August, 1874

A small flotilla of German warships, including the ironclad Preußen, appears outside of Tangiers. At the smae time, a group of transports begins landing German troops a day's march up the coast. The troops include a brigade of infantry, a regiment of Krupp guns, and a battalion of cavalry.

The German commander sends the Bey of Tangiers an ultimatum: submit to German rule or Tangiers will be taken by force. He is given two hours to decide. To punctuate his point, the Preußen steams about and looks impressive.

The ships off of Tangiers are the following:

Preußen
Elisabeth
Medusa
Agusta
Victoria

Plus several sloops.

Sultan Hassan I , realize he couldn't face the Germans and win. He bow to their demand and agree a German Protectorate, as long he remain the Sultan of Morroco, he was not going to stand against German rule.

As for the Berber or Bedouin tribes...they were not another story.....they will not accept German at all...they will fight in the foothills.

The Germans accept the Sultan as the local figurehead and the German troops move into the city and occupy the coastal and land defenses. The ships drop anchor in the harbor and a message is sent back via sloop to Germany that Tangiers is now under German control and requesting more troops.
