads, or whatever the number was. :P

LMAO good luck on making it move faster than 3 knots! Yes, this is capable. But she would have a GIANT beam, and she'd be so slow it would be useless and any competent person would nuke it to hell because this isn't a ship - it's a MASSIVE strategical target.

This isn't a warship. This is a fucking floating fortress. if you want to go into this scale, I have floating fortresses way larger than this already, haha.

How large are Floating Fortresses, generally? I thought they were supposed to displace 5 million tonnes or more, but that would make battleships like the Hood, Renown, Vistula &c. floating fortresses, which they aren't.

And if we're building 7km ships, why don't we go the whole way and call them Star Destroyers or Death Stars? :D

Given that torpedoes have ranges of 50+ miles, I fail to see how that works. Even pre-WWI torpedoes had longer ranges than two miles.
